Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 27
Chapter 27: She Doesn’t Have Any Talents
It wasn’t a major injury. Su Miao had already prepared medicine when she found out they were going camping. As a child, she was quite a troublemaker, always getting herself into fights and scrapes. Back then, her mother would always pack a small first-aid kit whenever they went out.
Now, her parents were back in their underwater world, leaving her at her uncle’s house. When she got hurt, there was no one to immediately apply medicine for her.
After hurting herself a few times, she learned to prepare her own medicine.
It was the same now.
Su Miao took out a bottle of joint spray from her bag.
“Let me do it,” Bai Jin said, taking the spray from Su Miao’s hand. She glanced at the instructions, and following the directions, she sprayed Su Miao’s ankle from a distance.
The swollen, hot, and painful wound was immediately covered with a layer of liquid, and almost instantly, a cool sensation spread.
The temperature today wasn’t high. Wearing long sleeves even felt a little chilly.
With this cool sensation, she couldn’t help but shiver.
“Are you cold?” Bai Jin hadn’t brought many extra clothes. The weather was neither cold nor hot, and a light jacket was enough. Seeing her shake her head, she still pulled her jacket’s zipper up.
She must have been cold but didn’t dare to say it.
So, without waiting for her to refuse, she took off her jacket and put it in Su Miao’s arms.
“Wear it for now.” Bai Jin rummaged through her small first-aid kit, found some bandages, and carefully wrapped her ankle.
She tried to be as gentle as possible, but Su Miao’s foot was already so swollen that even the slightest movement made her clench her teeth in pain.
Su Miao kept her head down, hugging Bai Jin’s jacket. It had her unique perfume scent, a subtle yet profound woody fragrance in the base notes.
After Bai Jin finished wrapping her ankle, Su Miao looked up at her, her eyes looking pathetic, like a small injured animal. “Thank you.”
Today, she had not only accomplished nothing but also eavesdropped on Bai Jin, hurt her foot, and was joining the crew the day after tomorrow. She didn’t know if this would affect the filming.
She was already regretting her earlier curiosity.
The only thing she could be glad about was that Bai Jin didn’t blame her and stayed with her the entire time.
With a manager like this by her side, it was no wonder that on the highest stage for actors, An Yixin would give her first thanks to Bai Jin.
“I probably won’t be able to stand up for tonight’s filming,” she said. She had one day to rest tomorrow, but no matter what, she had to stand up the day after tomorrow and not affect the film crew.
Bai Jin reached out and gently rubbed her head, her fingers threading through her golden hair. The light pressure gave Su Miao a wonderful feeling.
Since earlier, Bai Jin seemed to enjoy doing this.
Was she trying to comfort her?
“It’s okay. You can still appear on camera with a foot injury. I’ll tell the production crew that you accidentally sprained your foot in the forest. You don’t need to explain further.” Bai Jin put away the medicine she had used and then lifted the tent flap and walked out.
While waiting, Su Miao sat quietly, not even playing with her phone, like a child who had just made a mistake.
She was still in a state of guilt, regretting her actions and swearing to turn over a new leaf.
Bai Jin returned after a while.
“They’re getting ready for a barbecue. We can’t stay in the tent forever. I’ll help you out,” Bai Jin said, walking over to Su Miao and offering her arm.
She was right.
It was just a sprained ankle. Ning Yu had a much more serious injury and was able to continue filming after two days of rest. What was a little foot injury compared to that?
If she didn’t go out, the audience would immediately think she was being delicate and couldn’t handle any hardship.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Su Miao took Bai Jin’s arm.
“I just asked. They don’t have crutches, so for now, I’ll be your crutch.” Bai Jin slowed down her pace, carefully helping Su Miao out of the tent.
On the open lawn outside, several barbecue grills had been set up, and everyone was busy grilling.
Su Miao saw an empty chair next to one of the grills and pointed to it. “I can sit in that chair. I can’t run around with a foot injury, so sitting and barbecuing slowly is perfect.”
Everyone else was busy grilling and chatting. The spot she pointed to wasn’t in the center and was a bit off to the side, so the cameras might not focus on her. But Bai Jin also knew that Su Miao wasn’t the type to just sit around and do nothing. She nodded and helped Su Miao over to the chair.
She also pulled a chair over and sat next to Su Miao.
“Su Miao, are you okay? I brought some painkillers. Do you want some?” Li Yaxun saw Su Miao come out and immediately put down her skewers, walking over to her.
Su Miao’s white pants were a little dirty, and the bandage on her ankle was clearly visible.
Li Yaxun was grateful to Su Miao for helping her find her own style. When she heard Su Miao was hurt, she immediately looked for medicine. She was about to go to her tent when she ran into Zhang Linyu, who told her that Su Miao had already applied medicine.
So she hadn’t gone over.
Now seeing Su Miao looking a little weary, she thought about the medicine she had and offered it to Su Miao to ease her pain.
“My foot has been treated, so it doesn’t hurt as much anymore,” Su Miao said, turning the chicken wing skewer in her hand. “Thank you for your concern.”
Li Yaxun saw that she could still smile and felt a little relieved that it wasn’t that painful. “Then you should rest well. If you feel uncomfortable later, you can come find me for medicine anytime. By the way, I’ve grilled some. Do you want to eat some first?”
Su Miao shook her head and showed her the chicken wing she was grilling. “No, thanks, I’m grilling my own.”
Bai Jin listened to their conversation in silence, also grilling two skewers of chicken wings.
“Okay then.” Li Yaxun returned to her grill.
“Everyone’s hungry. Let’s eat first. We have a sky lantern activity later,” the host walked over and explained the schedule. Zhang Linyu saw that he hadn’t eaten yet and quickly offered him a skewer she had just grilled.
“Please eat first, handsome host.”
The host smiled and took a bite. “Mmm, this is delicious. Thank you, Linyu.”
Zhang Linyu smiled and waved. “You’re welcome.” Soon, she tiptoed to look at the crew members in the distance and then enthusiastically brought her grilled skewers over. “Come on, everyone. You all must not have eaten yet. Let’s eat together.”
Her actions were undoubtedly a bonus.
Su Miao’s chicken wing was finally ready. With honey and cumin, the smell alone was enough to make her mouth water.
“Do you want to try it?” she asked, taking the chicken off the skewer and placing it on a plate.
As soon as she said that, she noticed that Bai Jin was also grilling chicken wings. She had been so lost in thought just now that she had forgotten.
Bai Jin probably didn’t need it.
But since she had already offered, Su Miao secretly waited for Bai Jin to refuse so she could start eating.
Unexpectedly, Bai Jin didn’t refuse and took the plate, but she didn’t eat it immediately. She put it on a nearby table.
After that, she took a clean plate, put her own grilled chicken wings on it, and handed it to Su Miao.
“You should try mine, too.”
This was them grilling for each other, wasn’t it?
Su Miao smiled as she took it. Bai Jin had never embarrassed her and always considered her feelings.
Even with that failed confession, she had never been rejected by Bai Jin.
She was truly so gentle.
Su Miao took a bite. It was very fragrant, the meat was tender, and the sauce was perfectly seasoned.
Bai Jin saw her eating with gusto and also picked up the chicken wing Su Miao had given her, taking a bite.
Soon, her expression soured.
For a moment, she didn’t know if she should continue eating.
“Is it good?” Su Miao looked at her with anticipation, a sweet smile on her face.
For the first time, Bai Jin looked away from Su Miao first when their eyes met.
“It’s good,” she said, and continued to eat the chicken wing on the plate.
Hearing her confirmation, Su Miao’s interest in grilling returned. She took another skewer of chicken wings from the ice bag next to her.
It seemed that even though she wasn’t a good cook, she had a talent for grilling.
Bai Jin silently watched her actions and sighed in her heart.
After all, she was her own artist, so she could only endure and continue to eat.
Although half of the guests were actors, delicious food like barbecue was rare for them to eat normally, so everyone ate to their heart’s content.
Su Miao looked at Bai Jin pitifully, wanting to eat one more skewer.
Bai Jin was a little helpless at her gaze and agreed to her request.
But when she saw Su Miao getting ready to eat the one she had grilled herself, she immediately stopped her and put the one she had grilled in front of her.
Su Miao was a little confused, guessing that this was probably to make their relationship look better for the cameras. After all, Bai Jin’s absence a while ago might have been a topic of discussion.
So she didn’t ask and obediently took the chicken wing Bai Jin had grilled.
After everyone had finished eating, the host walked to the middle of the lawn and sat down. “Alright, everyone. You’ve eaten enough. Come sit down.”
Everyone walked over. Su Miao was also helped by Bai Jin, and they all sat in a circle.
“Today, we let everyone come out to breathe fresh air and enjoy nature. This is also our second-to-last day of group filming. I’m sure you all have a lot to say, so please speak your mind. Or if you want to sing or dance, you can also perform a talent. Let’s spend a beautiful night together,” the host said. As soon as his words fell, everyone clapped in unison.
The first to walk out was Li Yaxun.
“I’ve studied traditional Chinese dance for six years, so I’ll perform a piece first,” Li Yaxun said, walking to the center and gesturing for the crew to play the music.
When the music started, she danced gracefully, her movements both moving and powerful. The elegance of the dance was perfectly embodied in her.
Su Miao was mesmerized, thinking that if she had a good sense of rhythm, maybe she could learn to dance.
But for some reason, mermaids were supposed to have a high talent for music, yet she was tone-deaf. The only reason she got a high score on her acting exam was because of her acting skills, and maybe her looks helped a little.
In short, she really had no talents.
She could only watch them perform, silently feeling a sense of envy.
Zhang Linyu went up and sang a song, a song that was a bit old-fashioned but fit the mood. The theme tonight was to spend one last beautiful night together.
The song she chose had both the sadness of farewell and the anticipation of the future.
Her slightly husky voice effortlessly conveyed the emotion of regret, instantly drawing everyone into the sadness of parting.
The host and some of the guests even shed tears.
Su Miao also felt a little sentimental, thinking of Xu Sheng, who had left early. If she were here, she would be sitting next to her, smiling at her.
By a strange impulse, she turned her head and glanced at Bai Jin. Bai Jin seemed to feel her gaze and looked back.
Their eyes met, and Su Miao felt as if she was back in that hot summer.
She was holding a carefully crafted love letter, blocking Bai Jin’s way.
Bai Jin had friends with her.
Her friends seemed used to this kind of behavior. They waved their hands and said, “See you at the usual spot,” and left.
Leaving only a nervous Su Miao and a calm Bai Jin.
“Bai Jin, I like you. Can we be together?” Su Miao’s ears were flushed from holding back the words. With that, she handed the love letter to Bai Jin.
It was a pink envelope with a pink seashell on the seal.
She had searched for a long time in the deep sea to find a naturally pink seashell.
Mermaids were not allowed to harm any sea creatures, or they would be cursed.
When she first saw the pink seashell, she had asked its owner for a long time, and even helped it find a new home, before the owner was willing to give her the shell.
In their belief, a pink seashell represented a wish for a beautiful future, wishing that the person who received it could be with their loved one forever.
She gave the seashell to Bai Jin, and if Bai Jin agreed, it would be a blessing for her and Bai Jin to be together for a long time.
If Bai Jin refused, she also hoped that the seashell would remain in Bai Jin’s hands.
Even if the blessing was no longer for her and Bai Jin, but for Bai Jin and someone else.
She also hoped Bai Jin could be with the person she loved.
So, without waiting for Bai Jin’s reply, she proactively took Bai Jin’s hand and placed the love letter solemnly in her palm.
Then she ran away in a flash, afraid that Bai Jin would chase after her and give the letter back.
The next day, what she got was the news of Bai Jin leaving.
She went abroad. Before the college entrance exam, her family arranged for her to study abroad.
Su Miao’s relationship had ended before it even had a chance to begin.
“Are you spacing out?” Bai Jin nudged Su Miao with her elbow, reminding her to pay attention.
“Huh?” Su Miao snapped out of her memory.
“Su Miao, do you have any talents you’d like to show?” the host asked with a smile, looking at Su Miao. She was the only artist who hadn’t performed yet. As the host, she had to make sure every guest got some camera time.
Su Miao looked at her foot, unable to stand up. So she just spoke from her seat.
“I don’t really have any talents,” she said honestly, feeling a little embarrassed. “But I do have a few words I’d like to say. Watching everyone’s performances just now was very moving. The fact that we could all gather here is a kind of fate. The story of these seven days is short, but it’s a ‘to be continued’.”
“I believe we will all meet at the top in the future.”
Su Miao’s words summed up all the events of the evening. Even without a talent, everyone could feel her emotions and were moved by them.
The applause was no less than for the previous guests.
“Alright, Su Miao said everything I was going to say to wrap up tonight,” the host said, smoothly transitioning to the last activity of the night. “Now, while we’re still in this mood, let’s release sky lanterns together. Write your greatest wishes on them.”
A staff member handed Su Miao a piece of paper and a pen.
“Alright, in a bit, I’ll show you all how to fold a small boat,” the host said, holding a white piece of paper himself, but he didn’t write anything on it.
Su Miao took the pen and paper and started to think. Now, her and Bai Jin’s wishes could be seen by each other since they were writing on the same paper.
What should she write?
She glanced at Bai Jin next to her, who seemed to have already decided what to write. She took the pen and wrote “everything gets better and better.”
It was a simple wish, but it wasn’t easy to achieve.
What would “better and better” mean? Bai Jin had already managed an artist who was at the top of the entertainment industry.
Su Miao pondered for a moment before she started writing “act well, be a good person.” These six words were also simple, but they had a different meaning for her.
She wanted to continue acting well to get Bai Jin’s recognition and continue their partnership, and at the same time, she wanted to be a good human so she wouldn’t be discovered.
To continue living in this beautiful world.
After seeing that everyone had finished writing, Su Miao asked the cameraman to film their wishes. These would be used as material for the show.
The host saw that everyone was ready to fold their boats and began his lesson.
He taught slowly, waiting for everyone to catch up on each step before moving to the next.
After they finished folding, everyone put their little boats in the water and let them float away with the current.
Bai Jin was the one who placed Su Miao’s little boat in the water. She watched from a distance as Bai Jin put their wish into the water, and then watched as the boat drifted farther and farther away.
Finally, it disappeared from sight.
With the last activity of releasing the paper boats, today’s filming came to an end.
Bai Jin helped Su Miao back to the tent.
“Does it still hurt?” Bai Jin asked about her foot injury. She had also injured her foot before. Many times, the nagging pain could keep her up all night.
“It still hurts a little, but I can bear it,” Su Miao said. She didn’t want to lie to Bai Jin. After what happened today, she didn’t want to deceive her anymore.
Bai Jin stood up. “Wait a moment. I’ll go get some painkillers from Li Yaxun.”
“Wait…” Su Miao wanted to say it wasn’t necessary, but Bai Jin had already left the tent.
When she came back, she had a pill and a cup of water in her hand.
This time, Su Miao couldn’t refuse. She obediently took the medicine and lay down.
