- Chapter 54 - To Be My Girlfriend, You Must Be Obedient
The manager was overjoyed and immediately instructed staff to prepare a formal contract in black ink on white paper for Yan Liu to sign.
Even in the Interstellar Era, handwritten contracts and signatures on paper remained crucial forms of verification.
Humans, with their deep-rooted cultural heritage, tended to cling to tradition.
Their civilization manifested in every aspect of life—from culinary practices to the continued use of paper—each a testament to their enduring legacy.
Yan Liu signed her full name, carefully reviewed the contract terms, and was thoroughly satisfied with the offered salary.
Ah, starting today, I’m finally earning a fixed wage!
She only needed to visit the facility once or twice a month.
Using her Spiritual Power to scan the area, she would identify any primitive animals exhibiting abnormalities, marking them as her task completion.
For each animal with physical anomalies she discovered, Yan Liu would receive a bonus on top of her base salary.
“We’ll deposit Star Coins into your personal account on time. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie,” the manager said, gesturing to the veterinarian standing nearby.
Jamie, a Beta, was usually reserved, but when it came to the primitive animals—a cause to which he had dedicated his life since childhood—he would suddenly become remarkably talkative.
“Don’t worry, the underwater restaurant is a place full of warmth and camaraderie. You’ll enjoy working here,” Jamie said, his enthusiasm bubbling over as he realized Yan Liu would be his future colleague.
Yan Liu smiled, about to respond, when Ji Yilian suddenly grabbed her wrist.
“Let’s go,” Ji Yilian said, pulling her away.
Before Yan Liu could even say goodbye, she was being led out of the underwater restaurant.
Back in the aircraft, she replayed the events in her mind.
Who knew a casual remark could blossom into something so significant?
I have a job offer now!
Compared to her identity as an S-Rank Healer, Yan Liu actually preferred the job she’d just secured.
The hours were short, the pay was excellent, and the work wasn’t beyond her capabilities. All she needed to do was periodically scan the underwater creatures with her Spiritual Power.
Moreover, she’d earned this position because she’d demonstrated her Spiritual Power abilities.
In other words, her demonstrated value matched her compensation.
She wouldn’t have to worry about being “unworthy of her position.”
But the S-Rank Healer status was different. Yan Liu still felt a bit dazed by it.
Her Healer account was flooded with invitations from people eager to become her Healing clients for the next year.
Each offer came with an exorbitant fee, so high that Yan Liu had grown numb to the numbers.
Yan Liu was avoiding facing her work as a Healer, afraid she wouldn’t be good enough.
Wait a minute…Â Yan Liu turned to look at Ji Yilian.
Is there something wrong with Ji Yilian’s Spiritual Body?
Why do both Instructor Green Silk and Ji Yilian need my Healing?
As her gaze fell on Ji Yilian, Yan Liu belatedly realized the other woman seemed a little unhappy.
“What’s wrong?” Yan Liu asked softly, moving closer to her. She was quite good at reading people’s expressions.
It was already late, and the aircraft’s lighting was a soft, warm white. Ji Yilian’s dark hair cascaded down, accentuating the luminous quality of her pale skin. Her features were exquisitely refined, but not in a seductive way; rather, they possessed the serene beauty of a secluded orchid, untouched by the world’s clamor. She exuded a sense of self-sufficiency, as if she could thrive even without anyone to admire or disturb her.
She was simply too beautiful, her expressionless face resembling a character from a two-dimensional world, somehow out of place in reality.
When Yan Liu asked if she was unhappy, Ji Yilian didn’t respond verbally, merely lowering her gaze slightly. In her bright, phoenix-shaped eyes, emotions swirled like ripples on a lake, concealing unspoken feelings.
“…Nothing,” she replied.
Yan Liu didn’t believe her for a moment. Over the past few weeks, she had come to understand Ji Yilian’s moods. When the other woman was in good spirits, she wasn’t this terse and expressionless.
Only children would believe what she says!
The girl couldn’t resist reaching out, her delicate hands cupping Ji Yilian’s face.
She had slowly grown a little bolder.
She now possessed the confidence to do whatever she pleased with Ji Yilian, unafraid of angering him.
And indeed, her actions proved true.
As she cradled Ji Yilian’s face in her hands, the man who had been radiating a gloomy aura just moments before visibly softened.
It was as if a grumpy cat had finally found the right way to be soothed.
The bristling fur and unsheathed claws, poised to strike, were all retracted by this unintentional act of tenderness from his master.
“Yi Yi, tell me, why were you upset earlier?”
With a new job offer in hand, Yan Liu’s mood was buoyant, and she felt motivated to properly pursue her romantic strategy.
Her voice softened, becoming an irresistible weapon.
As her gaze shifted, a faint shimmer of moisture seemed to well up in her eyes, instantly adding a touch of vulnerability to her expression.
Anyone meeting her gaze would feel the illusion of being cherished like a precious treasure.
At that moment, Ji Yilian knew that Yan Liu’s full attention was focused solely on her.
Unlike at the underwater restaurant, where marine creatures and other annoying passersby had vied for Yan Liu’s attention.
Sometimes, she wished she could tie Yan Liu to her side.
Ideally, Yan Liu’s gaze would never fall on anyone else, remaining fixed solely on her.
“Why did you accept that job?” Ji Yilian asked, puzzled.
Instead of pulling away from Yan Liu’s hands, she allowed the petite Omega to cradle her face.
Yan Liu replied without hesitation, “Because it’s a win-win situation! I get money, and I can help them. Isn’t that perfect?”
This explanation didn’t satisfy Ji Yilian.
If she could, she wouldn’t want Yan Liu to have any contact with outsiders.
“Society isn’t as simple as you think. Many people out there are dangerous,” Ji Yilian said, a faint smile tugging at her lips.
Yan Liu wrinkled her nose, clearly unconvinced. She could tell Ji Yilian was deliberately trying to scare her.
Is she… developing a possessive streak toward me?
To test this, Yan Liu leaned closer.
“Do you want another kiss?” she asked, biting her lip, her almond-shaped eyes glistening like those of a shy fawn.
Ji Yilian swallowed hard.
She thought she must have misheard. Her narrow, phoenix-like eyes fixed on Yan Liu, her gaze deepening.
“What do you mean?” she asked, her lips barely moving.
Ji Yilian hadn’t forgotten the kiss she had impulsively given Yan Liu at the underwater restaurant.
Yet the girl had looked so hurt, on the verge of tears.
That reaction hardly suggested she wanted another kiss.
Though the taste of that kiss lingered in her memory, Ji Yilian didn’t want to lose the whole watermelon for a sesame seed—to completely lose the girl’s favor, or worse, be hated.
“It’s just… you kissed me earlier,” Yan Liu said, her face flushed as she held Ji Yilian’s hands, her fingers trembling slightly.
This was the first time she had ever done something like this. Even though she knew it was part of her survival strategy, she still felt a pang of insecurity.
Is this considered a honey trap?
I’m actually doing something like this…
Ji Yilian gazed at the girl’s exquisite face, now so close, her eyes growing increasingly radiant and profound.
“You want me to kiss you again?” she asked, restraining herself from immediately seizing the girl’s hands and kissing her deeply. She needed to confirm.
Yan Liu bit her lip, annoyed by the intensity of Ji Yilian’s gaze. She turned her face away and said, “If… if you pass my test and become my girlfriend, then… I’ll let you kiss me.”
Ji Yilian nearly sprouted a puppy tail and started wagging it on the spot.
Her gaze burned even hotter as she stared at Yan Liu.
“What kind of test?”
Yan Liu’s hands trembled slightly before she withdrew them, a hint of shyness coloring her cheeks.
She wasn’t surprised. If she had maintained physical contact any longer, Ji Yilian would have lost control right there.
Ah, I want to take it back.
Why did I say that?
Yan Liu took a step back, her legs suddenly feeling weak under the intense gaze of Ji Yilian.
If Ji Yilian dared to kiss her like that at the underwater restaurant without even being her girlfriend, what would she do if they were officially together?
Yan Liu had only spoken impulsively, caught up in the moment. In truth, she hadn’t even thought about what kind of test to give Ji Yilian.
Now, pressed against the aircraft’s hatch, she bit her lower lip anxiously, her mind racing to come up with an answer.
“I… haven’t decided yet. But if you want to be my girlfriend, you have to be obedient and listen to me.”
Yan Liu didn’t forget to lay down the law first.
However, with her delicate, refined features and petite frame compared to Ji Yilian, even her sternest words sounded endearing.
Ji Yilian’s eyes remained fixed on her, practically pinning her against the wall, yet she seemed oblivious to the intensity of her gaze. She pressed on, “What else? What other requirements do you have?”
Her voice was slightly hoarse, clearly moved, and her eyes seemed even deeper than usual.
This intense gaze was almost impossible to withstand.
Ji Yilian possessed striking beauty, and Yan Liu began to panic under her focused, close-up scrutiny.
Her hands, hanging at her sides, clenched nervously at her clothes. Her almond-shaped eyes tried to avoid Ji Yilian’s gaze, but there was nowhere to escape in the confined space of the aircraft, where she was cornered.
This was essentially Ji Yilian’s territory.
Even without consciously sensing it, Yan Liu could feel Ji Yilian’s Spiritual Power enveloping her like a vast ocean, threatening to completely engulf her.
“I told you, I haven’t decided yet. Don’t ask me like that…”
Nervous, Yan Liu tried to create distance.
If she continued to meet Ji Yilian’s gaze, she feared her soul would be drawn into those eyes, and she’d blurt out something foolish.
“Anyway… you’re not allowed to kiss me like that again. We’re not even in a relationship yet.”
As she said this, Yan Liu flushed with embarrassment and indignation, glaring at Ji Yilian with a small expression full of thinly veiled anger.
“I can promise you that, but I can’t guarantee it,” Ji Yilian replied calmly, her lips pressed into a thin line.
This answer was worse than no answer at all. Yan Liu glared at her, huffing in frustration.
“You’re a pervert.”
Ji Yilian paused for a moment, then didn’t deny it.
“Hmm, indeed.”
