My Wife is the Vicious Supporting Character from an Era Novel - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Intentional Seduction
After her conversation with Wen Miao, Ji Baiqing begins to search for a suitable woman for her. She considers the most beautiful and kind girls in the nearby villages, but she feels none of them are good enough. Besides, she can’t be sure if any of them like women. She feels a sense of failure. She is still thinking about it before bed when Wen Miao walks out after her shower. Wen Miao can tell what is on her mind and gets annoyed.
Wen Miao tells Ji Baiqing to move so she can get into bed. Ji Baiqing hesitates. Since Wen Miao confessed her feelings, maybe they shouldn’t sleep together. “You sleep on the bed, Wen Miao. I’ll sleep on the floor,” she says. Wen Miao threatens to go back to the city youths’ residence. Ji Baiqing, worried, quickly relents and agrees to sleep with her. Wen Miao, sensing Ji Baiqing’s hesitation, gives her some space on the bed.
Even with the distance, Wen Miao’s scent fills the air. Ji Baiqing can’t sleep. She keeps thinking about their past intimate moments—the kisses, the way Wen Miao’s soft body felt against hers, the way she would react to Ji Baiqing’s touch. She finally realizes that Wen Miao’s reactions weren’t just friendly; they were intimate. Ji Baiqing feels a rush of embarrassment and can’t believe how clueless she was. She can’t understand why Wen Miao would fall for her. She stays up all night, and when she finally gets up, Wen Miao is already awake.
Ji Baiqing takes her bike to town to see a well-known matchmaker, Wang Guihua. Wang Guihua is surprised when Ji Baiqing asks if she knows any women who like women. Wang Guihua says she does and brings out a notebook. The first woman is a saleswoman, but Ji Baiqing thinks she’s too short. The second is a textile factory worker, but Ji Baiqing says she’s too delicate. The third, Shang Min, is a canning factory manager. She is 27 and seems like a good person. Ji Baiqing decides to set up a meeting for Wen Miao with Shang Min. Wang Guihua agrees and says she will call the village when the time is set.
On the way home, Ji Baiqing feels a strange sense of unease. When she gets home, she sees Wen Miao reading in her room and feels a little better. In the afternoon, she tells Wen Miao about the meeting. Wen Miao agrees, and Ji Baiqing is surprised. She tries to talk her out of it, saying that she might not like Shang Min, but Wen Miao simply says, “Isn’t this what you wanted? I’m just doing what you asked.”
Wen Miao’s words feel like a stab to the heart. Ji Baiqing is at a loss. Wen Miao is angry, but she also wants to test Ji Baiqing’s feelings. She thinks that if Ji Baiqing is truly against her dating someone else, she might just have a chance. She decides to try to seduce Ji Baiqing one more time.
“A Qing,” she says, her voice soft, “my shoulders are a little sore. Can you give me a massage?” Ji Baiqing hesitates but agrees. As she enters the room, Wen Miao takes off her clothes, revealing her back and black bra. “You don’t need to take your clothes off,” Ji Baiqing says, but Wen Miao says it’s easier to massage without clothes. Ji Baiqing, convinced, puts her hands on Wen Miao’s shoulders.
Wen Miao’s skin is soft and smooth. Ji Baiqing massages her, and a faint red flush spreads across Wen Miao’s back. Wen Miao moans softly, and Ji Baiqing stops. She asks if she’s in pain, but Wen Miao shakes her head. Ji Baiqing continues to massage her, and Wen Miao gets flustered. She turns over and tells Ji Baiqing to stop. Ji Baiqing sees Wen Miao’s chest and gets a nosebleed. Wen Miao panics and tries to help her, but Ji Baiqing tells her to get some cold water. Ji Baiqing, embarrassed by her reaction, runs out of the room. Wen Miao is disappointed but feels a little hopeful that Ji Baiqing’s reaction means she has feelings for her.
A few days later, Ji Baiqing gets a call from Wang Guihua, who has set up the meeting. Ji Baiqing is nervous. She tells Wen Miao, who begins to pick out an outfit. Ji Baiqing notices that Wen Miao is excited and asks her if she is looking forward to meeting Shang Min. “Isn’t this what you wanted?” Wen Miao replies, “You’re the one who found her. I’m just doing what you said.”
Ji Baiqing feels a sense of guilt. “But you have the right to say no,” she says. “But you don’t want me to say no,” Wen Miao says, her voice low. “You don’t want me to be with anyone else, but you don’t want to be with me, either. What kind of person are you, Ji Baiqing?” Ji Baiqing is speechless. She is forced to admit that she is a selfish person. Wen Miao leaves the room, and Ji Baiqing is left alone to reflect. She has to admit that she is a bad person for wanting to keep Wen Miao all to herself. She doesn’t understand her own feelings.
The next day, Wen Miao wears a beautiful long blue dress. Ji Baiqing is annoyed. “Why are you so dressed up just to meet a stranger?” she thinks. They arrive at Wang Guihua’s house, and Wang Guihua is impressed with Wen Miao’s beauty. They go inside, where Shang Min is already waiting. Ji Baiqing immediately dislikes her, thinking she’s too plain and serious for Wen Miao. But Wen Miao goes straight to Shang Min and shakes her hand.
Ji Baiqing sits next to Wen Miao, glaring at Shang Min. Wang Guihua asks Ji Baiqing to leave so the two can have some alone time, but Ji Baiqing refuses, saying she needs to “watch over” Wen Miao. Shang Min asks Wen Miao if Ji Baiqing is her sister. Wen Miao tells Ji Baiqing to leave, and Ji Baiqing reluctantly goes outside.
When Ji Baiqing is gone, Shang Min smiles and says, “If I’m not mistaken, you like the woman who just left, don’t you?”
