Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: I’m Not Considering It
Everyone’s eyes were focused on them, but the two protagonists sat on opposite sides, not bothering each other.
Bai Zhen didn’t want the atmosphere to be awkward, so she tapped the wooden table with her index finger and said, “How about we play a game? Do you know how to play ‘Liar’s Dice’?”
After she spoke, she scanned the people at the table.
Li Xinyi nodded and said, “Okay.”
An Yixin also agreed.
Only Su Miao and Bai Jin were left. They were sitting together.
“I think I’ll sit this one out,” Su Miao said. She had seen her friends play the game at parties and understood the rules, but someone was already pouring drinks. This was a drinking game, and she didn’t dare to play.
If she passed out here, who knew what would happen.
“It’s okay. You can play with Bai Jin. Let your manager teach you,” Bai Zhen said, emphasizing the word “manager.” She looked at Bai Jin, and the two exchanged a glance. Bai Jin nodded, agreeing.
An Yixin finally looked at Su Miao, then quickly looked away. She had a constant smile on her face, and no one could tell what she was thinking.
Su Miao felt a little uneasy. She didn’t have much experience with drinking games, and her luck had always been bad. With this game, she was more likely to lose than win.
She looked at Bai Jin, a little guiltily, and said, “Why don’t you play? I’ll just watch from the side.”
“No, you play,” Bai Jin said, patting her on the shoulder. She looked at her with a firm gaze. “Don’t be nervous.”
Su Miao looked at the shoulder that Bai Jin’s palm had touched and inexplicably felt more confident.
The first round of dice. Bai Zhen was the first to call out three ones.
Su Miao secretly let out a sigh of relief. At least the first person didn’t call a high number.
She looked at her own dice: one one, two threes, one four, and one six.
Without changing her expression, she calmly said, “Four ones.”
This was the safest call, following the previous person, which was a gamble that they were telling the truth.
As expected, no one questioned her call. It was Li Xinyi’s turn.
She smiled mysteriously and said, “Four fours.”
Su Miao’s hand trembled a little. She had a four in her hand, so it wasn’t a good idea to challenge her.
An Yixin waited for a while. Seeing that no one was going to challenge, she calmly said, “Three sixes.”
It was only the first round, and they were already at sixes.
Su Miao felt her heart pounding.
“Four sixes.”
Bai Zhen immediately followed An Yixin’s call. She didn’t even check her own dice.
Su Miao had a six in her hand. She didn’t dare to gamble. There was one six each, which was enough for four sixes. So she could only resign herself and call out, “Five sixes.”
“Challenge!” Bai Zhen was just waiting for Su Miao to call a number she could challenge.
Su Miao helplessly opened her dice cup. She only had one six.
An Yixin and Li Xinyi also had one six each, and Bai Zhen also had one six.
The challenge was successful. Su Miao had to drink a penalty.
Li Xinyi pushed a wine glass full of hard liquor in front of Su Miao.
Before it even reached her lips, Su Miao could smell the strong scent of alcohol.
She estimated that after one cup, she would be out until tomorrow afternoon.
She reached for the glass, but a long, slender hand took the glass before she could.
Facing everyone’s confused looks, Bai Jin said calmly, “I’ll drink for her.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she tilted her head back and drank it all in one go.
After she finished, she casually put the glass aside. Her movements were clean and decisive.
Su Miao watched her, wanting to stop her, but she was intimidated by her look.
The first round passed just like that.
Su Miao looked at the wine glasses on the table and suddenly felt worried. With her luck, she didn’t know how much she would make Bai Jin drink.
“Don’t worry, I can drink,” Bai Jin said, seeing Su Miao’s eyebrows knitted. She gently ran her index finger over Su Miao’s brows until they were smooth again, then took her hand away.
The gesture, like a caress, shocked everyone in the room.
Su Miao was also too stunned to react, but her face flushed red.
Bai Jin’s expression didn’t change even after drinking, but Su Miao was more intoxicated by her single gesture than by any alcohol.
An Yixin broke the stalemate. She suddenly picked up a glass of wine and drank it herself. It seemed she wanted to drink it all in one go, but she choked on the first sip and coughed violently. Her entire face turned red.
The series of events made everyone feel the subtle atmosphere.
There was a stalemate, and everyone waited for someone to break it.
In the end, it was Bai Zhen who spoke first. “Come on, let’s start the next round.”
She looked at everyone and saw that they were all willing to continue the game before she joined in.
Having learned from her mistake in the first round, Su Miao called a high number on her first turn, immediately trapping An Yixin, who was after her.
An Yixin drank another glass. This time, she seemed prepared. She didn’t choke when she drank, but her face turned a little redder.
After a few rounds, Su Miao still lost three times, and Bai Jin drank three more glasses.
Su Miao looked at her with concern. Her expression was as normal as ever, without a hint of emotion.
She had unbuttoned two buttons of her shirt, revealing her delicate collarbones and a necklace.
The necklace’s chain was a little long, and not much was exposed at her chest. Su Miao couldn’t see what was hanging from it.
“Bai Jin, let’s not play anymore, okay?” Su Miao felt bad for Bai Jin. She subtly moved her right hand to Bai Jin’s sleeve and shook it like a child throwing a tantrum.
Seeing this, Bai Jin nodded at her, then looked at Bai Zhen. “I’ve had my fill of drinks for tonight. You guys can continue.”
Bai Zhen understood and pulled the others to another area to play. Only Bai Jin and Su Miao remained here, along with An Yixin, who was sitting on the other side.
An Yixin was a little dizzy from the alcohol. She leaned back on the sofa, her eyes occasionally falling on Bai Jin and Su Miao.
“Have you considered it?” An Yixin was the first to speak. Her eyes were fixed on Bai Jin. Her face was flushed, but her eyes were soft.
Consider what?
Is there something else she doesn’t know about?
Su Miao’s heart skipped a beat. She looked at An Yixin with a puzzled expression, but the other woman didn’t even glance at her.
Bai Jin said bluntly, “I’m not considering it.”
An Yixin gave a self-deprecating smile, and a string of tears fell down her face, dripping onto her dress. “Is it really not going to happen? You won’t even give me one chance.”
Su Miao had seen An Yixin’s performances before. Her crying scenes were once praised as the most beautiful. When she cried, the tears fell one by one like little pearls. Now that she was seeing her cry in person, even Su Miao felt a little moved.
“I came here today just for you,” An Yixin said, looking at Su Miao, then suddenly smiled. “You didn’t just bring one artist, did you?”
Su Miao was mentioned out of nowhere and could only pretend that everything was fine, looking at Bai Jin.
She didn’t understand, but she really wanted to.
They were talking in riddles, with no context.
Bai Jin didn’t reply to her. Instead, she stood up and said, “Let’s go. It’s getting late. We need to get back. You’ll be joining the crew the day after tomorrow, and you don’t have much time to prepare.”
Su Miao was stunned for a few seconds. It wasn’t until she met Bai Jin’s gaze that she realized Bai Jin was talking to her. She quickly stood up and followed her.
Even after drinking a few glasses of hard liquor, Bai Jin was walking without a single wobble. Su Miao couldn’t help but sigh, wishing she had such a good tolerance for alcohol.
They had come in Bai Zhen’s car, so they had to take a taxi back.
In the taxi, Su Miao looked at Bai Jin.
At this close distance, Su Miao realized that Bai Jin’s ears were a little red.
Just like the last time she teased Bai Jin.
“What are you looking at?”
Bai Jin turned to look at her. The distance between them was very close. Su Miao could smell the faint scent of perfume mixed with alcohol on her.
Su Miao felt a little tipsy from the smell and suddenly blurted out, “I’m looking at you.”
The atmosphere between them became subtly awkward. Bai Jin looked away and stared out the window.
Su Miao knew she had said the wrong thing and turned to look outside as well, tapping her index finger on the car window.
She cursed herself in her mind. Why did she blurt out her thoughts like that? It made things so awkward between them.
From what she had just seen, she couldn’t believe that An Yixin had no feelings for Bai Jin.
Since becoming a manager, Bai Jin had only managed two female artists: her and An Yixin. Both of them had fallen for her.
Bai Jin’s charm was truly something else.
Sigh. She remembered that back in school, Bai Jin was already very famous.
She was good-looking and had good grades. She was everyone’s goal.
Of course, she was also her goal.
It was a shame she couldn’t win Bai Jin over in school. Sticking to the principle of being a loyal person, her goal was still Bai Jin now that she was working.
It was already the middle of the night when they arrived at the hotel.
Su Miao didn’t know when she had fallen asleep, her head resting on Bai Jin’s shoulder.
It was Bai Jin who patted her awake, and she realized they had arrived.
“How did I fall asleep?” Su Miao sat up, her eyes still hazy. The sleepiness hadn’t worn off yet.
“We’re at the hotel. Go back to your room and rest.”
Seeing that she was still wearing a dress and high heels, Bai Jin was a little worried. She carefully helped her out of the car and walked toward the hotel.
Su Miao’s room was next to Bai Jin’s. Xu Qingqing’s was next to hers.
Bai Jin had Xu Qingqing book the hotel in advance. They would be heading straight to the set the next day.
After walking for a bit, Su Miao gradually sobered up.
Su Miao said, “Bai Jin, can you give me the script first?”
Bai Jin looked at her and saw that her eyes were clear again.
“I’ll give it to you tomorrow. It’s already past 3 AM. What you need to do now is rest and get some energy back,” Bai Jin refused her request directly.
Su Miao still didn’t give up. “Then I can just have it. I’ll read a little bit before I sleep. It’s my first time playing a female second lead, and I’m joining the crew tomorrow. I want to be prepared in advance.”
Seeing her persistence, Bai Jin no longer stopped her. She went into her room, grabbed the script, and gave it to her.
Su Miao took the script and hugged it with a smile.
