Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
â—ŽI’ll Go Crazy if I Think About It Anymoreâ—Ž
Su Miao couldn’t eat fish, and watching others eat fish made her inexplicably uncomfortable.
Perhaps her expression changed too quickly because Xu Sheng noticed and said indifferently, “Let’s get something else. Su Miao can’t eat fish.”
Zhang Linyu seemed to just remember and looked at Su Miao, apologizing. “Then let’s each say one dish, and then we’ll order and eat?”
“That works,” Li Yaxun agreed. “I want to eat fried stuffed tofu.”
Su Miao took a moment to calm down. “I want spicy stir-fried pork.”
Zhang Linyu then said, “Let’s also get an order of cola chicken wings.”
“Okay.” Xu Sheng immediately placed the order for the dishes they mentioned, plus a serving of greens. The restaurant was nearby, and the food was delivered quickly.
“We can finally eat.” Zhang Linyu ate big mouthfuls, a stark contrast to the first night. Su Miao was also extremely hungry and ate a lot. She loved spicy food, and the spicy dishes tasted particularly good to her.
After finishing the meal, Su Miao suddenly thought of sending the video of their performance to Bai Jin. Just as she was about to click “forward,” her finger stopped on the screen. She’s probably busy right now and doesn’t have time to watch it. Will sending this to her bother her? But this was the result of her hard work all morning, and she really wanted to share it with Bai Jin.
After a painful struggle, she finally clicked “send.” Then she immediately turned off her phone, not daring to look at the reply.
After dinner, everyone returned to their rooms, and the day was officially over. Su Miao was walking down the hallway when she suddenly heard Xu Sheng call out to her.
“What’s wrong?” Su Miao turned to look at her.
“Thank you,” Xu Sheng said, looking at her. Her eyes were just like the prince’s from that morning, but the darkness of the night hid them. “I’m so happy I was able to act out the mermaid I’ve always imagined with you. It was worth it to come here.”
So she came to thank her. Su Miao relaxed and waved her hand. “It’s nothing. I never thought that a stage play we rehearsed in a rush back then would be something you’d remember until now. This is a form of recognition for me, and I’m grateful for that, too.”
Su Miao stopped herself from saying too many polite words. “Well, I’m going back to rest now. It’s getting late, so you should go to bed early, too.”
“Okay, good night,” Xu Sheng said in a very soft voice. Su Miao had already turned around and was walking away.
Back in her room, Su Miao put her phone on the table and went to wash up. When she finally got back into bed, exhausted, she picked up her phone and checked WeChat. The chat with Bai Jin was still on the video she had sent. It seemed Bai Jin was still busy and hadn’t had time to watch her video.
She had been busy all day and hadn’t had time to think, but now that she was free, her mind was filled with Bai Jin. Where is she? What is she doing? She was so curious.
Su Miao sighed softly. I’ll go crazy if I think about it anymore. I should find something else to do. So she opened Weibo again, wanting to read some entertainment news. But after only a few pages, she was overcome with sleepiness.
The next day, Su Miao woke up naturally. The first thing she did was check the time on her phone. Fortunately, it was only 8 AM, so it wasn’t too late to get up. Her index finger instinctively slid to the second page of apps and she noticed a noticeable red circle on the WeChat icon. Someone messaged me. Su Miao felt a little nervous. Was it a message from Bai Jin? Logically, no matter how busy she was, she would eventually look at her phone after she was done. A responsible person like Bai Jin wouldn’t read a message and not reply.
Sure enough, when she opened it, Su Miao saw a message from Bai Jin. The message was sent at 2 AM.
Bai Jin: It’s great that you’re showcasing your acting skills on the show, but you should also be aware that it has pros and cons. While it allows the audience to get to know you, directors might also notice you and judge your acting based on this performance.
The acting style for a stage play is different from that for film and TV, and it could be misunderstood. Su Miao slapped her forehead. Why did she only just realize this? So what should she do to make the audience get to know her quickly?
Su Miao fell into deep thought. Suddenly, Bai Jin sent her another message.
Bai Jin: I have a suggestion. Your biggest competitive advantage on this show is your looks. After interacting with you for a few days, I can tell you do your own makeup very well, accentuating your features and downplaying your flaws. So, I hope you can showcase this skill on the show. A simple makeup tutorial could attract many female fans. This could be the first step in building your fan base.
She was just worrying about this problem, and Bai Jin immediately gave her a solution. Does this mean we’re kind of in sync?
But Bai Jin had replied at 2 AM last night, so she must have been exhausted. And now she was up so early again. She must be so tired.
Su Miao: Okay, I’ll give it a try. [heart emoji]
Bai Jin: You’re up?
Was she upset that she had woken up too late?
Su Miao: Yeah, I’m up. I could have woken up earlier. I was going to set an alarm last night, but I forgot. I’ll do it now while I remember.
Bai Jin: You don’t have to. The program doesn’t have any specific rules about your routine, so you can just follow your own. They won’t edit your wake-up time into the show.
So that’s how it was. Su Miao immediately stopped trying to set an alarm.
Bai Jin: But, on a film set, you might not have as much time to rest.
That made sense. She had heard many seniors in school talk about their experiences on film sets. They worked from early morning until late at night, and sometimes they even had to film night scenes and work all night without rest. She knew this job wasn’t easy, but she had chosen it without hesitation. At first, it was for herself, but when she realized Bai Jin was on this path with her, she became even more motivated.
Su Miao: I’ll get used to it quickly. By the way, you replied at 2 AM last night, and you’re already messaging me again at 8 AM. Did you get enough rest?
Staying up late was bad for you, and she was a little worried.
Bai Jin: It’s fine. I’m used to it. I don’t usually get much sleep.
For some reason, seeing her message made Su Miao’s heart ache. Bai Jin didn’t get much sleep herself, but she still wanted her to get enough rest. As a top agent, Bai Jin must have more things to deal with than she could ever imagine.
Su Miao: I know you’re busy, but I still want you to rest well. I’ll be fine here on my own. I’ll report everything to you, so you can relax.
She sent her thoughts without thinking. Su Miao reread the message and immediately felt that it was inappropriate, but Bai Jin had been replying in seconds. If she retracted the message now, it would make her seem guilty.
But this time, Bai Jin didn’t reply immediately. She waited for two minutes, and the message still couldn’t be retracted. Su Miao still didn’t receive a reply. She must be busy again. Thinking this, Su Miao put down her phone, got out of bed, and went to wash up.
After washing her face, she applied her toner and moisturizer in front of the mirror, but she didn’t put on any makeup. Listening to Bai Jin’s advice, she shouldn’t put on makeup in her room but should do it outside where the cameras were. After she was done with her skincare, Su Miao sat back on her bed and saw a message from Bai Jin.
Bai Jin: I’m fine. I’ll come over after I’m done here.
Seeing Bai Jin’s firm reply, Su Miao didn’t know what else to say. It was her decision whether to rest or not.
Su Miao: Okay, I’ll wait for you.
She habitually tidied up her room before heading out. She had woken up earlier than usual today, and she wanted to eat breakfast before doing her makeup. As she walked down the hallway, she passed Xu Sheng’s room. She didn’t know if she was inside. If she wasn’t awake yet, knocking would bother her. After hesitating for a moment, Su Miao decided to go to the dining hall first. Last time, Xu Sheng had made breakfast for her, so this time she could make some for her.
When she got to the dining hall, two people were already there. Zhang Linyu and Li Yaxun were eating breakfast and laughing, clearly having arranged to meet. When they saw Su Miao come in, their laughter stopped.
Zhang Linyu smiled and greeted her. “Morning, Su Miao. Why are you up so early today? Do you have something to do?” With one sentence, she reminded everyone of how late she had been waking up.
Su Miao smiled back and replied, “Nothing in particular, I just woke up naturally.”
Su Miao walked past them, grabbed a glass of milk, and then looked at the sliced bread on the table. She grabbed two slices, pulled out a chair opposite them, and started munching on her bread. From across the table, Zhang Linyu noticed that Su Miao was still barefaced. Her face had no makeup, but her features were still as defined as a doll’s. When she usually saw Su Miao, she had light makeup on, which made her eyes look bigger and softened her face, making her look gentle and lovely. Now, she looked more innocent and fresh. As if she had something on her mind, Zhang Linyu’s smile faded slightly.
Li Yaxun also noticed that Su Miao was barefaced. She looked at her in shock and said, “Su Miao, you look so beautiful even without makeup. It’s like you were born to be a star with a face like that.”
Su Miao had been thinking of getting them to mention her bare face. As expected, the staff member with the camera heard their conversation and walked over to get a close-up shot of her face.
Su Miao didn’t get arrogant from the praise. After swallowing her bread, she said, “I just look like an ordinary person. You’re giving me too much credit.” How can this be an ordinary person? How many actors are as beautiful as she is? Li Yaxun thought to herself, but she didn’t dare to say it out loud, in case she was accused of trying to tear her down.
Zhang Linyu said, “Why are you barefaced today? I remember you had makeup on the last two days.”
Su Miao explained, “I suddenly wanted to do my makeup in front of the camera. It’s a challenge for me.”
Li Yaxun looked at her in surprise. “That’s a challenge only a beautiful person can do. I don’t even dare to be on camera without makeup.”
Zhang Linyu nodded in agreement. “Me too.”
But before she did her makeup, she wanted to prepare breakfast for Xu Sheng. She had noticed that there were plenty of ingredients here. However, her cooking skills were limited, so there wasn’t much she could make. Su Miao looked at the sliced bread in her hand and suddenly thought of a simple dish.
