Omega, Always Wants to Mark Me - Chapter 10
Ming Xiaoyue ignored Lu Jinxi’s pleas and continued to unseal the inhibitor. When the cold needle touched Lu Jinxi’s finger, her body instinctively recoiled.
“Lu Jinxi,” Ming Xiaoyue said, pausing her actions. “Why did you lie to me earlier?”
Lu Jinxi pressed her lips together, refusing to answer.
Ming Xiaoyue seemed unsurprised by Lu Jinxi’s silence. She ultimately withdrew the inhibitor without injecting it, leaning down to place it on the table before stepping back.
“Lu Jinxi,” she continued, her gaze burning into Lu Jinxi’s back. Lu Jinxi unconsciously straightened her posture.
“I despise deception. Zero tolerance. You helped me yesterday, but that doesn’t excuse your lies. So, when we return to the girl group variety show, please conduct yourself with dignity!”
With that, Ming Xiaoyue snatched her laptop, strode to the bed, and completely ignored Lu Jinxi on the sofa.
The only sound in the room was the faint clicking of the mouse.
Lu Jinxi bit her lower lip, her eyes flickering slightly. Her hands had clenched into fists without her realizing it.
After an indeterminate amount of time, the mouse clicks gradually faded. Then came the rustling of clothes and the soft footsteps drawing closer.
“Let’s go. It’s time to head back,” Ming Xiaoyue said, standing a few steps away.
“Ming Xiaoyue,” Lu Jinxi said, finally lifting her head to meet her gaze. Their eyes locked. Ming Xiaoyue, seeing the determination in Lu Jinxi’s eyes, frowned, her impatience barely concealed.
“What? Is there something else?” Her tone was sharp with impatience.
“I’m sorry. I lied. I apologize,” Lu Jinxi said, suddenly grabbing the inhibitor from the table. With lightning speed, she plunged the needle into the gland at the back of her neck, the motion swift and precise.
By the time Ming Xiaoyue reacted, her face contorted in shock as she rushed forward, the inhibitor in Lu Jinxi’s hand was already empty.
“Are you insane?!” Ming Xiaoyue yanked Lu Jinxi’s hand away.
“Ugh…” Lu Jinxi gasped, her body curling into a fetal position. The empty inhibitor syringe clattered to the floor and shattered.
“I… I’m sorry,” Lu Jinxi murmured, her eyes unfocused but her grip on Ming Xiaoyue’s hand remained firm.
Feeling Lu Jinxi’s icy hand, Ming Xiaoyue cradled her head and examined the back of her neck. The already swollen gland was now even more distended, as if something were about to burst through.
“Ming Xiaoyue… I… truly… didn’t mean… to deceive you,” Lu Jinxi murmured intermittently, her rationality clearly slipping.
For the first time in two lifetimes, Ming Xiaoyue had encountered an Alpha who would harm herself so ruthlessly. Had Lu Jinxi gone mad?
Alpha Inhibitors were designed to suppress heat cycles, boasting potent effects but also significant side effects. The first line on the packaging warned: “Do not use outside of heat cycles.”
Did this woman lack common sense, or…?
“Enough! Don’t speak anymore!” Ming Xiaoyue snapped coldly, her tone sharp.
Lu Jinxi was always the same, no matter the situation. Even when she had teased Lu Jinxi before, she had worn a mask—one of feigned loathing.
But now, Ming Xiaoyue’s true feelings were laid bare. She swore that if Lu Jinxi uttered another word of this nonsense, she would lose control and strike someone who was already self-destructing.
However, Lu Jinxi had clearly reached her limit. She had been reverse-marked by an Omega in recent days, briefly induced into heat yesterday, and now, outside of heat, had injected an inhibitor.
Before Ming Xiaoyue could finish her furious retort, Lu Jinxi collapsed into unconsciousness.
Ming Xiaoyue stared at the unconscious Lu Jinxi, her expression conflicted. Though neither of them were major celebrities, they were still public figures. If an ambulance arrived, Ming Xiaoyue shuddered to imagine the tabloid headlines that would inevitably follow.
But when Ming Xiaoyue touched Lu Jinxi’s face again, the previously ice-cold skin was now flushed crimson.
Earlier, Ming Xiaoyue had been uncertain. Now, as she nearly wanted to bite the Alpha to death, she realized: she and Lu Jinxi were truly incompatible!
Whether in her past life or this one, it was undeniable!
Ming Xiaoyue gritted her teeth, glaring at the unconscious Lu Jinxi. “You really can’t stand to see me debut in either lifetime, can you?!” she hissed.
Despite her words, Ming Xiaoyue dialed the emergency number.
As expected, reporters swarmed the scene the moment medical personnel arrived. Fortunately, Ming Xiaoyue had come prepared, pulling on a hat and sunglasses.
But when Lu Jinxi was carried out on a stretcher, the paramedics struggled to push through the crowd, shouting, “Make way! Make way!”
The reporters, like sharks smelling bl00d, refused to budge, snapping photos of Lu Jinxi relentlessly.
Ming Xiaoyue stood nearby, tugging at the brim of her hat, but the cameras were already swarming around her.
“Miss Ming! What’s the situation? Did Miss Lu Jinxi collapse from overwork, or…?”
“Miss Ming! So, did you and Miss Lu actually fall in love for real during filming?!”
“Miss Ming, did this happen because your pheromones are incompatible?”
“Miss Ming, please…”
Ming Xiaoyue clamped her mouth shut, refusing to answer a single question from the barrage of cameras and microphones.
Fortunately, hotel security arrived promptly. After all, no one wanted a public figure to die on their premises.
Once the crowd was cleared, Ming Xiaoyue hurried after the medical personnel and boarded the ambulance.
She hadn’t expected the reporters to be so relentless. As soon as they exited the ambulance at the hospital, the paparazzi swarmed them again, joined by curious onlookers and fans.
The scene descended into chaos. Ming Xiaoyue couldn’t even tell whose hands were grabbing at her and her entourage.
“Miss Ming! What happened to Lu Jinxi?! Please give us a statement!”
“Miss Ming, is Miss Lu’s current condition your fault?”
Just as the situation was spiraling completely out of control, and even the hospital security couldn’t clear a path, a sudden commotion erupted in the distance.
Then, a group of highly trained men in black suits forcibly carved a path through the crowd.
As more black-suited figures poured in, they formed a human barricade, creating a clear passage.
The medical staff were stunned, and Ming Xiaoyue, witnessing such an overwhelming display of force, would have been frozen in place had she not been accustomed to grand spectacles from her previous life.
“Move!” Ming Xiaoyue snapped, urging the medical staff beside her into action.
The others finally snapped out of their daze and rushed Lu Jinxi into the emergency room.
As they moved through the corridor, it felt as if the area had been completely cleared. Ming Xiaoyue hadn’t noticed this when she first arrived, but now, with the corridor eerily deserted except for her, she sensed something was amiss.
Sure enough, moments later, the rhythmic tapping of a cane against the floor gradually approached from the distance.
Ming Xiaoyue turned to see an elderly man with neatly combed silver hair, his face deeply etched with the lines of age. Though he leaned on a cane, each step he took was steady and powerful.
His back was ramrod straight, a trait he shared with Lu Jinxi. When their eyes met, his piercing gaze seemed to penetrate Ming Xiaoyue’s very soul, leaving her nowhere to hide.
Unconsciously, Ming Xiaoyue braced herself as if facing a formidable enemy, her expression turning serious, yet showing no sign of backing down.
The moment Lu Zhengqing stopped, Ming Xiaoyue spoke politely, “Grandfather.”
“You know who I am?” His robust voice carried a commanding presence, showing no hint of his advanced age.
“You must be Lu Jinxi’s family,” Ming Xiaoyue replied.
“Hmph,” Lu Zhengqing scoffed coldly at the mention of Lu Jinxi’s name.
“So, what exactly happened to Lu Jinxi? Hmm?!” Lu Zhengqing demanded, his gaze sharp and accusatory.
Ming Xiaoyue hesitated, unsure how to answer. Regardless of the circumstances, the fact that Lu Jinxi was now in the emergency room was undeniably her responsibility.
“I’m sorry,” Ming Xiaoyue said sincerely.
“Hmph!” Lu Zhengqing turned his head away, refusing to accept her apology.
Ming Xiaoyue bit her lower lip, hesitated for a moment, then knelt down stiffly. “I’m sorry,” she said. “It was indeed my fault. I apologize.”
Lu Zhengqing looked down at the kneeling Ming Xiaoyue, his expression shifting slightly.
“Alright, get up,” Lu Zhengqing said, signaling to the bodyguard beside him. The bodyguard hurried to help Ming Xiaoyue to her feet.
Just as Ming Xiaoyue stood up, the doctor rushed over, heading straight for Lu Zhengqing. Even before reaching him, he reported, “Old Master Lu, Miss Lu is not in life-threatening danger. It appears she was accidentally injected with an Alpha Inhibitor. We’ve diluted the dosage with medication.”
“Hmm,” Lu Zhengqing replied, his expression unchanged.
“But…” The doctor glanced at Ming Xiaoyue standing nearby.
Ming Xiaoyue’s body had tensed without her realizing it, her hands clenching into fists against her will.
Lu Zhengqing noticed the doctor’s implication but dismissed it with a wave of his hand. “Speak plainly. There are no outsiders here.”
Lu Zhengqing’s words sent a jolt through Ming Xiaoyue’s heart.
“Well, Miss Lu’s body contains pheromones from another person. We examined her glands, and it seems… it seems…”
The doctor hesitated, finding it difficult to voice the truth.
Lu Zhengqing, who loathed such dawdling, cut him off impatiently. “Just spit it out!”
“Miss Lu has been marked, and the marker was an Omega,” the doctor blurted out in a single breath.
This time, it was Lu Zhengqing’s turn to fall silent. Realizing the implications, he turned to Ming Xiaoyue, who stood stiffly beside him.
“I’m sorry,” Ming Xiaoyue apologized first, but her lukewarm apology sounded pale and feeble.
“You…” Lu Zhengqing began, then trailed off, his words catching in his throat.
“Xiaoxi, she… sigh.” With a long sigh, Lu Zhengqing fell silent again.
He turned to the doctor, who, sensing the mood, spoke up. “Reverse marking from an Omega to an Alpha has no lasting side effects. The Alpha might become slightly more sensitive to the Omega who marked her.
Fortunately, the pheromone compatibility between Miss Lu and the Omega is high. However, since she’s an Alpha, the excess pheromones still carry a risk of triggering heat.”
