My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 67
Gu Qingci’s attitude softened, and of course, Lin Lang took the chance to press forward and clear her name.
She really felt wronged!
She could admit she was selfish, sure, but to say she didn’t respect others? Absolutely not!
Lin Lang was very stubborn about this. If she didn’t do it, no one could pin it on her.
As she watched Lin Lang explaining herself so seriously, Gu Qingci’s thoughts drifted a little.
Their upbringings had been worlds apart.
One grew up in an environment filled with unconscious cruelty and cold indifference, fighting her way out of the mud just to survive. The other was nurtured with love, raised in the warmth and care of family.
Lin Lang had seen too much darkness and had fought too hard just to pull herself out of it. Choosing not to sink with it was already a huge effort.
Because of that, she didn’t really understand why Gu Qingci was so angry. She just thought: It’s better to apologize first and make her happy, we’ll figure it out later.
But Gu Qingci got even angrier because she saw right through her — Lin Lang didn’t really know what she had done wrong, nor did she feel like it was a big deal.
Gu Qingci didn’t bother arguing with her and simply said, “I’m a person. I have thoughts and an independent mind.”
“I’m not some trophy you show off for your own glory.”
To make sure Lin Lang truly understood how wronged she felt, Gu Qingci even gave a not-so-appropriate but very vivid example:
“If I treated you like just a plaything in bed, would you be happy about that?”
The example was so powerful and blunt that Lin Lang’s face turned green.
This time, she really, truly understood why Gu Qingci was so furious.
Once Lin Lang realized the real issue, her apology became much more sincere.
Even so, Gu Qingci let her stew for a whole week. She knew better than to overdo it. After confirming that Lin Lang had truly understood and learned her lesson, she decided to let it go.
They made up and went back to being sweet and loving again.
Lin Lang, secretly preparing for a romantic Valentine’s Day with her lady, had everything set…
Only for it to be interrupted halfway by yet another phone call.
Lin Lang was about to lose her mind.
At this rate, she was pretty sure she was going to develop PTSD from hearing Gu Qingci’s ringtone.
Why did someone always have to call at the worst possible time?
When Gu Qingci answered the phone, she heard Yuan Ying’s serious and cautious voice:
“Qingci, President Luo came to see me.”
Gu Qingci instinctively joked, “What, does he want Lin Lang to come help you curse him out?”
This made Lin Lang protest loudly!
What the hell? Is that all I’m good for now?
“Huh?” Yuan Ying sounded a bit confused on the other end, but after realizing what was meant, she chuckled lightly, “No need. I already cursed him out myself.”
“But… he said a bunch of weird stuff. At the time, I didn’t think much of it, but now that I’m recalling it, it feels off.”
Gu Qingci gently reassured her, “Don’t panic. What felt off?”
It was a long story.
Yuan Ying just summarized: “It’s about the project we’ve recently launched. He came to me, first claiming that the way he treated me back then was because of pressure from investors — he was blinded by greed but regrets it now. Then he said this product should belong to him and me, and that he has evidence showing the research had already taken shape before the lab transfer. When I kicked him out, he warned me not to regret it.”
After hearing this, Gu Qingci chuckled lightly.
“Don’t worry. It’s nothing,” she said. Knowing Yuan Ying was usually absorbed in research and didn’t follow outside news much, she explained, “He’s basically been sidelined by the investors. He’s desperate and trying to find a way back.”
As for that so-called ‘evidence’? Pure nonsense.
If he really had solid proof, he wouldn’t have approached Yuan Ying first to try and sweet-talk her into reconciling.
And those threats at the end? Classic desperate moves.
“He was already talking to Yao Quan before last year’s National Day,” Gu Qingci said, almost laughing. “After we changed office buildings and tightened security, Yao Quan got scared and came to confess.”
So basically, they had taken precautions ahead of time.
Hearing all this, Yuan Ying felt much more at ease. Before, when Luo threatened her, she had been genuinely afraid something might go wrong.
After hanging up, Lin Lang sighed, “What’s up lately? Is there some kind of scumbag revival season? They’re popping up everywhere, trying to rekindle old flames for money.”
And by scumbags, she didn’t just mean people like Luo — she was thinking about the He family too.
She still remembered that Gu Minglan had brought up the He family’s preparations to recognize her officially, building public momentum for it.
Lin Lang didn’t really understand why that kind of “hype” even mattered. Whatever the He family’s intentions were, her response would be the same:
No. Nope. Get lost.
But Gu Qingci knew very well.
Public opinion could destroy someone.
If the He family played the “poor, heartbroken family” card hard enough and came begging Lin Lang to come back, suddenly all the pressure would be on her.
The He family would be seen as innocent victims.
Only a few people knew the truth: that back then, the He family didn’t treat Lin Lang like a person at all — just a pawn to be used, with no real affection, only cold calculation.
But people forget easily. Over time, even those who once knew the truth would start to think: Wasn’t it mainly that fake son, He Jikai, who caused all the trouble? The He family wasn’t really that bad, right? They were victims too!
Now that the villainous fake son was rotting in jail, and the He family was “desperately” trying to reunite with their real daughter, didn’t they deserve a happy ending?
True empathy is rare, but people who tell you to “forgive and forget” are everywhere.
Gu Qingci broke it down for Lin Lang: “The He family just needs to show the right attitude. If you accept, great. If not, they lose nothing.”
“They clean up their public image either way — and they push you into the spotlight.”
Her eyes darkened slightly.
The He family was in serious trouble. Last September, Gu Qingci had taken an opportunity to push them further into a financial mess. Now they were scrambling to survive.
“They’re betting that you won’t be able to resist their fortune.”
After all, their annual sales were over 100 billion yuan!
When business was good, their profits were insane.
Normal people would find it hard not to be tempted.
Especially since, in their eyes, Lin Lang had grown up poor and rough. Sure, she was doing okay now, but compared to the He family’s wealth? Pennies.
Basically, the He family was dangling a golden carrot, hoping greed would bring her back.
Lin Lang just shrugged, totally unfazed, “Pfft. I have money too! Who cares?”
Gu Qingci gave her a strange look, wondering if she had any idea just how rich the He family was. She said dryly, “Do you even know how much profit Ruihe Group makes in a year?”
“Doesn’t matter. It’s none of my business,” Lin Lang said casually. Then she looked at Gu Qingci, confused. “Why do you sound like you actually want me to go back and inherit it?”
Gu Qingci was at a loss for words. She had been about to explain, but after hearing Lin Lang’s comment, she shot her a look of pure disdain.
“You wish. You’d be stuck holding the bag, not inheriting anything!”
She could easily guess what the He family’s real plan was.
If Lin Lang agreed to come back, they’d sweet-talk her, promise to “train” her as the heir, and then dump the mess of Ruihe Group on her. If she somehow managed to save it, they’d snatch it back. If she failed, they’d blame her for the collapse.
There were plenty of hidden traps.
And if Lin Lang refused, that was fine too.
The He family would still clean up their public image by “trying” to reunite with her. They’d even have allies in the business world, eager to mediate and pressure Lin Lang.
Their real goal wasn’t Lin Lang — it was the high-profit project she and Gu Qingci were leading.
If not the He family, it would be Lin Lang’s biological father pulling the same stunt.
Most likely, the two sides would team up.
Lin Lang wasn’t worried. She wasn’t stupid — she had a pretty good idea of what was going on.
Gu Qingci’s personal wealth, even excluding their current company, was over thirty times what Lin Lang had. And that was just one part of the family assets split after her parents’ divorce.
Given how eager people like Yuan Mingjie were to cozy up to the He family, it was clear that Ruihe Group was at least several times richer than the Gu family.
But so what?
Lin Lang’s tough upbringing had taught her this lesson well: Other people’s things are never really yours, no matter who they are — parents, friends, whoever.
Only what you earn yourself is truly yours.
The rest? Just illusions.
Besides, the He family used to care only about having a bloodline heir. Now that the fake son was in jail and the truth was out, Lin Lang doubted they had any real use for her personally.
She had a feeling the reason the He family was suddenly desperate again after months of silence wasn’t about “family love” at all — it was because the project she and Gu Qingci were handling was too attractive. Everyone wanted a piece of it.
Their interest wasn’t in Lin Lang. It was in getting close to Gu Qingci.
Realizing this, Lin Lang’s eyes turned mischievous as she teased her lady:
“I finally get why Auntie Gu warned us to keep a low profile.”
“If they knew we were actually together, they wouldn’t just want to recognize me — the He family would be begging to have you as their daughter-in-law too, right?”
A treasure draws thieves.
Gu Qingci leaned over and kissed Lin Lang gently, stroking her face with tender affection.
This time, it was Lin Lang who had been dragged into trouble because of her.
But hearing Lin Lang’s teasing words, Gu Qingci frowned in dissatisfaction, “Why does it have to be ‘daughter-in-law’? Why can’t it be ‘son-in-law’?”
She could totally be the dominant one!
Lin Lang couldn’t help but laugh at her lady’s strange competitiveness.
Ignoring Gu Qingci’s disapproving glare, she explained, “The He family’s stuck in the stone age, remember? To them, a married daughter is like spilled water — no longer part of the family. But a daughter-in-law? That’s a new asset. Everything she has becomes the family’s property.”
It had nothing to do with who was on top, who was dominant, or anything like that!
