My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 35
Yuan Ying brought up the matter first, mainly to speak up for Lin Lang. She didn’t want Gu Qingci to be swayed by Yao Quan’s complaints and form a biased opinion too early.
She just hadn’t expected that after hearing it all, Gu Qingci would… actually be in a pretty good mood?
Gu Qingci tried hard to hide her smile and said seriously, “I understand.”
But a few moments later, she couldn’t help but add, “Actually, Lin Lang’s already holding back a lot.”
Back when she went head-to-head with He Weimin and He Zhiyuan—that was really savage!
Yuan Ying was confused. If this counted as holding back, what would it look like when she wasn’t?
Still, confusion aside, she understood one thing: Gu Qingci wasn’t blaming Lin Lang at all. That made her feel a lot more at ease, so she nudged Gu Qingci, “Then go on, quickly.”
Just as Gu Qingci was about to leave, something came to mind. She turned back and told Yuan Ying, “If our project gets approved and moves into production, President Luo might pull something. He’ll probably come looking for you. When that happens, I can lend you Lin Lang to help you fight back.”
Yuan Ying: “…Thanks?”
She didn’t quite get the deeper meaning, but she was definitely shocked.
Lend her Lin Lang to go scold someone? What kind of strange strategy is that?
Then again, thinking about it… Lin Lang had never lost a verbal battle, right?
Yao Quan looked refined, with the pale under-eyes that researchers often had.
He was polite and seemed gentle. He first gave Gu Qingci a general update on his team’s situation, then—just as expected—brought up what Yuan Ying had mentioned earlier.
He didn’t say it too bluntly. On one hand, considering that Gu Qingci had trusted Lin Lang with almost everything this past year, clearly Lin Lang was important to her. On the other hand, he knew exactly what was going on: he wanted to hire a man instead of a woman. If his boss were male, he might understand. But Gu Qingci was a woman too—there’s no way she’d appreciate that kind of thinking.
So all he did was vent a little. In R&D, pulling all-nighters at key stages is normal. Women generally don’t have the same stamina as men—that’s a fact. He was just worried that high-intensity work would wear them down. That’s understandable, right?
Gu Qingci didn’t really buy it. In fact, she remembered how Lin Lang had snapped back at him.
She didn’t respond directly to Yao Quan’s comment. Instead, she smoothly deflected: “Yeah, I know you’re just concerned, but I see it a little differently.”
“Whether someone can handle it or not—that should be up to them, right? These women chose this field, and they must’ve worked in labs under professors during school. If they graduated, it means they could handle it. Don’t you think?”
She was still being polite—didn’t say outright that he should mind his own business and stop arrogantly making decisions for others.
What, are you their dad or something?!
Yao Quan wasn’t dumb. He heard the hidden message in her words.
He was a bit embarrassed and annoyed. Women bosses are just so picky!
They’re my team members. Why can’t I choose who I want?
No matter how much he grumbled inside, he didn’t dare say anything to her face. Instead, he smiled and changed the topic. He subtly mentioned that the roles of technical and management staff should be more clearly defined. Otherwise, if management didn’t understand R&D and started interfering, it could mess things up.
After all, it’s a big mistake when non-experts try to lead experts.
It all sounded pretty reasonable.
Gu Qingci smiled gently and asked, “Was something unclear in the job descriptions? Or has someone overstepped and affected the lab in a bad way? Tell me specifically.”
Yao Quan was caught off guard. He defended himself, “Our team’s still small for now. Nothing major has happened.”
In other words, there have been some small issues.
Gu Qingci leaned in, fully attentive: “Go ahead, tell me in detail.”
But Yao Quan didn’t really have anything concrete to say. He just repeated himself, circling back to the same idea: “Just because nothing’s happened yet doesn’t mean it won’t. We should plan ahead.”
Gu Qingci: …
With this level of skill, you really think you can take on Lin Lang? You’re like a rookie bronze player trying to challenge the reigning champion!
She was honestly disappointed.
You’re wasting my time. Do you know that?
I didn’t call Lin Lang top-tier just to boost her ego—she is that good.
After brushing off Yao Quan, Gu Qingci was deep in thought. She didn’t expect everyone to be perfect, and she knew people could just have different views, not necessarily bad intentions.
But Yao Quan’s behavior still worried her.
He was in charge of a team. If he couldn’t be fair and objective when assigning tasks, that would seriously affect his team members.
Just the fact that he only wanted men and not women was already concerning for the female staff under him.
She’d need to figure something out—maybe formal evaluations and transparent work assignments, so no one could just do whatever they wanted based on personal preference.
Meanwhile, Yao Quan had no idea he’d just scored a reverse critical fail. After subtly tattling on Lin Lang, he was feeling pretty smug.
He never expected to get Lin Lang fired or anything, just wanted to make things difficult for her—and maybe plant a seed of doubt in Gu Qingci’s mind. Once that seed grew, then Lin Lang would be in trouble.
She’s just an assistant, and she dares to challenge me? So naive!
This company was built around the lab. R&D is the real core value here. And that Lin Lang, she doesn’t even qualify as core staff. She acts like she has power, but doesn’t respect real researchers like us.
Well, she can’t blame me for a little payback.
When Gu Qingci got back to Lin Lang’s office, it was almost the end of the workday.
Lin Lang had already very sneakily booked a dinner spot at the nearest private restaurant to the apartment near Huada where Gu Qingci was staying.
As soon as her “princess” walked in, Lin Lang leaned close and asked in a hushed, secretive tone, “You said we could head back later—how late is later, exactly?”
If it was like Cinderella with a midnight curfew, that’d be okay—they’d still get at least two hours together.
Gu Qingci gave her a side glance—What are you dreaming about?
“Mom needs her beauty sleep. I need to be back before 10:30.”
She had to make sure she was home before her mom fell asleep, so she could rest easy.
Lin Lang did some quick math and thought, okay, not too bad.
If they got off work at six, and everyone dawdled a bit, they’d probably get to the restaurant around 6:30. Add some chatting during dinner, they’d wrap up around 8:30.
Since it took about 40 minutes to drive back to the apartment, to be safe, Gu Qingci would need to leave by 9:30.
Which meant… only one hour left for them to be alone.
Who only gets one hour for a date?
Especially after not seeing each other for a whole week!
Have a heart, would you?!
Lin Lang looked at her with a deeply wronged expression.
Gu Qingci tried not to laugh and gently patted her face, comforting her and also herself: “It’s just a few days. Be patient, okay?”
Only three days left—it’d go by fast.
Lin Lang was barely reassured. Still, she quietly made a request: “Can we leave dinner a bit early tonight?”
Gu Qingci agreed.
But once dinner actually started, Lin Lang realized that promise didn’t mean much. Once the conversation got going, Gu Qingci completely forgot!
Everyone at the table was still talking about work—throwing out one technical term after another. They were chatting and eating so slowly. Two whole tables of people, and Lin Lang was the only one focused on actually eating.
She realized with a sinking heart: At this rate, we’re never getting out by 9:30!
She had to save herself!
So she kept her ears perked. Whenever there was a lull in conversation, she’d jump in to dish food for Gu Qingci and loudly remind everyone, “Eat up, or the food’s gonna get cold!”
It worked. Her reminders got people to start eating again. But soon enough, they were back to talking.
The second time she said it, Gu Qingci didn’t say anything on the surface, but under the table, her hand found Lin Lang’s thigh and gave it a sharp pinch.
Shameless!
Still, Gu Qingci got the message. She could see how eager Lin Lang was.
So she took the lead and said, “Alright, we’ve all got work tomorrow. There’s plenty of time to talk later. Let’s eat and head back soon—it’s not safe to be out too late.”
With that, everyone decided to wrap up early and go home for a good night’s rest.
By eight o’clock, they were done eating and said their goodbyes.
Once they’d waved everyone off, Gu Qingci turned to Lin Lang, who was smiling brightly, and gave her a playful smack. “Happy now?”
Lin Lang took her hand and grinned, her voice practically singing: “Very!”
Hand in hand, the two walked back slowly, sticking close together.
The whole way, Gu Qingci kept reminding her: they were just going upstairs to sit for a bit and have a proper talk. Even while waiting for the elevator, she repeated it again.
Lin Lang agreed sweetly the entire way. But the moment they stepped inside and shut the door, she pushed Gu Qingci against it and kissed her hard.
Gu Qingci wrapped her arms around Lin Lang’s waist and tilted her head, eagerly returning the kiss.
Maybe because this time they were alone in a private space, both of them were far more passionate than before.
Their breaths mingled, lips and tongues tangled—it was heated and intense. When they finally pulled apart briefly, Gu Qingci gasped, half-whining, “Didn’t you say… just come up and sit for a bit…”
Lin Lang leaned in again, “Yeah. That’s what we’re doing.”
As they kissed and paused again for air, Gu Qingci stubbornly tried to stick to the original plan, sounding almost pitiful: “We were just supposed to… talk…”
“We are talking,” Lin Lang emphasized the word. “Body language is a language too!”
Gu Qingci was on the verge of tears!
Clearly, Lin Lang thought she wasn’t working hard enough—if Gu Qingci still had the energy to complain.
So she redoubled her efforts.
Maybe it was the strong heating, or the intense and lingering kisses, but their passion quickly caught fire.
Gu Qingci was dazed, gasping between kisses. “Hot… Lin Lang, it’s so hot…”
Lin Lang refused to stop. “I’ll help you take it off…”
As she fumbled to remove Gu Qingci’s coat, her hand brushed against her soft chest, and her mind went blank. She gave it a gentle squeeze.
Gu Qingci let out a soft, sweet sound. Her face flushed as she pushed Lin Lang away. “N-no, not there…”
Remembering how that softness felt, and all the times Gu Qingci had clung to her, Lin Lang’s body responded instinctively.
She held her tighter, whispering like she was possessed, “Didn’t you say you owed me?”
“I’m just touching. Just… massaging a little?”
“If it doesn’t feel good, I’ll stop, okay?”
As she spoke, her hand slipped under the hem of Gu Qingci’s sweater. The “princess” had gone limp from all the kissing, and the strength in her grip faded. When Lin Lang’s palm touched her waist, she let go completely.
Taking that as permission, Lin Lang grew even more impatient—but she couldn’t find the clasp.
Panting next to her ear, Gu Qingci—now flushed and breathless—let out a teasing breath as she felt Lin Lang fumble around and whispered in her ear, voice low and sultry:
“Have you considered… that it might clasp in the front?”
