Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 26
Chapter 26: I Won’t Leave You
Even after she fell, the winding snake was still coiled around her ankle.
“Are you hurt?”
The scream sounded very familiar; Bai Jin immediately recognized it as Su Miao’s. She quickly hung up the phone and rushed toward the source of the sound.
She ran a few steps and arrived by Su Miao’s side. Looking down, she saw Su Miao trembling, a snake coiled around her white pants.
As it moved, its black scales even made a rustling sound.
Su Miao was so frightened that tears streamed down her face, but she didn’t dare to move too much, afraid that the snake would be startled and bite her.
“Snake…”
“Don’t move. I’ll figure something out.” Bai Jin’s eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, looking for something she could use.
Soon, her gaze locked onto a dead tree branch on the ground.
Although there were trees everywhere, this branch had clearly been broken off by someone, and there were no forks on it.
Bai Jin quickly picked it up and slowly approached the snake.
Her movements were light, afraid of angering the snake and causing it to hurt Su Miao.
The snake’s head was right by Su Miao’s calf, its eyes fixed on her, its tongue flicking.
Su Miao closed her eyes slightly, not daring to look at what was about to happen.
After an unknown amount of time, the pain she had expected didn’t come, and the constriction around her ankle gradually disappeared.
“It’s okay now.” Bai Jin knelt on the ground, slowly approaching Su Miao and reaching out to touch her head, wanting to give her some comfort. “I got rid of the snake. You’re safe now.”
Bai Jin’s words were very patient, even with a hint of tenderness, a stark contrast to the tone she used on the phone just moments ago.
After hearing Bai Jin say this, Su Miao cautiously opened one eye.
Bai Jin was right there, looking at her with concern.
“Is it really okay?” Her heart was still unsettled, and the disgusting feeling from before still lingered.
“Yes, it’s really okay.” Bai Jin said, and reached out to check Su Miao’s ankle. The snake had been cold, and now she should be able to feel the warmth of Bai Jin’s palm. “See? There’s nothing on your leg now.”
Su Miao nodded in gratitude.
This time, she was completely at ease and opened both eyes, meeting Bai Jin’s gaze directly.
In that instant, she felt incredibly guilty.
She had just been eavesdropping on her phone call, and now she had been caught, yet Bai Jin showed no sign of wanting to ask her why she was there.
When she heard her scream, her first reaction was to come and help her.
Su Miao slowly lowered her head. She had indeed done something wrong. They were only business partners, so why was she acting so possessive?
Bai Jin’s work and private life had nothing to do with her.
Was she being too sensitive, caring about everything related to Bai Jin to the point of doing something out of line?
“You weren’t there when I woke up, so I came here to look for you,” Su Miao said, tears still falling from her eyes and her voice choked with sobs. “After I got here, I heard you on the phone. I, I stopped for a while, about two minutes, and then the snake coiled around me.”
“I’m sorry.” Only now did she understand that if she had just gone and called Bai Jin directly, she might not have encountered the snake.
What happened was her own fault.
It was a punishment for eavesdropping on Bai Jin’s phone call.
After listening to her confession, Bai Jin showed no sign of blame. Instead, she took a pack of tissues from her pocket and pulled one out to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes.
“It’s okay. It’s all in the past. I believe you won’t do something like this again, right?” Bai Jin patiently guided her, like she was teaching a disobedient child.
“Right.” Su Miao nodded hard and also wiped a tear that had fallen to her chin.
“Good.” Bai Jin looked around. It was already getting dark, and the sun was just a red dot on the horizon. It could be dangerous in a forest like this. She took Su Miao’s wrist. “Let’s go back. We’ve been away from the group for a while. If we wait any longer, someone will come looking for us.”
“Okay, let’s go back.” Su Miao was helped by Bai Jin, trying to stand up, but as soon as she moved her left leg, she realized her ankle was so painful she couldn’t move it.
She hadn’t felt anything when she fell, but now that she moved, the pain was so bad that cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and her lips turned pale.
“Did you sprain your ankle?” Bai Jin didn’t dare to continue helping her up. Instead, she carefully followed her lead and let her sit back down.
“I think so. I didn’t feel anything before, but it hurts so much now,” Su Miao looked up at her. “Bai Jin, you should go back first and tell the production crew that I’m here so they can send people to get me.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, they were immediately rejected by Bai Jin.
“I won’t leave you here.” With that, she turned her back and bent down. “Come on, I’ll carry you back.”
“You don’t have to.” She could wait; she didn’t want to cause Bai Jin any more trouble.
Bai Jin turned to look at her, her expression becoming serious. “Do you remember the contract we signed? During the contract period, you have to listen to me.”
There seemed to be a clause like that.
“Get on.” Seeing that Su Miao still wasn’t moving, Bai Jin repeated herself, her tone heavier, not allowing her to think any further.
“Okay.” Su Miao shifted her body and lay entirely on Bai Jin’s back.
Bai Jin stood up with a firm push and carried her forward.
This was the first time they had been so close. Besides guilt, Su Miao was also a little moved.
She looked up at the sky. At some point, a crescent moon had appeared in the sky, surrounded by twinkling stars.
How wonderful it would be if this moment could last forever.
Su Miao closed her eyes, wanting to engrave the feeling of this moment in her heart forever.
Even if they didn’t end up together in the future, having this feeling was enough.
Mermaids were creatures of deep affection. Small moments of warmth could be remembered for a lifetime.
Just like their meeting over ten years ago, Bai Jin might have already forgotten, but she still remembered it.
Su Miao counted her heartbeats, one after another, until she heard other people’s voices.
“You’re finally back! Someone was about to go look for you,” the host said, rushing over to the two of them. Seeing that Bai Jin was carrying Su Miao and that she didn’t look well, he asked with concern, “Are you hurt? I have some medicine here.”
“I accidentally sprained my ankle. I also brought some medicine. I’ll just apply it when we get back to the tent,” Su Miao said, a faint smile on her lips.
She didn’t want to worry others.
The other guests also came over to ask about them. After Su Miao politely responded, Bai Jin carried her back to the tent.
