- Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: “You don’t mean a boyfriend brother, do you?”
Ning Xin’er’s froze.
The painful memories came back and made her regret it once again. Just thinking about having slept with a man who already had a fiancée made her feel extremely uncomfortable.
“So, does President Huo think it’s appropriate to hold me like this?”
She shook her arms and grabbed the hands that were wrapped around her. “Aren’t you afraid your beloved girlfriend will get mad?”
She deliberately emphasized the words beloved girlfriend.
She still remembered the phone call Huo Jinyan had answered on the balcony last time—how he had laughed so genuinely. That kind of happiness couldn’t be faked. He clearly loved his girlfriend deeply!
Huo Jinyan pinched the bridge of his nose. Calling me ‘President Huo’ again.
“Girlfriend? I’ve never had another girlfriend. From beginning to end, you were the only one.”
His words were slow and precise—like each one hitting her like a hammer.
I was the only one?
Ning Xin’er was stunned for a moment, but she quickly dismissed the thought. He was always good with sweet talk and deception.
She was already been fooled once, three years ago; isn’t that enough?
“Heh. Even if you don’t have a girlfriend, President Huo, you do have a fiancée.”
Her laugh carried a hint of sarcasm.
Fiancée—a title far more significant than girlfriend.
After all, the one who would actually marry him… was his fiancée.
Huo Jinyan was speechless.
He had no idea how she found out about that. He had never told her anything about what happened three years ago.
Besides, back then, in her eyes, he was just… poor and a nobody.
Yes, at the time, he had hidden his real identity. He had pursued her for six months, pretending to be an ordinary, struggling young man—just to win her over.
“President Huo, you really are a master of deception. Three years ago, you lied to me about being poor and hid the fact that you already had a fiancée. What a brilliant scheme.”
Huo Jinyan didn’t deny it.
To Ning Xin’er, that was as good as an admission.
What puzzled her was how he remained so calm, as if being exposed didn’t bother him at all.
Was lying just second nature to him?
“Then what about you? Disappearing without a word and breaking up with me all on your own—how do you explain that?”Huo Jinyan’s expression darkened as he stared at her, looking frustrated.
He remembered it clearly. One day, out of nowhere, he had received a breakup text.
By the time he tried to do something about it, she had already blocked every way he could contact her. She even deactivated her phone number.
From that moment on, she vanished completely.
When he later went to her school to find her, the principal told him that Ning Xin’er had gone abroad.
She left the country… just to escape from me?
Ning Xin’er took a deep breath. So this is his so-called justification?
“President Huo, you were the one who told me to get lost. You said you were done with me. Was I supposed to shamelessly beg to the man who deceived me… and to not throw me away?”
Her voice trembled slightly.
Back then, Huo Jinyan had never once explained his identity to her.
He had deceived her while hurting her at the same time.
Huo Jinyan fell silent, lowering his head.
“This is your reason for breaking up?”He finally asked, looking up at her.
Ning Xin’er’s eyes turned cold. She hadn’t expected him to have the audacity to ask that. Wasn’t it obvious?
“I’m hungry. I have class in the afternoon. I’m leaving.”
She didn’t want to argue anymore—she just wanted to eat.
At that moment, her stomach let out a loud growl.
But she wasn’t embarrassed at all.
Everyone gets hungry. So what?
What’s there to be embarrassed about?
But before Ning Xin’er could leave, Huo Jinyan grabbed her arm again, holding her firmly in place.
“Eat in the car. I brought this just for you.”
His tone left no room for refusal. No matter how much she struggled, he refused to let go.
“Eat first, then I’ll let you go.”
In the end, Ning Xin’er gave in to his stubbornness. Fine, I’ll eat. But after that, I’m leaving!
A small table unfolded in front of her, and Huo Jinyan pulled out a neatly stacked set of meal boxes from who knows where he get them.
He placed them one by one in front of her—four meat dishes, two vegetable dishes, and a serving of rice.
Ning Xin’er picked up the chopsticks and started eating. Strangely enough… everything was exactly what she liked.
She didn’t bother asking if he was going to eat too.
Huo Jinyan also remained silent, simply watching her intently as she ate. Ning Xin’er ignored his stare and focused on her meal.
Twenty minutes later, she set down her chopsticks, feeling full.
“Can I go now? ”
Huo Jinyan’s deep, dark eyes locked onto hers. His voice was low and husky as he said, “Let’s forget the past and start over. What do you think?”
Ning Xin’er didn’t answer. She met his gaze and stared at him for a moment.
Then, with an expressionless face, she said, “For Uncle Song’s sake, we can be like siblings. Just siblings.”
Without waiting for a response, she opened the car door and left.
Since her story with Huo Jinyan couldn’t come to a clean ending, changing their relationship was the next best option.
Uncle Song liked it. Her mother liked it. She could accept it too.
Jinyan-gege… then he’ll just be my brother.
Huo Jinyan watched her disappearing figure, not closing the car door for a long time.
His mind drifted back to the past.
Back then, she had stood at this very school gate, jumping excitedly into his arms.
“Ah Yan, this is my new school! We can see each other every day from now on!”
“Alright, we’ll see each other every day.”
And from that day on, they really did.
He had always finished his work as quickly as possible, making sure to be there on time to pick her up.
At that time, she was still a young university student, innocent and carefree. Now, she had matured. The baby fat on her face had faded, making her even more beautiful and gorgeous.
Back then, he had only been in charge of the Huo Corporation for less than two years.
Time had passed. Now, he was a seasoned businessman, decisive and strategic, leading the company to one success after another.
In Yun City, there was hardly anyone who didn’t know his name.
He was the heir of the Huo family—the powerful and renowned Huo Jinyan.
At that moment, Wang Zhe, who had been sent away on an errand, returned. He checked the time—just as his boss had instructed—and arrived right on schedule.
“President Huo, should we head back to the office?”
“Let’s go.”
Huo Jinyan finally looked away and shut the car door.

After entering the school gate, Ning Xin’er headed straight back to her dorm.
Just as she reached the dormitory building, she spotted Huo Jingtian.
Wasn’t he supposed to be having hotpot with Qiao Shan? Why is he back so soon?
The moment Huo Jingtian saw her, he rushed over, his face filled with worry.
“Xin’er, who took you away?”
Zeng Yi had found him earlier, right when he was halfway through his meal with Qiao Shan. The moment he heard that Ning Xin’er had been taken away, he had dropped everything and rushed back to school, searching for her everywhere.
When he couldn’t find her, he simply decided to wait outside her dorm.
He had even been debating whether to ask his brother for help—until she finally showed up, safe and sound.
Ning Xin’er smirked. “Why aren’t you with your precious girlfriend? What do you want from me?”
But instead of answering, Huo Jingtian grabbed her shoulders and examined her carefully. “Zeng Yi told me everything. Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
Ning Xin’er and Huo Jingtian usually treated each other like bros. She wasn’t used to his sudden display of concern.
She casually brushed off his hands and smiled lightly. “I just met up with my brother. What could possibly happen?”
Huo Jingtian froze. “Brother? Since when did you have a brother?”
Then, as if realizing something, his expression turned serious.
He narrowed his eyes at her and asked, “You don’t mean a boyfriend brother, do you?”
