- Chapter 17 - Call the Parents!
In the counselor’s office.
Ms. Yin, the academic counselor of Ning Xin’er’s major, was staring directly at her.
The atmosphere in the room was cold and tense.
Ning Xin’er sat there with her head lowered.
“You are all university students, yet you still get into fights?” Ms. Yin scolded them in disbelief.
“It was all Ning Xin’er’s fault! She tried to steal my man, and when she couldn’t, she attacked me! ” The chubby girl spoke first.
Ning Xin’er sighed. She was still wondering how to handle the situation.
The counselor had asked her to call her parents. But she was already an adult! What kind of university still called parents for things like this? Even elementary school kids would laugh at her!
She was not strong in fights, but admitting defeat was her specialty.
Deep down, she was frustrated. What bad luck to run into a crazy girl blinded by love.
No, worse—a love-struck fool who had lost all reason!
“Ning Xin’er, what do you have to say?” Ms. Yin stood in front of her, frowning.
She looked up helplessly, her eyes full of innocence. “Ms. Yin, it wasn’t me.”
Her face had a few bruises, her clothes were stained with black ink, and her hair was messy. She looked completely untidy.
Her clear eyes shimmered with tears, making her look even more pitiful.
Ms. Yin sighed. “I believe you.”
Ning Xin’er was an outstanding student who received scholarships every year. Ms. Yin had worked with her many times and knew her character well.
Ms. Yin turned to Mr. Wang, the other counselor present.
“Mr. Wang, there must be some misunderstanding. Ning Xin’er has always been well-behaved. She wouldn’t start a fight.”
Mr. Wang slammed his hand on the table. “Are you saying my student was the one who started it?”
“Ms. Yin, don’t forget that we are working together on a research project. If you don’t handle this fairly, it could damage our professional relationship.”
Ms. Yin had only been working for two years. This was her first job as a university counselor. Compared to her, Mr. Wang was a senior staff member.
The chubby girl, Wang Niu, was Mr. Wang’s niece and also a student from a neighboring university.
“Mr. Wang, let’s be fair. Wang Niu entered our campus without permission and attacked Ning Xin’er. We cannot ignore that.”
Ms. Yin remained firm.
She trusted Ning Xin’er and wanted to protect her as a teacher should.
“Besides, your student is obsessed with our school’s most popular boy. She was jealous of Ning Xin’er, who happens to be his girlfriend. So, she came to attack her.”
Mr. Wang hesitated and glanced at Wang Niu.
Wang Niu defended herself. “It was Ning Xin’er who refused to leave the campus prince alone! She kept clinging to him! Of course, she deserved to be taught a lesson. And she was the one who hit me first!”
She then pointed at her swollen face.
She leaned closer to Ms. Yin, showing her injuries as proof.
Ms. Yin was speechless.
Looking at both girls, Wang Niu did seem more injured.
Her clothes were neat, and her hair was tidy, but her face was swollen, and her arms were bruised.
On the other hand, Ning Xin’er only had a couple of bruises on her face. Her hair was messy, and her clothes were dirty, but she didn’t look as physically hurt as Wang Niu.
Maybe it was because Ning Xin’er was naturally pretty. Her delicate features made her look more pitiful.
Ms. Yin coughed and leaned closer to Ning Xin’er, whispering, “I’ll ask again. Did Wang Niu hit you first?”
Ning Xin’er nodded quickly. “She entered the campus and started attacking me right away.”
Ms. Yin nodded and patted her shoulder.
Then she looked at Mr. Wang and said firmly, “Mr. Wang, your student entered our campus without a pass. She started the fight, so it doesn’t make sense to say Ning Xin’er was the one who attacked her.”
Mr. Wang hesitated and looked at Wang Niu with doubt.
“Ms. Yin, Wang Niu may be obsessed with the campus prince, but she wouldn’t start a fight.”
The two teachers kept arguing while Ning Xin’er and Wang Niu glared at each other.
Mr. Wang insisted on calling Ning Xin’er’s parents.
As Wang Niu’s guardian, he was already there, but Ning Xin’er’s parents hadn’t shown up yet.
Ning Xin’er was troubled. The security cameras had blind spots, so there was no clear footage of what had happened. The other cameras were unavailable because of the weekend.
After thinking for a while, she decided to call Huo Jingtian. He was the one who had caused all this mess!
But his phone was off.
He was probably busy with his real girlfriend.
Ning Xin’er stared at her phone, thinking hard. Who else could she call?
Her mother and stepfather were too far away in the south.
Biting her lip, she opened a contact saved earlier that day—Huo Jinyan’s number.
She called, and the call was answered in seconds.
“What’s wrong?” His deep voice came through the phone.
Ning Xin’er hesitated, then spoke slowly. “Jinyan, can you come help me?”
Huo Jinyan was in an international video meeting when he heard her words. He froze.
Help her?
His brows furrowed. Since when did Ning Xin’er ask for his help like this?
Did someone bully her?
“Where are you? Send me the address. I’m coming.”
Huo Jinyan immediately paused his meeting, grabbed his coat, and headed for the parking lot with his assistant, Wang Zhe.
As they drove, Ning Xin’er explained everything that had happened.
Huo Jinyan quickly understood the situation. So, she had been falsely accused by a chubby girl.
She always acted tough in front of him, but now she couldn’t even defend herself?
Huo Jinyan frowned. “Wang Zhe, get the university’s security footage.”
Wang Zhe nodded and opened his laptop.
Besides being Huo Jinyan’s assistant and driver, Wang Zhe was also a skilled hacker.
Back in the office, Ms. Yin was helping Ning Xin’er clean her wounds.
“Are you sure your brother will come?” she asked.
“I’m sure. He said he would, so he won’t break his promise.” Ning Xin’er lowered her gaze.
As soon as she finished speaking, the office door swung open.
A tall man stepped inside.
He was dressed in a sharp suit, his chiseled features strikingly handsome. His long legs were wrapped in tailored pants, and his entire presence radiated elegance and power.
Everyone in the room froze except for Ning Xin’er.
Without acknowledging the others, Huo Jinyan walked straight to her.
He stopped beside her, his deep voice filled with disdain.
“So weak. You got beaten up this badly?”
