- Chapter 55 - "Can You Kiss Me, Please?"
Su Yun’s cold demeanor startled the three children. Xing Xiaochu widened her eyes slightly, clearly puzzled by how the previously warm-hearted Su Yun had turned so… hostile after just a week apart.
Without even glancing at them, Su Yun brushed past the trio and took her seat.
Chen Dongdong frowned indignantly. “What’s with the attitude?”
Su Yun finally looked up with a dismissive glance. “This is how I always talk. Got a problem?”
As Chen Dongdong bristled, Xin Ya quickly tugged her sleeve, shooting a meaningful look before saying to Xing Xiaochu, “Class is starting. We’ll catch up later.”
Xing Xiaochu nodded, watching them return to their seats. When she turned back, she found Su Yun already staring at her—those dark eyes simmering with something between resentment and hurt.
Her chest tightened. “Su Yun…”
With a scoff, Su Yun yanked her uniform over her head and slumped onto the desk. Xing Xiaochu reached out instinctively, but the other girl didn’t budge.
“I was sick last week,” Xing Xiaochu whispered to the uniform-covered lump. “I only saw your messages this morning. I know I broke our promise, but… maybe this weekend? I’ll cook for you at your place?”
No response.
Gathering courage, Xing Xiaochu poked Su Yun’s waist. The uniform flew off as Su Yun sat bolt upright, glaring. Just as Xing Xiaochu brightened—
“You think my home’s a hotel?” Su Yun’s voice was glacial. “Come and go as you please?”
Xing Xiaochu froze.
“And that smell,” Su Yun added with a wrinkle of her nose. “Reeks. Tone it down.”
Xing Xiaochu’s breath hitched. The Su Yun who’d once been kind now hurled insults without remorse.
Lifting her sleeve, she inhaled the faint osmanthus-and-plum-wine scent—a blend from the temporary mark. It wasn’t unpleasant, really.
Had her suppressant worn off? Fishing out the spray, she doused herself thoroughly until only sterile neutrality remained.
The feeling of being disliked kept Xing Xiaochu anxious all day. She wanted to talk to Su Yun, but every time she tried, the girl was either asleep or walking away without even turning her head. Chen Dongdong couldn’t stand it anymore—if it weren’t for Xin Ya and Xing Xiaochu holding her back, she would’ve gone up and punched Su Yun.
“Who does she think she is, acting all high and mighty?” Chen Dongdong was still fuming after school, clenching her small fists as she declared, “If you two hadn’t stopped me, I would’ve given her a piece of my mind.”
Xin Ya tried to calm her down: “Come on, with those skinny arms of yours? She’d probably knock you out cold.”
Chen Dongdong huffed, “Why are you taking her side?”
Worried they might argue over her, Xing Xiaochu quickly intervened, “It’s fine, really. She just ignores me and says some harsh things, but Su Yun isn’t that bad.”
Xin Ya glanced at Xing Xiaochu, hesitating to speak, while Chen Dongdong retorted, “Since when is she ‘not that bad’?”
Xing Xiaochu mumbled, “She helped me before.”
Chen Dongdong paused. “…That’s true.”
If not for Su Yun, Xing Xiaochu’s scumbag father would’ve caused even more trouble. So, in a way, Su Yun wasn’t entirely bad—just had a foul mouth.
As the three chatted, they reached the school gate, searching as usual for the familiar figure under the streetlight. Instead, they found a sleek black car parked where Qi Ying usually stood—a car so expensive it drew curious glances from parents and students alike.
Just as they wondered where Qi Ying had gone, the car door swung open. Dressed in a trench coat, Qi Ying removed her sunglasses and waved at them with a bright smile, delighted by their stunned expressions.
After spending that intimate week with Xing Xiaochu, Qi Ying had decided to buy a car. Since in-game vehicles weren’t pricey and her paycheck had just arrived, she splurged on the most expensive model in the shop. She’d considered a sports car but opted for practicality—maybe someday, if they upgraded to a villa with a garage.
Leaning against the car, Qi Ying naturally reached out as Xing Xiaochu ran over, pulling her close. The moment Xing Xiaochu caught Qi Ying’s scent, her face flushed. After a week together and their mutual marking, Qi Ying now carried her aroma unmistakably. Thankfully, Chen Dongdong and Xin Ya, being betas, couldn’t detect it—but any alpha or omega passing by would know exactly how close they’d been.
“Big sis, is this your car?” Chen Dongdong gushed, running her hands over the glossy surface. “This must’ve cost a fortune!”
Qi Ying tore her gaze from Xing Xiaochu’s blushing face and grinned at the other two. “Want me to take you for a spin?”
The girls cheered, eagerly nodding. Qi Ying ushered them into the backseat, keeping Xing Xiaochu beside her, before hitting the gas and speeding off.
When Qi Ying drove away from the school, several rebellious girls were smoking at the alley entrance, Su Yun among them. She held a slender cigarette between her fingers, leaning against the wall as she exhaled a white smoke ring, her face flickering between light and shadow in the haze.
A red-haired girl among them tilted her chin slightly and said to Su Yun, “Hey, isn’t that the little Omega you’ve been looking after? Why’s she getting in someone else’s car? Didn’t you manage to get her?”
Su Yun gave a casual glance, watching the black sedan disappear around the corner before replying indifferently, “Who told you I was chasing her?”
“Weren’t you?” another girl chimed in. “That doesn’t make sense. If you weren’t interested, why’d you help her deal with that father of hers?”
“Just couldn’t stand that kind of Alpha,” Su Yun said coolly. “I’d never like an Omega like her.”
The girls exchanged glances and shrugged. Whatever. Whether Su Yun liked Xing Xiaochu or not was none of their business.
Qi Ying didn’t take the kids far. Just a short distance from the school was an artificial lake, where she took them for a drive. It was their first time in a luxury car, and Chen Dongdong even exclaimed to Xin Ya in amazement, “This is the first time I can actually stretch my legs in the backseat!”
Xin Ya was equally fascinated, touching everything inside the car with wide-eyed curiosity.
After parking by the lake for a while, Qi Ying let Chen Dongdong and the others take pictures of the car while she took Xing Xiaochu to a nearby milk tea shop to buy drinks. Xing Xiaochu stuck to Qi Ying like a piece of sticky rice cake, following her everywhere. Noticing this, Qi Ying pulled her into a corner seat after placing their order and held her hand.
“What’s this?” Qi Ying leaned in close, teasing. “So clingy? You’re practically glued to me.”
Xing Xiaochu blushed, embarrassed. “No, I just wanted to see what you ordered.”
Qi Ying squeezed her hand—soft and pliant, perfect for holding.
“Jiejie,” Xing Xiaochu looked up at her with bright, dark eyes, curiosity brimming. “How come you suddenly bought a car? It must be really expensive, right? I heard Chen Dongdong say it costs at least over ten million.”
“Not that much,” Qi Ying chuckled. “Don’t worry about it. I can afford both the car and you.”
Xing Xiaochu smiled shyly, squeezing Qi Ying’s hand. “You don’t have to take care of me. Once I get into university and graduate, I can help support us too.”
“Have you thought about which university you want to go to?” Qi Ying asked with a smile.
Xing Xiaochu pondered for a moment. “I’ve never left this place my whole life. I was thinking of staying local for university too, so… I can see you every week.”
Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, her cheeks flushing pink like sweet osmanthus cakes.
Qi Ying’s heart melted. She cupped Xing Xiaochu’s face with one hand and murmured, “So you only want to see me once a week? I think about you all day long.”
Xing Xiaochu’s face burned, her gaze darting away nervously, her palms growing damp with sweat.
Qi Ying wasn’t about to let her off the hook. With a playful smile, she asked in a low voice, “Did you think about me while you were at school?”
Xing Xiaochu’s face turned completely red as she stammered, “I… I did.”
Qi Ying pressed further, “How did you think about me?”
Xing Xiaochu: “…”
Qi Ying continued, “I couldn’t bear the thought of being apart from you and wanted to see you sooner.” She tilted her head and asked the flustered girl, “What about you? How did you think about me?”
Xing Xiaochu had turned as red as a boiled shrimp, utterly embarrassed. When she tried to turn away, Qi Ying gently pulled her back and whispered in her ear, “Give me a kiss, won’t you?”
Xing Xiaochu looked at her in shock, her pupils trembling slightly.
Just as Xing Xiaochu was at a loss for how to respond, their milk tea was ready.
“I’ll get it,” Qi Ying said, giving Xing Xiaochu’s cheek an affectionate rub before adding in a whisper, “We’ll continue the kiss later.”
Xing Xiaochu was overwhelmed with shyness. She watched blankly as Qi Ying got up to fetch their drinks at the counter, and even when being led to the car afterward, she still hadn’t fully processed what had happened. Though they were officially dating, and though they’d already spent her heat cycle together… but… but…
Wasn’t this moving way too fast?
Shouldn’t the first day of dating just involve holding hands?
Clutching her warm milk tea, Xing Xiaochu couldn’t help but marvel inwardly—was this what adult relationships were like?
