Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
â—ŽMy Artistâ—Ž
Bai Jin had already taken off her headphones, but the surrounding noise had completely stopped. Even the people who were making a ruckus and saying “love” were silent. Everyone was waiting quietly for the final answer.
Su Miao stood at the furthest point from Bai Jin, her gaze cutting through everyone to land on her. In fact, she had known the answer was getting more and more twisted after she passed the word along, but now that Bai Jin hadn’t spoken yet, it was still unknown if she got it right.
“Lover or romantic partner, I feel it’s one of these two answers.” Unexpectedly, Bai Jin didn’t say the word she had confirmed with Zhang Linyu. In an instant, the people on the scene erupted. How did she guess the wrong answer without any hints?
Su Miao’s mouth was slightly agape in shock, but on camera, her expression didn’t change much. There were cameras everywhere, so she didn’t dare to make any exaggerated gestures that would make others think she was secretly passing along information.
“Oh, that’s not the same as the answer you confirmed with Linyu in the end.” The host also looked at her curiously, but she was a professional host. When she saw that Bai Jin didn’t intend to answer her question, she immediately changed the topic. “Then, please tell us, what is your final answer? Is it ‘lover’ or ‘romantic partner’?”
Bai Jin didn’t answer immediately. She lowered her eyes and thought carefully for a moment before answering. “Both words imply a romantic relationship, but the social acceptance is worlds apart. I’m guessing it’s ‘romantic partner’.”
When Bai Jin said the word “romantic partner,” she bit the word lightly. It traveled to Su Miao’s ears and felt like a feather caressing her heart. It was a little tingly. For the first time, she heard such a gentle word from Bai Jin’s mouth.
She had been watching Bai Jin, and she didn’t know if her eyes were playing tricks on her, or if she was hallucinating, but she felt that Bai Jin was looking at her when she said those two words. It must be a delusion. On that hot summer day, she had rejected her confession and hadn’t even given her a chance to be her romantic partner.
Su Miao gave a bitter smile and looked up at Bai Jin again. This time, it wasn’t her delusion. Bai Jin was indeed looking at her. Her eyes widened, and her heart inexplicably started to beat faster.
“Bai Jin, are you sure about your answer?” the host asked again. The surroundings became quiet again, still waiting for an answer. This time, Bai Jin didn’t hesitate and quickly gave her answer. “Yes, I’m sure.”
Everyone sighed when they heard the answer. They thought Bai Jin would be able to keenly sense the misleading hint from Zhang Linyu and correct it in time, but they didn’t expect her to be wrong. But on second thought, it was understandable. It was excusable to choose the wrong word when the two words were so similar.
“You were so close. That’s a shame. The correct answer is ‘lover’.” The host said with a look of regret and even waved her hand in disappointment. She then looked at Bai Jin and saw that she had no special reaction after hearing the wrong answer. She was still calm.
“But the answer was very close. It’s already great. But you won’t get any points for this answer. Please go and rest. The next team can start the game.” The host made a gesture to invite the team that just finished to come down, and at the same time, the other team came up to take their positions.
While they were walking off the stage, Su Miao quickly caught up to Bai Jin and walked beside her. Anyway, they were now an agent and an artist, so it was a natural thing for them to walk together. She wanted to say a few words to express her pity, but she thought of Zhang Linyu walking behind them. Ever since she found out the correct answer, she had looked a little disappointed and self-blaming. With that in mind, she didn’t have a habit of being mean to others, so she didn’t say anything. The game was over, and there was no need to dwell on it.
Su Miao and Bai Jin followed the staff’s guidance and sat in the first row of the audience seats. When they were playing the game, the members of the other team were also watching. The topic for this team was “watermelon.” It wasn’t hard to express, but it was difficult to accurately convey “watermelon” out of all the fruits and to make sure the message wasn’t misunderstood during the transfer. But unexpectedly, their message was passed very smoothly. No one got stuck, and they successfully said the word “watermelon” in the end. The first round naturally went to the “Must-Win” team.
“Then the winner is obvious. The ‘Definitely-Gonna-Win’ team has a small punishment. Please welcome our staff member to bring up the punishment,” the host said, looking at the person walking toward them. The person was holding a tray with a few exquisite-looking wine glasses on it. It looked like a cocktail. Su Miao was a little worried. If it was alcohol, she would definitely refuse to drink it.
“This is a weird-flavored cocktail that we carefully prepared. The alcohol content is not high, but I guarantee that every glass will surprise you,” the host said. Su Miao instantly felt hopeless. This clearly meant that she couldn’t take this punishment.
A staff member was already holding a glass in front of her. It would seem rude not to take it. After much hesitation, she raised her hand to pick up the glass in front of her. She could clearly feel her hand trembling. The last time, she got drunk from a single drop at a bar. Now it was a whole glass. There might not even be any medicine for hangovers here. She didn’t know how long she would be dizzy. Her fingertips were inching closer to the glass, but just before they touched it, someone took her glass.
“My artist can’t drink. I’ll drink it for her,” Bai Jin said, her voice cool and carrying a sense of authority that couldn’t be refused. When everyone heard her, they were all shocked. Su Miao couldn’t drink? As actors, they might need to go to dinner parties and drink. Not being able to drink would be a disadvantage. Did she have to refuse when an investor handed her a drink? Because of Bai Jin’s words, all eyes were on the two of them.
Su Miao looked at Bai Jin gratefully. She had originally planned to take the glass and then explain to everyone that she couldn’t drink and ask the staff to give her a non-alcoholic drink with a weird flavor. But Bai Jin’s action of taking on two punishments meant she didn’t have to ask for a replacement drink.
“It was indeed our oversight as a production team for not finding out that Su Miao doesn’t drink. Now that Bai Jin is willing to drink for her artist, I would like to ask the ‘Must-Win’ team if you agree?” The host looked at the team that didn’t have to be punished.
“We agree,” Li Yaxun said after talking to her teammates for a moment. This was an answer that everyone present knew. In the future, they would all be in the entertainment industry and were in the process of building their image. They had to show good manners and poise on the show. It would be a bit harsh to put a girl who couldn’t drink in a difficult position.
Su Miao turned to the “Must-Win” team and smiled sweetly. “Thank you for your understanding.” She then looked at Bai Jin, her eyes filled with gratitude. “And thank you to my agent for taking my punishment.” She had just called herself Bai Jin’s artist. Now, it wasn’t too much for her to call her “my agent,” right? She felt a sense of joy when she heard Bai Jin call her “my artist.”
“This is what I should do,” Bai Jin said. She held a cocktail in each hand. She first drank her own glass, tilting her head back and downing it in one go. Her expression didn’t change after she finished it. Then, she started drinking Su Miao’s glass. She also finished it without a moment’s hesitation. But after she finished this glass, she slightly frowned. Her expression wasn’t obvious. If Su Miao hadn’t been watching her, she probably wouldn’t have noticed.
“It doesn’t taste good, does it?” Su Miao regretted that she hadn’t just asked the host for a non-alcoholic drink. Then Bai Jin wouldn’t have had to drink this one.
“A little,” Bai Jin said, putting the empty glasses back on the tray and was about to have the staff take them away. Su Miao immediately used her hand to stop her. She took the glasses from her and looked at the bottom of them. There were stickers at the bottom. The one Bai Jin drank had “bitter” written on it, and the one that Su Miao was supposed to drink had “sour” written on it.
Xu Sheng and Chen Linyu both made a face after they finished their drinks. Chen Linyu even picked up a bottle of water next to her and started chugging it. It seemed that the production team had exaggerated the strange flavors. So Bai Jin could tolerate bitterness but not sourness. This was the first time Su Miao had learned about Bai Jin’s taste preferences. She put the glasses back on the tray and motioned for the staff to take them. She had already silently noted down that Bai Jin didn’t like sour things. In fact, she was pretty good with sour flavors, but since Bai Jin didn’t like it, she would eat less of it.
This was the second mini-game, and the second round was still based on the same teams and order. It was a line memorization game. For Su Miao’s team, this was an advantage since they had three actors who had a background in memorizing lines. But Su Miao didn’t relax. When she stood at the front, her heart started to beat faster. In the beginning, she didn’t know there was a punishment, so she didn’t care about winning or losing, but now that she knew there was a punishment mechanism, she wanted to avoid it as much as possible.
The host showed Su Miao the lines she needed to memorize.
“No matter how many times I have to travel or how many identities I have to change, I will return to your side. Whether you use me, hate me, or want revenge on me, I will gladly accept it. So please don’t reject me. It’s useless. To be closer to you, I’m willing to die by your blade.”
When she saw the lines, Su Miao immediately knew that it was from the drama Qin Xue, the one that won An Yixin the Film Queen award. She had also stayed up late to watch it. An Yixin’s performance in this scene was outstanding, as she perfectly portrayed a woman who was at her wit’s end but was desperate for love. She wondered if Bai Jin remembered these lines.
