My Wife Always Wants to Run Away - Chapter 39
After a moment’s contemplation, Tang Jinzhi beckoned Xie Xiangyi closer with a smile. “Come here,” she said.
Xie Xiangyi’s eyes lit up at the invitation. She leaned forward nervously, her face inches from Tang Jinzhi’s.
She had only said it casually, never truly expecting Tang Jinzhi to return the kiss.
Tang Jinzhi suppressed the amusement in her eyes and cleared her throat, feigning embarrassment. “Close your eyes,” she murmured.
The ever-obedient Xie Xiangyi immediately shut her eyes, holding her breath in tense anticipation.
Tang Jinzhi’s lips curved upward uncontrollably as she leaned closer, her gaze lingering on every delicate, youthful feature of Xie Xiangyi’s face.
Even with her eyes closed, Xie Xiangyi could vaguely sense Tang Jinzhi’s approach. Her fingers curled slightly at her sides, a mix of nervousness and anticipation building within her—until Tang Jinzhi shattered that expectation with her own hands.
Tang Jinzhi let out a mischievous laugh, her hands darting forward to playfully pinch and squeeze Xie Xiangyi’s cheeks. But before she could tease her for long, Xie Xiangyi’s hands shot out and seized her wrists.
Xie Xiangyi looked at Tang Jinzhi, whose hands were still pressed against her face, with a mixture of exasperation and resignation. She should have known it wouldn’t be that simple. All that nervous anticipation for nothing.
Her voice carried a deep, resentful tone. “Not fun.”
Tang Jinzhi glanced at her fingers, then lightly tapped Xie Xiangyi’s cheek. Suddenly struck with an idea, her playful nature flared. She grinned. “Then close your eyes again.”
She added firmly, “Just one more time.”
Xie Xiangyi eyed her suspiciously, hesitating for a moment before releasing Tang Jinzhi’s wrist. Tang Jinzhi’s earnest demeanor convinced her to trust her one last time, and she obediently closed her eyes.
Tang Jinzhi’s smile turned mischievous. She lowered her gaze to her palm, then raised her hand, wiggling two fingers in front of Xie Xiangyi’s face. A fleeting thought of being slapped crossed her mind, but she quickly dismissed it. She straightened her fingers and gently pressed them against Xie Xiangyi’s lips.
The instant her fingers touched Xie Xiangyi’s lips, Tang Jinzhi felt the other woman’s body tense visibly. Xie Xiangyi froze, her body stiffening. Tang Jinzhi could sense her shock, surprise, and the way her breathing quickened.
Yet Xie Xiangyi didn’t pull away.
Tang Jinzhi’s long lashes trembled, her heart skipping a beat.
The moment Xie Xiangyi opened her eyes, Tang Jinzhi saw the same panic in her gaze as she felt herself.
But unlike Xie Xiangyi, who was utterly flustered, Tang Jinzhi’s panic stemmed purely from having done something wrong. She quickly withdrew the two fingers that had been pressed against Xie Xiangyi’s lips, as if they had been burned.
Xie Xiangyi now clearly understood she had been tricked again.
The embarrassment of thinking she had been kissed instantly transformed into mortification and anger when she saw the culprit looking guilty. Xie Xiangyi took a deep, furious breath.
Enraged and humiliated, she pointed a trembling finger at Tang Jinzhi, wanting to curse her but unable to find the words. After a long pause, she finally sputtered out, “You’re going too far!”
Tang Jinzhi squeezed the two fingers she had used earlier, still feeling the lingering warmth of Xie Xiangyi’s lips on her skin.
She cautiously glanced up to gauge Xie Xiangyi’s expression, but Xie Xiangyi caught her immediately.
Xie Xiangyi glared at her, her face flushed with displeasure.
Tang Jinzhi knew she was now both embarrassed and furious.
“Ahem, why don’t you…”
Before she could finish, Xie Xiangyi cut her off angrily. “Why don’t I what? Do you think I’m that stupid?”
Close my eyes again and let you trick me?
Xie Xiangyi felt utterly foolish for having fallen for Tang Jinzhi’s tricks twice before. She hadn’t learned from her mistakes and had stumbled into the same trap again.
Tang Jinzhi tugged at Xie Xiangyi’s sleeve, blinking innocently. “Don’t be angry,” she said.
Xie Xiangyi snorted coldly. “No, I’m not angry. Only the living can feel anger. I’m already dead.”
Dead from Tang Jinzhi’s teasing.
Tang Jinzhi wanted to laugh at Xie Xiangyi’s antics, but she forced herself to suppress it. Straightening her expression, she leaned in swiftly under Xie Xiangyi’s wary gaze and planted a firm kiss on her still-puffed-up cheek.
The wariness on Xie Xiangyi’s face vanished instantly.
She panicked, unable to meet Tang Jinzhi’s eyes. This was completely different from when Tang Jinzhi had told her to close her eyes and prepare. This sudden, unexpected delight left her utterly flustered.
It was the first time Tang Jinzhi had kissed her unprompted. Even after being tricked twice before, Xie Xiangyi felt like she had come out ahead. She decided to consider it Tang Jinzhi’s revenge for the two times she had kissed her without permission.
Xie Xiangyi quickly convinced herself to forgive Tang Jinzhi.
Tang Jinzhi glanced at Xie Xiangyi’s earlobes, now flushed crimson as if about to drip bl00d. Her gaze flickered, and she felt her own cheeks growing warm.
“Ahem, I’ll go check on Zhang Yueqi outside.”
As Tang Jinzhi turned away, Xie Xiangyi quickly covered her burning face, knowing it must be flushed crimson. Her gaze remained fixed on Tang Jinzhi’s retreating back until she disappeared through the door. Only then did she withdraw her intense stare, her fingers lingering on the skin Tang Jinzhi had kissed.
In the kitchen, Zhang Yueqi looked up at Tang Jinzhi, who had returned. Noticing the faint flush on her cheeks, she asked, “Are you hot?”
Tang Jinzhi’s eyes darted away, avoiding Zhang Yueqi’s gaze as she focused on the pot. She fanned herself with her hand and nodded earnestly, “Mhm, very hot.”
Zhang Yueqi, still processing the situation, nodded slowly. “Tomorrow big rainstorm, not hot.”
As if on cue, a thunderous rumble echoed outside.
Zhang Yueqi glanced out the window. “Oh, you right, yeah.”
Tang Jinzhi shook off her embarrassment, pulled out her phone, and checked the weather forecast. Sure enough, tomorrow was predicted to be a day-long thunderstorm.
“I’ll go close the windows. You keep working on this. I’ll cook the noodles when I get back.”
Zhang Yueqi nodded obediently. “Okay.”
Tang Jinzhi gathered the dry clothes and took them back to her room. Xie Xiangyi wasn’t there, but the bathroom light was on, indicating she was inside.
A sudden knock startled Xie Xiangyi. She turned off the shower and looked toward the door. “What is it?”
Tang Jinzhi asked, “How much longer will you be?”
Xie Xiangyi thought for a moment. “About half an hour, I’d say.”
Tang Jinzhi sighed softly. “Try to hurry, okay?”
Good thing I didn’t let Zhang Yueqi make the noodles yet. They’d be a soggy mess by the time Xie Xiangyi gets out.
Xie Xiangyi replied, “Okay.”
Just as Tang Jinzhi was about to leave, she paused, knocked again, and asked, “Oh, what time do you work tomorrow?”
Xie Xiangyi considered. “I moved my day off to tomorrow, so I don’t work.”
Tang Jinzhi raised an eyebrow. Xie Xiangyi’s luck was remarkable—she’d managed to avoid the heavy rain. Tang Jinzhi, who walked to the hospital every day, would have been soaked to the bone if she’d had to go out in such a downpour.
“What’s up?” Xie Xiangyi asked.
Tang Jinzhi’s voice carried a hint of amusement. “It’s nothing. Hurry up and wash.”
Xie Xiangyi quickly finished getting ready. By the time she had blow-dried her hair until it was half-dry, Tang Jinzhi and Zhang Yueqi were still in the kitchen.
They’re still not done?
Zhang Yueqi, noticing her exit, urgently called out to Tang Jinzhi, “She’s out! She’s out! Your wife’s here! Hurry and cook the noodles!”
A smile crept into Xie Xiangyi’s eyes. So they were waiting for me.
Tang Jinzhi glanced back at Xie Xiangyi before handing the cooking duties back to Zhang Yueqi. “You take over. It’s just a few minutes. No need to rush.”
Zhang Yueqi’s lips twitched. She was starting to get annoyed with Tang Jinzhi.
Their planned soup noodles had been abruptly changed to zhajiangmian (noodles with fried soybean paste). Tang Jinzhi had taught her how to make the zhajiang paste and then insisted on testing her knife skills by having her julienne cucumbers on the side—a task that could have been easily done with a vegetable peeler!
She’s just waiting for Xie Xiangyi to say she’s had enough! As if I couldn’t wait!
Xie Xiangyi was about to peek into the kitchen when Tang Jinzhi, who had just emerged, pushed her back.
Tang Jinzhi glanced at Xie Xiangyi’s hair. “Go finish drying it. No rush.”
Xie Xiangyi shook her head, her gaze involuntarily drifting to Tang Jinzhi’s lips. Her eyes flickered slightly, and a ripple of emotion stirred within her.
Noticing Xie Xiangyi’s gaze, Tang Jinzhi licked her lips and glared at her.
Is she really being this obvious with her little crush?
She’s getting bolder every day.
Xie Xiangyi quickly snapped out of her daze, avoiding Tang Jinzhi’s eyes. I didn’t mean to stare.
Zhang Yueqi strode over, her face expressionless. She dramatically glanced between the two women, exclaiming, “What’s going on here? Lovey-dovey? Exchanging glances? Playing hard to get?”
Tang Jinzhi: “……”
Xie Xiangyi: “……”
The intimate atmosphere instantly dissipated.
Zhang Yueqi had only gotten one thing right: she was being deliberately ridiculous. Seriously? These two are being so rude, completely ignoring me!
Xie Xiangyi turned to her. “Has your brain been diluted with water?”
Did I really describe it like that?
Tang Jinzhi turned away to hide her smile. Xie Xiangyi’s comebacks were getting sharper, but it was obvious Zhang Yueqi was just stirring up trouble.
Zhang Yueqi gritted her teeth so hard she thought they might crack. She wanted to add two extra spoonfuls of salt to Xie Xiangyi’s noodles!
Her wicked plan failed. Xie Xiangyi mixed both her own and Tang Jinzhi’s noodles herself.
Zhang Yueqi saw two words in Xie Xiangyi’s actions: attentive and eager.
She shoved her bowl toward Xie Xiangyi. “Mix mine too.”
Xie Xiangyi didn’t even glance at her, pushing the bowl away with the back of her hand.
Zhang Yueqi, who had anticipated this outcome, let out a dry “Heh.”
Xie Xiangyi ignored her, only stopping when she saw the satisfied expression on Tang Jinzhi’s face. She picked up both bowls and walked out.
As soon as Xie Xiangyi left, only the two remained in the kitchen.
Zhang Yueqi met the gaze of the smiling Tang Jinzhi. She froze, sensing what Tang Jinzhi was about to say. She averted her eyes, about to declare she didn’t want to talk to Tang Jinzhi, but Tang Jinzhi spoke first.
“Isn’t Xie Xiangyi just so… adorable?” Tang Jinzhi asked with a grin.
Zhang Yueqi rolled her eyes, wanting nothing to do with this conversation. But she had to admit, Tang Jinzhi might not be wrong.
She was starting to believe it herself.
Xie Xiangyi really was… well… hard to describe.
As Tang Jinzhi sat down, Xie Xiangyi reached over and took the phone she was still looking at.
Tang Jinzhi looked up, confused. “Huh?”
Xie Xiangyi pointed firmly at the noodles on the table. “Eat quickly. I’m tired.”
Tang Jinzhi picked up her chopsticks, already suspecting the reason, but she deliberately asked, “What does taking my phone have to do with it?”
“You eat slower when you’re on your phone,” Xie Xiangyi replied.
Tang Jinzhi rested her cheek on her hand and smiled. “That’s me, not you. I’m not tired.”
She had only just woken up, and her friends in the group chat were already online. She was still chatting with them.
At that moment, Zhang Yueqi arrived. Xie Xiangyi wanted to say something but couldn’t bring herself to. She shot Tang Jinzhi a sullen glance and said dryly, “Eat quickly.”
Tang Jinzhi chuckled inwardly at Xie Xiangyi’s behavior but didn’t ask for her phone back. She finished her noodles.
Before they could clean up, Zhang Yueqi, having finished her own meal, promptly shooed the two lovebirds back to their room. Even she, a fan of their romance, couldn’t stand their constant staring at each other.
It’s only been two days since they last saw each other!
Back in the bedroom, an awkward silence descended.
Tang Jinzhi’s face flushed crimson as she recalled what she had done to Xie Xiangyi earlier. She casually told Xie Xiangyi to go to sleep and hurried into the bathroom with her pajamas.
Xie Xiangyi tossed and turned in bed, her gaze fixed on the bathroom door. She was exhausted but couldn’t fall asleep, determined to wait for Tang Jinzhi to come out.
She didn’t have to wait long. Tang Jinzhi emerged from the shower, her eyes immediately meeting Xie Xiangyi’s unwavering stare.
Tang Jinzhi stiffened slightly, instinctively tugging her collar higher.
She walked to the bedside and asked Xie Xiangyi, “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
Xie Xiangyi turned to face the ceiling, a hint of embarrassment in her voice. “…Waiting for you.”
Tang Jinzhi bent down to lift the covers and get into bed, but paused mid-motion. She straightened up again, feigning nonchalance. “Oh? I was actually planning to go to the study. I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight anyway.”
Xie Xiangyi immediately turned to look at her, blinked, and after a moment’s hesitation, said, “I can’t sleep either.”
Tang Jinzhi’s heart softened instantly at Xie Xiangyi’s pitiful little gaze.
She smiled and asked, “Then what should we do?”
Xie Xiangyi lowered her eyes, struggling inwardly before finally blurting out, “Sleep with me.”
She knew this was exactly what Tang Jinzhi wanted to hear.
Sure enough, the moment the words left her lips, Tang Jinzhi was already lying beside her, making no attempt to hide her deliberate actions.
After settling in, Tang Jinzhi nudged Xie Xiangyi. “I have something I need to tell you.”
Knowing what Tang Jinzhi was about to say, Xie Xiangyi suppressed the amusement in her eyes and feigned ignorance, asking softly, “What is it?”
Tang Jinzhi’s face twisted with concern. “I’m afraid it’ll keep you awake.”
Xie Xiangyi chuckled softly. She had been a little upset earlier, but Tang Jinzhi’s sudden embrace had swept away her anger. Now, the only thing keeping her awake was the Tang Jinzhi before her.
“It’s fine,” she said, her voice heavy with fatigue. “Just tell me. I’m so tired, I’ll probably fall asleep right away.”
Tang Jinzhi hesitated no longer and told Xie Xiangyi about Sheng Yanzhi’s unexpected visit. Xie Xiangyi deliberately furrowed her brow, secretly amused.
This Tang Jinzhi is something else, she thought. The real issue is Sheng Yanzhi coming to the house, yet she’s focusing on how she listened to me by keeping Sheng Yanzhi locked out, not letting her stay a second longer.
Xie Xiangyi sighed softly, masking her amusement and exasperation with a serious expression. She nodded firmly. “You did the right thing. Next time someone knocks, check the monitor first.”
Tang Jinzhi asked, “So, I really did listen to you? I shouldn’t play with her?”
Xie Xiangyi’s lips twitched into a smile. “That’s right.”
Tang Jinzhi poked Xie Xiangyi’s arm forcefully. “Then you’ll trust me from now on!”
Remembering her misunderstanding from that night, Xie Xiangyi nodded. “Yes, I was wrong that day.”
Satisfied, Tang Jinzhi began to feign pitifulness. “You don’t know, I couldn’t sleep at all when you were on night shift and not home. Sigh… I only managed to fall asleep after you came back.”
Xie Xiangyi smiled. “My fault.”
Tang Jinzhi was speechless. “What’s your fault? Blame Sheng Yanzhi!”
Still not quite understanding Tang Jinzhi’s intentions, Xie Xiangyi nodded blankly. “Mm, blame her.”
Tang Jinzhi propped herself up on one elbow. “Then can you cause some trouble for her? Make her disappear?”
She lacked the means to retaliate directly, but she couldn’t swallow her anger. Sheng Yanzhi needed to suffer a little.
Xie Xiangyi slowly turned to look at Tang Jinzhi, her expression thoughtful.
Tang Jinzhi couldn’t decipher the meaning behind that gaze.
She blinked innocently. “Is it that difficult?”
Xie Xiangyi opened her mouth, then sighed deeply. “So, you were feigning pitifulness to manipulate me into helping you get revenge on Sheng Yanzhi?”
Tang Jinzhi hadn’t expected to be called out so directly. She froze for a moment before lying back down, resting her head against the pillow.
Something felt off. Logically, it should have been perfectly normal for her to casually ask Xie Xiangyi to help her bully Sheng Yanzhi in return—after all, she was Xie Xiangyi’s wife.
But Xie Xiangyi had seen through her.
Was I being too obvious?
Xie Xiangyi pursed her lips. If she hadn’t known beforehand that Tang Jinzhi had her own reasons for preventing Zhang Yueqi from telling her about this, she wouldn’t have noticed anything amiss.
Tang Jinzhi rolled onto her back and admitted bluntly, “Yes, I just can’t stand Sheng Yanzhi and wanted to get back at her. But I can’t do it myself—only you can.”
Xie Xiangyi remained silent for a long time. Just when Tang Jinzhi thought she was angry and didn’t want to talk to her, she finally spoke.
“You can do it. You can do it right now. Just tell me what you want directly—there’s no need to scheme and use me. You need to re-evaluate your position.”
Though Xie Xiangyi didn’t explicitly state her meaning, Tang Jinzhi understood perfectly.
Xie Xiangyi wasn’t blaming her, but rather pointing out that she had done something foolish. She had gone to great lengths to manipulate Xie Xiangyi for something she already possessed—a power she could have obtained effortlessly.
Tang Jinzhi muttered softly, “I wasn’t scheming…”
She genuinely believed she had been quite direct.
Xie Xiangyi was visibly displeased. When would Tang Jinzhi finally realize that her affairs were no longer her own private matter?
“Did you really think avenging Sheng Yanzhi was something you could do alone? Stop being so self-centered.”
Xie Xiangyi’s displeasure was palpable. Tang Jinzhi leaned closer to her, offering a silent apology that also served as an admission of Xie Xiangyi’s point.
She had indeed been thinking only of herself.
Sensing Tang Jinzhi’s guilt, Xie Xiangyi closed her eyes and reached out to embrace her, explaining softly, “What I mean is, you’re not alone anymore.”
Xie Xiangyi couldn’t bring herself to say anything more sentimental, but Tang Jinzhi understood.
Tang Jinzhi stared blankly at the ceiling. Xie Xiangyi didn’t disturb her; she had already conveyed her message, hoping Tang Jinzhi would reflect on it.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Xie Xiangyi fell asleep. Tang Jinzhi blinked her tired eyes and buried her face in Xie Xiangyi’s arms.
She couldn’t accept this situation as openly as Xie Xiangyi did. She could only secretly savor the warmth of this fleeting marriage.
Damn these wealthy families, she thought. They made my life miserable in my previous life, and now they’re planting so many landmines in this one.
Tang Jinzhi categorized the world she had lived in for her first twenty-four years as her “previous life.” After all, it felt like a distant realm, almost like a past life.
A thunderous clap startled the person in Xie Xiangyi’s arms, causing her to flinch. Xie Xiangyi slowly woke up, her hand instinctively patting Tang Jinzhi’s back. Outside, the wind howled and raindrops pounded against the window with unusual force. Xie Xiangyi quickly opened her eyes.
Sensing her stillness, Tang Jinzhi slowly lifted her eyelids, blinked twice, and gave up. She wasn’t fully awake yet, still shaken by the sudden noise.
Yesterday, she had worried she wouldn’t be able to sleep, but lying in Xie Xiangyi’s arms, she had drifted off without realizing it.
Xie Xiangyi pulled Tang Jinzhi closer, her voice slightly husky from sleep, “Scared of thunder?”
Tang Jinzhi shook her head. She wasn’t afraid of thunder itself, but the sudden, deafening clap had startled her, like someone shouting unexpectedly in the street.
“Hmm…” Xie Xiangyi patted her back again. Then, remembering something, she opened her eyes and sat up.
Tang Jinzhi tugged at her pajamas, her voice puzzled, “What’s wrong?”
Xie Xiangyi’s expression showed a hint of annoyance. “I should check on Zhang Yueqi. She used to be afraid of thunder.”
Tang Jinzhi thought for a moment. Really? She didn’t recall Zhang Yueqi being afraid. Yesterday in the kitchen, even when a muffled thunderclap sounded, Zhang Yueqi had remained remarkably calm.
“Go ahead, but I don’t think she’s scared anymore.”
Xie Xiangyi hummed softly and glanced at her phone as she got out of bed. It was 10 a.m.—they’d slept in late.
She turned to look at Tang Jinzhi, who was already awake and watching her. “Did you sneak into the study last night?”
Tang Jinzhi rolled her eyes. “No, I stayed with you the whole time.”
Satisfied, Xie Xiangyi grabbed a jacket and headed next door.
She knocked on the door and waited a while before Zhang Yueqi finally emerged, her eyes still heavy with sleep as she stared at Xie Xiangyi standing at her doorstep.
“What do you want…?”
Zhang Yueqi had only fallen asleep at 4 a.m., and it felt like she hadn’t slept at all.
Xie Xiangyi sized her up. “Sleeping well, huh?”
Zhang Yueqi bristled. “I’d be sleeping even better if you hadn’t disturbed me!”
Xie Xiangyi felt completely relieved.
“I thought you were still afraid of thunder.”
Zhang Yueqi froze, then gave Xie Xiangyi a peculiar look. “Don’t you know I used to fake it because I watched too many dramas?”
Xie Xiangyi: “……”
She really sold that act.
Zhang Yueqi chuckled. “That’s how it always goes in romance dramas, right? Some of my classmates used to do the same thing when we were kids.”
Xie Xiangyi said expressionlessly, “…You’ve watched too many idol dramas. They’re rotting your brain. Stop watching them.”
Zhang Yueqi clicked her tongue softly, blinked, and suggested, “You could learn from idol dramas too. Have your wife coax you to sleep.”
Without another word, Xie Xiangyi shoved Zhang Yueqi into her room, slammed the door shut, and decided to ignore her.
What a waste of time and energy.
When she returned to the bedroom, Tang Jinzhi was already sitting up in bed, leaning against the headboard and playing on her phone.
“How did it go? Was Assistant Zhang not scared at all?” Tang Jinzhi asked, amused, studying Xie Xiangyi’s exasperated expression. She could tell the outcome just from her face.
Xie Xiangyi took off her coat, hung it up neatly, and then recounted Zhang Yueqi’s childhood pranks with a huff.
Tang Jinzhi burst into laughter.
So only Xie Xiangyi was naive enough to fall for it. Kids are so easy to fool.
“Actually, I used to be afraid of thunder too. I could pretend to be scared now if you want.”
Xie Xiangyi turned to look at her. “What are you implying? Do you want me to hold you and coax you to sleep?”
Then she added, “Even when you’re not afraid of thunder, I still hold you, don’t I?”
She no longer felt embarrassed saying such things. After all, after so many hugs, it had become second nature.
Tang Jinzhi pinched her lips between two fingers, manually muting herself.
Xie Xiangyi was becoming increasingly difficult to tease.
After washing up and changing into loungewear, the two left their room. On the balcony, Zhang Yueqi, who had been woken up by Xie Xiangyi’s noise, had gotten out of bed and was already up.
Tang Jinzhi called out to her, curious about what she was craning her neck to see. She led Xie Xiangyi over.
“What are you looking at?”
Zhang Yueqi, clinging to the rain-battered window, pointed outside, her voice filled with wonder. “Someone’s flying!”
Tang Jinzhi thought Zhang Yueqi was having a bout of middle-school syndrome, but she followed her gaze anyway.
The heavy rain blurred the view, making it difficult to see. After straining her eyes, Tang Jinzhi finally spotted a dark, human-shaped silhouette in the sky. Her eyes widened instantly. “Why! Why can’t I do that too?!”
Tang Jinzhi immediately suspected she had misunderstood the world’s setting in this novel. Was it a spiritual energy revival or superpowers? She wanted them too! Why was she being left out?!
Zhang Yueqi joined in, howling, “I want it too! I want it too!”
Xie Xiangyi remained silent for several seconds before finally speaking up. “That just looks like a large black trash bag.”
The two figures clinging to the window turned to look at her simultaneously.
Xie Xiangyi averted her gaze, forcing herself to say, “It’s a person…”
After straining her eyes for a long moment in the torrential rain, Tang Jinzhi gave up. It was indeed just an ordinary black trash bag.
Casually changing the subject, she pointed to the chaotic scene below. “Look at those electric scooters blown over by the wind. You’re so lucky you don’t have to go to work today.”
Xie Xiangyi, tactfully avoiding exposing her embarrassment, nodded and picked up the thread. “You’re right, I am lucky.”
Little did they know, Xie Xiangyi’s luck today would extend far beyond this.
