- Chapter 4 - "School Boyfriend"
“What do you think of Xin’er?”
Huo Jinyan was slightly taken aback and looked up in confusion.
“I mean, how do you feel about having Xin’er as your little sister?”
Song Yan smiled, the corners of his lips curving up. The way he looked at Ning Xin’er was as if he were gazing at his own daughter. “Xin’er, like her mother, has a bit of a stubborn streak.”
“In Yun City from now on, keep an eye on her for me.”
“Since Third Uncle sees her as his own daughter, you should treat her as your little sister too.”
Song Yan patted Huo Jinyan on the shoulder. He remembered how, when Ning Xin’er was little, she would always cling to him and ask:
“Uncle Song, why do other kids have siblings, but I don’t? Can you and Mom give me a big brother or a little brother too?”
Now, in a way, he had finally given her a brother, hadn’t he?
Huo Jinyan was stunned.
Stubborn? Yeah, she was definitely that.
As for treating her like a real sister… Well, that remained to be seen.
“Hmm. Don’t worry, Third Uncle. As Xin’er’s brother, I’ll make sure to take good care of her,” Huo Jinyan quickly agreed. This arrangement suited him just fine.
Huo Jinyan had lost his father at the age of six, and ever since then, his Third Uncle had cared for him like a father. Their relationship had always been close.

The day finally came to a satisfying end. After dinner, Ning Xin’er and her family got into the car to head home.
Uncle Song, Song Yan, was driving, while her mother, Wen Nuan, sat in the passenger seat.
Ning Xin’er leaned back in the rear seat, closing her eyes for a quick nap. So getting married was this exhausting, huh? Even as a bystander, she felt completely drained.
When she got married in the future, she’d definitely keep things simple.
She had a dream—she was getting married. The wedding was indeed simple. Extremely simple.
But who on earth was capable of winning her over?
Just as she was about to get a good look at the groom’s face, her phone started buzzing non-stop, jolting her awake.
Ning Xin’er smacked her forehead and groggily grabbed her phone, grumbling, “I didn’t even get to see who it was.”
She tapped open WeChat and was immediately greeted by a series of relentless “pokes” from Zeng Yi.
“What is it, my dear Miss Zeng?” Ning Xin’er sent a voice message. Zeng Yi was one of her university roommates and a close friend.
The reply came almost instantly: “My dear Miss Ning! Hurry and check the school forum! The campus heartthrob just confessed to you again—publicly!”
Ning Xin’er was instantly wide awake, sitting up straight in shock.
Confession? Campus heartthrob?
Again?!
She quickly opened the A University forum and navigated to the confession wall.
“Today marks the 110th day since my dear Xin’er returned to the country, and my 11th confession to her: Ning Xin’er, my beloved girlfriend, I love you.”
Staring at the message, Ning Xin’er’s eyelid twitched.
She couldn’t bear to look. Really, she just couldn’t.
“Your boyfriend is so romantic! He checks in at the school confession wall every day. Eleven public confessions in just over three months!”
Zeng Yi sent a voice message.
“Do you want this kind of romance?” Ning Xin’er rubbed her forehead, speechless.
Huo Jingtian had one of his “episodes” every ten days. As the campus heartthrob, could he not act a little more mature?
“Our campus heartthrob is drop-dead gorgeous, but I can’t handle this kind of love. You enjoy it instead.” Zeng Yi replied, adding a playful tongue-out emoji.
Ning Xin’er: “………..”
“Go to bed early. I’ll deal with him when I get back to school tomorrow. Ծ‸Ծ”
“Got it, Miss Ning. Sleep well~”

“Xin’er, get out of the car. We’re home.”
Just as she put her phone away, the car had already stopped in the underground garage. Her mother, Wen Nuan, gently reminded her.
“Coming.” Ning Xin’er opened the door, hopped out, and helped carry their things. “Uncle Song, let me take this.”
Uncle Song Yan handed her the smallest bag with a smile. “Xin’er, you carry this little one.”
Just as she reached out to take it, a larger hand covered hers. A deep, magnetic voice spoke: “I’ll carry it.”
Ning Xin’er froze.
Huo Jinyan? Why was he here?
She widened her eyes and glanced behind them. Sure enough, a Cayenne was parked right behind their car—it was obviously his.
She had been too focused on her phone earlier and didn’t even notice there was another car following them!
Seeing her dumbfounded expression, Song Yan spoke first. “Your brother said he’s not used to staying in hotels, so he’s staying at our place tonight.”
Staying at their house?
Hotel rooms costing tens of thousands a night weren’t comfortable enough for him?
Ning Xin’er was skeptical. “Brother, are you sure you’ll be comfortable in our small villa?”
Huo Jinyan raised an eyebrow and smirked mischievously. “Very comfortable.”
With that, he strode toward the elevator.
Ning Xin’er rolled her eyes. He was really taking this “big brother” thing seriously, acting like some VIP guest.
“Xin’er, hurry up.” Her mother, Wen Nuan, was waiting ahead.
Ning Xin’er quickly caught up.
As they walked, Song Yan chatted with Huo Jinyan. “Hopefully, this year, Uncle Song can get you and your mom a bigger villa.”
“Health comes first, work second. As long as you and my mom are happy, that’s what matters most.”
Back when they lived in a small town in the south, their old apartment had terrible soundproofing.
Now, their living conditions were a hundred times better. She was more than satisfied with their current life.
Most importantly, her mom had someone to keep her company. Now that Ning Xin’er was studying in Yun City, she no longer had to worry about her mother being alone at home.
“You,” her mother chuckled, gently ruffling Ning Xin’er’s hair. “You’re about to graduate. When are you bringing your campus heartthrob boyfriend home?”
“Your Uncle Song and I will check him out for you.”
They had just stepped into the elevator when she said this.
The moment the word “boyfriend” was spoken—
The air suddenly turned a little… chilly.
Ning Xin’er had a distinct feeling that a deep, piercing gaze had just landed on her from above.
