Omega Taming the Black Moonlight - Chapter 31
Yan Liu couldn’t quite grasp what Bess was getting at, and her confusion showed on her face.
Bess watched her with amusement.
“It seems I’ve shaken your resolve.”
Yan Liu pressed her lips together.
“I don’t quite understand.”
And…
“If you say all Alphas are cunning, why are you telling me this? Aren’t you afraid I’ll lump you in with them?”
Bess’s eyes lit up at this.
“Little Sweet O, I enjoy talking to people with brains and character.”
“Yes, exactly! That’s right.”
Bess chuckled. “I’m cunning too.”
Yan Liu shook her head.
“You’re remarkably candid.” She truly didn’t know what else to say.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that since transmigrating to this small world, she’d found few truly normal people around her.
How to describe it? In her original world, not so many people spent their days fixating on romanceable targets, constantly emitting pheromones, and thinking about flirting and dating.
But here, whether it was Ji Yilian or Bess, they all seemed like characters with meticulously crafted personalities from a novel.
Every word they spoke seemed laced with flirtation and probing, designed to stir ripples in her heart.
Bess glanced meaningfully at the medical pod in the lounge. “You won this round, and on the surface, you seem to have the upper hand. But you might soon be swept into even greater storms.”
Yan Liu keenly sensed that Bess’s words carried a hidden meaning.
“Are you saying more people will challenge me in the future?”
Bess simply smiled, refusing to elaborate. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Some truths lose their intrigue when revealed too plainly. The world thrives on drama and excitement.
Seeing Bess’s reluctance to speak plainly, Yan Liu averted her gaze. “I hate how you people only say half of what you mean.”
Bess leaned closer. “Little Sweet O, will you be my girlfriend? If you were, I’d tell you everything you want to know, no strings attached.”
The words slipped out effortlessly, sending Yan Liu scrambling backward.
“No.”
Conquering Ji Yilian had already exhausted her. She had no energy to get entangled in a love triangle, especially with someone as unpredictable as Bess.
“Oh, I envy Ji Yilian so much. To have someone like you, her childhood sweetheart, still thinking of her.” Bess clutched her chest, feigning heartbreak at the rejection. “Yan Liu, you’re one of the few Omegas who’ve ever turned me down. You’re truly special.”
As Bess spoke, her tone carried a hint of sincerity, her green eyes gazing at Yan Liu with an inexplicable tenderness.
Yan Liu’s head began to ache instantly. She turned and hurried toward the lounge.
Goosebumps prickled across her skin. This wasn’t some cheesy idol drama; Bess’s gaze was far too intense.
Originally, Yan Liu had no desire to be alone in a room with Ji Yilian again, but conversing with Bess outside seemed equally unpleasant.
The feeling of being targeted by an Alpha, who was desperately trying to provoke her emotions and forge a deeper spiritual connection, was deeply unsettling.
Yan Liu resented being treated like prey—yes, prey.
It felt as though whoever “captured” her would gain prestige, proving their dominance.
Her appearance, marred by long-term malnutrition, was hardly striking; she was merely passable, her features plain.
There was no logical reason for anyone to value her so highly.
Yan Liu knew this all too well.
During their brief exchange, the medical pod slowly opened. The person inside had completed their treatment, and the pallor that had drained their face moments ago was now returning to a healthy flush.
Ji Yilian opened her eyes, her deep gaze immediately locking onto Yan Liu.
The instant their eyes met, Yan Liu felt an inexplicable unease.
The elegant Omega didn’t betray her emotions, forcing herself to remain calm.
“How are you feeling?” she asked, stepping closer and looking at Ji Yilian with a complex expression.
She had defeated Ji Yilian, and she should have been happy.
But there were two possibilities:
First, Ji Yilian had deliberately let her win, holding back so she could win by chance.
Second, Ji Yilian’s old injury had genuinely flared up, making her victory unfair—merely taking advantage of someone’s misfortune rather than winning through skill. At best, it could only be considered good luck.
No matter which scenario Yan Liu considered, she couldn’t find any joy in it.
Before transmigrating, she had always relied on her academic prowess to dominate, rarely encountering such frustrating situations.
Being constantly overshadowed by Ji Yilian was deeply unsettling.
The Omega slowly approached Ji Yilian, her hands hanging at her sides but clenched into tight fists.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” she urged softly.
Ji Yilian replied, “I heard everything you said earlier.”
Her response seemed completely unrelated to the question.
Yet Yan Liu’s heart skipped a beat. When she realized what Ji Yilian meant, she felt a sudden pang of guilt.
“Oh,” the girl murmured, parting her lips slightly and averting her gaze.
She hadn’t said anything bad about Ji Yilian to Bess, so why was she being so hostile?
Bess had already nodded to Ji Yilian as she woke up and quietly left the room.
Clearly, this guy understood exactly when to initiate a conversation.
Like now, for example. The S-class Alpha inside was radiating a palpable aura of hostility, like a pack leader whose territory had been violated, her gaze sharp and unfriendly.
Only a fool would stay here and continue to clash head-on with someone like that.
When you lack the strength to confront someone directly, you need strategy. You need to be smart about it.
If she wanted to steal Ji Yilian’s thunder, there would be countless opportunities. There was no need to do it right under Ji Yilian’s nose.
Yan Liu turned around to find Bess already gone.
Now, only she and Ji Yilian remained in the lounge.
It wasn’t the first time they’d been alone together, but Yan Liu still felt awkward about the atmosphere between them.
“I’m asking you… was that really just an old injury acting up?”
After a moment’s hesitation, Yan Liu finally voiced the question.
Ji Yilian seemed to find the question amusing, offering a slight, mocking smile.
“What else could it be?”
“How else would you explain today’s match? Do you think I threw the game on purpose? Am I crazy?”
What an arrogant Alpha.
Yan Liu knew this was the truth, but hearing it from Ji Yilian’s mouth, dripping with sarcasm, made her feel uneasy.
“Just don’t let me win on purpose,” she muttered, pursing her lips and turning to leave.
After all, Ji Yilian now seemed perfectly fine, fully recovered and brimming with energy.
There was no need for Yan Liu to feel guilty.
Pitying an Alpha was a dead end.
Yan Liu walked away without looking back, but the person behind her grabbed her wrist, yanking her back.
“Wait.”
Only after pulling Yan Liu close did Ji Yilian suddenly remember their earlier agreement.
She forced herself to release Yan Liu’s wrist, a complex expression flickering across her delicate features.
“Where are you going?” she asked, her voice tinged with helplessness.
Yan Liu refused to acknowledge her. “I’m going home.”
The competition was over. What else was there to do here?
Ji Yilian could tell Yan Liu was angry, likely because of her earlier response.
She remained silent, circling around to stand in front of Yan Liu and leaning down slightly to meet her gaze.
“How did you do that earlier?”
Yan Liu froze, looking up at her in surprise. “What?”
Ji Yilian tapped her temple. “Here. Your Spiritual Power entered.”
Her fingers were slender and elegant, each one as white as jade, with nails that glowed a delicate pink.
Yet, her face was too exquisitely refined and coldly alluring. When she tapped her index finger against her temple, it didn’t seem like normal conversation at all, but rather like she was wielding some kind of Alpha charm.
Yan Liu pressed her lips together, her heart rippling with countless tiny waves. She desperately tried to ignore the strange sensation Ji Yilian evoked in her, but couldn’t resist asking:
“Are you saying… you were actually affected by my attack? Back in the Arena?”
Was Ji Yilian’s condition more than just a recurrence of an old injury?
Noticing the girl’s insecurity, Ji Yilian slowly curved her lips into a smile.
The moment she smiled, her icy demeanor vanished completely, replaced by the overwhelming aura of a great beauty. Yan Liu was stunned by the sudden transformation.
“That move of yours was truly remarkable,” Ji Yilian said, straightening her posture. Dark strands of hair fell across her forehead, partially obscuring her eyes, but her gaze held an encouraging warmth that seemed to melt away all hesitation.
Caught off guard by Ji Yilian’s praise, Yan Liu felt utterly flustered. She even took a half-step back, her mouth opening and closing soundlessly.
The scumbag Alpha, the black moonlight, was praising her.
How should I respond?
Help! Her smile is too beautiful. I can’t bring myself to hate her anymore!
