- Chapter 14 - "Does your boyfriend know that you slept with me?"
Wang Zhe looked a little surprised.
His boss came to the gate of A University on purpose, just to wait and ‘bump’ into a girl?
Was there some deep grudge between them that couldn’t be settled with a conversation?
“Got it.”
Wang Zhe took a deep breath and stepped on the gas.
With a sharp whoosh, the car sped forward.
Huo Jinyan’s dark eyes locked onto the road ahead, sharp and unblinking as the car shot forward.
Ning Xin’er was just about to go find Zeng Yi when a black car suddenly rushed straight toward her.
Her eyes widened in shock. By the time she realized what was happening, it was already too late.
With a loud thud, she fell to the ground.
Still in shock, she barely had time to recover when a mocking voice rang out.
“What’s wrong? Are your legs too weak to stand now?”
Her heart pounded wildly. She slowly looked up—only to meet a calm, handsome face of a man.
Her mind went blank. The car’s owner… was actually Huo Jinyan?!
Did he just try to run over her?!
Was he crazy? What had she done to provoke him?!
Huo Jinyan’s lips curled into a slight smile, showing no trace of guilt. His dazzling expression nearly blinded her.
“Mr. Huo, is messing with me looks fun?” Ning Xin’er glared at him angrily.
She pulled her legs back. Just a few centimeters more, and the heavy car tire would’ve crushed her ankle.
That was way too close!
Huo Jinyan frowned slightly. Mr. Huo?
Clearly, he wasn’t pleased with the way she addressed him.
His eyes looked over her bent leg before he said indifferently, “Get in the car.”
Ning Xin’er sneered. “Did a donkey kick your head or something?”
First, he tried to run over her. Now, he wanted her to get in the car?
The fact that she was already being generous for not demanding any compensation for her emotional stress because of what he’d done and now he wanted me on his car?!
She gave Huo Jinyan a glare, then stubbornly stood up and walked away without looking back.
“Xin’er, what happened?” Zeng Yi ran over to her.
Just as Ning Xin’er was about to speak, several men in black suits suddenly appeared.
Zeng Yi frowned and immediately stepped in front of her. “What do you want?”
The men surrounded them, their expressions are cold and without any emotion. “Miss Ning, our master wants you to get in the car.”
Ning Xin’er was annoyed. “Tell your master, I’m not going.”
The bodyguards didn’t respond. They just stood there, blocking their path.
“Xin’er, who are they?”Zeng Yi whispered cautiously.
“Don’t worry, it’s okay.” Ning Xin’er patted her hands to reassure her.
Zeng Yi nodded doubtfully.
Their atmosphere was tense for a few minutes, and then one of the bodyguards in received a call.
“Miss Ning, please take this call.”
She sighed from frustration and took the phone.
Huo Jinyan’s voice came through immediately.
“If you don’t get in the car, then your friend…”
Ning Xin’er choked upon hearing Huo Jinyan.
Is he threatening me by using my friend?!
After a brief moment of hesitation, she finally spoke. “Fine, I’ll come.”
She handed the phone back to the bodyguard, then turned to Zeng Yi. “Go have lunch, don’t worry about me. I’ll be back at the dorm soon.”
“But… Xin’er, maybe we should call the police.”
“No need. It’s my brother who’s looking for me. It’s nothing serious.”
“When did you get a brother?”
“I’ll explain later when I get back. Just go eat and rest in the dorm, okay?”
After reminding Zeng Yi, Ning Xin’er followed the group of bodyguards toward the car.
Zeng Yi watched her leave, her face full of worry.
She had never heard Ning Xin’er mention having a brother. What was really going on?
Wait—maybe she should ask Xin’er’s boyfriend, the campus heartthrob, Huo Jingtian.
He might know something.
…
Ning Xin’er was pushed into the car, and the partition slowly rose.
Huo Jinyan sat with his legs crossed. His arms draped lazily over the seat, studying her with an unreadable expression.
“Why didn’t you reply to my text?”
He rolled his phone casually in one hand.
“??? What text?” Ning Xin’er was confused.
They didn’t even have each other’s contact information. How could there be a text?
Huo Jinyan’s hand paused slightly before he raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t see it last night?”
Last night?
Ning Xin’er thought for a moment before suddenly recalling something. She looked up in surprise.
“You mean that scam message?”
“So you were the one who sent that?!”
Huo Jinyan’s face darkened.
She actually didn’t recognize his number.
He had kept the same number for the past three years—refusing to change it, just in case…
Yet, Ning Xin’er had completely forgotten it?!
“Yeah, I sent it. Save my number.”
His tone was impatient.
Ning Xin’er frowned. Why would I need to save his number?
“You hear me?”
“Uh… I already deleted the message, so I don’t know the number anymore.” She shrank back slightly, trying to explain.
Huo Jinyan: “……”
She had made him speechless once again.
Without another word, he snatched her phone, unlocked it, and saved his number himself.
“Hey! Why are you adding me on WeChat?!”
Ning Xin’er watched in disbelief as he continued scanning and adding his contact.
“As your brother, I can’t even have your WeChat?” He shot her a glance before pressing accept.
Ning Xin’er: “……”
Technically, that made sense… but their so-called sibling relationship wasn’t that close.
“All done? Great, I’m leaving now.” She moved to get out of the car.
Huo Jinyan casually hooked his long leg around her waist, effortlessly pulling her into his arms.
“What’s the rush?”
Ning Xin’er was suddenly trapped against him.
The warmth of his body startled her.
“Jinyan-ge, please have some respect. I have a boyfriend.”
“Oh? Now you remember to call me ‘ge’?”
Huo Jinyan lowered his head slightly, his deep voice brushing against her ear.
“The guy you were talking to at the school gate—is he your boyfriend?”
Huo Jinyan knew Ning Xin’er never got too close to random guys. She had her own set of boundaries.
Unless… that guy was actually her boyfriend.
“Yeah, he’s my boyfriend. Not bad, right?” Ning Xin’er pulled away from his embrace.
“You sure he’s taller than me? More handsome than me? And richer than me?”
Huo Jinyan raised an eyebrow, his voice full of mocking amusement.
Ning Xin’er hesitated.
She was surprised he still remembered what she had said last time.
Seeing that her little “lie” was about to be exposed, she forced herself to stay calm.
After a brief pause, she defended her “boyfriend.”
“He’s tall and handsome too. You two are about the same level… just different styles, so there’s no point on comparing.”
It was true. They were both very good-looking—just in completely different ways.
Huo Jingtian liked wearing white shirts with jeans and giving off a cool, effortless charm.
Meanwhile, Huo Jinyan always wore black suits that exudes elegance and authority.
Cough cough… You could even say…
Huo Jinyan had that dangerous, suit-clad villain vibe.
“As for the money part… yeah, he’s not as rich as you but that doesn’t matter. Money is just an external thing—as long as it’s enough, that’s all that matters.”
Ning Xin’er knew Huo Jingtian was well-off, but he definitely wasn’t as wealthy as Huo Jinyan.
In fact, there probably wasn’t anyone in Yun City richer than Huo Jinyan.
They didn’t call him the Crown Prince of Yun City for nothing.
Huo Jinyan’s eyes darkened.
Was she really this protective of her so-called boyfriend?
Not even allowing a single bad word about him?
He closed his eyes briefly before suddenly pulling her close again with a devilish smile on his lips.
“Does your boyfriend know… that you slept with me?”
