Oh No, My Tail Has Been Seen! - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
â—ŽWho is Bai Jin?â—Ž
“Fine, I’ll let it go this time since you’re paying for it,” Qin Ying said. She had been watching Su Miao’s expression the whole time and noticed that her face had changed when she heard the question. It was clear that she didn’t want too many people to know about it. As a friend, she was curious, but she decided to suppress her curiosity.
After a few more rounds of the game, everyone was a little tipsy, and the game stopped. Lin Xin went over and took the microphone to sing, saying she wanted to vent her work frustrations. After yelling at her manager through the mic, she started howling randomly.
Chen Yin and Xu Yuezhi, both a little tipsy, were still sandwiching Su Miao, clinking their glasses in front of her.
“You don’t have to drink your ceremonial wine over me,” Su Miao said, trying to move away. She accidentally bumped their arms, and some of the wine in their glasses spilled. A few drops landed in the cup in front of Su Miao.
Seeing Su Miao trying to leave, the two became more persistent, pulling her in to clink glasses and drink with them.
“Miao Miao, just one cup. It’s just a soft drink. You can just go to the bathroom more later,” Chen Yin said, getting caught up in the atmosphere.
“We don’t know when we’ll get together again. Don’t even think about escaping,” Xu Yuezhi said, holding onto Su Miao. After a few rounds of drinking, her face was flushed. She was naturally a cute girl, and her soft, pouting voice was hard to refuse.
Su Miao looked at the other glasses on the table, all of which contained alcohol. Only her drink was completely non-alcoholic, with just two drops of wine in it. She frowned, hesitating. But the two drunks next to her were in high spirits, and she didn’t want to spoil their fun.
Just two drops of alcohol, it should be fine, right? With that thought, Su Miao picked up the drink in front of her.
“Cheers, let’s toast,” Chen Yin said, now quite drunk and her voice much louder. The roommate who was singing also came over. Together, they raised their glasses and drank.
“Here’s to our dorm becoming famous and having endless work and endorsements.” The six of them clinked glasses and drank their drinks in one go. Su Miao also finished the drink in her hand. She had drunk a lot and her stomach felt uncomfortably full, so she didn’t order another and just sat back on the sofa, watching them have fun.
Just the few of them playing got a bit boring after a while, so after asking Su Miao, Qin Ying called a few other friends to come over.
Looking at the flashing lights in front of her, Su Miao suddenly felt a moment of dizziness. Was she drunk? But it was only a few drops. The last time she drank was when she secretly tried some red wine at home. She had drunk half a bottle and then fainted. When she woke up, she was lying in the swimming pool at home.
Tong Yao was sitting by the pool, looking at her innocently. “Sister, you said you were going to swim home. And you’ve been swimming about ten laps here…” It was the first time Su Miao had seen such a look of concern in the child’s eyes.
It was okay to act crazy at home, but here, in public, she was afraid she might unconsciously reveal her identity as a mermaid. Mermaids had to hide their identities to coexist peacefully with humans. She couldn’t even imagine what would happen if humans found out about the existence of mermaids. Would they be welcomed or driven away? These were not things that a small fish like her could figure out.
Su Miao pulled Chen Yin closer and said seriously, “I’m not feeling well. I’m going back first. I’ve already told the owner to just charge it to my account. You guys can keep playing.” Chen Yin was probably a little out of it. She nodded, seeming to understand and also noticing that something was off with Su Miao. “Go back quickly, and be careful.”
Su Miao nodded and immediately ran towards the door. She remembered the door was on the left. Su Miao rushed down the left hallway. There was a bright door with a small figure in a dress on it. Her head was getting dizzier and dizzier, and she didn’t have the capacity to think about these strange things. The driver would be waiting for her at the door as usual. All she had to do was find the driver to go home.
The moment she crossed the doorway, Su Miao was already stumbling. Running down this hallway seemed to have used up all her strength, and her legs gave out, causing her to fall to the ground. Just as her knees were about to hit the floor, a pair of strong hands wrapped around her shoulders, and someone ran in front of her and held her.
“Su Miao.”
“Wake up.”
In her last glance, Su Miao looked up and saw half of the face of the person holding her. Her full red lips were tightly pursed, and her jawline was sharp. Hmm, she must be quite good-looking, but definitely not as good-looking as me.
Pfft. Thinking of this, Su Miao couldn’t help but laugh.
Bai Jin recognized the drunk Su Miao at first glance. She was a little surprised. The two of them had just said good night to each other, and now they were both at a bar. And one of them was completely drunk and unconscious.
Su Miao was now completely slumped in her arms, and Bai Jin couldn’t help but frown. She had just signed with an agency, and her career had just started, and she was already not caring about her image? She wasn’t afraid of the paparazzi taking pictures that would become future scandals. Besides, this was a bar, and there were many potential dangers when drunk.
Bai Jin was a little displeased, but since Su Miao was the artist she chose, it was her responsibility to take care of her. She couldn’t just leave Su Miao here.
Su Miao was in a daze, only feeling that she was in a warm embrace, and the person easily picked her up in their arms. When she was looking at her resume, Bai Jin had noted Su Miao’s family home. She didn’t need to look at the information again. After putting Su Miao in the passenger seat, she set the navigation to her house.
“I want to go home,” Su Miao murmured with her eyes closed. She had only put on light makeup before going out, which couldn’t hide the flushed color from drinking. Her hair, which had been tied up, was now messy, with strands falling on her forehead. Combined with her delicate and dazed face, Bai Jin felt it was quite tempting.
She silently looked away, wanting to get her home as soon as possible. Just as she was about to start the car, the system immediately reminded her that the passenger seat’s seatbelt was not fastened. Bai Jin looked at Su Miao again. She seemed to be asleep, sitting still with her eyes closed. She couldn’t expect her to fasten her own seatbelt.
So, Bai Jin unbuckled her own seatbelt, bent over towards her, and reached for the seatbelt on the other side. When she was very close to Su Miao’s face, she could even feel her steady breathing.
“Mmm.” Su Miao felt as if her nose was being brushed by a feather. It was a ticklish sensation, and she instinctively turned her face to avoid it. The next moment, she felt the tip of her nose touch something soft.
Bai Jin froze. The spot on her cheek that Su Miao had touched was still warm, a temperature transferred from the other person. She didn’t pause for long. Instead, her movements to pull the seatbelt were faster. She flawlessly fastened the seatbelt for Su Miao. After fastening her own seatbelt, Bai Jin drove Su Miao home.
When she arrived at the Su family’s house, Bai Jin rang the doorbell, and a butler and a girl came out to greet them.
“Sister Su Miao.” Tong Yao hurried over, wanting to hug Su Miao, but she realized she might not be strong enough and pouted as she stepped back two paces. The butler went over and helped take Su Miao. “Thank you, ma’am, for bringing Miss home.”
“You’re welcome.” Bai Jin gave one last look at the still-drunk Su Miao, then turned and left.
“How can you drink outside? What if you accidentally show your tail to humans?” Tong Yao followed the butler back to Su Miao’s room, her words full of worry.
“Miss knows what she’s doing,” the butler said, placing Su Miao back on the bed. “I’ll go brew some hangover tea. I might need your help to feed it to her later, Miss Tong.”
How can she have a sense of propriety when she’s drunk? Although she was a bit anxious, Tong Yao nodded and immediately agreed to the butler’s request.
She stayed by Su Miao’s bedside obediently, not daring to leave. The last time she left, Su Miao jumped into the swimming pool, and she didn’t even have a chance to feed her the hangover tea. She had to wake up on her own.
“Bai Jin…” The person on the bed started muttering a name, repeating it several times. Tong Yao quickly leaned her ear closer and heard the name clearly.
Who is Bai Jin? It was the first time Tong Yao had heard those two words from Su Miao’s mouth. She made a mental note to ask about the name tomorrow. But then again, she had forgotten to ask for the name of the woman who brought Su Miao home.
After feeding Su Miao the hangover tea, Tong Yao saw that she had calmed down and was no longer calling out anyone’s name. Usually, drinking the tea would quickly sober her up and help her fall asleep. Tong Yao felt relieved and went back to her room to rest.
The next day, Su Miao woke up groggily and instinctively reached for her phone, which she usually kept next to her pillow, but she felt her bag instead. She didn’t have a habit of putting her bag on the bed.
She froze for a few seconds and then remembered that it was the bag she had carried when she went to the bar last night. She had accidentally had some alcohol, and the world had started spinning, so she had rushed to the ladies’ room. Then, she had bumped into someone. Who was it? Su Miao gently patted her head, but she couldn’t remember. There should be messages on her phone.
She hadn’t touched her phone all night. Su Miao opened WeChat, and the entire page was filled with red dots. Most of them were from people who had heard she was signed by Bai Jin and were congratulating her. The rest were messages from her dorm group chat, checking in to see if everyone had gotten home safely. It seemed everyone had made it home okay.
She read through the chat, and no one mentioned how she got home. Just as she was wondering, her eyes caught the time. It was already 4:30 PM.
She instantly sobered up, and her brain started calculating. It would take at least an hour and a half to get from her house to the company. By the time she arrived, it would be after work hours, and she couldn’t possibly make Bai Jin work overtime. She couldn’t make it to the signing today. When she agreed to go out yesterday, she never thought she would get drunk.
Sigh. Su Miao started to feel annoyed at herself. After a moment of hesitation, she still dialed Bai Jin’s number.
“Bai Jin, I probably can’t come to sign the contract today.”
“Hmm, have you sobered up?”
