My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 10
This face-to-face battle ended with He Zhiyuan retreating in embarrassment, while Lin Lang emerged as the undisputed victor.
Feeling completely refreshed after roasting someone so thoroughly, Lin Lang snapped back to reality and noticed Gu Minglan standing to the side, watching with a smile. She felt a little embarrassed.
“President Gu, will this… affect anything?”
Gu Minglan waved her hand. “Not at all.”
Not only was it not a problem, she had thoroughly enjoyed the show. She was absolutely delighted.
She tilted her chin slightly, gesturing for Lin Lang to look at the expressions of the people nearby.
Curious, gossipy, amused, shocked… everyone wore that subtle, knowing smile. But most of them still looked polite and friendly.
Gu Minglan offered some insight: “None of the people here tonight rely on the He family to make a living.”
Which meant everyone was quite happy to watch the He family get humiliated, no one rushed to act like a bootlicker, shouting support for He Zhiyuan or pledging loyalty.
Sure enough, no one came over to stir up trouble for the rest of the night. Maybe Lin Lang’s earlier verbal takedown was so fierce that even the passive-aggressive types didn’t dare approach afterward.
Everyone kept things polite. Those who didn’t know her well just sneaked a few glances. The ones who were more familiar offered subtle compliments.
“You’ve got a good assistant.”
“She’s a spirited young lady.”
“Sharp and full of drive, President Gu, you’ve really found a gem.”
That kind of thing.
The praise made Lin Lang a little flustered.
Seeing her rare, bashful expression, Gu Minglan couldn’t help but chuckle. “No need to be shy. They’re just… excited by fresh talent, that’s all.”
Who in the business world doesn’t have a few difficult rivals or clients? But stepping in personally to curse someone out feels beneath one’s status. In moments like that, you just wish there was
someone by your side who could charge into battle, firing verbal shots left and right, knocking people down with their words.
But of course, if you do arrange for someone like that, you start worrying they might be too unfiltered and hard to control, ending up offending people and causing unnecessary trouble.
It’s one of those can’t-have-it-both-ways situations.
So, most people would rather grit their teeth and endure it than carry around a ticking time bomb who could cause everything to crash with one wrong move.
And now that President Gu had done what most of them didn’t dare to do, well, naturally, people were envious!
But envy aside, no one was going to follow her example. They’d all stick to their old ways.
What no one expected, though, was that the first person to step out in defense of the He family… was Ruan Mingjie.
After the banquet, Lin Lang was driving Gu Minglan home. They had barely gotten on the road when Ruan Mingjie called.
Gu Minglan sat in the backseat. Her phone had good audio, so Lin Lang could only hear Gu Minglan’s side of the conversation.
“Hm? What’s up?”
“No, nothing happened.”
“Yeah, we agreed to let it go, but that kid from the He family came asking for it himself. Who can you blame for that?”
“If you want to figure out how to explain it to the He family, that’s your business. I don’t care. If the He family dares to mouth off in front of me, I’ll deal with them however I like. You don’t
get a say.”
Then suddenly, Gu Minglan snapped, her tone turning cold:
“Chairman Ruan, if you keep trying to tell me how to do my job, I’ll suggest holding a shareholder meeting and propose stripping the Xinrui Project from the group’s portfolio, turning it into your
personal investment instead. How about that?”
Well… of course it wasn’t a good idea. Ruan Mingjie wisely shut his mouth.
After hanging up, Gu Minglan let out a cold, mocking laugh. A few moments passed before she spoke again, wearily:
“Forget going back to Qingxi. Head to Yuyuan.”
Yuyuan was the residential complex where Lin Lang and Ruan Qingci lived just one floor apart.
Lin Lang responded and flipped on the turn signal to change lanes.
Ever since Gu Minglan started temporarily staying there, Lin Lang had been living the dream of freeloading meal and the nightmare of eating every single one with her boss and being on call 24/7.
It was the ultimate love-hate situation.
As a rookie assistant who also happened to know a big, unresolved secret, Lin Lang had gotten a front-row seat to Gu Minglan’s entire playbook for crushing a scumbag.
Step one: When Ruan Mingjie tried to smooth things over with the He family in exchange for benefits, she snatched two high-value properties from his hands worth nearly 50 million yuan combined and had them transferred under Ruan Qingci’s name.
Step two: She transferred all her own real estate assets to Ruan Qingci as well.
Next came the behind-the-scenes maneuvering quietly reaching out to shareholders whose interests aligned with hers and who opposed Ruan Mingjie’s stance. She convinced them to stand with her. Taking
the excuse of spending the New Year abroad with Ruan Qingci, they all gathered overseas and reached a kind of mutual understanding.
By early March, as spring blossomed, she began dousing Ruan Mingjie with cold water, bucket by bucket. She threw at him a thoroughly investigated list: his illegitimate son, the years of secret
financial support he’d given to both the child and his mistress, and the detailed records of assets he had transferred and concealed through members of the Ruan family.
Faced with the choice between his reputation, the company’s stock price, and whether he could retain control over company decisions, Ruan Mingjie went through nearly a month of arguing and pleading.
Eventually, he gave a dramatic performance the classic scumbag turned supplicant: tearful apologies, heartfelt vows to change, and promises of redemption.
At last, Gu Minglan seemed moved.
Worn out in both body and spirit, she said, “I won’t file for divorce… but I have two conditions.”
Ruan Mingjie’s face lit up, his voice full of affection. “Say the word. Not just two however many you want. I’ll make them happen.”
“First, within one month, you recover everything listed in this asset report.”
Relieved, Ruan Mingjie quickly agreed.
After all, the total only added up to about 100 million yuan. Back in the earlier days, when he didn’t know what he was doing, he’d made mistakes in hiding his assets. But later, he’d gotten smarter
most of the money was moved through his parents.
That was where the real fortune lay. Even if Gu Minglan did file for divorce, the law wouldn’t help her get it back.
After all, wasn’t it natural to support one’s parents? And what his parents did with the money afterward investing it and making more that was their business savvy, wasn’t it?
Gu Minglan looked at the man in front of her with disgust. She really couldn’t believe how blind she must’ve been back then to choose him.
“The second condition: transfer the £36 million we have in the Swiss bank account to Qingci.”
Ruan Mingjie blurted out, “That’s not possible!”
Gu Minglan looked at him with a half-smile, eyes full of sarcasm. “Then I’ll see you in court?”
That was no good either.
Cold sweat broke out all over Ruan Mingjie.
£36 million, converted, that’s over 300 million yuan, and it was cash. These days, people loved to boast about having assets worth billions, but that was all valuation. How many could pull out a few
hundred million in liquid cash?
This sum had only accumulated thanks to Gu Minglan’s persistence, adding a little each year, saving steadily until it reached what it was today.
“We have only one daughter Qingci. You secretly spent nearly 100 million on your illegitimate son and his mother, and now what? You don’t want to give this money to Qingci? Planning to save it for your other child?”
“Ruan Mingjie, when you act like this, it’s really hard for me to believe you’ve truly repented.”
“Unless…”
Ruan Mingjie’s expression darkened, and he lowered his head.
In his mind, he repeated: The shares they hold are worth at least 3 billion yuan. If the company stays in his hands, 300 million can be earned back in two or three years. Don’t lose the bigger
picture over a small loss. First, pacify Gu Minglan then plan the next move.
After fully psyching himself up, he swallowed his anger and humiliation and finally agreed.
Suddenly becoming rich again didn’t make Ruan Qingci happy at all.
Emotionally, she wanted to believe Ruan Mingjie had truly recognized his mistakes and was making a sincere effort to change. But logically, she knew better and was more than willing to assume the
worst about her own father.
After all, anyone willing to give up 300 million just to buy time… must have much bigger ambitions.
Whether it was the company, the shares, the stock price, or his reputation whatever it was he wanted, it wasn’t people.
Worried sick, she completely ignored the eight-hour time difference and messaged Lin Lang constantly three meals a day plus a late-night snack’s worth of reminders to always stay alert.
She didn’t dare bother her mom like that otherwise, she’d get scolded. Probably told, in a serious and heartfelt tone, not to interfere in her parents’ matters.
Because, let’s face it, when it comes to divorce, children meddling always sounds bad no matter how good the intention.
So, Ruan Qingci obediently listened to the lecture then turned right around and went to Lin Lang. If Mom would scold her, she’d just bug Lin Lang instead!
And Lin Lang always replied carefully, every single time.
Perfect!
As the days moved into May, the weather gradually began to heat up. Most people had switched to light, breezy summer clothes, and even needed to turn on the AC when driving.
That evening, they were hosting an important client. By the time dinner ended, it was nearly 9:30 PM. After instructing the driver to take the client and their group back to the hotel, the two of
them finally headed back to Yuyuan.
Just after exiting the Third Ring Road and merging into the straight lane from the off-ramp with a right turn, they were sideswiped by a three-wheeled electric cargo vehicle.
Gu Minglan’s car, a luxury vehicle worth three million yuan, ended up with a long scratch about 60 to 70 centimeters long. When the trike driver saw the car logo, he clearly thought about running
for it, but quickly realized he couldn’t outrun a car. With a frustrated look, he stopped at the side of the road.
When Lin Lang got out of the car, the driver glanced at her. Oh? A young girl, dressed neat and tidy, looking skinny and delicate. So, he started playing the victim, hoping to guilt her into letting
it go.
“Little sis, I’m just trying to earn a living here, it’s not easy, you know? You look like someone doing alright. Why not just let this go?”
Lin Lang smiled politely and replied sweetly, “Big brother, please wait just a moment, okay?”
Playing dirty? She could play too.
She walked over to the driver’s seat of the trike. No need to roll up her sleeves, she simply placed her right hand on the metal handlebar, and with one solid push.
The guy watched in horror as she pressed the steel bar like it was made of clay, crushing it into a smooth, rounded M shape.
Holy crap, he nearly lost his soul right there.
Some people, you think they’re soft little sweethearts but turns out, they’re Godzilla.
He immediately deflated, muttering under his breath, “Alright, alright… I’m screwed this time.”
Lin Lang smiled even more sweetly, looking soft, gentle, and totally easy to bully.
But in the guy’s mind, all he could picture was her molding steel like Play-Doh. No way was he going to try his luck again. He didn’t think his bones could handle what that handlebar just went
through.
After calling the police, they waited on the roadside, chatting idly and venting about the struggles of life. By the time the traffic cop arrived, took statements, and they were cleared to drive off
again, about 30 minutes had passed.
They were just four or five intersections away from Yuyuan when Lin Lang spotted the same inconspicuous car behind them, for the third time. Her guard immediately went up.
The first time near the restaurant could’ve been a coincidence. The second time, at the scene of the scrape, maybe just bad luck. But they’d stayed put for half an hour at the off-ramp. And now, only minutes back on the road, the car had appeared again?
What were the odds that the people in that car just happened to be delayed in the same area for the same half hour?
No way. Things don’t just line up like that.
What’s more, she suddenly remembered the car crash from Gu Qingci’s dream, and how, after digging deeper, it had led back to Ruan Qiying’s biological mother.
The more she thought about it, the more terrifying it became.
