Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
â—ŽBut she’s just a pretty face.â—Ž
Instead of giving a direct prompt, Lu Yuncheng discussed it with Jiang Zhi in a low voice before turning back to Su Miao. “You receive a phone call that leaves you flustered. You can imagine the rest of the scene yourself.”
Su Miao nodded politely. “Okay, sirs, I’m ready.”
As she spoke, she quickly thought about what kind of scenario to create, but she didn’t have much time to deliberate, so she chose the simplest and most direct approach. People tend to get flustered when they have a guilty conscience. And for her, only one thing made her instinctively panic.
Getting into character, Su Miao walked with a brisk pace. Suddenly, as if she heard something, she reached into the nonexistent pocket of her dress and pulled out an imaginary object. She looked at it, then pressed an imaginary button at the bottom. She was clearly using a phone.
Since it was an interview and Su Miao was wearing a dress, with her bag and phone outside, she couldn’t pull out a real one. It seemed as if the call had connected, and she brought the “phone” to her ear.
“What? My student ID number has been chosen to participate in the college-level singing competition?” The moment she said that, her eyes revealed a look of helplessness and bewilderment.
“Can’t I swap with another student?” She seemed to want to struggle a bit, but that glimmer of hope was quickly shattered. “Okay… I guess.”
After the other person hung up, Su Miao slowly lowered her hand from her ear and, based on memory, tried to put the “phone” back into her pocket. But the next moment, she looked at the floor in a panic. Clearly, her distraction had caused the “phone” to fall to the ground. She crouched down to pick it up and wiped the imaginary dust off of it.
“Sigh, I’ll just have to give it a try,” Su Miao said, her voice filled with despair. When she looked up at the interviewers, her eyes were almost welling up with tears.
She parted her lips and tentatively began to hum a melody. The interviewers’ expressions subtly changed as they tried to listen to the tune. It seemed to be a popular song, but they couldn’t quite place it.
When she started singing the main part of the song, the younger interviewer who had wanted to recruit her as an idol secretly used a music-identifying app, only to find that even the all-powerful music library couldn’t recognize the tune.
The four interviewers’ expressions became more and more complex, and their brows furrowed into a tight knot. It was only after Su Miao finished the entire song that their expressions eased slightly.
When Su Miao finished singing, her performance was over. Her breathing was heavier than it had been when she was talking; the singing had left her a little breathless.
“This…” Lu Yuncheng opened his mouth but could only manage to say that one word, as if his ability to speak had been sealed by the terrible singing he had just heard.
Plonk! A bottle of mineral water fell to the floor. It was the young interviewer’s. Everyone’s gaze turned to him.
“Uh, I… also got a bit flustered,” he said, embarrassed. He had been shocked by Su Miao’s singing. He was impressed by her looks; she was great material for an idol. But being a black hole when it came to singing was a major flaw. He was checking her resume to see if she had any dancing skills when he accidentally knocked over the water bottle.
She did have a dancing background, but it was just average and not particularly outstanding. It seemed it would be difficult for her to be a good idol either. It was a shame. Such a beautiful girl was just a pretty face.
…
In the screening room.
“How can she be so direct about her weaknesses in an interview? Does she not want to be chosen by you?” Li Xinyi sat in the audience, watching the interviews. Bai Jin was with her.
“No,” Bai Jin’s eyes reflected the figure who was standing in front of the interviewers, looking a bit lost. From the moment she entered the conference room, Bai Jin had been watching her every move.
