Omega, Always Wants to Mark Me - Chapter 20
“Let’s see how Wu Yingyun is doing tomorrow before deciding,” Ming Xiaoyue said, trying to avoid the topic.
“Ming Xiaoyue,” Song Wanwen said coldly. As the team captain, she had noticed the subtle signs of a connection between Ming Xiaoyue and Lu Jinxi, but she had also seen the adoration in Wu Yingyun’s eyes.
The rest of her words weren’t appropriate to say in front of a patient. After calling Ming Xiaoyue’s name, Song Wanwen said with a slightly frosty expression, “Come outside for a moment. I need to talk to you.”
“Okay,” Ming Xiaoyue murmured, lowering her gaze.
Song Wanwen turned to Wen Yifan and instructed, “Yifan, please take care of Wu Yingyun for now. We’ll be right back.”
“Alright,” Wen Yifan replied, unusually obedient.
Ming Xiaoyue watched Song Wanwen, who was speaking in a much softer tone than usual, and pursed her lips. Her mind drifted off, lost in thought.
To outsiders, it might seem like they were just shipping Wen Yifan and Song Wanwen as a couple. But in her previous life, Ming Xiaoyue knew the truth: the two were genuinely lovers. However, because they were both Omegas, they had kept their relationship deeply hidden.
Since the Omega independence movement began, many Omegas had gradually awakened, no longer content to live solely in dependence on Alphas. They sought their own jobs, lived independently, and refused relationships with Alphas as a form of resistance against the arrogant Alpha class.
Without Alpha-Omega pairings, birth rates plummeted to new lows each year. Yet the authorities ignored public outcry, stubbornly clinging to their support of Alphas without restraint. They even considered measures like fines and suppressing Omega employment to force Omegas into marriages with Alphas.
But the Omegas refused to yield, leading to even greater resistance from the entire group. Even Ming Xiaoyue, in her previous life, found it difficult to remain neutral, though she never supported the extreme tactics of some Omega organizations.
Thinking of Song Wanwen and Wen Yifan, Ming Xiaoyue felt a pang of regret.
They had only debuted recently. During an event, Wen Yifan suddenly went into heat. At the peak of their girl group’s popularity, the two were photographed entering a hotel together, and their shared Omega status was exposed.
When their Omega-Omega relationship was exposed, some fans were delighted, but the official authorities, fearing the impact, immediately enforced a ban. The public hurled insults, and the Alpha community launched attacks.
The story ended with both women leaving the girl group. As Ming Xiaoyue recalled this, her gaze suddenly softened with pity as she looked at Wen Yifan. Within the group, apart from the taciturn Lu Jinxi, Wen Yifan was even more withdrawn.
Lu Jinxi’s silence stemmed from her self-sufficiency and fearlessness on stage, but Wen Yifan’s silence was rooted in her crippling shyness—a true social anxiety. Even though Ming Xiaoyue had been in the same girl group with her, had it not been for the uproar caused by Wen Yifan’s suicide, Ming Xiaoyue would have barely remembered her.
In the end, their Omega-Omega romance ended with one dead and the other vanished into obscurity.
Taking a deep breath, Ming Xiaoyue felt a sudden wave of confusion. Even if she could relive her life, how much could she truly change? In her previous life, she had only used her position to slightly shake the Alpha community’s absolute power…
“Let’s go,” Song Wanwen called out from the doorway when she noticed Ming Xiaoyue hadn’t followed.
Ming Xiaoyue snapped out of her thoughts. This path seemed even more treacherous than before, but at least she could keep up with Song Wanwen. As she closed the door, she glanced at Wen Yifan, her mind racing. I have to try to change something!
Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t realize Song Wanwen had led her back to the stairwell—where the last person she wanted to see was waiting.
Lu Jinxi, leaning against the inner wall, straightened involuntarily when she saw Ming Xiaoyue behind Song Wanwen.
“Alright, everyone’s here. The topic is a bit sensitive, which is why I chose to discuss it here,” Song Wanwen said bluntly, cutting straight to the point.
“Let’s start with the competition in five days. It’s the team event first, followed by the doubles. With the two of you like this, how are you planning to compete in the doubles? Hmm?”
“I’m not planning to team up with her,” Ming Xiaoyue declared ruthlessly, figuring she couldn’t hide it any longer. Besides, there were no cameras in the stairwell.
On the other side, Lu Jinxi pressed her lips together without responding, her eyes lowered, but her hands clenched slightly at her sides.
Song Wanwen was now certain: these two had indeed had a serious falling-out. In her memory, Ming Xiaoyue had always been like a little sun, rarely refusing anyone and always going to great lengths to help others.
“Lu Jinxi,” Song Wanwen called out.
Lu Jinxi finally looked up. Song Wanwen continued, “What did you do to upset Xiaoyue?”
“I…” Lu Jinxi didn’t know where to begin. She couldn’t reveal what had happened at the hotel, even though she trusted Song Wanwen. Since it involved Ming Xiaoyue, she didn’t want to take any risks.
She decided to downplay the situation, saying, “I… probably said something wrong.” As she spoke, she glanced guiltily at Ming Xiaoyue, who stood beside her, but Ming Xiaoyue haughtily ignored her.
Song Wanwen, being perceptive, didn’t call out Lu Jinxi’s lie. She simply said calmly, “Then apologize sincerely to Xiaoyue right now.”
“I’m sorry!”
“I don’t need it!”
Two voices spoke simultaneously. Lu Jinxi, following Ming Xiaoyue’s earlier advice, kept her gaze fixed on Ming Xiaoyue’s eyes as she spoke.
But after Ming Xiaoyue’s merciless rejection, Lu Jinxi hastily averted her slightly flustered gaze, bit her lower lip, and nervously tugged at her pant leg with her hand at her side.
Song Wanwen, however, saw through the situation clearly. Ming Xiaoyue was being unreasonably unforgiving. She sighed softly and murmured, “A-Yue, even for the sake of the team, you should reconcile with her first. You know Wu Yingyun’s condition.
Five days isn’t a long time, but her heat cycle might pass. However, an Omega’s heat cycle doesn’t simply end without consequences. If something goes wrong on stage later, it won’t be as easily brushed aside as today’s incident.”
Song Wanwen’s rational analysis left both women silent, as her points were undeniably valid.
“Oh, A-Yue, I actually noticed something earlier,” Song Wanwen added, her voice suddenly hesitant.
“What is it?” Ming Xiaoyue asked.
“The Alpha pheromone we smelled earlier… it was coming from you. Are you…?” Song Wanwen trailed off, unsure how to phrase the question.
The question was too personal. After all, an Omega carrying Alpha pheromones could only mean they had been marked by an Alpha.
“Ahem,” Song Wanwen cleared her throat, trying to brush past the topic. “It’s nothing. Just use some pheromone-blocking spray for the next few days, and you should be fine.”
As Song Wanwen turned away, Ming Xiaoyue shot a resentful glare at Lu Jinxi. Lu Jinxi, catching her gaze, looked even more embarrassed, her hand involuntarily reaching for the back of her neck.
Ever since Ming Xiaoyue had reverse-marked her, Lu Jinxi had indeed felt their pheromones intertwining, consciously and unconsciously. But she never imagined her pheromones would linger on Ming Xiaoyue’s body!
While the two exchanged glances, they failed to notice Song Wanwen’s expression shifting to surprise. After scanning them again, she believed she had finally grasped the core of their conflict.
Sensing Song Wanwen’s gaze, Ming Xiaoyue, knowing her well, decided to lay her cards on the table.
“No, I marked her,” Ming Xiaoyue said, her words sending shockwaves through the room. Lu Jinxi turned to Ming Xiaoyue in astonishment, never expecting her to reveal the truth so directly.
Song Wanwen, on the other hand, was utterly stunned. As an Alpha, Lu Jinxi had willingly allowed herself to be marked by an Omega.
Ming Xiaoyue’s single sentence carried a weight of information that left both women frozen in place.
“Oh, and Captain, I know about you and Wen Yifan,” Ming Xiaoyue added with a smile, though a subtle threat lurked beneath her words.
Song Wanwen glanced at her in surprise. Ming Xiaoyue continued casually, “But I suggest you keep it under wraps. After all, Omega-Omega relationships aren’t exactly accepted in public.”
“How did you kn—” Song Wanwen began, but abruptly cut herself off.
When Wen Yifan was involved, Song Wanwen always struggled to maintain her composure. She had barely spoken before realizing she had fallen into Ming Xiaoyue’s trap.
Hadn’t she just indirectly confirmed her Omega-Omega relationship with Wen Yifan?
Song Wanwen met Ming Xiaoyue’s smiling gaze once more, but her earlier composure had vanished.
“Alright, now that we all know each other’s secrets, let’s lay our cards on the table. First, my stance: Lu Jinxi, I still won’t fall for you.
But after thinking it over, you were right about my behavior being flawed. I apologize.”
“But now that we’ve come this far, if you truly can’t bring yourself to like Wu Yingyun, I’m willing to continue our CP partnership for both our benefits.
However, this is just for show. Don’t get any other ideas. Since Song Wanwen is here to witness this, can you accept these terms?”
After speaking, she fixed Lu Jinxi with a scrutinizing gaze.
Lu Jinxi’s eyes remained lowered as she murmured, “Mm, I understand.”
Ming Xiaoyue exhaled again. She had realized on the way here with Song Wanwen that her meager popularity might not be enough to secure her debut. In that case, she wouldn’t mind using Lu Jinxi as a stepping stone.
“What about the solo part in the group dance?” Song Wanwen seized the opportunity to probe now that they were being so frank.
“I’ll explain everything to Wu Yingyun later,” Lu Jinxi said, rarely speaking up and taking on the role of the villain.
Ming Xiaoyue’s mood inexplicably brightened slightly, and her expression softened toward Lu Jinxi. “Good,” she said cheerfully. “It’s best if you tell her yourself.”
Song Wanwen watched Ming Xiaoyue’s sudden shift with a complicated expression. She couldn’t help but suspect that Ming Xiaoyue was falling in love without realizing it. No wonder she had vanished all afternoon while Lu Jinxi and Wu Yingyun were practicing their solo together.
