- Chapter 39 - Comforting an Alpha in Heat-Induced Delirium
Qi Ying frantically searched her room for her phone, rummaging through drawers and tossing the bedding aside, but it was nowhere to be found. In her desperation, she accidentally knocked over the bedside lamp and collapsed onto the floor, dizzy and disoriented, clutching her head in agony.
Her breathing grew increasingly labored, her entire body burning as if set aflame.
It was unbearable.
Why did it hurt so much?
Wasn’t this just a game? How could it feel like life or death?
Memories flashed through Qi Ying’s mind like a revolving lantern. She worried—if she died here, would anyone even notice? She had rushed in without leaving a will.
Her family didn’t know her bank password.
Unfinished client orders still lingered in her WeChat messages.
And if she died here, would her body even be transported out? How would she be cremated?
Her thoughts spiraled wildly, her mind foggy with pain.
Click.
A sliver of light pierced the darkness as the door creaked open. Qi Ying slowly lifted her head and saw Xing Xiaochu silhouetted in the doorway.
Xiaochu was visibly nervous, her eyes wide with apprehension, yet she mustered the courage to step inside. The chaotic state of the room startled her, but her gaze quickly settled on Qi Ying, slumped at the foot of the bed.
Qi Ying’s eyes burned with a feral intensity, the whites bloodshot, as if she might lunge forward and tear Xiaochu apart at any second.
A shiver ran down Xiaochu’s spine, but concern outweighed her fear. She took a tentative step forward—her first time ever entering Qi Ying’s room.
“Big sis…”
Clutching the doorknob, Xiaochu spoke in a trembling whisper, trying to reason with her. “You’re in heat. I brought suppressants. If you take them, you’ll feel better.”
Qi Ying pressed her hands to her temples, frowning. “Sup…pressants?”
Xiaochu nodded. Seeing Qi Ying’s suffering, she added hesitantly, “They’ll ease the pain. Do you want to take them yourself, or… should I help you?”
Dizziness surged again. The faint scent of osmanthus from Xiaochu’s skin—now much milder—only deepened Qi Ying’s torment. She shook her head violently. “Stay away! Get out!”
Xiaochu flinched but didn’t retreat.
She studied Qi Ying carefully, noticing how she kept pounding her own head, struggling to stay lucid. Remembering Qi Ying had mentioned recently presenting as an alpha, Xiaochu ventured, “Big sis… do you not know what a heat cycle is?”
Qi Ying hung her head in silence—an unspoken admission.
Panic flickered across Xiaochu’s face. Gripping the suppressant vial, she approached swiftly. Before Qi Ying could react, Xiaochu rolled up her sleeve and said firmly, “Don’t move. I’ll take care of it.”
Qi Ying obeyed, frozen in place as Xiaochu exposed her arm, then pressed the needle of the suppressant against her skin and injected it without hesitation.
As the inhibitor was injected, Qi Ying’s eyes visibly calmed down. She lowered her gaze to look at the liquid entering her arm, her expression somewhat dazed, as if she hadn’t fully regained awareness yet.
Xing Xiaochu skillfully packed up the medical supplies, then carefully observed the person before her, waving a hand in front of Qi Ying’s face.
Qi Ying’s eyes flickered slightly before she raised her hand and grasped Xing Xiaochu’s wrist.
“Sister?”
Xing Xiaochu looked at her curiously and asked, “How are you feeling now? Can you stand up?”
Qi Ying didn’t speak. Her dark eyes gazed calmly at Xing Xiaochu before pulling the younger girl’s hand closer, gently pressing it against her own cheek.
Xing Xiaochu: “……?”
This was strange. Why did Qi Ying still seem so out of it?
Finding this odd, Xing Xiaochu tried to pull her hand back but found Qi Ying’s grip unyielding. With no other choice, she tried reasoning: “Sister, could you let go of me first? Is the inhibitor not working? Should I take you to the hospital?”
Qi Ying remained silent, only shifting her gaze to Xing Xiaochu’s face when she heard her voice. Watching the younger girl’s lips move, Qi Ying’s throat worked slightly before leaning in to plant a soft kiss on Xing Xiaochu’s lips.
Xing Xiaochu was so startled she fell backward onto the floor, dragging Qi Ying down with her. However, Qi Ying didn’t land on top of her, instead bracing herself on her elbows and burying her face in the crook of Xing Xiaochu’s neck.
Frozen in shock by this behavior, Xing Xiaochu began regretting ever entering the room. She should have just called an ambulance to have medical professionals deal with Qi Ying during her estrus cycle.
Instead, she was being taken advantage of like this.
But after a long moment, Qi Ying did nothing beyond resting her head on Xing Xiaochu’s shoulder, which allowed some of the younger girl’s tension to ease. Lying on the cold floor while the person atop her radiated heat was making Xing Xiaochu increasingly uncomfortable.
“Sister?” Xing Xiaochu poked Qi Ying’s waist with a finger and asked quietly, “Could you let me get up first?”
After a few seconds’ pause, Qi Ying reluctantly lifted her head from Xing Xiaochu’s neck and pulled the younger girl up from the floor—only to immediately embrace her tightly.
This new position made it even easier for Qi Ying to nuzzle against Xing Xiaochu’s shoulder.
Blushing like a ripe tomato as Qi Ying held her close and buried against her neck, Xing Xiaochu tried pushing against the older girl but found her immovable. However, since Qi Ying seemed content just resting there without further advances, Xing Xiaochu felt somewhat reassured.
It appeared the inhibitor was working after all.
But why was Qi Ying acting so strangely?
Puzzled, Xing Xiaochu struggled to retrieve her phone to search for answers. Noticing this, Qi Ying’s dark eyes narrowed in displeasure at the device.
With a swift motion, she slapped the phone out of Xing Xiaochu’s hand, then tightened her embrace, pulling the younger girl even closer.
“Mmmph…”
Xing Xiaochu could barely breathe from the tight hold. Patting the alpha’s shoulder in protest, she complained, “Loosen up! You’re crushing me!”
With obvious reluctance, Qi Ying eased her grip slightly. Raising her eyelids to look up at Xing Xiaochu, she then lifted her head and began kissing the younger girl’s lips again.
Xing Xiaochu pushed against Qi Ying’s chin, but ultimately couldn’t match her strength. Qi Ying grabbed her wrist, pulling her close, and pried open Xiaochu’s mouth.
Her tongue slid in like a slippery loach. Thanks to the suppressants, the taste wasn’t overpowering, yet Xiaochu still felt dizzy, as if drunk, her legs going weak from the intensity of the kiss.
Against her will, she began responding. Her heart pounded so fiercely it seemed ready to leap from her chest. Even with suppressants, she feared she might lose all reason in the next moment, surrendering completely to Qi Ying’s reckless advances.
She didn’t want to end up like this, so she struggled faintly.
Qi Ying bit down on Xiaochu’s lips, ignoring her resistance, and cupped the back of her head to deepen the kiss.
How long had it lasted? Xiaochu’s limbs were limp, her mind foggy, her lips swollen and red from relentless sucking. Tears welled in her eyes as she stared at Qi Ying, terrified of what might come next.
When her phone had been knocked away earlier, she’d caught a glimpse of something—someone mentioning that alphas who presented late could experience unpredictable ruts. Some lost all rationality, while others, like Qi Ying, became overwhelmingly affectionate.
If a highly compatible Omega were nearby, they might be able to soothe the alpha with their pheromones.
Blushing, Xiaochu tentatively released her own scent, testing whether it would work.
The sweet fragrance of osmanthus mingled with the tartness of plum wine, filling the room. Qi Ying licked Xiaochu’s lips, gradually calming as the scent enveloped her.
Seizing the chance, Xiaochu turned her face away, her eyes red-rimmed as she glared at the woman holding her. Pressing her lips together, she muttered, “Let go of my hand.”
Qi Ying hesitated, glancing at the wrist she still gripped, before reluctantly releasing it.
The moment she was free, Xiaochu scrambled out of Qi Ying’s arms, lunging for her phone. But the second she moved, Qi Ying panicked, snatching both her and the phone back.
Annoyed, Xiaochu shoved Qi Ying’s face away, confirming what she’d read: a highly compatible Omega could soothe a rut-addled alpha. It seemed Qi Ying’s late presentation had left her disoriented during her first rut.
Though Qi Ying’s biting and clinging was infuriating, her confused state was also pitiable.
Qi Ying wrapped her arms around Xiaochu’s waist, gazing at her pleadingly before leaning in to capture her lips again.
Xiaochu frowned but obediently closed her eyes and parted her lips, allowing the kiss. According to her phone, aside from pheromones, physical intimacy could also help calm an incoherent alpha.
Qi Ying had saved her, after all. If all she had to endure was a little unwanted affection… surely it wasn’t a big deal.
Xing Xiaochu decided to consider it repayment for a favor owed.
For over half an hour—though more accurately, half an hour of Qi Ying relentlessly taking—Xiaochu endured the kisses until, whether from exhaustion or drowsiness, Qi Ying’s eyelids grew heavy, as if she were about to fall asleep.
Xiaochu pressed her sore, swollen lips together, watching Qi Ying’s drowsy expression with a mix of exasperation and fascination.
“Sister, are you sleepy?” Xiaochu tilted her head to look at the drowsy woman. It was worth noting that Qi Ying had never shown such an expression before—she was always efficient, sharp, and the very picture of a reliable adult. This was the first time Xiaochu had seen her with those dazed, puppy-like eyes.
Qi Ying blinked and lifted her gaze to meet Xiaochu’s, but she didn’t say anything. Instead, she loosened the arm that had been wrapped around Xiaochu’s waist, got up, then pulled Xiaochu onto the bed before hugging her and closing her eyes again.
Being held like this was unbearably uncomfortable for Xiaochu. She wriggled around for a while before finally turning to face away, but Qi Ying clung too tightly—her breath even seemed to brush against Xiaochu’s neck, making her fear that Qi Ying might bite her. After a moment’s thought, Xiaochu squirmed back around to face her.
By now, Qi Ying had already fallen asleep, her eyes shut and her breathing steady. The sight brought Xiaochu a faint sense of relief. Everything had happened so quickly today that she still felt unsettled.
An alpha’s rut would last seven days—who knew if Qi Ying would even be lucid tomorrow?
Xiaochu gazed worriedly at the person lying beside her. If Qi Ying woke up still like this… what was she supposed to do?
