Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Was Bai Jin’s Kiss Sweet?
What was wrong?
Su Miao’s mood immediately sank, but her steps toward Bai Jin didn’t falter.
The Bai Jin in front of her, however, had already calmed down. Her expression was the usual indifferent one, as if the grim look she had a moment ago was just a figment of Su Miao’s imagination.
Su Miao pretended she hadn’t seen her earlier expression and said in a light tone, “Today’s filming is done. The director said we’ll wrap up in two days.”
Bai Jin said calmly, “Good. I put a dress in your room. Go back and see if it fits. We’ll attend a gala in two days after we finish here.”
Su Miao immediately asked, “What gala?”
Bai Jin said, “The Zui Xing Entertainment Gala. All the managers and their artists who are available will be there. It’s an internal company gathering.”
A Zui Xing Entertainment Gala meant that if she was lucky, she could meet many A-list celebrities tonight.
Su Miao nodded.
Her first thought was An Yixin. However, not long after she won the Best Actress award, she left Zui Xing Entertainment. She probably wouldn’t be at the gala. For some reason, she was both curious about their relationship and afraid to know about it.
But this relationship was so complicated, so she decided not to think about it anymore.
All she knew was that she liked Bai Jin. She had liked her for a long, long time.
Now that Bai Jin was by her side, she had to give her best performance to make Bai Jin notice her.
Back in her room, she saw the dress Bai Jin had picked out for her.
It was a black gown. The star-dusted skirt was studded with tiny diamonds, looking as brilliant as the Milky Way.
Although she couldn’t see the brand, judging by the style and material, it must be quite expensive. It was unlikely a manager would buy clothes for an artist; it was probably rented.
Su Miao held it up to herself. The size was a perfect fit.
“It’s on loan from the brand. You have to return it after you wear it,” Bai Jin said, walking over and sitting on the sofa, her gaze fixed on Su Miao. “Go change.”
“Ah, okay.” The thought that this was a dress Bai Jin had chosen for her made Su Miao feel unconsciously nervous.
The dress was a body-hugging design that perfectly showed off her curves. The hem reached her ankles, and paired with a pair of black high heels, she looked elegant and refined.
Su Miao pushed open the dressing room door and saw Bai Jin waiting outside. As soon as she came out, Bai Jin’s eyes landed on her, taking in every inch of her.
If it were anyone else, Su Miao wouldn’t have cared, but this was Bai Jin, and Su Miao’s face immediately flushed.
“Come here.” Bai Jin beckoned with her long index finger.
Su Miao’s mouth instantly felt dry, and her face burned even more. Her heart was pounding, and her legs obediently walked toward her, one step at a time.
In the quiet atmosphere, the sound of her heels was exceptionally loud.
The distance between them grew smaller and smaller until Su Miao stopped in front of Bai Jin.
“I’m… here,” Su Miao said, not knowing what to say or do. Her mind was a complete mess.
Bai Jin reached out and wrapped her arm around Su Miao’s waist, pulling her closer and making her fall onto the sofa next to her.
Then, she reached for Su Miao’s back and took off her hair tie.
In that instant, Su Miao’s thick hair cascaded down her shoulders, looking messy yet alluring.
Su Miao was too stunned to move, her eyes looking timidly yet straight at Bai Jin.
This made Bai Jin smile. Her fingertips ran through Su Miao’s hair, as if afraid of hurting her. Her movements were soft and slow.
The distance between them was less than a fist’s width.
If Su Miao leaned her head forward just a little, her lips could touch Bai Jin’s.
Bai Jin’s lips were thin. Her voice was usually cold, so Su Miao wondered if her lips were also cold.
She suddenly had an urge to taste them, like someone who had been thirsty for a long time and desperately needed a drink.
Su Miao slowly tilted her head up, inching closer to that soft pink target. The person being approached didn’t move back at all.
Was Bai Jin’s kiss sweet?
“Sister Su Miao, I’m back!”
Xu Qingqing swiped the key card and walked right in. As soon as she entered, she saw the two of them about to kiss and immediately froze.
Was I here at the wrong time?
Su Miao’s movement stopped, and her mind cleared up. She awkwardly tried to back away, but Bai Jin held her head, preventing her from moving.
“Don’t move.”
Bai Jin was styling Su Miao’s hair. Soon, she had it in a small bun, leaving some bangs on her forehead. She looked both relaxed and elegant.
“Done.”
After finishing her hair, Bai Jin leaned back slightly, taking in her appearance again.
The frozen Xu Qingqing seemed to have unfrozen and finally recovered. She looked at Su Miao and said, “Su Miao, you look so good in this dress. It’s different from your usual casual style, but you wear it so well.”
Su Miao had just come to her senses, and her mind was still a mess, still reliving the moment she was about to kiss Bai Jin.
Hearing Xu Qingqing’s praise, Su Miao smiled and said “thank you.”
She nervously glanced at Bai Jin. Her expression didn’t show much, but the blush on her ears betrayed her.
So Bai Jin also reacted when she got close.
Su Miao felt a secret joy in her heart and took the initiative. “Bai Jin, do I look good?”
Bai Jin’s pupils constricted in surprise. She quickly recovered and said, “You look very good.”
Su Miao smiled mysteriously. “After all, you picked it.”
You picked the dress, and you picked the person too.
Bai Jin seemed to understand what she meant. Her ears turned even redder, and she unconsciously looked away.
Su Miao was even happier. It was like she had discovered a new continent; Bai Jin could also be shy.
Xu Qingqing was watching from the side, not knowing whether to stay or go. She had worked with Bai Jin for so many years, and this was the first time she had seen Bai Jin being teased by her own artist.
And this was also the first time Su Miao, who was usually gentle, well-behaved, and sensible, had a mischievous smile on her face.
She was like a playful cat, lightly scratching her owner. It didn’t hurt, but it made their heart flutter.
“Alright, it’s getting late. Let’s rest,” Bai Jin said, standing up and walking straight out of the room.
Xu Qingqing also said goodbye to Su Miao and followed her out.
Su Miao looked at the direction Bai Jin had left, feeling unsatisfied.
This time, Bai Jin was the one who fled.
Su Miao slept especially soundly that night.
The next two days of filming went exceptionally smoothly for Su Miao. She wrapped up her scenes by noon on the second day.
The crew gave Su Miao flowers. She took a picture with the director and with the male lead, Song Zhicheng. She was supposed to take a picture with Zhang Bingyue, but she couldn’t be found, so she had to give up.
After leaving the set, Su Miao was exceptionally excited. She was finally done with work!
“Don’t get too excited. There’s a gala tonight, and it won’t be easy,” Bai Jin reminded her not to let her guard down.
“Huh?” Su Miao was confused. She always thought of the gala as a company’s year-end summary meeting, at most a chance for everyone to show off their achievements.
“Wherever there are people, there will be comparison,” Bai Jin said. “Everyone is in the entertainment industry. Even within the same company, conflicts happen. I remember at last year’s annual meeting, two young actresses got into an argument over a role and ended up throwing red wine at each other.”
After Bai Jin’s reminder, Su Miao realized that the gala was secretly full of turmoil.
“I know. I won’t cause any trouble.”
Su Miao’s principle in life was that as long as no one bothered her, she would never take the initiative to attack.
The gala was held at a theater in the city center. Bai Jin first took Su Miao to the dressing room.
“I have to go handle something. Xu Qingqing will take you in,” Bai Jin said, giving a few instructions to Xu Qingqing before she left.
Su Miao sat quietly and let the makeup artist apply her makeup. This time, the makeup artist gave her a slightly heavier makeup to highlight her beautiful features and the depth of her eyes. It was suitable for a gala and went well with her dress.
After her makeup was done, the makeup artist couldn’t help but ask to take a picture with Su Miao, saying it was the most perfect makeup she had ever done. Of course, this was also because of Su Miao’s beautiful features.
“Sister Su Miao, let’s wait a little longer before we go out. It hasn’t started yet,” Xu Qingqing said, leading Su Miao to an empty seat in the dressing room, leaving the space for other artists to get their makeup done.
“Su Miao?”
A familiar voice rang out. Before Su Miao even looked up, she knew it was Chen Yin, her roommate for three years.
She stood up happily and looked at Chen Yin. “Long time no see.”
Chen Yin looked Su Miao up and down and said, “Looks like you’re doing well, CEO Su. You’re even wearing haute couture. When are you going to take me with you?”
As she spoke, she rubbed her hands together, looking expectant.
Su Miao walked over and gave her a big hug. “What are you talking about? I’m still waiting for our big manager Chen to take me under her wing.”
“Hey, I can’t live up to being a big manager. Your manager is the real deal,” Chen Yin said. Her idol was also Bai Jin, and she wanted to be a great manager like her.
It wasn’t a good idea to catch up in public, so Chen Yin took her and Xu Qingqing to a small lounge.
“It’s better to talk when there are fewer people. Otherwise, being next to a beauty like you, I’ll constantly be stared at. It’s a little uncomfortable,” Chen Yin said, getting herself a cup of coffee and also grabbing one for Su Miao.
“Oh, right. Did you hear? An Yixin is interested in coming back to Zui Xing.”
“Huh?”
Su Miao was a little surprised. There were only two possibilities for someone who had left to want to return to their original company: either Zui Xing had extended an olive branch to her, or there was someone here she couldn’t let go of.
“But it’s normal that you don’t know. It’s internal news. Until it’s confirmed, it’s just a rumor.” Chen Yin had only heard it by chance from a manager’s meeting.
“True. Some rumors become true as they spread.”
Su Miao said this with a smile, but she was still a little worried.
She was afraid they would work together again.
She was afraid she would be abandoned.
Chen Yin saw a hint of sadness on Su Miao’s face and thought of Bai Jin. She didn’t know if Su Miao and Bai Jin had made any progress, but seeing her like this, it wasn’t the time for gossip. So she started talking about their other roommates’ recent developments.
Xu Zhiyue had started transitioning into short films, and the market was huge and promising. Yang Yueyue and Qin Ying were still struggling at the bottom of the entertainment industry, filming minor roles.
Looking at it this way, she was truly one of the lucky ones.
