- Chapter 46 - 46% Hmm, I've been honest. Please forgive me!
A deathly silence fell between them, a stark contrast to the lively atmosphere of the earlier interview.
Thankfully, the host didn’t press the issue, saying, “Alright, let’s move on to another video. You can discuss it after watching.”
The video showed Ming Xiaoyue alone.
Host:Â By the way, I heard you adapted the team’s new dance. But I vaguely remember during yesterday’s interview, when we were discussing Wu Yingyun, you said the team was just a temporary arrangement, that no one would stay with you until the end. So why didn’t you save this breathtaking dance for your final stage, perhaps even performing it solo? Why were you willing to sacrifice it?
Ming Xiaoyue:Â Actually, I really like our current team. At the time, I was just upset because of a minor disagreement with them, which led me to say some harsh things.
Host:Â Lu Jinxi, right? After all, you were so adamant about not being paired up with her as a couple. I never imagined your solo performances on stage would be such a sensation, going viral beyond our usual audience.
Ming Xiaoyue: “Ah? Really?”
Host: “Yes. Now, is there anything you’d like to say to Lu Jinxi? We’ll pass it on to her after tomorrow’s solo dance, assuming you both make it through.”
Ming Xiaoyue: “Thank you.”
“Nothing else?” the host asked.
Ming Xiaoyue: “Hmm, not for now.”
Host: “Alright. Last question: many members have expressed dissatisfaction and protested the show’s decision to hold an internal competition among the four of you. If it really comes to that, who would you choose as your opponent?”
Ming Xiaoyue hadn’t expected this question. Her expression gradually turned serious, her face etched with conflict.
Noticing her tension, the host softened his tone. “It’s just a hypothetical, don’t overthink it.”
“I…” Ming Xiaoyue’s mind raced with possibilities, but she still couldn’t bring herself to choose.
The host, sensing her discomfort, kindly offered an out. “Alright, it’s clear you cherish your team. It’s getting late, so let’s wrap up the interview for today.”
“Thank you,” Ming Xiaoyue said, grateful for the host’s understanding.
“Alright, goodbye! I hope to see you here again next time,” the host said with a smile.
“Mm, okay,” Ming Xiaoyue replied as she left.
The screen went dark again. In the darkness, the host repeated the question: “Now then, do you have anything you want to say to each other?”
“Thank you!” they both said in unison, turning to face each other.
The host, surprised that they had said the exact same thing, first asked Ming Xiaoyue, “Miss Ming, what are you thanking her for?”
“Thank you for all your help these past few weeks, Lu Jinxi. I’m truly grateful. I’m so sorry for what I said before,” Ming Xiaoyue said, starting to stand up, but Lu Jinxi gently pressed her shoulder to keep her seated.
“It’s okay. I’m also very grateful to you for ultimately choosing me, Ming Xiaoyue. I…” Lu Jinxi’s voice suddenly caught in her throat, her lips trembling slightly, and her hands shaking uncontrollably.
Ming Xiaoyue took her hand and said, “It’s alright. Let’s keep working hard together.”
“Mm, okay!” Lu Jinxi understood Ming Xiaoyue perfectly. That time, Xiaoyue had been waiting for her to join the team. As Lu Jinxi gazed at Ming Xiaoyue’s profile, she felt a surge of warmth.
Did this mean that Ming Xiaoyue would now have a place in her future?
“Alright, thank you for the interview! We wish you all the best for your performance the day after tomorrow!” The host smiled as the lights came up, and the two instinctively blinked.
When they opened their eyes, they saw a hint of tears in each other’s eyes.
“We’ll do our best!” they said in unison.
Afterward, as they left and closed the door, Ming Xiaoyue couldn’t help but say, “I’m sorry, Lu Jinxi.”
Her voice was soft, but Lu Jinxi caught it. Her face lit up with a smile as she replied, “It’s okay! I’m really happy to be teamed up with you! Really!”
“I know. Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
As they walked out, they brushed past Song Wanwen and Wen Yifan.
The four exchanged knowing nods. Song Wanwen mouthed silently with a smile, “Good luck!”
Ming Xiaoyue and Lu Jinxi nodded back, smiling.
On the way back, Ming Xiaoyue glanced casually at the screen and noticed that the top-ranked teams all seemed to be popular CP pairings. An indescribable feeling settled in her heart.
Once they were alone in the practice room, Ming Xiaoyue couldn’t resist asking, “Aren’t you afraid?”
“Hmm? Afraid of what?” Lu Jinxi asked, puzzled as she organized her things.
“You know… did you notice the rankings?”
Lu Jinxi paused, thinking for a moment before tentatively replying, “Are you talking about the CP pairings?”
“Yeah,” Ming Xiaoyue mumbled. “Aren’t you afraid I’m just using you? Using the hype from our CP fans and our individual fans to climb over you like a stepping stone?”
As she spoke, Ming Xiaoyue suddenly regretted her earlier paranoia. Her past life had left her overly suspicious. It had been so long since she’d encountered someone genuinely kind, someone who cared for her without any ulterior motives, that she felt she was constantly hurting Lu Jinxi.
Lu Jinxi fell silent. This time, the silence gradually chilled Ming Xiaoyue’s uneasy heart. She knew better than anyone the feeling of a warm heart slowly turning cold.
Just as Ming Xiaoyue was about to speak, Lu Jinxi smiled and said, “That’s wonderful, Ming Xiaoyue. I’m honored to be able to help you on your path to success. It’s my pleasure.”
Ming Xiaoyue clearly hadn’t expected Lu Jinxi’s response. For a moment, the words she had been about to say vanished from her mind, leaving her throat tight and her voice caught between words.
“Ming Xiaoyue, I understand your doubts. But as I told you before, when I said I liked you, I wasn’t asking you to like me back. So, my kindness toward you now isn’t conditional on your reciprocation. Still, I’m deeply grateful that you ultimately chose me.”
As Lu Jinxi finished speaking, she felt a sudden surge in Ming Xiaoyue’s pheromones. Thinking her heat cycle had returned, she quickly stood up to find an inhibitor.
But the next moment, Ming Xiaoyue abruptly hugged her from behind. Lu Jinxi could feel the warmth of Ming Xiaoyue’s breath and body heat against her back.
She heard Ming Xiaoyue whisper, “Lu Jinxi, I want to bite you.”
Lu Jinxi glanced around the practice room. Though empty and devoid of outsiders, its bright lights and mirrored walls contrasted sharply with the dim hallway.
Behind her, Ming Xiaoyue easily spotted Lu Jinxi’s reddened earlobe. Unable to resist, she parted her lips and gently took it into her mouth.
Lu Jinxi trembled slightly. “Mmm,” she murmured.
“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes,” Ming Xiaoyue said, her fingertips already lifting a corner of the suppressant patch on Lu Jinxi’s nape.
The Alpha pheromones emanating from Lu Jinxi instinctively intertwined with Ming Xiaoyue’s Omega pheromones. As the two orange-scented pheromones merged, Lu Jinxi’s dry pheromones gradually took on a sweeter fragrance.
Ming Xiaoyue lowered her head, sniffing Lu Jinxi’s nape. For the first time, she felt a pang of regret for not being able to clearly discern the scent of Lu Jinxi’s pheromones, only vaguely sensing that it was likely orange-scented.
Meanwhile, as an Alpha, Lu Jinxi’s pale skin gradually flushed pink, then deepened to crimson under the persistent attention on her nape.
Ming Xiaoyue gently licked Lu Jinxi’s nape, feeling her tremble. “Then I’ll bite you now,” she declared solemnly.
“Mm,” Lu Jinxi whispered, her hands clenching nervously at her pants leg.
The moment Ming Xiaoyue bit down, she intertwined her fingers with Lu Jinxi’s. Lu Jinxi’s legs began to shake uncontrollably, but fortunately, Ming Xiaoyue’s other arm wrapped firmly around her waist, preventing her from sliding down this time.
In stark contrast to her previous recklessness, Ming Xiaoyue now licked with exceptional tenderness, occasionally sucking on Lu Jinxi’s glands as if trying to discern the faint taste of her pheromones.
Her tongue soothed the teeth marks on Lu Jinxi’s nape, sending an indescribable pleasure surging from the back of her neck straight to the tips of her brain.
At some point, the hem of Lu Jinxi’s clothes had been lifted slightly, allowing the cool night breeze to slip through the gap. Yet, no matter how the wind blew, it couldn’t dispel the heat simmering within Lu Jinxi’s heart.
“Mmm,” Lu Jinxi murmured, perhaps experiencing such gentle treatment for the first time, leaving her momentarily disoriented.
Suddenly, Ming Xiaoyue’s arm wrapped around her waist, threatening to make her kneel. But with swift reflexes, Ming Xiaoyue pulled her to a nearby corner, her voice husky as she instructed, “Brace yourself.”
In a daze, Lu Jinxi obediently gripped the bar she usually used for leg stretches, still unaware of the gravity of the situation.
It wasn’t until Ming Xiaoyue’s hand, which had been resting on her waist, suddenly shifted direction that Lu Jinxi instinctively arched her back, trying to escape. But Ming Xiaoyue forcefully pressed her back down.
Ming Xiaoyue’s voice unconsciously grew urgent. “Don’t move!”
Lu Jinxi genuinely didn’t resist. Their ragged breaths mingled, and Ming Xiaoyue whispered, “Let’s finish this quickly.”
The moment the words left her lips, Lu Jinxi let out a stifled groan. Her supporting hand trembled violently, the muscles in her forearm gradually becoming defined, and the veins on the back of her hand bulged.
In the quiet practice room, aside from the rustling leaves blown by the wind, the increasingly prominent sound of wetness filled the air, like an accompanying melody.
Ming Xiaoyue meant what she said about finishing quickly. Her hand moved in and out with forceful strokes, her forearm muscles no less developed than Lu Jinxi’s.
“Ugh…” Lu Jinxi arched her neck, her clenched hand turning white. She lowered her head, and a few drops—whether sweat or tears—fell onto the floor.
Amidst the sounds of wetness and ragged breathing, Ming Xiaoyue gently patted Lu Jinxi’s back and murmured soothingly, “It’s okay now.”
As she spoke, Ming Xiaoyue nuzzled Lu Jinxi’s neck and carefully inhaled the scent of her nape, still unable to discern the exact aroma of Lu Jinxi’s pheromone.
