Chapter 2: Tsk, Tsk, Captain, You’re Quite Popular with the Ladies… A Accomplice?…
“Is that all? Is it that simple?”
Although he didn’t understand why going to the team leader’s house would get him into the Execution Department, Ling Zhuo still nodded decisively. “Okay, I understand.”
His quick reply delighted the team leader, who was drinking tea, so much that he choked, his face turning beet red. He thought, How brazen! He actually thinks serving someone is a simple task. If only he hadn’t refused earlier, he wouldn’t have had to lust after him for a whole year! Unlike Alphas, Omegas’ excess pheromones during their estrus period would cause them to develop some bestial features, making them even more fun. He couldn’t wait to find out what Ling Zhuo would turn into—rabbit ears or a cat’s tail…
“Cough, cough, cough…” The more vulgar the team leader’s thoughts became, the more he coughed. After he caught his breath, he left his address and time, then triumphantly put the application form in his pocket and left.
Ling Zhuo took the address back to his office and sat in a corner, waiting for the time to come. Meanwhile, he used the chat app’s built-in emojis to send messages to the only other person in his family with a phone, his third brother.
Fox: [School] [Forbidden] [House] [Moon] [Collar] (I can’t pick up fourth brother and fourth sister from school today. Tell them to go home early, don’t wait until it gets dark. Remember to wear your collars to hide your pheromones, don’t let anyone discover you’re Omegas.)
Fox: [Lock] [Sleep] (Lock the door when you get home. Don’t go out if you hear any noise. Brother has to take care of something.)
Snake: [Detergent] [Brush]? (Is it a cleaning job? We can help.)
Fox: [Waving] (No.)
The two little animals, who couldn’t read or write much, communicated in what looked like an encrypted code.
As night fell, the temperature dropped a few more degrees. Ling Zhuo went to the locker room, changed his clothes, and left under the cover of darkness.
In a vacant room on the top floor of a building in the Wisteria residential area, located in the wealthy street of E district, several tall, handsome figures slipped in like phantoms. One person expertly set up a sniper rifle by the window, another stood guard at the door with a gun, and a third leaned against a pillar, opening a laptop to work.
The light from the screen provided a weak source of illumination in the dark room, barely revealing the men’s appearances. Each of them wore a black leather and metal muzzle, shaped very much like a gas mask, but with much smaller filters on the sides to fit their faces better. They were dressed in uniform black shirts and tactical pants, with black leather gun holsters worn over their shirts. Some also had holsters strapped to their thighs, their wide shoulders and narrow waists clearly outlined, and their thigh muscles full and firm. Every movement they made exuded a powerful, vibrant energy, like swift, fierce beasts just released from a cage, preparing for a hunt.
The man by the pillar tapped his fingers on the keyboard and pulled up a file. “Captain, the mutated creature has been confirmed to be B-class. It has normal human intelligence and thought processes, and can communicate without any issues. When it mutates at night, it will have a strong desire to attack and feed, which may pose a threat to the people around it. Also…”
He paused, then continued, “The target’s wife has been missing for a week.”
The man by the window with the sniper rifle aimed at the brightly lit room across the way, adjusting his scope. “Captain, the B-class mutated target is locked.”
“Captain, there’s no unusual movement at the door either. Since it’s confirmed, should we move in now?”
After reporting, the three men all looked toward a dark corner of the room. Another person was there, who had arrived at some point, and was observing the villa across the street from another window. He was taller than the others in the room, and the muscle lines outlined by the shadows were as graceful as a stretching leopard. Unlike the others’ open shirt collars, his shirt was buttoned all the way up. Instead of a gun holster, he wore a knife sheath that ran diagonally across his chest and was cinched around his waist. Over his shirt, he wore a matching short leather jacket.
He was impeccably dressed, yet his hand rested casually on the hilt of the broadsword hanging at his waist. When he heard the question, he raised his other hand and glanced at the time displayed on the back of the mechanical chameleon wrapped around his pale wrist, then said in a deep voice, “Wait another half an hour.”
The well-trained Alphas all replied, “Copy that,” and went back to their duties.
A few minutes later, the man with the sniper rifle couldn’t stay still. As he loaded the gun with the mercury bullets specifically used for killing mutated creatures, he asked, “Captain, a mutated creature of this level isn’t much for us to handle. Why do we have to wait half an hour? Is there a discount for a 10 PM kill?”
Lu Lu Hadi, the Alpha guarding the door, chimed in, “Guangba, you don’t need to worry about that. Our Captain Mo has his own rhythm!”
“That character is ‘玐’, pronounced ‘Ba’, meaning jade. You uneducated fool!”
“You two are hopeless…” The man looking at the target’s file, Miller, was exasperated with his teammates. “Didn’t you read the file before we left? The target’s child is a normal human. If we move in now, he’ll have nightmares seeing his father turn into a bloated, man-eating monster. Another half an hour and it’ll be 10 PM. The nanny will take the child back to his room to sleep, and by then…”
“Holy sh1t!” Guangba, who was looking through the scope, suddenly lowered his voice and gasped, interrupting Miller.
The other two, their curiosity piqued, asked, “What is it? Did he start mutating?”
“No, a guest came to his house, and they look… very stimulating!”
“…”
Mota had noticed the guest at the target’s house earlier. Before entering the target’s house, he had looked around, as if checking for anyone following him, which was a cautious move, but he had a prominent, easy-to-spot head of red hair.
An accomplice?
The Alpha by the window tapped his fingertip on the hilt of his broadsword. After a brief thought, he gave the order, “Miller, pull up the live security feed of the target’s living room. Guangba, lock onto the back of the target’s neck. You are authorized to shoot if necessary, but prioritize the safety of the normal human.”
Guangba: “Copy that!”
Miller: “Copy that, accessing now…”
The sound of the keyboard tapping was fast and furious, and the atmosphere became tense. However, as soon as the image was projected onto the wall, the Alphas of the Execution Department all fell silent.
“Captain, this doesn’t seem to be going as we expected…”
In the image, the target was frantically taking off his clothes, and the red-haired guest across from him was also slowly taking off his cardigan. A pair of fluffy beast ears popped up on top of his head, and a fluffy tail squeezed out from the edge of his pants, looking very eye-catching.
With every step the person in the image took toward the target, the Alphas outside the image felt a pang of regret. Just as they were about to ask the captain if they should move in, a scream suddenly echoed from the screen.
The Omega, who was already showing signs of being in heat, suddenly raised a hand, grabbed the target’s head, and slammed it down onto the coffee table. Glass shattered everywhere, but he didn’t stop, grabbing the target’s head and slamming it onto the broken glass a few more times. Bl00d immediately gushed out, staining the clear glass. This sudden change of events frightened the child playing nearby, who started crying loudly.
One of the beast ears on Ling Zhuo’s head twitched toward the sound, annoyed. He then took out his frustration on the team leader, continuing to press the bloody head onto the broken glass. The mangled man cried out in pain, gasping for breath as his body suddenly arched abnormally, his muscles trembling and bulging.
This was a sign of mutation. Ling Zhuo’s hand moved down, and his claws quickly tore through the other person’s suddenly hot gland. “Ahh—!”
The intense pain caused the team leader to scream. The mutation stopped, and he gritted his teeth, struggling to utter a sound: “You… you f*cking… worthless creature…” His eyes, filled with broken glass, turned to Ling Zhuo, glaring fiercely.
Ling Zhuo was still furious. He remembered what the team leader had just said: “What’s so great about Mota? You’re so eager to go to him. You’re better off with me, I’ll provide you with good food and drink.” This made him even angrier. He reached out and gouged out the team leader’s eyeball, “pop,” and crushed it.
Another scream. Ling Zhuo felt a little better. His voice icy, he grabbed the team leader’s head. “How dare you compare yourself to Mota? He’s handsome and I’d be willing to be his partner. What are you even?”
The Execution Department team outside the screen: “…”
Guangba: “Tsk, tsk, Captain, you’re quite popular with the ladies…”
Before he could finish, he got a kick in the butt. Mota retracted his leg and vaulted onto the window, saying coldly, “Stop chattering and move out!”
With that command, the men immediately moved, slipping out of the room as silently as they had entered and heading toward the target’s house.
The screen went blank. Ling Zhuo was unaware that his every move had been discovered. On the second floor of the E district Social Security Department team leader’s villa, he was still ferociously beating the man. Bl00d splattered everywhere. The child’s crying nearby annoyed him, and the screaming servants downstairs were also very annoying. What was even more frustrating was that he had just found out the team leader had tricked him into coming here to sleep with him. He had no power to get him into the Execution Department!
His hope was crushed, and Ling Zhuo was furious. His punches became heavier with each blow. Beasts unconsciously get excited when they smell bl00d, and a frenzied smile appeared on his face. By the time he came to his senses, his clean white shirt was soaked through with bl00d, clinging to his chest. The fiery red tail behind him was also stained with a lot of bl00d, and several clumps of fur were matted together, dripping bl00d as he happily wagged it.
The team leader’s body had been reduced to a pile of mangled flesh, and his head had been twisted off and was held in Ling Zhuo’s hand. He grinned, a fierce and excited expression on his face, his sharp canines gleaming. He was panting heavily, and then he let out a light “ha-ha” laugh.
The light laugh’s echo just died down when the sound of a gun being cocked rang out. Standing in the pool of bl00d, Ling Zhuo then realized that the surroundings had become quiet. The child’s crying and the woman’s screaming had stopped. There were only a few distinctly lightened breaths.
He quickly turned around, baring his sharp teeth, and let out a fierce hiss of warning at the intruders. “Get ou…”
His unfinished words were cut off by a knife sheath pressed against his throat.
