My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 52
After a long night of self-service barbecue — with plenty of alcohol flowing — the gathering finally wrapped up around nine or ten o’clock. Those who had brought their partners along politely declined the idea of an afterparty, all agreeing that getting a good night’s sleep would leave them refreshed for more fun the next day.
Lin Lang, who had suffered no small number of eye-rolls from Gu Qingci throughout the evening, was acutely aware of her own past misdeeds. She knew this gang of troublemakers wouldn’t just let her off the hook that easily.
There was definitely a prank brewing.
So, being the cunning soul she was, before bed she not only muted her phone but also unplugged the hotel room’s landline.
Gu Qingci couldn’t help but laugh. “Is that really necessary?”
Lin Lang responded with a weary sigh. “It’s very necessary.”
After all, it’s not every day a notorious bachelor finally shows up with a girlfriend in tow. If Lin Lang’s friends didn’t seize the opportunity for payback now, when would they?
Sure enough, when Gu Qingci later noticed Lin Lang’s phone screen lighting up with missed calls and messages, she fully understood why the precautions were absolutely essential.
Without them, the night’s experience could’ve been a complete disaster!
At the same time, Gu Qingci realized something deeper about Lin Lang: this girl must have been a real little devil back then. If she weren’t tough enough, she probably would’ve been beaten up long ago!
All in all, Gu Qingci had a great weekend — laughing herself silly while watching Lin Lang and her friends mercilessly roast each other.
Many people, after achieving success, desperately try to erase the stains of their pasts. But Lin Lang accepted her history with grace. She kept those who had shown her kindness close and cut off those who had only ever hurt her without a second thought.
It made Lin Lang even more vivid and captivating — vibrant, radiant, both soft and sharp.
Good times, as always, flew by too quickly.
After the weekend, under her mother Gu Minglan’s meaningful gaze, Gu Qingci promptly dragged Lin Lang back to Beijing.
Not only had their company already resumed work — the two had actually stayed longer in Rong City under the pretense of investigations. If they didn’t leave soon, Gu Qingci genuinely wouldn’t know what excuse to use to keep crashing at Lin Lang’s place!
Especially with a sharp-eyed mother lurking around!
Now that Lin Lang’s case had mostly been investigated — thanks to information passed on by Brother Ting’s network — the police had even uncovered new leads related to the incident where Gu Qingci had been drugged years ago.
But that was no longer their concern.
Everything related to Lin Lang that Gu Qingci needed to know, she knew. The rest was out of their hands.
As for Lin Lang’s scumbag adoptive father, He Ji Kai, the disgusting doctor, and others implicated later — their fate would be decided by the courts after investigations were complete.
At the airport, they ran into the head of the security bureau, who had been leading the investigation.
When the bureau officially lifted the security alert and allowed Gu Qingci and Lin Lang to return home (finally ending the days of living under the same roof with security agents and burning through their budget), the tall, cool-headed woman in charge gave Gu Qingci a look — half admiring, half teasing.
“You really know how to work the rules to your advantage, huh?”
In that moment, they realized: Gu Qingci had always intended to use the bureau’s help to completely resolve Lin Lang’s situation.
Not that the bureau walked away empty-handed either — their investigation into a shady mental hospital had accidentally unearthed hints of foreign involvement.
Of course, Gu Qingci played it innocent, modestly saying she had just “noticed something strange” and, being a law-abiding citizen, thought it might involve national secrets. Hence, she reported it.
Whether the official believed her or not, she simply nodded and let it slide.
Some things are better left unspoken.
Besides, it wasn’t really a breach of protocol — just a bit… delicate.
When they bumped into her again at the airport, the woman walked a few steps, then turned back, unable to resist giving a final, very parent-like reminder: “If you notice anything unusual again, be sure to report it in time. Safety first.”
The way she spoke — hesitant, complicated, concerned like a parent worrying over a mischievous child — was so endearing that Gu Qingci almost laughed out loud.
She found herself staring a little too intently.
Seeing this, Lin Lang immediately squeezed Gu Qingci’s hand and covered her eyes, sounding pitiful: “No staring allowed!”
Why was she looking at the pretty agent lady so seriously?
This was not a good sign!
Gu Qingci batted Lin Lang’s hand away and shot her a glare.
What are you thinking?!
She was just a little curious, that’s all!
Not some playgirl who fell for anyone she laid eyes on!
But Lin Lang, deadpan and serious, declared, “Curiosity is how every story begins.”
Gu Qingci rolled her eyes dramatically. “And what do you want me to do about it?”
“I’m heartbroken,” Lin Lang said, clutching her chest in mock agony. “You have to kiss me to make it better!”
Gu Qingci stared at her, then reached out and pinched Lin Lang’s cheek hard. “I never realized you had such thick skin!”
Framing her for nonexistent crimes just to scam kisses? Dream on!
But she hadn’t counted on Lin Lang’s ultimate weapon.
After being rejected and having her face pinched, Lin Lang immediately shifted tactics. Her long lashes drooped; the corners of her mouth flattened — her entire expression changed painfully slowly like a tree sloth moving in slow motion…
From a smug little troublemaker to a sad, pitiful puppy.
And as she whimpered, holding her chest and weakly pleading, “I’m heartbroken… Need kisses to heal…” — the sheer absurdity should’ve been laughable.
Except Lin Lang’s lashes fluttered like tiny fans brushing against Gu Qingci’s heart, soft and ticklish.
Sinister! Cunning! Shameless!
Gu Qingci cursed inwardly, but reality betrayed her.
She swallowed, her facade cracking, and finally muttered — pretending to be annoyed but secretly eager, “Fine, fine. I can’t say no to you.”
What else could she do?
If she couldn’t resist, she could only surrender — and heal her with love.
After spending a fiery Valentine’s Day together in Rong City, the two returned to Beijing just in time for the Lantern Festival — China’s traditional “Valentine’s Day” — and, unsurprisingly, spent the holiday thoroughly entangled with each other.
Though they hadn’t yet achieved their dream of ringing in the New Year together in bed (maybe in another ten months?), celebrating two Valentine’s Days back-to-back was a sweet consolation prize.
After another round of passionate, soul-satisfying entanglement, Gu Qingci lay lazily in Lin Lang’s arms, absentmindedly tracing circles on her skin.
She declared: “Let’s move into the new place next week.”
Now that their unofficial “honeymoon month” was over, it made sense to move into the apartment near Huada University for convenience. Less commuting, more rest — a win-win.
And they could always return to their luxury penthouse for weekend getaways!
But before all that, there was one extremely important thing Gu Qingci needed to do.
She had to officially introduce Lin Lang to her roommates — as her girlfriend!
She wasn’t the kind of person to just take without giving — she needed to make it official!
Digging out their long-dormant roommates’ group chat, Gu Qingci typed excitedly:
“Are you all back in Beijing yet?”
“Get ready — you’re getting a free meal!”
“Pick any day this weekend, any place you want. Lin Lang’s treating!”
She even generously added:
“Pick somewhere expensive! She’s loaded!”
— because she absolutely refused to let anyone think Lin Lang was freeloading off her!
Her roommates were stunned.
What’s with all these exclamation marks?!
Girl, are you trying to kill us with excitement?!
Also, why did she suddenly sound like a nouveau riche tycoon?
Where was her usual cool, aloof, elegant self?!
As they were still reeling, someone finally caught the real bombshell hidden in the messages.
Wait, Lin Lang? Paying?
OMG are they officially dating?!
Tang Yisheng’s fingers worked faster than her brain. She immediately blurted in the chat:
“Eh? Qingci, are you making it official?!”
Official? What official?
Gu Qingci stared blankly at her phone and typed back a confused “?”.
Realizing her blunder, Tang Yisheng clutched her head and groaned.
Not only had she accidentally exposed herself as a CP (couple pairing) fan, but she had also accidentally revealed the hot gossip thread on Huada University’s forums!
Meanwhile, the more quick-witted Fang Qingming and Cheng Xiao smoothly covered the situation.
Both chimed in warmly:
“Got it. Congratulations, Qingci!”
“Wishing you lots of happi— (crossed out) sexy times!”
And without missing a beat, they asked:
“Can we book the whole day? Eat, drink, and party all in one go?”
The thrill of fleecing a rich friend was just too tempting.
In their private three-person CP-fan group chat, when Tang Yisheng cried for help after her slip-up, Fang Qingming and Cheng Xiao coldly replied:
“You’re doomed. No saving you now.”
“Drag her away! We’re out!”
