My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 39
This girl seriously can’t go a day without saying something flirty.
Even at a critical moment like this, she still had the energy to mess around. Couldn’t she just focus for once?
Gu Qingci couldn’t take it anymore and kicked her. “Hurry up!”
She was this close, dammit!
Once they finished this round, she’d have to get up, wash up, get dressed, and head to the airport.
The moment she walked out that door, she could finally get some rest!
But Lin Lang stubbornly kept trying to persuade her. “Are you sure you don’t want to consider it? Just the thought of it…”
Her tone grew more sultry. “It sounds so good.”
“Don’t you want to?”
Gu Qingci: …
Come on, people should be practical. You’ve got to have priorities. Can’t we finish this first?
They weren’t even done yet, and she was already thinking about the next round?
That on-the-verge-but-not-there feeling was driving her insane. So Gu Qingci decided to just go for it and quickly pulled herself out of the torture.
Meanwhile, Lin Lang was still trying to sweet-talk her into spending New Year’s Eve in bed.
The young miss let out a long sigh and leaned against her weakly. “We’ll talk about it later.”
She was exhausted. And also—oddly—zen.
For now, she had transcended all worldly desires.
Just like Gu Qingci predicted, once they left the house and Lin Lang wasn’t all over her anymore, she fell asleep peacefully on Lin Lang’s shoulder during the ride to the airport.
Even though from the night of the 1st to the morning of the 4th, she had mostly been lying down—lying in every possible position, in every possible place.
Everything else had been handled entirely by Lin Lang, no matter what it was.
Cooking? Lin Lang. Bathing? Lin Lang. Even when the food was ready, it was Lin Lang who came into the room and carried her out to eat.
But without Lin Lang’s beast-like stamina backing her up, even with those few extra breaks while cooking, Gu Qingci was still way more tired.
She needed every spare minute to rest and recharge. Otherwise, forget a steamy New Year’s Eve with Lin Lang—she might not even make it through the family reunion dinner tonight.
She slept all the way to the airport. When she got out of the car, the cold wind woke her up a little. That slight clarity carried her through checking in and going through security. After boarding, she barely said a word to Lin Lang before dozing off again against her shoulder.
Lin Lang asked the flight attendant for two blankets. Wrapped up together, the two of them slept in a cozy, drowsy heap.
By the time they landed in Rong City, the nap hadn’t been super restful, but at least Gu Qingci felt somewhat refreshed.
Naturally, someone came to pick her up.
The moment her cousin from her uncle’s side saw her, he rushed over and gave her a big hug. “Everyone’s already back—just waiting on you! Heartless girl, you graduated and came back to China, and didn’t even stop by once?”
Gu Qingci smiled. “I’ve just been busy! But I’m here now, aren’t I?”
Good-looking guy and pretty girl hugging—it caught the attention of quite a few passersby.
Lin Lang felt a little sour watching the scene. She almost couldn’t stop herself from pulling them apart.
Gu Qingci’s cousin turned to greet her. “You’re Lin Lang, right? Thanks for looking after Qingci.”
Lin Lang responded with complete confidence. “Of course. It’s only natural.”
She was her girlfriend—of course she should take care of her!
That matter-of-fact attitude earned her a playful glare from Gu Qingci.
Her cousin was sharp and observant. He glanced at Gu Qingci, rubbed his chin, and mused, “Hmm, sis, you seem… different somehow.”
Gu Qingci’s heart skipped a beat.
Well, duh—of course she was different now. She was living a happy, healthy life, full of stamina, and a very adult nightlife.
Not that she could say that out loud.
So she followed Lin Lang’s lead and thickened her skin. “Of course I’m different—I’m out of school now!”
Especially since she left campus and immediately ended up in Lin Lang’s bed.
Or, well… maybe it’s more accurate to say Lin Lang ended up in her bed.
Both work. Getting a job and getting into bed—both could really change a person’s aura.
Even she could see it when she looked in the mirror. In just a month, the youthful innocence on her face had shifted into a subtle, mature charm.
Her cousin didn’t overthink it. He just sighed in amazement, “Yeah. I remember when you came back during your first winter break in college, you’d changed a lot too.”
He drove them back into the city and even took a small detour to drop Lin Lang off at the gate of Yuyuan complex.
As for Gu Qingci, he made it clear that everyone was waiting at home, so there was no time to waste. If they dawdled any longer, she’d be in trouble.
Lin Lang looked at her reluctantly. “You’re not coming up to drop off your luggage?”
Couldn’t they at least get a proper goodbye kiss?
Gu Qingci looked at her with complete trust. “Nah, you take it up for me. I’ll come by tonight.”
Of course, it wasn’t really about the luggage.
They’d packed together, so their stuff was all mixed up. Lin Lang was obviously just trying to get her upstairs to do something naughty.
She had barely gotten away with fooling her cousin—mainly because they hadn’t seen each other in a year. But if she went upstairs and came back down looking all lovestruck, anyone would know something was up.
Lin Lang sighed regretfully, got out of the car, and pulled out their suitcase and bags. She waved goodbye.
But deep down, she was already excited. At least Gu Qingci had said she’d come over tonight, right?
It didn’t matter what she really meant—to Lin Lang, there was only one interpretation:
She agreed!
Gu Qingci had no idea Lin Lang was already fantasizing about their New Year’s Eve in bed.
She and her cousin arrived at her grandparents’ villa. The first floor was just the housekeeper and the cooks preparing the family reunion dinner. No sign of her family.
She gave her cousin a look. This was what he meant by “everyone’s waiting for you”?
Her cousin was totally calm. “They’re probably up on the third floor.”
Gu Qingci nodded knowingly.
The third floor had a big sunroom that doubled as a winter garden. The whole family loved to play mahjong there in the winter sunshine.
Sure enough, when the elevator doors opened, the first thing she heard was the clatter of tiles and the booming voices of serious players:
“Three Characters!”
“Pong! Seven Bamboo!”
“Hu!”
“Ha! Me too!”
“Double win!”
“Why didn’t you feed me too?”
“If only that was a kong, we’d have a Kong Win!”
…
When they noticed her and her cousin, they barely glanced up. “Oh hey, Qingci’s back! You’re even prettier than before!”
Nowhere near the dramatic welcome her cousin had made it sound like. He acted like everyone had been dying to see her, and that taking a detour to drop off luggage would be a waste of precious time.
Gu Qingci gave her cousin a long look. Really? This is what you meant by “everyone’s waiting”?
Give her family a mahjong table, and they’d forget she even existed!
No wonder no one was downstairs. They’d moved the garden mahjong table upstairs for a full two-table setup.
Her grandpa, uncle, younger uncle, and mom were at one table. Her grandma, aunts, and younger cousin were at the other. The competition was intense.
Only her little cousin greeted her warmly, practically leaping at her.
Eyes watery, like she was meeting a savior: “Sis, thank god you’re back! Save me!”
She was about to lose all her uncollected red envelope money!
Her sister was rich—time for her to take over this burden of love!
Her cousin teased, “Oh? Just begging your sister? What, you think your big bro isn’t good enough?”
Wait, really?
She’d instinctively called for her sister because they were closer in age. Her brother was older, so she didn’t dare act too familiar.
But if he wanted to step in? Even better!
Her eyes lit up. She eagerly said, “Sure, bro! Go ahead!”
That way, she could hang out with her sister in peace!
So her cousin was dragged into the battlefield to fill her seat, while the little cousin happily scooted over to Gu Qingci.
“Wow, sis, you’ve changed a lot. You’re seriously getting more and more gorgeous!” she gushed, practically drooling.
Gu Qingci was starting to get nervous with all these comments. She was worried someone might figure out the real reason.
She tried to change the subject. “You’ve changed too! How’s college treating you?”
Their generation had pretty big age gaps.
Her oldest uncle was five years older than her mom, and her youngest uncle was eight years younger.
That meant their kids were spaced out too. Her male cousin was seven years older than her, and she was seven years older than the youngest cousin.
So she got along with both ends, but those two were a little more distant with each other.
Her little cousin was still a freshman!
The moment she was asked about school, she had plenty to say. She was easily led into chatter, going on and on with barely a pause.
She hadn’t stayed in Rong City or gone to college in Beijing. Instead, she chose to study in Shanghai—and had clearly been living it up on her own.
While they chatted happily, no one noticed that when Gu Minglan heard her niece say Gu Qingci had changed and become super charming, her hand paused slightly. She glanced over thoughtfully, then quietly resumed playing.
Gu Minglan was starting to get it. So that’s why her daughter flew straight to Beijing after landing—something was definitely up.
But who?
If she was so eager to reunite, why was she hiding it so well?
Dating someone isn’t a big deal. Why hadn’t she said a word?
Could it be that the relationship was progressing fast and she wanted to wait until it was stable before introducing them to her mom?
Just like Minglan herself had two short-lived relationships in college that she never told her parents about?
Maybe that was it?
Still, something about it felt off.
Maybe she should ask Lin Lang about it?
Then again, her daughter was grown. It wasn’t her place to interfere anymore.
After all, at her daughter’s age, she had already given birth to her.
She was an adult now. Doing a few things to make herself happy? Totally normal.
As long as she took proper precautions.
Just please… don’t come home one day with a baby bump, saying she’s going to be a grandma…
That, she really wasn’t ready for.
Minglan quickly convinced herself it was fine.
Though deep down, the thought that her precious girl had been “snatched up” left her feeling a little sour.
Suddenly, she had the urge to go butcher a pig.
