Chapter 7: In the Exact Same Position as the Dream. Why, Second Brother?…
As Ling Zhuo followed his fourth brother home, carrying a plastic bucket of cleaning supplies, the surroundings began to feel more and more familiar. It was only when his brother stopped at the front door of a small villa that he realized this was the team leader’s house.
The team leader is already dead, so who is Aunt Wu’s friend? Was it the child from the living room that day?
“Second Brother, why aren’t you going in?” his third brother and fourth sister, who had come along to help, stood by his legs, blinking their big eyes and looking around curiously.
Ling Zhuo hesitated for a moment, then pushed the door open. “…It’s really dirty inside. You need to be mentally prepared.”
He had taken on cleaning jobs for homicide scenes before and would never bring his younger siblings, worried that it would scare them. This time was a mistake; Aunt Wu had only said it was a little dirty, and he had assumed it was a regular cleaning job. The moment the front door opened, a strong smell of bl00d rushed out. Thanks to the low temperature, the bl00d hadn’t started to decompose yet, otherwise the smell would have been even worse.
The red-haired older brother knelt at the door, carefully putting shoe covers and gloves on his younger siblings and handing out masks and hats. The three little ones lined up, behaving perfectly. Ling Zhuo also put on his gear before following them inside.
Cleaning usually starts from the top floor. By cleaning from the top down, he wouldn’t dirty the areas he had already cleaned, and they could leave directly after finishing. The second floor was where he had killed the team leader. The carpet was so stained with bl00d that its original pattern was unrecognizable. After drying, it had formed deep brown scabs. This couldn’t be washed off; it had to be thrown away.
He bent down to roll up the carpet. The fourth sister, who was naturally curious, had forgotten why she was there as soon as she entered. She stuck out her little bottom, rummaging through things in the room, her golden lion’s tail wagging happily behind her.
“Wow, Second Brother, can I eat this?” she asked, after she had pulled out an open piece of chocolate from who-knows-where, sniffing it on the floor.
Ling Zhuo, who had just finished rolling up the carpet, threw it out the window into the courtyard below. Without even looking back, he stopped the little glutton. “No, lions will die if they eat it.”
“Oh…” she pouted, but her attention was quickly drawn to something else.
The fourth brother was picking up things scattered on the floor, and the third brother was holding a bucket to get water. The little ones, aside from the bad smell, were surprisingly well-adapted to the homicide scene. They spent about two and a half hours cleaning up the second floor. Just as they were about to go downstairs, Ling Zhuo suddenly stopped them. “Shh, someone’s here!”
As soon as he spoke, his siblings also noticed. They all smelled a very strong perfume coming from a room downstairs. With a wave of their brother’s hand, the siblings quickly hid in the corners of the room. Ling Zhuo himself flattened against the wall at the top of the stairs, keeping a wary eye on the movement below. The person must have been there for a while. If it weren’t for the perfume, they might not have noticed them. To be able to be so inconspicuous in front of a group of beasts, this person must be very skilled. Ling Zhuo didn’t dare to be careless.
Just as he was concentrating, his pant leg was pulled. He looked down and saw his sister, who had somehow come over. Her cat-like eyes shone in the darkness, and she looked like she had something to say. Ling Zhuo squatted down and leaned his ear toward her.
“Second Brother, could it be someone trying to steal our business? Let’s go down and beat him up!” she said, brandishing her small fists and about to go downstairs. Ling Zhuo grabbed her by the collar and pulled her back. He turned around and tossed his sister to his third brother, who was by the sofa. Before he could get up, he felt a sudden pressure from behind. He immediately rolled forward on the ground, leaving the spot where he had been squatting.
In the next second, a vase slammed into the exact spot he had just left. It was a spot he had just finished cleaning, and now it was dirty again. Ling Zhuo frowned. Just as I thought, he’s here to steal my business! He angrily shouted downstairs, “I’ve taken this job. Aunt Wu sent me. Don’t even think about stealing my business. Get out, or I’ll beat you up!”
Downstairs in the darkness, the tall figure hidden in the shadows of the staircase clearly paused when he heard the voice. But in an instant, he shot out like a nimble cheetah, grabbed the railing, and vaulted up the stairs. His speed was astonishingly fast. Ling Zhuo had just finished speaking when the person was right in front of him. The strong perfume made Ling Zhuo turn his head to sneeze, and he was a second too slow to block the person’s hand blade. He was sent flying.
“Second Brother!” his siblings cried out in alarm, forgetting to hide.
But soon Ling Zhuo gained the upper hand. The dark environment was more to his advantage. After he got used to the perfume and stopped sneezing, he moved even faster. The person was bigger than him, but he wasn’t as ruthless. After a few moves, Ling Zhuo pinned him to the ground.
Ling Zhuo’s fist, cutting through the air, came down hard. The other person slightly turned his head to avoid it. The fist grazed past his ear and slammed into the floor. The person felt the tiles beneath him crack and let out a low laugh. “Doesn’t that hurt your hand?”
His voice was very soft, but the person sitting on top of him, grabbing his collar with one hand and raising a fist with the other, froze completely.
That voice… Ling Zhuo blinked blankly, looking down at the person on the ground. The person was also wearing a mask and a hat. The brim of his baseball cap was pulled very low, and his entire face was almost completely obscured. Ling Zhuo wasn’t sure. He took off his own mask and hat, bent down, and leaned his head close to the person’s neck, taking a gentle sniff. This position was very close to the gland. Unless the person intentionally hid their pheromones like he did, he would always be able to smell a little.
The scent that reached his nose was a faint, dry, burning wood smell, hidden beneath the strong perfume. But he couldn’t be wrong. It was Mota!
The stunned fox: “…” Oh no, oh no, oh no!!! What do I do, what do I do, what do I do!!! I beat up Mota! Is he going to be even more unwilling to take me home now?! It’s all the mask’s fault for covering my nose! The fox, with his slender waist bent and his head buried in Mota’s shoulder, dared not move, filled with regret.
Without the mask to hide his breathing, his shallow breaths fell on Mota’s earlobe, very light, but with a strong presence. Mota suddenly realized how ambiguous their current position was. He tried to get up, but Ling Zhuo was still frozen.
Seeing that the two fighting people had stopped moving, the fourth brother and fourth sister got anxious. Each of them held a cleaning tool and charged forward, shouting, “Charge!”
Fourth sister: “Hmph, I’ll teach you for trying to steal our territory, Second Brother, hurry up and give him a lesson!”
Fourth brother: “I… I’ll tell you, our Second Brother is under the protection of Team Leader Mota of the Execution Department! Don’t you dare bully us!”
Ling Zhuo: “…” “…Don’t say that.”
He came to his senses and tried to stop them with a voice as small as a mosquito’s, his face already red with shame.
“Why not, Second Brother?” his sister asked innocently. “Anyway, that team leader isn’t here.”
“…”
The second brother, whose head was buzzing with pain, stiffly straightened his body, wanting to get up and take his siblings away. But the person he was pinning down seemed very interested in that question. He turned his face and said, mimicking the sister’s tone, “Why not, Second Brother?” The end of his voice had a slight, teasing lilt.
“!!!” The already embarrassed person turned completely red from being called “Second Brother.” He froze again, his hands unconsciously propped on the other’s chest.
Mota’s question was indeed meant to tease him a little, but his tone was no different from his usual one. He had just lowered his voice, and his naturally deep, alluring voice sounded like he was flirting. On top of that, he had laughed. After he said it, he was also stunned. The name “Second Brother” had suddenly become very inappropriate. His excellent memory couldn’t help but recall the details of his morning’s dream. The object of his dream’s fantasy was currently sitting on top of him.
“…”
Another moment of silence. The two little ones standing by looked at their brother with wide, round eyes.
Their brother tried to explain with difficulty, “Because… he is Mota.”
“Ah!” The two children’s fur stood on end. Even the fourth brother’s well-hidden little goat horns popped out, pushing off his baseball cap. “Oh no! Run, run!” He grabbed his sister and tried to find a place to hide. Their brother had told them that Mota kills monsters! He didn’t know if they counted as monsters in the eyes of humans.
Before they could run away, the third brother came out of the bathroom, stumbling with a bucket of water. “Get out of the way!” he shouted. “Look at my special super slippery water!” He claimed that no matter how strong a person was, they wouldn’t be able to stand up after getting hit with this water. They definitely wouldn’t be able to run away!
“Third Brother, no! Stop!” The two children, who were about to hide, quickly changed direction to stop their brother. One, eager to help and not knowing what was going on, and the other, trying to stop him, but failing. The whole bucket of water splashed out with a “whoosh.”
“Watch out!” Ling Zhuo quickly hunched over to shield Mota.
A fiery red tail shot out, trying to cover Mota to shield him from the water, but the Omega’s body was a bit too slender compared to the Alpha’s, and it couldn’t block much. He was soaked, and the water was cold. Ling Zhuo shivered, shook his head, and the first thing he did was to check on Mota. Seeing that he was also mostly soaked, he turned back helplessly. “Third Brother, he’s one of us…”
As he spoke, he tried to get up to get Mota a dry towel, but he hadn’t expected the water to be so incredibly slippery. Not only did he fail to get up, but his hand slipped on the floor as he tried to push himself up, and he fell back heavily into Mota’s arms.
“Ah!”
Their chests collided hard. The collision was so sudden that the silver trinket on Ling Zhuo’s chest was pressed against Mota’s, and the slight prickling pain and numbness made him arch his waist, and an unconscious sound escaped his throat.
Mota hadn’t expected him to fall back down. He felt a small piece of metal graze his chest, and then he heard Ling Zhuo’s faint gasp. Unable to tell if it was pain or pleasure, he didn’t even bother to distinguish, because… he had heard that sound in his dream this morning, while he was biting and licking his inner thigh.
“Oh no, Second Brother, why didn’t you dodge!” his third brother said, dropping the bucket by the puddle of water. “I told you it was special slippery water…”
“How much detergent did you put in there? Did you pour the whole thing in?” Ling Zhuo said, panting, and not giving up as he propped himself up again. This time, he was very careful, afraid of slipping on the floor. He had nowhere else to put his hands, so he had to support himself on Mota’s chest again.
From Mota’s perspective, Ling Zhuo’s eyes were red, and his mouth was slightly open as he panted, as if he had been bullied into this state. His posture was exactly the same as in his dream.
This was not good. He felt the part of him he had suppressed this morning starting to stir again, but the fox was completely oblivious.
