My Villain Is Super Sweet (GL) - CHAPTER 73
Unfortunately, in the end, the fight never broke out.
While Lin Lang was delivering her scathing verbal attacks, deliberately provoking everyone, Gu Qingci and her two companions stepped out from behind the greenery at just the right moment. The group of men looked as if they had seen ghosts. Overwhelmed by the last shred of shame they had, they hurriedly covered their faces and fled in all directions, not even sparing a word of defense.
It was like they really had seen ghosts—Gu Qingci was there, Yuan Ying was there, and so was Fang Baihui, who had spent the day chatting amicably with the school leadership.
All three wore identical expressions of disdain, their eyes brimming with scorn.
The crowd was thunderstruck, feeling like they had just experienced social death on a grand scale.
If they didn’t run now, when would they? Should they stick around, giving this three more time to memorize their faces and names, ensuring complete humiliation before leaving?
In a flash, everyone disappeared. Lin Lang pursed her lips in disappointment at the anticlimactic scene. Turning around, she found the trio smiling at her.
Yuan Ying and Fang Baihui looked at her with sparkling eyes, their faces practically screaming, “Wow, she’s so good at roasting people!” and “I’ve learned so much!”
Gu Qingci, however, was different. Her eyes were full of laughter, her lips subtly curved in a proud smile, her entire demeanor radiating admiration. That look of delighted infatuation made Lin Lang instinctively straighten her back and stand tall, striving to present her best self in front of her beloved.
She even regretted not doing better earlier. If given another chance, she could’ve verbally destroyed those guys until they crumbled on the spot!
With quick strides, Lin Lang closed the gap between herself and Gu Qingci. Gently taking her hand, her movements were cautious, her voice soft and filled with apology, as if afraid of startling her. “I’m sorry you had to go through that.”
Without words, Lin Lang mouthed, “I’m sorry.”
This was something Gu Qingci shouldn’t have had to endure—if not for her.
Gu Qingci didn’t say, “It’s okay, it’s not your fault.” Instead, she lightly squeezed Lin Lang’s hand in return, her smile growing warmer. “Well then, you’d better treat me even better from now on.”
Lin Lang nodded solemnly.
If those insults had been directed at her, she might not have cared—she could’ve just ignored them, treating it like dogs barking. But for some reason, hearing them aimed at Gu Qingci ignited a firestorm of rage inside her. The anger surged like a tidal wave, barely held back.
If it weren’t for Gu’s mother’s earlier advice—that acting on impulse might feel satisfying in the moment but could lead to future trouble—and her awareness that this was Gu Qingci’s alma mater’s celebration, she wouldn’t have wasted time arguing. She would’ve handled it with her fists right away.
Hearing people gossip about her lady made Lin Lang’s heart ache.
Of course, she would do anything for her.
Besides, wasn’t treating her well a given?
Fang Baihui, meanwhile, widened his eyes in growing realization, as if uncovering a long-hidden secret. Even without fully grasping the subtleties of the atmosphere, he couldn’t ignore the pink-hued chemistry between the two.
Recalling what had just been said about Gu Qingci liking women, he finally understood.
In stunned confusion, he turned to Yuan Ying, hoping for a fellow shocked ally, only to find her wearing an expression that said, “This is old news.” Clearly, she had known all along.
So he was the only one completely clueless?
No wonder Gu Qingci had once said she was already taken. He had wondered why he’d never seen the person over the past several months.
No wonder, when he’d asked Gu Qingci to introduce him to someone and mentioned someone like Lin Lang, her face had immediately darkened. Lin Lang had then gone out of her way to avoid him like the plague.
Thinking back to the time he had delivered an extravagant bouquet to Gu Qingci right in front of Lin Lang, he felt like he was cracking apart.
Not to mention all the times he had dragged Gu Qingci into his schemes to fend off admirers, using her as a shield.
His handsome face twisted in anguish. Humiliated to the point of curling his toes, he wished he could vanish on the spot, bury his head, and cry.
Was there still time to kneel and beg Lin Lang to spare his dignity and not expose his embarrassing antics?
Thankfully, Lin Lang had long since gotten used to his obliviously goofy antics and had no intention of holding it against him.
She gave him only a faint, disdainful glance.
Recalling how Gu Qingci had once gossiped on WeChat about Fang Baihui’s attempts to get closer to Yuan Ying, Lin Lang’s eyes softened with a hint of pity.
In matters of love, he didn’t even know how to make an impression. Instead, he acted clumsy and said the wrong things—what a waste.
After agreeing to meet Fang Baihui and Yuan Ying later, Gu Qingci led Lin Lang into the banquet hall, introducing her to various important figures and saying her goodbyes.
To everyone she met, Gu Qingci made sure to emphasize, “This is my partner.”
The subtle joy in her heart was evident as if she were publicly declaring that Lin Lang wasn’t just an assistant but her true partner in every sense.
Professionally and personally.
Or, as some might call it, a life partner.
Whether or not people fully grasped the deeper meaning, they all understood one thing: Lin Lang was someone Gu Qingci valued highly. And when they heard Lin Lang also owned a security company, their interest grew.
Who wouldn’t want better personal safety, especially among those with wealth?
The connections were established, and Gu Qingci was satisfied.
When they returned home, she was still smiling.
Lin Lang found it amusing. “That happy, huh?”
Gu Qingci tilted her head up proudly. “Yes.”
After all, she had been overshadowed by Fang Baihui’s antics all day!
But now, she had her rightful place beside Lin Lang—something Fang Baihui could never achieve.
Over the weekend, Gu Qingci was mysteriously preoccupied. She spent hours on her phone or in the study, immersed in something on her computer. But as soon as Lin Lang made a sound, she would panic, shutting off the screen or quickly switching pages.
Lin Lang found it odd but didn’t pry. She was too busy feeling guilty about Friday night’s events and was determined to treat Gu Qingci even better, so she let it slide.
Until Gu Qingci began measuring her finger sizes with a soft tape measure.
Why was she suddenly taking her finger measurements?
Could it be…?
Lin Lang’s eyes lit up with anticipation.
But why measure both middle and index fingers?
Unless…
Lin Lang convinced herself it was a diversion tactic—a clever way to keep her guessing.
After all, if Gu Qingci had only measured her left middle finger, wouldn’t that have been too obvious?
As for why it wasn’t the ring finger—well, that could wait for marriage or later, right?
Lin Lang decided she couldn’t let Gu Qingci have all the glory. She secretly ordered a pair of custom rings herself.
But days turned into weeks, and even after Lin Lang received her rings, Gu Qingci made no move.
Finally, on August 21st, Gu Qingci’s birthday, Lin Lang presented her gift—a ring.
Gu Qingci was delighted, rewarding Lin Lang with a kiss. She immediately had Lin Lang place it on her finger. The fit was perfect.
Admiring the sleek design and understated sparkle of the tiny diamonds, Gu Qingci asked with a smile, “Does it look good?”
“Of course, it does!”
Lin Lang then motioned for Gu Qingci to put the other ring on her finger.
As Gu Qingci complied, she teased, “When did you even get these? The size is perfect.”
Lin Lang thought, Of course—it was custom-made based on measurements!
She gently hinted, “Remember when we measured together back in April?”
Gu Qingci was puzzled. “In April? Together?”
Lin Lang had to make it clearer. “At your school’s anniversary celebration.”
With Lin Lang’s insistence, Gu Qingci’s memory gradually resurfaced. And with it came the realization of why she had taken those measurements.
Her face turned bright red.
How was she supposed to explain that she hadn’t been measuring Lin Lang’s fingers for a ring at all?
Instead, she had been gathering data… to scientifically confirm whether certain rumors about intimate satisfaction were exaggerated or real.
That night’s gossip had left an impression on her.
After reading countless scientific papers and analyzing the data, she had concluded that Lin Lang did, in fact, possess all the qualities to consistently bring her overwhelming joy—far above the average.
But explaining all this? Absolutely mortifying.
Faced with Lin Lang’s persistent questions, Gu Qingci eventually broke down and stammered out the truth, cheeks aflame.
And Lin Lang, in her usual mischievous manner, leaned in close, her voice low and sultry.
“You know,” she said, her tone dripping with implication, “measuring like that isn’t accurate.”
“It’s better to measure in person.”
Before Gu Qingci could process the meaning, Lin Lang demonstrated exactly what she meant by “measuring in person.”
In the end, Gu Qingci understood—on a very personal level—how Lin Lang truly measured up.
