Omega, Always Wants to Mark Me - Chapter 8
“That damn bastard! Just wait till I…”
“Grandpa,” Lu Jinxi interrupted, her voice trembling slightly. In her previous life, she had wronged few people: Ming Xiaoyue and her own grandfather. Back then, she had been too young to learn how to humble herself.
After resolutely entering the entertainment industry, Lu Zhengqing had declared, “If you dare step out that door today, don’t ever come back!” Even when her manager tricked her into going abroad to run errands for the company’s top stars and work as a body double…
During her most difficult times, she had indeed honored Lu Zhengqing’s demand. After two years of struggling in obscurity, she received the news of his death.
As the largest real estate tycoon in T Province, his passing caused a massive uproar. Speculators immediately seized the opportunity to inflate property prices. If Lu Zhengqing hadn’t foreseen this and arranged for his legal counsel to contact Lu Jinxi…
Even across the ocean, Lu Jinxi would never have known that her grandfather had left her his entire estate. The foreign land felt particularly desolate. Late at night, she wept for the first time in unfamiliar streets, far from home.
Then came the tangled negotiations with her manager. It was only then that Lu Jinxi truly saw her manager for the ruthless capitalist she was.
With all her dreams shattered, Lu Jinxi returned to China alone, passport in hand. After paying a hefty breach-of-contract penalty, she knelt before the memorial altar and felt her first pang of regret.
Truth be told, Lu Jinxi had considered visiting Ming Xiaoyue during that trip home. But whether it was pride or some other reason, the actress who had toiled for years without success never sought out Ming Xiaoyue, even as she prepared to leave the country again.
With financial backing this time, her path abroad became much smoother. At times, she scorned the world’s tendency to judge people based on their circumstances, yet she remained powerless to change it.
Eventually, through sheer talent and hard work, Lu Jinxi finally won the Best Actress award. But the courage that had once burned within her had gradually faded with the passage of time.
Even after achieving fame and success, Lu Jinxi still lacked the courage to face Ming Xiaoyue. She could only follow her movements through online updates.
But life is full of unpredictable twists. No one can know whether tomorrow or tragedy will strike first.
As Lu Jinxi stood before Ming Xiaoyue’s tombstone, gazing at the sweetly smiling face in the black-and-white photo, she felt a pang of self-loathing for her own cowardice.
“What the hell happened?! Just tell me!” Lu Zhengqing’s furious roar snapped her out of her reverie.
“I just punched an Alpha with ulterior motives, Grandpa. I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
“Hmph!” Lu Zhengqing snorted coldly. “I told you! Stay out of that damn entertainment industry! It’s a cesspool of scum and…!”
“Okay,” Lu Jinxi interrupted before he could finish.
“Huh?” Lu Zhengqing’s side of the line went silent for a moment. He had tried everything—harsh words, pleading—but ever since Lu Jinxi learned that her mother had been an aspiring singer before her death, she had stubbornly insisted on entering the entertainment world. Not even nine oxen could have pulled her back. Enraged, Lu Zhengqing had even threatened to disown her if she pursued that path.
Lu Jinxi had inherited her father’s stubbornness, and the two had remained estranged for a long time. Yet, despite their conflict, Lu Zhengqing had secretly watched every episode of Lu Jinxi’s performances with her girl group.
He knew her career was going well, even landing a music video shoot. He never imagined she’d be in such serious trouble that she’d need to ask him for help.
She even agreed to leave the entertainment industry.
“Once I debut and fulfill my obligations, I’ll come back,” Lu Jinxi rarely offered such a firm promise.
“Hmph, that’s more like it. Now, what happened on your end?”
“An Alpha assaulted a female Omega during filming. I saw it and accidentally knocked him unconscious,” Lu Jinxi explained tersely.
Lu Zhengqing frowned. The Lu Family’s strict upbringing emphasized integrity. Even though Lu Jinxi was an Alpha, he had repeatedly warned her not to abuse her Alpha status to oppress or look down on other genders.
“He deserved it! Don’t worry, I’ll have Xiao Wang from the service department contact your people. With the nation now promoting Omega protection laws, Alphas like that should face the death penalty!”
Lu Zhengqing had served in the military in his youth. After peace was established, he transitioned to business, striking gold with a real estate venture. But he never lost the righteous spirit of a soldier.
“Okay, Grandpa, thank you.” This was the first proper conversation Lu Jinxi had with Lu Zhengqing since she entered the entertainment industry, despite his objections.
The older generation often struggled to express their feelings, and when she was younger, Lu Jinxi had never learned to look back.
“Oh, right,” Lu Zhengqing said, breaking from his usual pattern of brief phone calls. “Is that Omega you mentioned… Ming Xiaoyue?”
Lu Jinxi’s heart surged with shock, but thanks to her past-life experience, she managed to keep her composure.
“How do you know her, Grandpa?” she asked, her voice carefully neutral.
As expected, her counterattack left Lu Zhengqing speechless. The older generation often found it difficult to express their concern directly.
“Hmph,” he huffed. “Let me tell you, the Lu Family doesn’t tolerate indecisiveness. Don’t follow the example of those entertainment industry types and mess around with relationships.”
In her previous life, Lu Jinxi might have admitted her feelings for Ming Xiaoyue. But now, she forced a wry smile.
“No, Grandpa,” she said, explaining quickly to prevent further misunderstandings. “She’s just a good friend. What you see on TV isn’t real.”
“Hmph, just don’t let that Omega down!” Lu Zhengqing replied with a dismissive tone.
Lu Jinxi knew she couldn’t explain the concept of “shipping” to Lu Zhengqing. She gave a vague answer: “Mm, I won’t hurt her.”
This was the truth. In this life, Lu Jinxi wouldn’t allow anyone to harm Ming Xiaoyue, including herself. Thinking this, Lu Jinxi clenched her fist and bit her lower lip. Today, she had put Ming Xiaoyue in danger twice…
“Alright, I’ll forward Xiao Wang’s WeChat contact to you.”
Lu Zhengqing hung up as soon as he finished the business.
Lu Jinxi secretly breathed a sigh of relief. After adding Xiao Wang as a friend, she briefly explained the situation.
Xiao Wang advised her to first secure the footage from the camera as direct evidence.
But the most difficult aspect of this case was Ming Xiaoyue herself.
Lu Jinxi: Lawyer Wang, could we discuss this privately? The victim is an Omega and a public figure. I’m worried about the potential backlash against her.
Lawyer Wang: Of course. We have some connections with the police, but I can’t guarantee that the case won’t leak to the public.
Lu Jinxi pursed her lips. “Can we detain him first?”
Lawyer Wang: “Yes, but only for a maximum of 24 hours. After that, he can apply for bail.”
Lu Jinxi thought back to her previous life. After Luo Hong appeared on a variety show, his scandals were exposed. The one who dragged him down the most was his ex-girlfriend, who had been pregnant out of wedlock. Luo Hong had repeatedly promised her that once he became rich, he would bring her to live with him in luxury.
But when the group s3x scandal broke, her world collapsed.
Though it was a harsh measure, Lu Jinxi didn’t want any blemish on Ming Xiaoyue’s career. If she had to play the villain herself, so be it.
Lu Jinxi replied expressionlessly: “Then detain him for now.”
Lawyer Wang: “Understood. Send me your location, and I’ll sever ties with him.”
Lu Jinxi: “Okay.”
As she typed her reply, she entered Ming Xiaoyue’s room. A dark figure suddenly lunged at her.
Fortunately, Lu Jinxi reacted in time, blocking Luo Hong’s attack. In the dim light, the sharp fruit knife glinted coldly as she struggled to defend herself.
Luo Hong sneered mockingly. “Heh, I never thought you two were actually a couple. What’s this, playing house or something? And you, as an Alpha, treating Omegas like disposable clothes—what’s the harm in letting me sleep with you for one night?!”
Luo Hong didn’t finish his sentence. Lu Jinxi’s eyes gradually darkened, and the oppressive force of her pheromones surged toward him.
“You deserve to die!” Lu Jinxi hissed through clenched teeth.
Before Luo Hong could react, Lu Jinxi swiftly kicked him in the abdomen. Enhanced by her pheromones, the blow sent him crashing to his knees. Before he could raise the blade in his hand, she delivered another kick, sending it flying.
In the darkness, Lu Jinxi advanced relentlessly, her voice cold as ice. “You shouldn’t have touched her.”
As she spoke, her seemingly slender arms suddenly bulged with muscle as she seized Luo Hong by the throat.
Sensing Lu Jinxi’s murderous intent, Luo Hong’s body trembled with primal fear. As her grip tightened, he felt the icy breath of death for the first time.
His eyes widened with terror, his face flushing crimson and then turning purple as he struggled to breathe under her crushing grip.
At the last moment, Lu Jinxi released her hold. No, she thought, closing her eyes and suppressing the urge to strangle him.
Staring down at the battered Luo Hong, she rose to her feet and spoke with the chilling authority of a soul-reaping demon: “Stay away from Ming Xiaoyue from now on. Next time won’t be so lenient.”
As Lu Jinxi spoke, she stood up and took a step toward Luo Hong. He reacted instinctively, clutching his neck with both hands and scrambling backward like a demon fleeing from the King of Hell.
Fortunately, the door swung open from the outside at that moment.
A plainclothes police officer entered. She glanced at Lu Jinxi, then self-consciously adjusted her hat brim. “Miss Lu, right? I’m Tang Tianyun, from Lawyer Wang’s office.”
Lu Jinxi was surprised to see that the officer was a woman. She could faintly detect Omega pheromones in the air and looked at Tang Tianyun with a puzzled expression.
Tang Tianyun, sensing the intense Alpha pheromones in the room, wrinkled her nose slightly. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll take him away now.”
Feeling somewhat awkward, Lu Jinxi pressed down on the pheromone suppression patch at the back of her neck. Fearing Tang Tianyun might not be able to handle Luo Hong, she instinctively prepared to crouch down and lift him up.
But to her surprise, Tang Tianyun strode forward in quick steps. Before Lu Jinxi could even register her movements, Luo Hong was swiftly subdued with a textbook reverse wrist lock and handcuffed.
Tang Tianyun gave Lu Jinxi a polite nod. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.”
Lu Jinxi returned the nod. “Yes, thank you.”
