My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 29
Forced to listen to a barrage of Lin Lang’s nonsense, Gu Qingci, who had unknowingly been cheered up, could only watch helplessly as the conversation veered off course and never returned. She sighed softly.
She couldn’t help but wonder if Lin Lang had deliberately changed the subject to make her feel better.
All she could do was half-listen to Lin Lang’s earnest compliments while her mind wandered.
The He family’s attitude toward Lin Lang was truly baffling, even contradictory.
It was possible Lin Lang hadn’t shared every detail of her dream. However, her consistent aversion to the He family made it clear that, in the dream, her death was inextricably linked to them. Lin Lang had also mentioned her younger sister, Lin Yao, who had been tirelessly trying to save her—or perhaps avenge her.
But as things stood, the He family’s attitude toward her didn’t seem like one of hostility or a desire for a life-and-death struggle.
They genuinely seemed intent on tying Lin Lang to the He family, their method being to do everything in their power to marry her into the family—specifically to He Jikai.
What could have happened along the way to lead to her death? Directly or indirectly dying at the hands of the He family?
What did Lin Lang mean to the He family?
Or, phrased differently, why was the He family so determined to bind Lin Lang to He Jikai?
Was it because of her martial prowess?
This wasn’t some arena battle; hiring a few bodyguards would suffice. There was no need to use the future heir’s marriage as a bargaining chip.
Was it because of her modestly profitable company that averaged less than twenty million yuan in annual profits?
That kind of money might be a lot for others, but for the He family, it was nothing.
So, what made Lin Lang so special?
Why did the He family’s attitude shift from reverence to disregard?
These were all unanswered questions.
It couldn’t simply be that the He family wanted to trick her into their fold just to kill her, could it?
When Lin Lang finally ran out of compliments, Gu Qingci asked her to recount the entire dream again, this time without omissions.
After comparing the abbreviated version she’d heard before to this full version…
It seemed there wasn’t much difference.
The things she didn’t know were still unknown!
After listening, Gu Qingci extracted one disappointing piece of key information compared to the previous version.
That was, in the future Lin Lang had dreamt of, she and Lin Lang were complete strangers with no connection whatsoever.
Even after Lin Lang’s death, Gu Qingci had never so much as seen her gravestone.
They were utterly and thoroughly strangers.
How utterly disheartening!
Gu Qingci doodled and underlined key points while asking Lin Lang, “Do you have some mysterious background or something?”
“Like, maybe you’re not your current parents’ child, and your biological parents are so powerful that their slightest move shakes the whole nation.”
Lin Lang gave her a look of exasperation.
“If that were the case, would the He family dare to kill me?”
“Did they fall from power later?” Gu Qingci suggested.
“Is this some feudal dynasty where entire families are executed? If there’s no profit, they’d just abandon me without getting their hands dirty.”
“What if it really was just an accident?”
That wasn’t impossible either.
Lin Lang chuckled, “Then the question is, why did such an accident happen?”
To destroy someone silently, controlling and guiding them until they have no choice but to walk a path meticulously designed for them—while appearing entirely uninvolved on the surface. This kind of elaborate scheme was achievable, though it required money, manpower, time, and patience.
The He family lacked none of these prerequisites.
“Fine,” Gu Qingci said, crossing off that possibility and moving on to discuss another.
“Or maybe you’re close friends with some powerful figure’s child who would risk their life for you?”
“What kind of mysterious background could I possibly have? Among the people I know, you and Auntie Gu are the most impressive.”
Lin Lang was just an ordinary person.
Oh, so she and her mother were the pinnacle of Lin Lang’s social circle.
Gu Qingci sighed, crossed off that theory, and muttered, “If it’s not about the benefits you bring, then it really must just be about you as a person.” She was utterly puzzled. How confident did He Jikai have to be to think that after getting caught scheming against her and getting his leg broken by her, Lin Lang would fall for him?
Not to mention, no normal person would develop feelings for someone they caught committing a crime—let alone someone who was maimed by them at first meeting.
“Do you have some unique trait? Like panda bl00d, or flesh as irresistible as Tang Monk’s, granting immortality if consumed?” Gu Qingci abandoned normal logic and began to speculate wildly.
After all, by normal logic, there was no reason for the He family to be so persistent in forcing Lin Lang and He Jikai together.
“Maybe you’re a phoenix destined to bring prosperity, and marrying you ensures world domination?”
Lin Lang: …
Wake up already!
I’m just a background character; how could I have such a main-character setup?
And why are you suddenly getting all mystical?
You’re giving up on logic is kind of scary!
The two of them went over everything from start to finish again, still feeling like they were missing something.
“It feels weird somehow,” Gu Qingci muttered. “What is it?”
Lin Lang could understand. She’d been pondering it for nearly two years without figuring out what was off. Gu Qingci was only hearing bits and pieces and only got the full story today. How could she figure it out all at once?
“Ugh, forget it. Guessing blindly here is pointless. Let’s just wait and see. If they’re plotting something, they’ll slip up eventually. We’ll deal with it when it comes.”
Gu Qingci glared at her. “Who handles things like this? This isn’t some sparring match—it’s a life-and-death matter!”
Lin Lang chuckled, unfazed. When you’re already overwhelmed, adding one more thing doesn’t make much difference. Even if they were anxious, there was no way to uncover the answer immediately.
Playfully, she teased Gu Qingci, “Don’t worry, we have at least a year. That’s enough time for me to get you pregnant and have a baby!”
The sudden shift caught Gu Qingci completely off guard.
For a moment, the young lady’s ears turned pink. Her gaze flickered evasively as she scolded Lin Lang, “Why are you like this!”
They were discussing something serious, and she had to go and make it weird!
But inevitably, her thoughts strayed for a moment.
The reason she’d dared to return home early to try things with Lin Lang was precisely because being in a same-s3x relationship meant there was no risk of unintended consequences.
Completely safe and worry-free!
Besides, Lin Lang’s confidence was laughable. Did she really think she’d want a child just because Lin Lang somehow had the ability to make it happen?
And most importantly, who’d want to have a posthumous child, for goodness’ sake!
At that moment, something clicked in her mind.
“I’ve got it!” Gu Qingci exclaimed; her eyes alight as she looked at Lin Lang. “In that dream, did you and He Jikai have a child?!”
If, in the first hypothesis, Lin Lang’s background was questionable and her biological parents were powerful, the lingering mystery was why they’d marry her into the family and then let her quietly die.
Even if her biological parents fell from grace, it wouldn’t necessitate taking her life.
But what if there was a child?
A child carrying Lin Lang’s bloodline.
That would explain everything.
Eliminate the uncontrollable Lin Lang, keep the manageable child, and they’d still gain the advantage they coveted.
Gu Qingci’s single remark successfully unsettled them both.
Just imagining it was suffocating.
Lin Lang’s face twisted, and she mimed vomiting. “Don’t even joke about that! I want to go smash He Jikai’s head in!”
Gu Qingci, equally disturbed by her own hypothesis, puffed up her cheeks in anger, clearly upset.
Lin Lang, laughing helplessly, had to coax her.
“Don’t be mad, don’t be mad. In the dream, we didn’t even know each other. See? Things are already different now. That scenario won’t happen.”
Lin Lang thought carefully. “I don’t think so. You see, Lin Yao was bent on avenging her sister, which shows how much she valued her. If there had been a child, she wouldn’t have ignored it.”
After answering, Lin Lang couldn’t help but tease Gu Qingci. “I think this whole ‘mysterious background’ idea is ridiculous. I grew up in the village. The neighbors watched my parents marry, watched my mom get pregnant, and then watched me grow up.”
A gambling-addicted, abusive father and a weak, loyal mother—did those sound-like winning cards to anyone?
Of course, she’d fantasized about being someone else’s child, but it was clearly impossible.
In a village where every tiny event was gossiping fodder, if she weren’t their biological child, rumors would’ve spread long ago. There was no way she wouldn’t have heard about it.
“Fine.” After hearing Lin Lang’s description of her small-town upbringing, Gu Qingci reluctantly accepted that her theory about Lin Lang’s background might not hold water.
Still, she wasn’t ready to give up entirely. “What if you were switched at birth? Maybe no one knew, and they all just assumed you were their biological child.”
Lin Lang found it amusing and casually humored her. “Mm-hmm, that’s possible.”
She then proposed a more direct approach. “Why don’t we let Auntie Gu drop some hints to He Zhiyuan and see what happens?”
As always, let them tear each other apart from the inside first!
Gu Qingci rolled her eyes. “Got it. I’ll talk to Mom about it.”
Feeling brushed off, Gu Qingci was displeased and sought to retaliate.
Suddenly, she remembered something. When she’d first asked Lin Lang to be her assistant, Lin Lang had casually mentioned knowing someone who’d be a perfect fit.
“Lin Lang, the person you said would be great as my assistant—was that your sister, Lin Yao?”
Lin Lang, unsuspecting, replied, “Yeah.”
Gu Qingci’s eyes sparkled. “Oh, so in the dream, she was my assistant?”
“Yeah.”
“My assistant, huh…” Gu Qingci propped her chin up, looking dreamy. “She’s seven years younger than us, right?”
Lin Lang, still oblivious, robotically replied, “Yeah,” before realizing something felt off. She frowned. “Why are you asking all this?”
Gu Qingci smiled mischievously, delivering a shocking statement: “So, in the future, did I end up with Lin Yao?”
Lin Lang: …
Her mind went blank.
What kind of plot twist was this?!
Gu Qingci, with a perfectly logical tone, said, “You see, you’re my assistant now, right?”
Her expression was full of meaning as she mischievously asked, “And now we’re together, right?”
“All my assistants…” Gu Qingci boldly concluded, delivering a critical hit.
“Sisters work just as well as you do.”
Lin Lang stood there as if struck by lightning, completely shattered.
