Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: The Silly Beauty
Su Miao, who was suddenly mentioned, was stunned for a moment, but quickly reacted. She waved to the girl and said with a sweet smile, “I will.”
Su Miao’s heart softened immediately when she saw the cute student and she became very gentle.
She was in a stage where she needed encouragement herself, but she was still thinking about cheering them on.
What a good student.
Bai Jin also nodded in agreement.
Jiang Rong then turned and walked into the office to see the doctor.
“I didn’t expect you to have a fan,” Su Miao said, secretly glancing at Bai Jin’s eyes. Seeing no sign of displeasure, she continued, “I don’t have any.”
“You will,” Bai Jin said. Seeing there was nothing else to do but wait for Su Miao’s number to be called, she took out her phone and started working.
Su Miao also believed that she would eventually meet her own fans. So she should also be like Bai Jin, with good character and no bad habits, achieving great things in her field and leaving a good impression on her fans.
She consciously made Bai Jin her goal again.
No matter what, Bai Jin would always be her direction.
Su Miao was secretly happy. This feeling of secretly keeping someone in her heart was a bit tiring, but she always found joy in it.
Just then, Xu Qingqing came back. “Sister Su Miao, I just checked in. We’re all set. Now we just have to wait for your number to be called.”
“Okay.”
Hearing Su Miao’s reply, Xu Qingqing found a seat and sat down.
Fortunately, there weren’t many people at the hospital today, and they only had to wait for half an hour for their number to be called.
“I’ll take Sister Su Miao in. Sister Bai, will you wait for us outside?” Xu Qingqing asked Bai Jin for her opinion.
Bai Jin stood up first. “I’ll take her in to see the doctor. I need to know about my artist’s physical condition in a timely manner.”
With that, she placed her hands on the wheelchair’s handles and slowly pushed her toward the medical office they were just called to.
Su Miao wasn’t surprised by Bai Jin’s actions. After spending some time with her, she felt that Bai Jin was the kind of person who took meticulous care of others.
During the two days of camping, after her foot injury, Bai Jin stayed by her side, constantly taking care of her and making sure she didn’t re-injure herself.
Upon entering the room, Su Miao smelled a strong scent of disinfectant. She had never liked this smell since she was a child. It was often accompanied by needles, and she was terrified of pain.
Bai Jin pushed her in front of the doctor. Looking down, she saw Su Miao’s brows furrowed tightly, as if she were facing a great enemy. There was even a thin layer of sweat on her forehead.
As she took a step back, Su Miao immediately turned her head, reached out, and gently tugged on her sleeve. “Don’t go.”
Su Miao’s fear was clearly written on her face.
Bai Jin reached out and held her wrist, comforting her. “I’m not going.”
“Okay.” Su Miao then obediently let go. The spot on her skin where Bai Jin had held her was still faintly hot.
So gentle.
Su Miao’s heart began to beat wildly.
“What’s your name?” the doctor asked as he looked at the computer screen.
“Su Miao,” Su Miao’s voice was weak. Standing in front of the doctor seemed to have drained all her strength.
“Don’t be afraid. Let me check your foot. It won’t hurt,” the doctor said, pulling up a chair and gesturing for Su Miao to put her foot on it.
Su Miao slowly lifted her foot, but it was too painful. Her movements were extremely slow, but neither of the two people in the room rushed her.
They patiently waited for her to move.
When Su Miao finally put her foot on the chair, the doctor began to examine her ankle.
“The emergency treatment was done very well. There was no secondary injury.”
The doctor unwrapped the bandage to examine the wound. Even with his gentle movements, a stinging sensation still came from the wound. Su Miao gritted her teeth to keep from crying out.
She turned her face away, no longer watching the doctor’s movements.
“Bear with it,” Bai Jin said, looking at Su Miao. Their eyes met, and their gazes conveyed a sense of mutual support.
In reality, Su Miao was captivated by Bai Jin’s gaze. She rarely saw a look of pain in Bai Jin’s eyes, and for some reason, she was certain that Bai Jin was feeling her pain.
It was a strange feeling, but it was so real that it made her want to cry.
Bai Jin suddenly looked away, took a stack of tissues from her bag, and knelt down close to Su Miao, reaching out to wipe her tears.
Was she crying?
Su Miao’s eyes were filled with surprise. She hadn’t even realized she was crying. It was just that the pain had brought out her emotions.
Her tears fell fiercely. Some of the tears she couldn’t wipe in time fell on Bai Jin’s fingertips, hot.
Bai Jin paused for a moment, then continued to wipe her tears.
She didn’t seem to mind her tears at all.
Was she really this gentle with everyone?
Su Miao was a little incredulous. In high school, Bai Jin was known for being a cold-hearted genius. Many people would confess to her, even knowing they would be rejected.
And many others were intimidated by her cold demeanor and chose to hide their feelings in their hearts.
After seven years of studying abroad and being in the industry, how had Bai Jin changed from a cold person to someone who would wipe a colleague’s tears and show such heartache in her eyes?
She desperately hoped that these changes were because of her.
But during that time, she had never appeared in front of Bai Jin. Even if she wanted to lie to herself, she couldn’t.
An Yixin?
She couldn’t help but think of the photo that had been denied.
Bai Jin didn’t know what was wrong with her. The more she wiped, the more tears fell.
“Does it hurt a lot?” Bai Jin asked the doctor. “Doctor, could you be a little gentler?”
The doctor looked back at Su Miao and, seeing that she was still crying, started to doubt himself. Had he been that heavy-handed?
He quickly nodded, promising to be gentler.
Su Miao also realized her odd behavior and quickly composed herself, feigning a calm demeanor as she looked at Bai Jin. “Could you give me a tissue? I’ll wipe them myself.”
Bai Jin took a tissue from her bag and placed it in Su Miao’s hand.
Su Miao lowered her head and composed herself.
It was okay. It was worth it to see such a gentle side of Bai Jin.
She comforted herself, repeatedly telling herself that these were minor issues. Bai Jin was her manager now, and they would have plenty of opportunities to get along in the future.
“I’m fine now,” Su Miao said, looking up again after she had composed herself. Her eyes and the tip of her nose were red, but you couldn’t tell she had been crying.
“Okay,” Bai Jin stood up again.
After the doctor finished his examination and she got X-rays, he concluded that Su Miao’s foot injury was not serious.
However, a strained muscle or fractured bone takes a hundred days to heal. She should try to avoid exercise and use a crutch when walking to prevent re-injuring the wound.
“But I still have to film,” Su Miao said, a little worried that this would affect the schedule.
Bai Jin comforted her. “Your scenes aren’t being filmed so early. They’ll start with the lead actors and let them get into character first. You can just learn from the side.”
So that’s how it was.
Su Miao nodded. She thought they were rushing her to the set because she was going to start filming right away.
It seemed she still had time to recover.
After seeing the doctor, Bai Jin took her to get her hair dyed and then went straight to the airport.
Sitting on the plane, she looked at her reflection in the window. It had been three years since she had dyed her hair black. She looked at this version of herself that was both familiar and strange.
She missed it, but she was even more grateful for the present.
She sat in the window seat and, with a slight turn of her head, she could see the scenery outside. Soft clouds floated in the air, and below were tiny houses and a vast blue sea.
When she was in the sea, she never thought that the unreachable clouds could be right next to her.
Just like Bai Jin, being chosen by her still felt as illusory as a dream, as if it would shatter with a touch.
Su Miao was probably a little tired from crying just now. Her eyes quickly grew heavy, and she fell asleep not long after closing them.
The three-hour flight ended quickly. After getting off the plane, the three of them got into a van that took them to a hotel near the film set.
Xu Qingqing dragged Su Miao’s luggage, and Bai Jin pushed her in the wheelchair.
The opening ceremony of “Half-Sweet Dreamer” was already halfway through. Su Miao arrived just in time for the second half, watching the lead actress, Zhang Bingyue, and the lead actor, Lin You, pray for the show’s ratings to be a great success.
Then, the main cast and other crew members took a group photo.
Su Miao watched from a distance. Her role in this show wasn’t big. She wasn’t even a female third or fourth lead, so she naturally didn’t have the right to be up there.
Her eyes looked a little forlorn. She used to think her looks were an advantage in the entertainment industry, but in reality, she was just a nobody. Standing on the side, no one even noticed her.
“Sister Su Miao, it’s okay. You’ll be up there one day,” Xu Qingqing said, noticing Su Miao’s sadness and quickly comforting her.
Su Miao let out a small laugh. How could she forget her facial expressions now?
As an artist, her micro-expressions would be magnified and discussed, so she should hide all her emotions when she was outside.
“I know. Don’t worry, I’m not that down in the dumps.” Su Miao remembered that when Bai Jin took on this project, she told her it was to give her exposure.
So, being able to appear in front of the audience was already the goal. Everything else was not important.
Bai Jin looked down at Su Miao but didn’t say anything.
After the opening ceremony ended, everyone dispersed. Zhang Bingyue noticed Bai Jin under the shade of a tree and walked over with a smile.
“I was quite surprised when I heard you took on this role for an artist. I thought you’d want the script for the second female lead,” Zhang Bingyue said, smiling at Bai Jin, then looking at Su Miao in the wheelchair with surprise. “She’s so beautiful. No wonder Bai Jin chose her.”
“I don’t choose scripts based on the role’s screentime. I choose the one that feels right.” Bai Jin answered casually, as if Su Miao’s role was indeed just something she picked up randomly.
Su Miao silently listened to their conversation. As someone who had read the script thoroughly, she knew that Bai Jin wouldn’t have just picked it out randomly.
This role was a great fit for her. First, the character was a beauty, which matched her looks.
Second, the character was a “silly beauty” who grows and transforms later on. A role like this, no matter how small the part, would be remembered by everyone.
