Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
â—ŽI Won’t Get Fatâ—Ž
The host lowered her voice and asked, “Are you ready?”
Her subtle reminder instantly snapped Su Miao out of her daze. I’m on a show. How can I space out? Su Miao mentally cursed herself and nodded at the host. She only needed to look at the words once to remember them. She was a loyal fan of this show and had watched it no less than three times. She had already memorized these impressive lines.
She turned around, and the wooden board that separated her and Ye Qian slowly moved away. In this segment, they could talk to each other. When Ye Qian saw Su Miao, she immediately took off her headphones. “You can start. I’m ready.”
Su Miao nodded, and the scene of the female lead saying those lines came to her mind. She then slowly recited the lines, word for word.
The other team was shocked. Su Miao’s acting skills were so good, and she had memorized all the lines in such a short time. Everyone was praising her, but only Su Miao knew that it was the quality of a loyal fan. After hearing the entire segment, Ye Qian frowned in thought and tentatively asked, “Qin Xue?”
“Yes, yes, yes.” Su Miao nodded hard. “It’s the part where the female lead is being held at knifepoint by her lover, and she’s crying while saying it.”
“It really is that show. Say it again. I’ll try to remember it. I’ve never watched this show before, but maybe the last person will remember it.” Ye Qian called out Bai Jin’s name without any hesitation. But the person she called out was wearing headphones and couldn’t hear anything.
At this time, the board was slowly moving out, about to separate them. Su Miao took a deep breath and recited the lines again without stopping. Although she spoke quickly, her words were clear. Ye Qian gave her a thumbs-up and said, “I got it.”
Although her turn was over, according to the rules, she still couldn’t leave. She had to stand there and listen to the others. She listened carefully to the next few parts. Although Ye Qian couldn’t memorize all of them, she remembered most of the words. When it got to Xu Sheng, she was probably also a fan of Qin Xue and added some more. Su Miao was a little worried when it was Zhang Linyu’s turn, but unexpectedly, Zhang Linyu heard the first line and excitedly yelled that it was from Qin Xue.
Zhang Linyu said excitedly, “I remember it! I remember it!” Before Xu Sheng could finish, she recited the lines and added, “I also acted in this show.” Xu Sheng wasn’t mad that she was interrupted and instead encouraged her. “Yes, those are the lines. You did a great job of reciting them.”
Next, it was Bai Jin’s turn. Su Miao’s breathing became a little rapid. Bai Jin probably got this role for An Yixin. This was also the scene that was shown at the Magnolia Awards when An Yixin was nominated. Would she remember An Yixin’s most classic lines? Her many doubts were quickly answered.
Zhang Linyu recited the lines. Su Miao perked her ears up, but she didn’t hear Bai Jin’s response for a while. Did she remember or not? Why is it so quiet? She couldn’t help but lean on the board and sneak a peek. For some reason, she made eye contact with Bai Jin. Did she predict that I would peek? Su Miao instantly turned around as if she had been electrocuted and didn’t look back.
The host’s voice rang out, “Bai Jin, I saw you muttering for a long time. Are you familiar with these lines?” Bai Jin’s voice was as calm as ever. “They are lines from Qin Xue.”
“This show was so popular a year ago. When the theme song comes on, it feels like we’re back in that summer. I’m also a fan.” The host went on and on, but when she saw that Bai Jin didn’t respond, she remembered that she and An Yixin were former partners, so she probably didn’t want to talk about it.
“My apologies. I just got a little emotional when I heard those lines,” the host said, quickly changing the topic. “Then, Bai Jin, please recite what you just heard.”
When Bai Jin and An Yixin announced that their contract had ended, it caused a sensation because An Yixin had publicly thanked Bai Jin and said that if it weren’t for her, she wouldn’t be where she was today. Now, for the former agent to recite An Yixin’s most famous lines, it was probably a special arrangement by the production crew to capitalize on their fame.
Su Miao hid behind the board and listened quietly. Bai Jin’s voice was cool, but the lines were very passionate. Unexpectedly, she recited them without any awkwardness. If An Yixin’s original lines sounded like a plea for love, Bai Jin’s lines were a statement of a fact of love. No matter the outcome, she just wanted the process. So, this is how Bai Jin talks about love.
The corners of Su Miao’s mouth slightly curled up. She could tell that Bai Jin’s lines were different from the original, but the difference was minimal, almost just a substitution of two or three words.
“I can see that everyone is surprised. Bai Jin’s recitation was so good, and the integrity was very high,” the host said, leading the applause. Soon, applause rang out from the audience. “This applause is for Bai Jin, and also for Su Miao, Ye Qian, Xu Sheng, and Zhang Linyu. Every guest’s recitation was great.”
After this game ended, it was time for the next team to come up. They went off the stage, and Su Miao still sat next to Bai Jin. Su Miao thought for a long time and finally found a topic. “I can’t believe you’re so good at memorizing lines. Did you have training, too?”
The corners of Bai Jin’s mouth lifted as she looked at her. “No. I read the script and approved it. I was also on set when An Yixin was filming, so I remembered this scene and was able to recite it.”
“Oh, I see.” Now that Bai Jin had also gotten her a role, she wondered if she would also follow her on set. Su Miao wanted to know the answer, but it wasn’t appropriate to ask here. It wasn’t appropriate to ask because it would reveal her needs. Before she expressed her feelings, she was just secretly in love.
Ever since she met Bai Jin again, Su Miao had realized that Bai Jin had no sense of familiarity with her. It was as if she didn’t remember her confession back then. Well, Bai Jin was a popular figure in school. She was smart, had a good personality, and was beautiful. Many people had a crush on her, sent her love letters, and confessed to her. Su Miao was just one of them. She was no different from the other students who were rejected.
Thinking this, Su Miao gave a bitter smile. Bai Jin gave her a faint look, then quickly looked away, a complicated emotion in her eyes.
“I heard you made An Yixin give up Director Liu’s movie for this show, and he still remembers it,” Ye Qian said, who was sitting next to Su Miao and naturally joined their conversation when she heard them talking.
“Didn’t your artist get that role a long time ago?” Bai Jin turned her head to look at Ye Qian. For some reason, Su Miao smelled a bit of a rivalry. Being stuck between two agents, she felt a little restless and unconsciously sat up straight.
Ye Qian was stunned for a moment. She didn’t expect Bai Jin to be so direct. There were cameras everywhere, and if her words were edited and taken out of context, she didn’t want to risk it. She blamed herself for saying the wrong thing at the beginning.
“We got the role after a few auditions. I heard that Director Liu was still undecided, but maybe our sincerity moved him later on,” Ye Qian explained.
Bai Jin smiled but didn’t say anything back. Her gaze returned to the stage, watching the other team play the game. To be fair, the lines for the second team were also from Qin Xue, another excellent scene from An Yixin. The transfer was still good, but when it got to the last person, it was obvious that the agent hadn’t watched Qin Xue. As a result, the final lines were a bit off, and they lost the second round.
The second team’s punishment was to eat a weird-flavored dessert. After the punishment was over, the entire game segment was completed. The host had everyone stand in the middle of the stage for a final group photo, and then today’s team-building was over.
Su Miao and Bai Jin walked together. Su Miao thought about how the host said the alcohol content was very low, but she didn’t know if Bai Jin would get dizzy after two glasses. In her opinion, drinking alcohol was very uncomfortable.
“Bai Jin, you drank two glasses of alcohol just now. Do you feel okay?”
“I’m fine. I have a good alcohol tolerance.”
Su Miao nodded thoughtfully. She heard that humans could improve their alcohol tolerance with practice. If one day she learned how to drink, Bai Jin wouldn’t have to drink for her. She asked, “How did you get so good at drinking? Can I learn?”
Bai Jin suddenly stopped walking. “You don’t need to practice.”
Su Miao was also stunned. The words sounded a little sweet. She looked up at Bai Jin, wondering how to respond, when she heard Bai Jin’s next words.
“Some people are just born without the ability to drink. Practice won’t help, so there’s no need to force it. I’ll be here to drink for you.” Bai Jin then continued to walk forward.
Su Miao also quickly caught up to her. She sighed secretly. So she just thought practicing was useless, not that she didn’t want her to drink. It seemed she was really overthinking things. Su Miao patted her head, trying to shake the wild thoughts out of it.
“Stop patting your head. You’ll get stupid, and you still have to memorize lines,” Bai Jin said, grabbing her hand.
“Okay, I won’t,” Su Miao said, immediately giving in. She wouldn’t do anything Bai Jin told her not to.
Since they lived next door to each other, they both stopped in front of their rooms.
“Go rest first. You can read the script if you want. Also, this show has a body requirement, so try not to gain any weight,” Bai Jin said, seriously looking at Su Miao. “You look great just the way you are.”
Is she complimenting my body?
“Okay, I won’t gain weight,” Su Miao said, acting as she always did in front of Bai Jin—well-behaved.
Bai Jin didn’t seem to be in a rush to go back to her room. She probably wanted Su Miao to go back first. So Su Miao took the initiative to open her door, stood in her room, and waved at her.
“You should also rest well.”
