Omega Taming the Black Moonlight - Chapter 28
Originally, several people had gathered around Ji Yilian, eager to learn from her experience in using Spiritual Power.
However, when they sensed her sudden shift to a cold, imposing aura, they inexplicably shuddered and dared not speak further.
“She really is the Alliance’s young genius,” someone murmured, rubbing their arm. “Even without her saying a word, you can feel her arrogance.”
The person beside them scoffed. “That’s not arrogance, it’s presence. Her presence is just different. There’s a wall between us.”
“Would you dare say that to Ji Yilian’s face?”
“Absolutely not. You haven’t seen it. Once, someone confronted her, shouting arrogantly at her. The result? They had to be carried away.”
“Really? Is Ji Yilian that ruthless? I’ve noticed she doesn’t talk to us much, making her a bit unapproachable, but I didn’t think she was that intimidating.”
“That’s just how you see it. She usually doesn’t bother with us. But when it really matters, do you think a genius’s S-Class Spiritual Power is just for show?”
The surrounding crowd whispered among themselves, their conversation unconsciously revolving around Ji Yilian, even though she wasn’t sitting in the center but in a corner.
Yet wherever she sat, she inevitably became the center of attention.
But…
“Didn’t you guys say Ji Yilian doesn’t pay much attention to others? Why does she keep glancing in Bess’s direction? Her gaze is so cold—did Bess offend her?”
“I doubt it. Bess is pretty well-liked. She seems carefree on the surface, but she’s actually quite tactful. Still, you’re right—Ji Yilian really is staring at Bess…”
Someone murmured, “Could it be that Ji Yilian isn’t looking at Bess, but at that Omega who awakened her Spiritual Body on the spot?”
The crowd erupted in murmurs.
“Wasn’t Ji Yilian’s opponent the day before yesterday that Omega?”
“What’s her name? Oh, I remember—Yan Liu!”
Yan Liu, who was talking to Bess, suddenly felt herself become the center of attention.
“What’s going on? Why are so many people staring at us?” she whispered.
Bess glanced back, her gaze meeting Ji Yilian’s, and drawled, “Oh—you’re Ji Yilian’s opponent. Everyone’s watching that.”
“So, Little Sweet O, nervous?”
Bess grinned, even taking a moment to flip her auburn hair.
Yan Liu noticed the blue crystal necklace around Bess’s neck and couldn’t resist asking, “What’s this? You and Ji Yilian both have necklaces like this.”
Bess’s expression shifted to surprise. “You don’t know?”
“A-Class Alphas and above, who haven’t been paired in a political marriage or have a legal spouse, are required to wear these suppressors in all public settings.”
Her tone dripped with sarcasm, tinged with self-mockery. “It’s like training dogs. We want them to be fierce in battle but harmless to people. Just in case they lose control of their pheromones and Spiritual Power and accidentally harm someone.”
Yan Liu listened quietly, a sudden realization dawning on her.
Only now did she understand why, during their private training session, when Ji Yilian’s pheromones had surged out of control, the purple crystal necklace had suddenly glowed crimson, its light searingly bright.
“So… what happens if they lose control? What does the suppressor do?”
Since she’d already asked, Yan Liu wanted to understand the full implications. After all, she still felt a lingering unease when she was alone with Ji Yilian.
What if Ji Yilian suddenly lost control one day, overwhelmed by her instincts, and either terrified Yan Liu like she had that day, or worse, completely lost control? What would Yan Liu do then?
Recalling that day in the Training Room, when she lay on the floor like a small boat tossed about in a vast ocean, Yan Liu felt a fresh wave of fear.
It was terrifying.
Bess listened to Yan Liu’s questions, puzzled by her complete lack of understanding about basic Alpha information and limitations. Still, seeing Yan Liu’s overly innocent face, Bess decided to explain a bit more.
“If they lose control, the inhibitor isn’t just for show, you know?”
Bess’s expression twisted slightly, as if recalling a punishment so deeply ingrained it struck the very soul.
“In the end, so-called ‘geniuses’ are just more useful tools. Tools need to be controlled. How else would they function properly?”
Bess shrugged, then conjured a glass of red wine from thin air, swirling it in her hand.
Yan Liu was too preoccupied to fully grasp the implications of Bess’s words.
So, being a ‘genius’ in this interstellar setting has its downsides? Is it about a lack of freedom?
Her attention was immediately drawn to the red wine that had suddenly appeared in Bess’s hand.
“How did you conjure that out of thin air?” Yan Liu exclaimed, her eyes wide with astonishment.
Seeing Yan Liu’s surprise, Bess felt a surge of pride and handed her the glass of red wine.
“Don’t be so amazed. It’s just a little trinket with extended storage space.”
Her bracelet was packed with gourmet food and fine wines, specifically for celebrating her victories at any crucial moment.
“Want a glass? A few sips before the match will steady your nerves.”
Yan Liu was indeed feeling nervous. Hearing Bess’s invitation and admiring the wine’s rich color in the glass, she instinctively reached out her small hand to accept it, ready to take a sip.
Seeing Yan Liu’s complete lack of caution—even accepting wine from her extended storage space without hesitation—Bess’s eyes flashed with genuine surprise.
Such a naive Omega, with not a shred of self-preservation, she thought. No wonder she poured her heart and soul into Ji Yilian without ever being noticed. People who are too guileless often become invisible.
But that was the past.
A treasure deserves to be cherished by someone with discerning eyes, and Bess was determined to be that person.
Bess watched Yan Liu take two sips of the red wine, her delicate eyebrows furrowing slightly before relaxing. With a flick of her wrist, Bess conjured another glass of wine from her extended space.
“Wishing you good luck in the match.”
Though Bess knew Yan Liu stood almost no chance against Ji Yilian, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything discouraging, especially not to such a charming Little Sweet O right before the competition.
A proper Alpha should learn to be a gentleman and appreciate the beauty of every Omega, shouldn’t they?
Yan Liu had only intended to take a sip, but before she knew it, she had drained the entire glass.
This wine only looked like red wine; its aftereffects were surprisingly potent.
Within seconds, a rush of heat flooded her head, her cheeks flushing crimson, making her look like a ripe, rosy fruit.
Ah, why is this happening? My alcohol tolerance is so low!
Yan Liu and Yan Liu were both dazed, wondering if they might accidentally collapse in a drunken stupor when they faced Ji Yilian in the Arena later.
That would make me the most embarrassing competitor in the entire Arena Competition, wouldn’t it?
Just as Ji Yilian crossed Yan Liu’s mind, a figure suddenly appeared before her.
From the slender shape of those long legs alone, Yan Liu recognized Ji Yilian had come looking for her.
“…What are you doing?”
Standing so tall, Ji Yilian blocked all the light when she stood in front of Yan Liu.
The slightly tipsy Omega’s voice had already taken on a soft, drunken warmth, making Yan Liu’s ears tingle.
Ji Yilian didn’t answer Yan Liu’s question. Instead, she pulled Yan Liu behind her and glanced up at Bess.
“You’re getting her drunk?”
The Alpha’s face was cold and expressionless, her only tell being a slight lift of her eyebrows. Her lips were pressed into a thin line, and her eyes burned with a dangerous, icy light.
In that moment, she resembled a wolf king guarding its mate, her entire aura radiating aggression and dominance.
