My Wife is the Vicious Supporting Character from an Era Novel - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
â—ŽWen Miao, Don’t Touch Meâ—Ž
“Eat, don’t just stare.”
Ji Baiqing reminded Wen Miao, who was not opening her mouth.
Wen Miao took a small bite and instantly her cheeks turned red from the spiciness, and tears were forced out of her eyes. Her eyes shimmered with tears as she swallowed the food with difficulty. “This is too spicy.”
Ji Baiqing looked at her flushed cheeks and touched the tip of her nose. “I did add too much chili oil, but I think it’s okay for me.” Seeing Wen Miao glare at her, she quickly poured her a glass of cold water.
Wen Miao ate half of her stewed noodles, and Ji Baiqing, with her big appetite, finished the other half without hesitation. Wen Miao was already numb to her many unreserved behaviors. After she finished eating, she quickly urged, “Let’s go, let’s go check out the supply and marketing cooperative.”
The first floor of the supply and marketing cooperative sold daily necessities, and the second floor sold ready-made clothes, with fabric also available. After asking a salesperson for the location, Wen Miao pulled Ji Baiqing upstairs.
Looking at the almost all-gray clothes, Wen Miao frowned with dissatisfaction. Ji Baiqing looked at her with a smile, thinking that women were the same in any era; they were all enthusiastic about buying clothes. She was too, but she was poor. Thinking of this, Ji Baiqing suddenly couldn’t smile anymore.
Wen Miao walked around the piles of clothes and finally took down a few pieces, gesturing with them at Ji Baiqing. When she draped a black half-length skirt around her waist, Ji Baiqing realized, “Wen Miao, you’re not buying this for me, are you?” Wen Miao gave her a look that said, “What else?” and continued to look at other things.
Ji Baiqing didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she also felt a little soft-hearted. “It’s okay, you don’t need to buy me clothes. I have enough.” She reached out to stop Wen Miao from choosing more, but the floral shirt she was wearing seemed to have heard her words. With a ripping sound, the fabric under her armpit tore. Ji Baiqing and Wen Miao looked at her armpit at the same time. Looking at the torn fabric, her mouth twitched. “This… these clothes are a little tight.” In one year, she had grown taller.
Wen Miao also imitated Ji Baiqing’s actions and pinched her cheek. “Okay, just be a good girl. It’s just a few pieces of clothing.” Perhaps her voice was too gentle, or perhaps the sudden awkwardness was too much, but Ji Baiqing just stood there. Wen Miao picked out black and white short-sleeved shirts, a half-skirt, a pair of black long pants, and a black and white checked dress. In the end, despite Ji Baiqing’s protests, she also bought her a pair of shiny women’s leather shoes.
Thinking of the straw sandals that He Xiangyue often wore, Wen Miao chose a pair of fashionable crystal sandals for He Xiangyue and a pair of black slippers for Ji Wei. Ji Baiqing remembered her size. Seeing that the beautiful woman was in high spirits, Ji Baiqing sighed and stopped trying to persuade her. But she also felt a secret thrill in her heart. Her internet friends were right; the experience of having a rich best friend was just amazing.
However, the ready-made clothes were expensive. One piece cost more than ten yuan. All of them added up to about fifty yuan. Wen Miao also picked out a few pieces of pure cotton fabric, two meters each of white, black, and red. When she went to pay, it was seventy-two yuan and five cents, and she also needed the corresponding cloth coupons.
Wen Miao gave Ji Baiqing a look. Ji Baiqing took out eight one hundred yuan bills from her worn-out crossbody bag and counted out the cloth coupons for the salesperson. Seeing them buy so much at once, both the salesperson and the other customers gasped. In the midst of the gasps, Ji Baiqing quietly clutched her crossbody bag tightly. She prayed that no pickpockets would target them.
After paying, Ji Baiqing borrowed a storage room from the salesperson to change into the new clothes. The black short-sleeved shirt made her look more distant and cold, and it highlighted her fair skin. When she came out, Wen Miao looked at her and nodded, complimenting her. “It looks very good and suits you very well.” Ji Baiqing was uncharacteristically shy. “That’s because you have good taste.” Wen Miao didn’t argue. She did think her taste was pretty good.
After buying clothes, it was time to buy the items on the list from last night. Ji Baiqing led Wen Miao and started buying the items on the list. She also bought a thermos bottle and a bottle of soy sauce. After they had bought everything, Ji Baiqing was about to pay, but Wen Miao grabbed her wrist. “Wait, let’s go buy one more thing.”
Ji Baiqing was a little confused. “Did we miss something?” Wen Miao motioned for her to follow her. When she walked inside, she saw the “28-inch-frame” bicycle surrounded by people and her mouth twitched. “…You’re not going to buy a bicycle, are you?”
Wen Miao didn’t answer her. Instead, she carefully looked over the black bicycle. This thing was huge and could carry a family of three. She was more satisfied with the fact that the back seat was made of leather, so she didn’t have to worry about it hurting her butt. It was only then that she took the time to answer Ji Baiqing. “Don’t you think taking the ox cart is very inconvenient? And the smell on the cart is very unpleasant.”
Ji Baiqing waved her hand, giving up the struggle. “If you want to buy it, then buy it. You’re beautiful, so you’re right.” Wen Miao glared at her and grumbled, “You’re talking nonsense again.”
In the end, she still bought the bicycle. They had also bought almost everything else. There were too many things, so they decided to leave them at the supply and marketing cooperative for the salesperson to look after. The salesperson at Xining Town was quite friendly.
Pushing the bicycle out of the supply and marketing cooperative, Ji Baiqing frowned, feeling that she had forgotten something. Suddenly, she saw a bicycle with a piece of meat hanging from it ring its bell and rush past her. She slapped her forehead. “The meat! I forgot to buy the meat!”
A moment later, Ji Baiqing and Wen Miao stood facing each other, holding the bicycle.
Ji Baiqing: “If you don’t know how to ride a bicycle, why did you buy it?”
Wen Miao was silent for a while. “…I thought you would know how.”
In her previous life, Ji Baiqing walked everywhere when she was at her poorest. After she saved some money from her part-time jobs, she directly bought an electric scooter. She knew how to ride an electric scooter, but she had never learned how to ride a bicycle!
In the end, she gave in. She pushed the bike to an alley and said helplessly, “I’ll learn first.” Fortunately, riding a bicycle was mainly about balance. After riding it a few times, she felt that she had learned enough. She propped her long legs on the ground and motioned for Wen Miao to get on. Wen Miao easily got on the back seat and held onto the back of the seat.
“Let’s go! Hold on tight!” Ji Baiqing rode the bike wobbly toward the food station. Several times, Wen Miao almost fell off because of her wobbling. Finally, Ji Baiqing was too embarrassed. “Wen Miao, hold on to my waist. It’ll be more stable.”
Wen Miao heard this and hesitated for a while. Finally, she slowly reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist. Ji Baiqing’s skin temperature was transmitted to her through the thin fabric. Wen Miao unconsciously rubbed her waist and thought, “It’s so thin.”
When she touched her, Ji Baiqing couldn’t hold back. The handlebars twisted sharply. She gritted her teeth. “Wen Miao, don’t touch me. It tickles a little.”
“…” Wen Miao’s face instantly turned bright red. She hurriedly let go of the woman’s waist and almost fell off again.
