- Chapter 5 - “Choose the Room Next To Her”
Ning Xin’er’s back suddenly felt cold.
Her instincts told her that a pair of icy eyes were staring at her from behind.
So cold that she shivered.
She instinctively straightened her back and stiffly turned her head to look—
Huh?
There was no one staring at her.
Huo Jinyan was facing the other way, not even sparing her a glance!
Phew. Was it just her imagination?
“Xin’er, I’m talking to you.” Her mother, Wen Nuan, lightly patted her.
“Huh? You heard everything?” Ning Xin’er snapped back to reality, sniffing awkwardly.
Could she say that was just an accident? The whole “boyfriend” thing…
“I heard everything~ Confession~~ Campus heartthrob…” Her mother’s tone carried a teasing lilt.
She had never been against her daughter dating. University students had the freedom to fall in love, and Xin’er was already in her fourth year.
Dating was completely normal.
Family background and status weren’t important. The only thing that mattered was character.
As the saying went, in the end, a relationship depended on a person’s conscience.
And character was the same as conscience.
“If Xin’er has a boyfriend, of course, your mom and I have to check him out first.” Uncle Song laughed as he agreed with Wen Nuan.
“Nothing’s set in stone yet. Once it’s serious, I’ll definitely bring him home to meet you guys first,” Ning Xin’er promised earnestly, feeling a little awkward.
She would definitely introduce them to her boyfriend in the future.
But whether it would be campus heartthrob Huo Jingtian…
Well…
Ugh, she’d think about that later. Overthinking would just lead to hair loss.
She did not want to become bald.
Just then, the elevator doors opened. Feeling slightly annoyed, Ning Xin’er stepped out first.
Outside was a small road leading through the villa district. She quickly ran to the front door and waited for the three behind her.
Wen Nuan and Song Yan didn’t press further.
They could tell that Xin’er didn’t really want to talk about it.
If she didn’t want to say anything, she must have her reasons. It was best to just let things happen naturally.
When she was ready, she’d speak on her own.
****
They soon arrived at the villa. It was spacious, but there were no live-in servants. The family only hired hourly workers for cleaning and other tasks.
Uncle Song’s business had only recently started growing, and Wen Nuan believed in spending money wisely.
If they could save a little, they would.
After living through tough times, she had developed a habit of being financially cautious.
After sitting in the living room for a bit, Ning Xin’er was about to head upstairs when her mother called her back.
“Xin’er, show Jinyan to a guest room.”
She froze for a second.
Huo Jinyan had been so quiet the whole time that she had almost forgotten he was there.
Her family always had a strict habit of going to bed at eleven sharp, and today had been especially exhausting.
Her mother and Uncle Song must be incredibly tired by now.
So, Ning Xin’er bravely took on the task of guiding Huo Jinyan to his room.
After bidding Wen Nuan and Song Yan goodnight, Huo Jinyan silently followed her upstairs.
“Jinyan-ge, which room do you want to sleep in?” Ning Xin’er pointed at the rooms around them, watching him.
Huo Jinyan swept his dark eyes across the hallway, then firmly pointed at one.
“That one.”
After speaking, he strode straight over.
Ning Xin’er was stunned.
This shameless man really knew how to pick a room!
With just one casual choice, he had picked the room right next to hers?!
And to think she had deliberately pointed to the one farthest from her own!
Ning Xin’er huffed coldly but could only accept her fate and follow along.
As the saying goes, a guest is a guest, and she had to be a good host.
She stepped inside and started introducing the room in detail.
Honestly, she highly doubted that the Crown Prince of Yun City knew how to do chores.
So, out of sheer politeness, she even helped him make the bed.
Meanwhile, Huo Jinyan stood there like some kind of grand master, quietly watching her without even lifting a finger!
Before leaving, Ning Xin’er thoughtfully reminded him about the toiletries.
At this point, she felt like she deserved an award—Best Mom of the Year.
“Our newly promoted… Jinyan-ge, goodnight! Sweet dreams.” Ning Xin’er leaned against the doorframe, casually bidding him goodnight before heading back to her room.
Huo Jinyan’s dark eyes narrowed slightly as he watched her.
She was bold yet calm.
As if she truly saw him as an older brother.
She seemed to have forgotten…
Just two nights ago, they had spent the entire night together.
Their relationship was far from just simple siblings.
His gaze locked onto her, deep and unreadable.
Then, step by step, he closed in.
A powerful, predatory aura surrounded him.
Ning Xin’er’s pupils shrank—her internal alarms blared instantly!
Instinctively, she stepped back.
Just as she was about to turn and escape—
The man’s hand shot out, gripping her slender waist with precision.
With a light tug, he pulled her into his firm, broad chest.
Then—Click!
The door slammed shut.
“What do you think you’re doing?! ”
