My Wife Always Wants to Run Away - Chapter 11
After nearly finishing unpacking, Tang Jinzhi decided to take a bath to unwind.
At the hospital, she could only manage quick showers, which always felt awkward. Now, she could finally relax and soak properly.
Jie Xiangyi greeted her before leaving the bathroom.
When Jie Xiangyi mentioned she had a night shift and wouldn’t be back until morning, Tang Jinzhi felt numb.
Doctors really work too hard.
Even as she soaked in the tub, Tang Jinzhi was still calculating how many hours Jie Xiangyi would have to rest tomorrow.
“Sigh…”
Tang Jinzhi sighed, feeling bored after soaking for a while.
She checked her phone and saw it was almost 6 PM. Jie Xiangyi hadn’t even had time to eat dinner with her.
Tang Jinzhi:Â Are you guys busy at night too?
Jie Xiangyi had just arrived at the hospital and hadn’t started her shift yet. She replied quickly:Â My department is relatively quiet at night.
Tang Jinzhi:Â Still, it must be exhausting. Aren’t you also working on a paper?
Jie Xiangyi:Â It’s manageable. Nothing too bad.
Tang Jinzhi was about to admire Jie Xiangyi’s positive attitude when another message popped up.
Jie Xiangyi:Â Just putting on a brave face.
Tang Jinzhi: ……
Tang Jinzhi’s eye twitched. Jie Xiangyi, please stop saying things like that. It doesn’t suit your character.
Tang Jinzhi: Doctor Xie, you’ve worked so hard. Remember to eat dinner. If you can’t hold on any longer, reach out to me—though I might not be much help.
After exchanging a few casual remarks with Jie Xiangyi, Tang Jinzhi finally clicked on the account name card Jie had sent her earlier.
She glanced at the nickname and profile picture before switching accounts. Sure enough, the person was on her private account, but she hadn’t saved their contact information.
Tang Jinzhi casually added a “TW” note to prevent future confusion.
After saving the note, she clicked into the chat history. It was then she realized it was all one-sided messages from the other party.
So the other person’s phone number really had been blocked. Moreover, this contact method had been added on the day she was hospitalized, and she had accepted the request back then only because she didn’t know who it was.
After skimming through the meaningless spam, Tang Jinzhi paused for a few seconds before blocking the person.
My own mother wants to attend her daughter’s engagement banquet but has no way in, so she resorts to showing up uninvited and getting desperate? What a classless mother, Tang Jinzhi thought to herself.
After blocking Tang Wan, Tang Jinzhi didn’t immediately exit the chat. Instead, she opened the conversation and fired off a barrage of trash talk.
After all, she’s not my mom, and definitely not the original owner’s mom. We’re the fake heiress here—why should I be polite to someone else’s mother?
Relying on my help?
Do you not have hands, feet, or a brain? If you’re relying on me in this situation, you’re truly out of luck. You might as well pray to heaven for help.
Are you sure you’re my biological mother? I don’t remember ever having a mom like you.
Then I must be terribly unfilial, not even knowing my real mother was still alive.
Every Qingming Festival, I burn tens of millions in offerings for my mother. If you can repay that, I’ll acknowledge you as my mom and even worship you.
Otherwise, stop pretending to be my mother, or I’ll report you for child trafficking.
Tang Jinzhi unleashed this verbal assault while Tang Wan, on the other end, seethed with rage. Every attempt to reply with insults resulted in red exclamation marks, leaving her helpless to watch Tang Jinzhi’s relentless mockery.
Stung speechless, Tang Wan’s heart burned with fury, silently cursing Tang Jinzhi countless times.
Tang Jinzhi meticulously quoted and replied to every message from the other side, ensuring not a single insult went unanswered. Her relentless persistence finally began to unsettle Jie Xiangyi.
“Hey, Doctor Xie, why are you calling me? Can’t you handle her anymore?”
Still riding the high of her trash talk, Tang Jinzhi’s opening salvo was perfectly executed, freezing Jie Xiangyi in stunned silence for two full seconds.
Jie Xiangyi’s forehead creased with dark lines. “Your mother called me—multiple times. When I finally answered, she started ranting about you… calling you ill-mannered… and then… she demanded I warn you to remove her from your blacklist.”
Tang Jinzhi’s anger flared as Jie Xiangyi finished speaking.
“What?! She actually bothered you again? And she’s still acting like she’s in charge?” Tang Jinzhi’s recently relaxed brow furrowed anew as she reopened the chat window. “Wait there. I’ll give her a piece of my mind for you. Just remember to block her afterward.”
Jie Xiangyi rubbed her temples. Tang Wan’s condescending tone had left her deeply uncomfortable. The woman’s self-righteous lecturing, completely trampling Tang Jinzhi’s dignity, had made Jie Xiangyi’s bl00d boil on Tang Jinzhi’s behalf.
Jie Xiangyi sighed deeply. “My aunt gave her my contact information because she’s your mother. Out of politeness, I didn’t reject her call earlier. I’m calling you now to confirm your stance. I’ll block her immediately.”
Tang Jinzhi’s expression relaxed slightly. She had been genuinely worried that Jie Xiangyi would try to persuade her to reconcile with her mother or lecture her about family values—she absolutely hated hearing such platitudes.
Fortunately, Jie Xiangyi was a sensible person. Tang Jinzhi blurted out a harsh truth as if speaking in anger: “She’s not my mother. I don’t have such a shameful mother. Blocking her is the right thing to do.”
The corner of Jie Xiangyi’s mouth twitched involuntarily. “Blocked. You’ve already given her a piece of your mind. Why not go back and yell a few more times to vent your anger? Don’t let it fester and harm your health.”
Tang Jinzhi’s fingers flew across her phone’s keyboard as she replied to Jie Xiangyi: “Still yelling! And she’s really not my mother!”
Jie Xiangyi sighed helplessly. “Okay… I understand.”
Tang Jinzhi’s tone grew defiant. “You don’t seem to believe me. Let me tell you, I’m actually an orphan.”
Jie Xiangyi paused. “…Stop joking around. I need to hang up now—I have work to do.”
“Alright, Doctor Xie,” Tang Jinzhi said. “I’ll keep cursing.”
The call ended.
Tang Jinzhi stopped tapping her phone screen, her gaze fixed on the display, her expression unreadable.
“Why won’t she believe me?” she murmured, sighing softly as she set the phone aside. The bath had been strangely uncomfortable.
After drying her hair, Tang Jinzhi skipped dinner and collapsed onto her bed.
Though she’d spent the morning lying down at the hospital, she hadn’t slept well, waking up before dawn and remaining restless all day. After being discharged, she’d rushed across town to get her marriage certificate. She was exhausted.
As she settled under the covers, Tang Jinzhi mentally reviewed her current situation.
Hmm… nothing’s changed.
She pondered Tang Wan, whom she’d recently rebuffed.
The woman couldn’t even attend the engagement banquet of her own nominal daughter. Anyone with half a brain would realize someone was working against her, and Tang Wan herself lacked the means to gain entry.
Tang Jinzhi resolved to avoid further contact with her. Too annoying.
As for Tang Wan’s ambition to attend the banquet, Tang Jinzhi wished her luck.
Tang Jinzhi knew her place. She had no right to demand more. Venting her anger had been satisfying enough. Her real worry now was the potential exposure of her fake heiress identity.
Not that she was particularly concerned.
Tang Jinzhi didn’t dwell on what might happen when that day came. Her real fear was facing such a crisis before she’d established herself in her field.
She hadn’t even started making money yet! She had to seize this golden opportunity.
What cures all worries? Getting filthy rich!
Tang Jinzhi mentally cheered herself on, then rolled over and decided to take a nap.
