Tang Jinzhi stiffened her neck and glared at Jie Xiangyi.

She hadn’t even said anything yet, and Jie Xiangyi was already claiming she didn’t have it…

Remembering her earlier distraction, Tang Jinzhi averted her gaze, her face flushing crimson as expected.

Oblivious to the awkwardness, Jie Xiangyi stubbornly maintained eye contact, staring directly at Tang Jinzhi.

She’s blushing again, she thought with amusement.

But before she could observe for another two seconds, the newly charged atmosphere between them was abruptly shattered by Zhang Yueqi’s sudden outburst.

“Jie Xiangyi!”

Faced with Zhang Yueqi’s furious expression, Tang Jinzhi immediately forgot her earlier embarrassment and instinctively stepped forward to shield Jie Xiangyi.

She lunged forward to scratch Jie Xiangyi, but Tang Jinzhi stepped in front, blocking her path.

“Aiya, what’s going on here?” Tang Jinzhi asked hastily, restraining Zhang Yueqi.

As if suddenly remembering Jie Xiangyi had a wife and realizing she could complain, Zhang Yueqi pointed at Jie Xiangyi, her voice pitifully aggrieved. “She’s ruining me!”

“She made my mom cut off my allowance!”

Tang Jinzhi glanced at the motionless Jie Xiangyi before turning back, clearing her throat. She adopted the gentlest, most coaxing tone she could muster. “It’s okay, you’re working for me now. You won’t have time to go out and spend much money anyway.”

Zhang Yueqi took a deep breath. “Then what am I supposed to eat? I don’t even have money for food!”

She glanced at Jie Xiangyi, then back at Tang Jinzhi, repeating the motion several times until realization dawned.

Her pupils dilated, and she stumbled back two steps in disbelief, pointing at Tang Jinzhi with a wounded expression. “Was this all a setup between you two?!”

Zhang Yueqi felt she had uncovered the truth!

Tang Jinzhi forced a dry laugh. “That’s nonsense. It’s all Jie Xiangyi’s fault.”

Just yesterday, she had wondered if they were moving too fast. Yet today, she had already hugged Tang Jinzhi three times.

I’m getting too comfortable with this, she thought.

“Are you just going to play around outside every day and never do anything serious?”
