- Chapter 47 - 47% Oyeah! I'm being honest, please forgive me!
When everything was over, the floor was slick with water. Lu Jinxi’s breathing gradually calmed, and she turned her head slightly to look at Ming Xiaoyue. Before she could speak, Ming Xiaoyue leaned in for a kiss.
Lu Jinxi’s newly regulated breathing immediately became erratic again, but thankfully, her past-life experience with kissing kicked in, and she quickly fell into rhythm.
The two remained locked in an embrace for a long time, until Ming Xiaoyue finally broke away first.
Lu Jinxi turned to face Ming Xiaoyue, wrapping her arms around her and gazing at her with starry eyes, a smile playing on her lips.
Ming Xiaoyue suddenly patted Lu Jinxi’s cheek, not too hard, not too soft. Lu Jinxi’s playful expression froze, her face going blank as she stared at Ming Xiaoyue.
“Hah,” Ming Xiaoyue exhaled, her breathing finally returning to normal. Her brow furrowed as she asked, “Who taught you that?!”
“Huh?! What?” Lu Jinxi stammered, feigning innocence.
Ming Xiaoyue’s expression darkened. She pushed Lu Jinxi away and turned to leave. In a moment of clarity, Lu Jinxi realized Ming Xiaoyue was referring to their kiss. How unfair! she thought.
During her past life abroad, she’d taken on plenty of romantic roles. She’d simply gritted her teeth and learned as she went. Caught up in the moment, she’d forgotten to restrain herself.
Hiss. Lu Jinxi instantly knew she was in trouble, but she quickly pulled Ming Xiaoyue back.
“Wait, let me explain!” Lu Jinxi pleaded, terrified that Ming Xiaoyue would turn and leave if she hesitated even a moment longer. She didn’t want her “wife experience” to end after just one day.
To Lu Jinxi’s surprise, Ming Xiaoyue didn’t react as she usually would. Instead, she calmly returned, crossed her arms over her chest, and tilted her head back, as if to say, “Go on, explain yourself.”
Lu Jinxi’s mind raced. Improvising an explanation on the spot was no easy task, especially when facing Ming Xiaoyue’s eyes, which seemed to see right through her. She swallowed nervously.
“Hmm? Why aren’t you talking? Lu Jinxi,” Ming Xiaoyue pressed, stepping closer with each word. Lu Jinxi instinctively chuckled nervously and retreated until her back hit the railing behind her, leaving her nowhere to escape.
“Hmph,” Ming Xiaoyue scoffed, as if confirming her suspicions. She grabbed Lu Jinxi by the collar, her voice fierce but hollow. “I don’t care how many Omegas you’ve kissed before! But from now on, you won’t touch a single one! If I catch you—!”
As she spoke, Ming Xiaoyue suddenly glanced sideways at the back of Lu Jinxi’s neck. Lu Jinxi instinctively reached up to touch it, feeling as if Ming Xiaoyue’s gaze was about to sink her teeth into her scent gland.
Though Lu Jinxi felt wronged, she knew she had no choice. She had to take the blame, or she’d never be able to explain herself.
“I get it, I get it! I swear I’ll keep my distance from other Omegas from now on. I promise I won’t two-time anyone!” Lu Jinxi said, raising three fingers as if taking an oath, afraid Ming Xiaoyue wouldn’t believe her.
“Hmph, you’d better!” Ming Xiaoyue retorted, though her anger had eased considerably. “Alright, go home and rest well today. Tomorrow’s the last day of training before the competition.”
As she spoke, Ming Xiaoyue suddenly felt a pang of regret. Her gaze involuntarily drifted downward, toward Lu Jinxi’s lower region. Lu Jinxi followed her gaze, her face flushing crimson as she stammered, “It should be fine, right?”
“Mm,” Ming Xiaoyue agreed, but added, “Still, check it when you get home. Are all Alphas this… tight?”
Lu Jinxi knew exactly what she meant. Truthfully, she still felt a strange sensation of something foreign inside her.
“Ahem, I will.”
“Good. Let’s go eat. We’ve worked up quite an appetite today,” Ming Xiaoyue said, her words carrying a double meaning.
Lu Jinxi caught the hidden implication in her words and fell silent, unsure how to respond.
When they arrived at the cafeteria, they ran into Song Wanwen and Wen Yifan. The four naturally gathered at the same table.
“Hey, did you guys hear? Tang Jinshu and Wen Hongyu seem to have fallen behind. Is that why the Tang Family is collapsing now?” Song Wanwen asked, her gaze fixed on Lu Jinxi.
Lu Jinxi didn’t dare respond. Tang Jinshu, right here? She couldn’t possibly discuss other Omegas in front of Ming Xiaoyue.
Feeling utterly inadequate, Lu Jinxi buried her face in her food, determined to focus on eating.
Seeing Lu Jinxi’s reaction, Ming Xiaoyue reluctantly softened her tone. “Who cares? Until the final moment, no one knows who will debut.”
Changing the subject, Ming Xiaoyue asked, “How’s your rehearsal going?”
“Much better! We’re so grateful for your guidance on the first day. We feel like we’ve improved so much,” Song Wanwen said gratefully.
“Don’t worry, just perform normally. You have a good chance of debuting,” Ming Xiaoyue reassured her.
“What about you guys?” Song Wanwen asked hesitantly, worried about causing another conflict between Lu Jinxi and Ming Xiaoyue.
“Us?” Ming Xiaoyue glanced at Lu Jinxi, who was still focused on her food, and nudged her waist. Lu Jinxi quickly looked up and said, “We’re doing great!”
“Oh, that’s good,” Song Wanwen replied, noticing nothing amiss between the two. Yet, she couldn’t shake off a strange sense of unease about their interaction.
Perhaps still feeling guilty about the recent interview, Ming Xiaoyue lowered her guard and said, “By the way, I’m sorry about the interview last time. I…”
“Oh, don’t worry about it, A-Yue,” Song Wanwen said, standing up. “We all know you—sharp tongue, soft heart. We didn’t take it to heart. Well, we’re done eating. Let’s go!”
Wen Yifan quickly followed suit.
Ming Xiaoyue nodded, knowing Song Wanwen was giving her an out.
After they left, Ming Xiaoyue turned to Lu Jinxi, puzzled. “Lu Jinxi,” she said.
“Yes?” Lu Jinxi responded immediately, looking up.
“Am I really sharp-tongued but soft-hearted?” Ming Xiaoyue asked.
Lu Jinxi’s expression turned strange for a moment, unsure how to answer.
Intrigued, Ming Xiaoyue pressed, “I’m asking you! If I’m sharp-tongued but soft-hearted, why haven’t you said a word? Did you leave your tongue at home in your past life?”
As she spoke, Ming Xiaoyue grew increasingly convinced of her point. “Hey, speaking of which, how are you so patient? Did you take some kind of vow in your past life or something? Hmm?”
She poked Lu Jinxi playfully.
Suddenly, realization dawned on her. “Wait a minute! So you knew all along I was soft-hearted? That’s why you’ve been clinging to me like a leech? Did you even listen to a word I said before?!”
“No,” Lu Jinxi said unexpectedly, breaking her rare silence. Ming Xiaoyue’s playful demeanor vanished as she watched Lu Jinxi nervously clutch her pant leg, her expression turning serious.
“Actually, I’m always heartbroken,” Lu Jinxi continued, a flicker of emotion in her voice. “But… being by your side feels so right.” As she spoke, a pang of regret stirred within her. She suddenly regretted spending her entire previous life abroad, only to end up separated by distance in the end.
If I had been just a little braver in my past life… just a little braver… would things have been different?
For the first time, Lu Jinxi loathed her own cowardice, her eyes inexplicably reddening.
Suddenly, Ming Xiaoyue’s hand gripped hers.
“I’m sorry, Lu Jinxi. I didn’t realize… Truth is, I often say things in anger, without even thinking about what I’m saying.”
Seeing Lu Jinxi’s teary eyes, Ming Xiaoyue felt a pang of remorse for her careless words.
“It’s okay,” Lu Jinxi replied, a hint of stubbornness in her voice. “Even if you try to kick me out now, I won’t leave.”
“Hmph! You’d better not go around flirting with other Omegas!”
“What do you mean ‘many’? Tang Jinshu was an accident! We never even touched!” Lu Jinxi felt compelled to defend herself. What made Ming Xiaoyue think she had so many Omegas around her?
Lu Jinxi truly felt wronged. In her past life, even when she was desperate, she had always resorted to self-stimulation. In this life, she hadn’t done anything wrong either—just Tang Jinshu, and even that was forced.
“Hmph! You’d better be telling the truth!” Ming Xiaoyue clearly hadn’t heard a word of Lu Jinxi’s defense.
“I really—” Lu Jinxi was about to continue when a familiar voice interrupted her from behind.
“Tsk! Didn’t you say you’d never team up with Ming Xiaoyue?” Tang Jinshu, who had somehow appeared behind them, casually sat down opposite the pair, mercilessly exposing Lu Jinxi’s lie.
Lu Jinxi squirmed uncomfortably, instinctively wanting to flee, but Ming Xiaoyue grabbed her arm and pulled her back down.
“Miss Ming, long time no see,” Tang Jinshu said with a smile.
Ming Xiaoyue’s expression remained frosty as she replied curtly, “Hmph.”
“Tsk, I thought you two had cleared up the misunderstanding. I really have nothing to do with her,” Tang Jinshu said, genuinely afraid of this Omega, Ming Xiaoyue.
“Oh,” Ming Xiaoyue replied, her tone neither light nor heavy.
Tang Jinshu could tell that she had made an enemy of Ming Xiaoyue. Fine, she thought, I’m not stupid. If I can’t beat her, I can certainly avoid her.
“Alright, alright, you two enjoy your meal. We’ll be going now,” Tang Jinshu said, pulling Wen Hongyu up and leaving.
Lu Jinxi’s breathing slowed considerably, terrified that even a slightly heavy breath would draw Ming Xiaoyue’s ire.
Though Ming Xiaoyue didn’t say another word, the loud clattering of her utensils against the plate clearly betrayed her mood.
“A-Yue?” Xi Ruoqiong’s voice came from behind, instantly tightening Lu Jinxi’s nerves.
“Hmm,” Ming Xiaoyue replied, her tone disinterested.
“Are you worried about the performance order?” Xi Ruoqiong asked.
Ming Xiaoyue sighed deeply and answered truthfully, “No.”
“Well, being first actually proves how popular you are! You’ve got this!” Xi Ruoqiong said with a genuine smile.
Ming Xiaoyue still felt lingering unease from Xi Ruoqiong’s fall off the stage last time. She couldn’t help but say, “We will. You too, be careful.”
“It was just an accident last time,” Xi Ruoqiong said with a smile. “Don’t worry.”
“Alright, we’re done eating. Let’s go,” Ming Xiaoyue said, standing up and glancing at Yang Yuting beside her.
Yang Yuting remained silent.
“Let’s go,” Ming Xiaoyue said coldly to Lu Jinxi.
“Okay,” Lu Jinxi replied, casting several lingering glances at Xi Ruoqiong before leaving.
As they walked out, Ming Xiaoyue didn’t head toward the dormitory. Lu Jinxi noticed this and, as they veered further off course, couldn’t help but ask, “Ming Xiaoyue, this path… it seems…”
Ming Xiaoyue stopped abruptly. There wasn’t a soul in sight. Lu Jinxi sensed the heavy concentration of Ming Xiaoyue’s pheromones and suddenly felt a knot of tension tighten in her stomach.
She heard Ming Xiaoyue say, “Lu Jinxi, why do you think I would like Xi Ruoqiong?”
