- Chapter 13 - 13% Compliance - I'm Being Good Now, Please Forgive Me!
Bathed in sunlight, Lu Jinxi couldn’t resist leaning closer, her gaze fixed on Ming Xiaoyue’s steadily breathing, crimson lips. Unconsciously, she drew nearer.
Lu Jinxi could even feel Ming Xiaoyue’s warm breath brushing against her cheek, her throat tightening slightly.
Unseen by Lu Jinxi, Ming Xiaoyue’s hand had already clenched into a fist, poised to strike…
A gentle breeze stirred. In the end, Lu Jinxi merely brushed a strand of hair from Ming Xiaoyue’s face, tugged the small blanket around her, and stood up with a crisp movement.
As she turned to leave, Ming Xiaoyue’s eyes snapped open on the sofa, showing no trace of drowsiness.
Only after hearing the door click shut did she sit up, wearily rubbing her temples. Ming Xiaoyue hadn’t expected her neurasthenia from her previous life to carry over into this one. It seemed she’d need to find time for a medical checkup.
As for Lu Jinxi’s earlier behavior, she didn’t want to dwell on it. After all, she had her own plans. Helping Lu Jinxi deal with her grandfather was one thing, but anything beyond that? Lu Jinxi shouldn’t even dream of it.
After returning to the girl group, Ming Xiaoyue’s first priority was to distance herself from Lu Jinxi. After all, this was the woman who had used her as a stepping stone in their previous life and hadn’t uttered a single truthful word in this one. She had no time to waste on Lu Jinxi.
Ming Xiaoyue threw back the covers, stood up, and strode openly toward the door. She was determined to see what mischief Lu Jinxi was up to this time.
Unexpectedly, the corridor was deserted. Ming Xiaoyue glanced around, but as she rounded a corner, she spotted Lu Jinxi’s silhouette through a slightly ajar door.
Before she could approach, she overheard their conversation.
“So, if there are no other complications, I can be discharged now?” Lu Jinxi’s crisp, clear voice carried through the crack. Ming Xiaoyue saw her standing tall and straight, her back to the door, showing no signs of her recent serious illness.
The doctor opposite her sounded conflicted. “Miss Lu, we still recommend you stay for observation for a few more days. After all, this concerns your glands, and…”
“Enough. Just tell me if I can be discharged or not?” In an unexpected display of unilateral authority, Lu Jinxi was forcing the doctor to comply.
Ming Xiaoyue let out a cold laugh. This woman’s submissive act in front of her had been a complete facade. She had almost—almost…
Ming Xiaoyue gazed at the interplay of sunlight and shadow, a self-deprecating smile playing on her lips. She had no desire to hear any more and strolled back to her room.
Just as she entered the ward, Lu Jinxi returned shortly after. She opened the door quietly, half-bent over, and glanced up with a feigned innocence.
Their eyes met. Ming Xiaoyue watched her hastily straighten up, a slight curve to her lips as she said, “You’re awake?”
“Mm,” Ming Xiaoyue replied coolly.
“Um, I spoke with the doctor. She said I can be discharged today. If you don’t have any other plans, why don’t we head back to the girl group together?”
Another lie, Ming Xiaoyue thought with a cold smile. If she hadn’t overheard the doctor’s actual words earlier, she might have fallen for Lu Jinxi’s lies. Not a single word from this woman’s mouth was true.
Though Ming Xiaoyue couldn’t fathom Lu Jinxi’s motives for deceiving her, the very act of deception filled her with disdain.
“Mm,” Ming Xiaoyue replied indifferently, still lacking any desire to engage in conversation.
Lu Jinxi glanced at Ming Xiaoyue, who was lounging lazily, and assumed she had just woken up and was in a bad mood. After all, Lu Jinxi had infiltrated Ming Xiaoyue’s fan group before and learned a few of her quirks.
The most vivid detail she remembered was Ming Xiaoyue’s morning grumpiness. The actress herself had mentioned it more than once in interviews, admitting she loved acting but absolutely hated waking up early.
Lu Jinxi walked straight to the water dispenser, poured a glass of cold water, and handed it to Ming Xiaoyue. “Why don’t you drink this first? I’ll tidy up.”
Ming Xiaoyue raised her eyes slightly. She did have a habit of drinking cold water after waking up to clear her head. She frowned. Sometimes Lu Jinxi’s behavior felt too strange, as if she knew her habits intimately, and the way she tried to please her only made it worse.
Whether it was genuine or not, Ming Xiaoyue found it deeply unsettling, especially since the one showering her with such attention was Lu Jinxi.
Clutching her clothes, Lu Jinxi disappeared into the bathroom, presumably to change.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
Ming Xiaoyue opened it to find the doctor standing there, smiling. “Where’s Miss Lu?” she asked.
“Bathroom,” Ming Xiaoyue replied curtly.
“Ah, here’s a medicinal cream to apply to the glands. It can also help with scarring. Once a day is sufficient. Please pass it on to Miss Lu when she’s out.”
The doctor, seeing Ming Xiaoyue in the hospital room, assumed she was Lu Jinxi’s partner and handed the ointment directly to her without hesitation.
Ming Xiaoyue accepted the ointment without a word. The doctor, sensing the moment, turned to leave, but before she could turn around, Ming Xiaoyue spoke again, her tone inexplicably sharp.
“By the way, reverse marking isn’t entirely impossible, but if you’re concerned, it’s best not to do it too often. After all, the primary purpose of marking is to inject one’s pheromones into another’s body.
If the pheromones merge, it can create psychological dependence. Beyond just physical attraction, pheromones can also trigger hormonal responses that create the urge to bond.”
The doctor finished speaking and turned to leave, knowing she was an outsider. But these young lovers, eager to experiment, made her feel compelled to explain the risks and benefits to Ming Xiaoyue.
If she had encountered any other Omega, she might have let the matter drop. But she had the misfortune of encountering Ming Xiaoyue, this particular Omega.
Before the doctor could leave, Ming Xiaoyue’s sharp gaze pierced her, and she retorted coldly, “Then why can Alphas mark Omegas and make them dependent, but Omegas can’t mark Alphas?”
The doctor was momentarily speechless. It was unheard of for an Alpha to allow someone to bite and mark them. Alphas were inherently self-centered, and with societal advancements, their superior learning abilities had placed them almost exclusively in positions of power. How could those in power tolerate the resentment of their subordinates?
Ming Xiaoyue calmly noticed the flicker of disdain in the doctor’s eyes. She couldn’t quite articulate the complex emotions churning within her. In her previous life, she had already understood the true nature of this society.
The world was nothing more than a grand stage, and this particular world favored Alphas above all else.
Ming Xiaoyue despised such a system. That was why, in her previous life, she had relentlessly climbed the social ladder, determined to shatter these inhumanly crafted rules.
Yet the higher she climbed, the more she witnessed the hypocrisy of those outwardly refined and glamorous Alphas. Behind their polished facades, they relied on their families’ power to engage in despicable acts.
Hah! Ming Xiaoyue thought bitterly. If these incompetent fools are in charge of the nation, it might as well be destroyed.
Click! Lu Jinxi emerged from the bathroom, having just changed her clothes. She looked at the stranger in the room with surprise and asked, “Doctor Wang, is there something you need?”
Ming Xiaoyue scoffed inwardly. Lu Jinxi was no saint either.
“Oh, nothing much. I was just…”
Before the doctor could finish speaking, Ming Xiaoyue suddenly interrupted, “Lu Jinxi, come here.”
She spoke with a smile, but her words carried an imperceptible danger, like a predator lurking in the shadows, silently stalking its prey.
Lu Jinxi, unsuspecting, sincerely walked over.
The doctor glanced between them, momentarily bewildered. When Lu Jinxi stopped three steps away from Ming Xiaoyue, she continued, “Closer.”
“Oh,” Lu Jinxi shifted slightly, but still maintained some distance. Ming Xiaoyue’s patience wore thin. With a less-than-gentle grip on Lu Jinxi’s collar, she yanked her forward.
Then, in a cold, commanding tone, she ordered, “Lower your head.”
Lu Jinxi instinctively obeyed, lowering her head. The suppression patch on the back of her neck was abruptly peeled off.
Perhaps due to her recent pheromone imbalance, the moment the patch was removed, Lu Jinxi’s unique, bitter pheromones flooded the room. She instinctively reached up to cover her neck, but a voice brooked no argument.
“Don’t move!”
Lu Jinxi’s half-raised hand froze in mid-air. She felt Ming Xiaoyue lean down, and then her already tooth-marked gland suddenly grew warm as Ming Xiaoyue’s tongue lingered wetly over it.
Her breathing quickened, and her hand, without her realizing it, had dropped to her side, clenching tightly onto her trouser leg.
But Ming Xiaoyue didn’t bite down. Instead, she probed back and forth, making Lu Jinxi’s heart pound with terror.
Lu Jinxi swallowed nervously, lifting her gaze only to meet the doctor’s astonished eyes.
It must have been the first time the doctor had witnessed an Omega reverse-marking an Alpha, leaving her frozen in place.
“Your Majesty,” Lu Jinxi gasped, her voice unsteady. “Doctor Wang, if there’s nothing else, please leave.”
Lu Jinxi’s words snapped the doctor out of her daze. She stammered, “Of course, but your condition hasn’t…”
“Please leave,” Lu Jinxi repeated coldly, feeling her legs weaken. She didn’t want anyone to see her in such a disheveled state, though she knew she wasn’t faring much better now.
“Alright,” the doctor said, sensing the situation. She finished speaking, turned, and left, closing the door behind her.
“Ming Xiaoyue,” Lu Jinxi murmured, unsure why Ming Xiaoyue was suddenly trying to mark her again. Under Ming Xiaoyue’s licking, her body grew weak. She half-raised her hands to Ming Xiaoyue’s shoulders, her voice pleading, “What are you doing?”
“Hmm, the doctor just told me that if an Omega reverse-marks an Alpha repeatedly, the Alpha will become dependent on the Omega’s pheromones.” Ming Xiaoyue paused, pulling back slightly to look Lu Jinxi in the eyes. “Lu Jinxi,” she continued, “do you dare entrust yourself to me? Like those Omegas who have been deeply marked by Alphas, you might not even survive without me. Do you dare? Hmm?”
As she spoke, Ming Xiaoyue’s fingertips continued to caress the uneven glands on the back of Lu Jinxi’s neck, a gesture that felt both like seduction and coercion. Her eyes remained fixed on Lu Jinxi’s face, not missing the slightest flicker of emotion.
