Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 39
Chapter 39: She Was Brought Here by Me
Su Miao’s pupils widened slightly, and there was a look of shock in her eyes, but she still kept a smile on her face.
Despite her surprise, there was no sign of discontent.
She trusted Bai Jin one hundred percent. She could almost guess that Bai Jin had her reasons for doing this.
“Alright, then there’s no need for the performance. Su Miao, you can go back first.”
This unexpected turn of events made the host a little awkward. Since Su Miao didn’t win, she naturally didn’t have to perform.
Su Miao returned to her seat and watched the rest of the draw.
After the gala ended, Su Miao received a text message telling her not to leave just yet.
Bai Jin didn’t say where they would meet, so Su Miao simply walked out of the banquet hall to look around. As she was passing a corridor, she heard the sound of high heels.
And Bai Jin’s voice.
Bai Jin said, “You put that ball in, didn’t you? Su Miao’s name wasn’t supposed to be in there.”
It was clear that Bai Jin was a little angry.
Another female voice said, “I just wanted to see what kind of new artist you chose this time. Turns out, she’s such a cute girl.”
“So, you really like this type?”
Eavesdropping was wrong, but she had already heard half of it, and it would be a shame to give up now. Su Miao was a little excited to hear what Bai Jin would say next.
But before Su Miao could hear Bai Jin’s answer, she heard their footsteps getting closer. She instinctively wanted to run away, but it seemed to be too late.
Just a corner away, Su Miao was caught red-handed.
Su Miao felt a little overwhelmed facing the gazes of both of them.
“Um, I was just walking around here, waiting for you,” Su Miao said, her voice getting quieter and quieter as she spoke, a little guiltily.
“Sister, didn’t I tell you? She really is very cute.”
The woman next to her actually called Bai Jin “sister”?
Su Miao looked closely. She remembered seeing this person somewhere before, possibly on the stage, sitting in a leadership position.
But she called Bai Jin “sister”?
In her memory, Bai Jin didn’t have a sister.
Seeing the look of confusion on Su Miao’s face, Bai Jin introduced her. “This is Zui Xing Entertainment’s CEO, Bai Zhen.”
The CEO? And her last name is Bai?
Su Miao’s eyes widened. She wasn’t shocked that the CEO was Bai Zhen, but that Bai Jin was Bai Zhen’s sister.
And during her school years, Su Miao had never known that Bai Jin had a sister.
“Su Miao,” Bai Jin called out her name softly, seeing that she was spacing out.
“Oh, hello, CEO Bai,” Su Miao said numbly, greeting her boss.
“You really are cute. Let me introduce myself. My name is Bai Zhen, Bai Jin’s younger sister.”
Bai Zhen’s eyes curved into a smile, and she had two small dimples. She looked harmless. Who would have thought that she was the CEO of Zui Xing Entertainment, known as a star-making factory?
“Since we’ve run into each other, why don’t we bring Su Miao along?” Bai Zhen looked at her with interest.
Su Miao belatedly realized that the smile on her face might just be a cover for other emotions.
“You have to ask for her opinion,” Bai Jin said, giving the choice to Su Miao.
“Huh?” Su Miao didn’t understand what they meant.
Bai Zhen took a step forward, directly hooked her arm with Su Miao’s, and pulled her along. “Come on, come on. It’ll be so much fun with you there.”
Su Miao turned her head to look at Bai Jin for help.
She saw Bai Jin frown and shake her head at her.
Su Miao was led to Bai Zhen’s private car. Bai Zhen then opened the other side of the door and gestured for Bai Jin to get in.
Bai Jin did as she was told and sat next to Su Miao.
Bai Zhen said to the driver, “Donglin Club.”
Is that a private club?
Su Miao felt a little uneasy. She had never been to a place like that.
She looked at Bai Jin again, only to find that Bai Jin was also looking at her. As their eyes met, Su Miao mouthed, “What should I do?”
Bai Jin smiled radiantly. “It’s fine.”
“What are you two whispering about?” Bai Zhen suddenly turned her head to look at them. “I just returned to the country, and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen my sister and my friends here. We’re all having a good time tonight, which is why we’re having a second party.”
Su Miao knew she was explaining things to her and quickly said with a smile, “I understand.”
“That’s good.”
When they arrived at their destination, a doorman was waiting for them and led them to a specific floor.
Bai Zhen had booked the entire floor.
As soon as she entered the room, Su Miao recognized many familiar faces. Many of them were the female artists she had seen at the gala.
Su Miao looked around and saw that everyone here was a woman.
“Hello, CEO Bai. Long time no see.” A woman still wearing a low-cut dress came over to greet Bai Zhen and gave her a big hug.
Bai Zhen gladly accepted.
Everyone in the room crowded around to talk to Bai Zhen.
Su Miao suddenly felt her wrist tighten. She was pulled by Bai Jin to a corner to sit down.
The decor was very elegant. The music from the gramophone was slow and graceful, just loud enough for everyone to hear but not so loud as to be annoying.
Su Miao was the first to speak. “Did you ask me to stay so you could bring me here?”
Bai Jin shook her head. “No. I wanted to give you the script. So you could read it tonight, but now there’s probably no time.”
So Bai Jin was definitely going to come, and she was just an unexpected addition.
Su Miao looked up at the people who were already drinking. She wondered if Bai Jin would have joined them if she wasn’t here.
“I didn’t want you to come. But I also felt like you should,” Bai Jin suddenly turned her head to look at her, her eyes filled with emotions that Su Miao couldn’t understand.
“What?” Su Miao’s eyes became confused as she tried to figure out what she meant.
Then, Bai Jin said calmly, “It’s nothing.”
A little while later, another person entered the room.
“Xinyi,” Bai Zhen greeted her.
After responding, Li Xinyi walked straight over to Bai Jin. She looked at Su Miao, then back at Bai Jin. “Is this Su Miao? Your new artist?”
Bai Jin simply hummed in response.
Li Xinyi smiled mysteriously. “Su Miao, do you know that Bai Jin doesn’t like her artists to be in places like this?”
“I didn’t know.” When she was unsure of how to react, Bai Zhen had pulled her here. She hadn’t even given her a choice.
“She was brought here by me,” Bai Jin said, giving Li Xinyi a look, as if reminding her of something.
“I see. I misunderstood. I’m sorry, Su Miao.” Li Xinyi didn’t get angry. She apologized to Su Miao with a grin.
“It’s okay.” From the moment she bumped into Bai Jin in the corridor, she had been in a daze. Her reaction was naturally a little slow.
Bai Zhen’s group was playing some kind of game, and everyone was cheering.
Only Su Miao and Bai Jin were sitting quietly in their corner.
Bai Jin had given her so many surprises today.
Especially the fact that she was the CEO Bai Zhen’s sister.
She remembered the Bai Jin from school, who always carried a faded black canvas backpack, and whose clothes were simple. It was hard to connect her to a CEO’s sister.
Did something happen that she didn’t know about?
Besides asking Bai Jin, she had no other way of knowing. But in her position, how could she ask?
Looking at the crowd having fun, Su Miao asked in a small voice, “If I weren’t here, would you go play with them?”
“No, I don’t like to play.”
Bai Jin’s answer was firm.
Su Miao’s heart finally settled down. This Bai Jin was connected to the one she remembered from school. Back then, Bai Jin was a three-good student for many years in a row, and she was as serious as she was now.
The door to the private room opened and closed, and another person walked in.
Her arrival caused everyone in the room to stop what they were doing. The noise that was there a moment ago instantly ceased.
“Hello, everyone. CEO Bai, long time no see.” After greeting Bai Zhen, An Yixin turned to Bai Jin. “Long time no see, Bai Jin.”
Su Miao’s breathing paused. A thought immediately appeared in her mind.
She was really glad she came today.
“Yixin,” Bai Zhen walked out of the crowd, went over to shake her hand, and said, “It’s been so long. You’ve become even more beautiful.”
“How could I compare to CEO Bai’s grace?”
An Yixin smiled. Before they could say a few more pleasantries, Bai Zhen pulled her to Bai Jin’s side.
Su Miao could feel Bai Jin’s emotions changing, but she wasn’t sure if it was joy from seeing an old friend or something else.
She suddenly remembered the gossip Chen Yin told her: An Yixin was interested in returning to Zui Xing. Now, it seemed to be true.
And the person at Zui Xing who worked best with her and was most likely to become her manager was only Bai Jin.
Su Miao felt a pang of pain in her heart, but she didn’t want to back down. Bai Jin was still by her side, and she wouldn’t allow herself to be so weak and leave.
“Come on, it’s been a long time since you two have seen each other,” Bai Zhen said. After bringing An Yixin over, she watched them with a gossipy look, not even wanting to play anymore. She found a seat to watch the show.
Su Miao thought that if there were sunflower seeds nearby, Bai Zhen would be happily munching on them while watching.
Li Xinyi, on the side, really did pull out a handful of sunflower seeds from who knows where and gave half of them to Bai Zhen. The two of them watched the show together.
“CEO Bai, I actually only met Bai Jin not long ago. It was on the set of the show that Ning Yu and I were filming,” An Yixin said. She knew everyone was watching her, but she wasn’t flustered. Her demeanor was still as elegant as ever.
“Then it seems I’m a little out of the loop since I just got back to the country,” CEO Bai said, stopping what she was doing and offering a drink.
And the other main character here, Bai Jin, didn’t say a word. She just sat there quietly, as if what was happening around her had nothing to do with her.
An Yixin found an empty seat and sat down. “But there was an accident during that scene, and Ning Yu got injured. Thanks to Bai Jin’s mediation, we were able to finish filming smoothly. I’m very grateful to her.”
With that, she took two glasses of wine and handed one to Bai Jin. “I’d like to propose a toast.”
“It’s part of my job,” Bai Jin said. Although she said this, not drinking it would be rude, so she took the glass and drank it all in one go.
An Yixin also finished her glass.
Isn’t that just a manager doing their job?
Su Miao watched them finish their drinks and said nothing more.
