- Chapter 15: Lipstick Mark
Assistant Liu opened the door for her, and Fu Chaoying instinctively glanced inside—only to find the aviation seat empty.
Ye Jiayuan wasn’t in the car.
Liu Xin noticed her reaction and explained, “President Ye happened to be attending an event nearby. We should arrive just as it ends.”
Fu Chaoying gave a slight nod. “Alright.”
She settled into her seat, leaning back, only to be unexpectedly cushioned by a soft pillow.
“Miss Chaoying, try this new pillow I bought,” Assistant Liu said cheerfully. “My girlfriend loves it and insisted I get one.”
Fu Chaoying’s lips curved slightly. “Your girlfriend has excellent taste.”
This was her first time alone with Assistant Liu, and also the first time she realized that Ye Jiayuan’s usually stern assistant was actually quite lively.
Perhaps it was because the boss had always been present before, making her more reserved. As Assistant Liu animatedly shared stories about her girlfriend, Fu Chaoying listened with genuine interest.
Soon, the car came to a stop.
Liu Xin stepped out to fetch Ye Jiayuan, leaving Fu Chaoying to wait quietly inside.
Before long, Fu Chaoying spotted Ye Jiayuan and her assistant approaching through the window. She casually averted her gaze, only to hear a familiar female voice—
“Sis!”
It was Ye Yi’an again.
Fu Chaoying couldn’t help but smile wryly to herself, remembering that Ye Jiayuan and Ye Yi’an were sisters. The more she interacted with Ye Jiayuan, the more likely she was to run into her younger sister.
Nothing to be surprised about.
Fu Chaoying remained composed in the car, pretending not to hear the commotion outside.
Yet Ye Yi’an seemed drunk, murmuring incoherently, “Sis, you’re close with A-Ying now, can you help me?”
“Ever since I lost her… I haven’t had a single good day.”
“I miss her so much…”
Fu Chaoying couldn’t help but glance over, yet all she could see were the shadows of the Ye sisters, unable to make out Ye Jiayuan’s expression.
After a long pause, she only heard Ye Jiayuan say to Liu Xin in a low voice, “Take her home.”
Ye Jiayuan made no comment about her sister’s persistence toward Fu Chaoying, as if she had no intention of getting involved in their affairs.
As Liu Xin led Ye Yi’an away, Fu Chaoying quickly averted her gaze. Ye Jiayuan then opened the car door and got in, softly instructing, “Back to the hotel.”
Fu Chaoying turned to look at her and unexpectedly met her eyes.
Expecting her to bring up what had just happened outside the car, Fu Chaoying’s heart tightened—only to hear her casually ask,
“How did the negotiations go?”
Fu Chaoying inexplicably relaxed. “Very smoothly.”
Ye Jiayuan gave a soft hum before leaning against the cushion and closing her eyes to rest.
Fu Chaoying couldn’t resist stealing another glance at her, but could only see half of her profile.
Ye Jiayuan must truly be exhausted, she thought.
The car ride was smooth, and drowsiness gradually overtook Fu Chaoying. When she opened her eyes again, Ye Jiayuan was already working.
She had only heard before that Ye Jiayuan was busy, but never realized just how relentless her schedule was.
Fu Chaoying had been worn out after just two weeks of intense work, yet Ye Jiayuan seemed to endure such demands day after day—such a workload made Fu Chaoying feel insignificant in her world.
Noticing her gaze, Ye Jiayuan looked up. “Hungry?”
Fu Chaoying shook her head. “I had dinner at the venue.”
They returned to the hotel.
Tonight, there was no wind, no rain, no clouds—sitting on the balcony, one could even see the stars scattered across the sky.
Fu Chaoying was lost in stargazing when she suddenly heard the doorbell ring.
She got up to answer it and was met with the sight of a radiant woman reeking of alcohol—Qu Jingyuan, Ye Jiayuan’s college classmate and colleague.
The woman paused briefly upon seeing her, then lazily smiled. “Little sister is here too.”
Her smile seemed tinged with bitterness.
Fu Chaoying politely greeted her before turning to find Ye Jiayuan, only to see her emerge from the master bedroom in pajamas.
Qu Jingyuan was unsteady on her feet, so Fu Chaoying quickly reached out to support her.
Ye Jiayuan came over to help, and together they guided her to the sofa.
“What’s wrong?” Ye Jiayuan asked in a low voice.
Qu Jingyuan didn’t answer. Instead, she remarked offhandedly, “Little sister is here with you too.”
Fu Chaoying sensed something beneath the words, but Ye Jiayuan only replied indifferently, “She’s unfamiliar with the city.”
Given the friendship between the Ye and Fu families, it was perfectly normal for her to stay with Ye Jiayuan.
Qu Jingyuan chuckled carelessly, then asked coyly, “Would it be alright if I stayed the night? I won’t disturb you two, will I?”
Fu Chaoying’s gaze shifted from Qu Jingyuan’s flushed face to Ye Jiayuan’s, who calmly answered, “Sure.”
The response didn’t surprise Fu Chaoying. Among friends, letting someone stay over after drinking was nothing out of the ordinary.
Seizing the moment, Fu Chaoying stood up. “Then I’ll leave you to talk. I’ll go freshen up first.”
Returning to the guest room, Fu Chaoying finished washing up and stepped out to get some water—only to see Qu Jingyuan dressed lightly, her coquettish voice growing more pronounced—
“Ah Yuan, how do I turn on the water heater?”
“Ah Yuan, do you have any new pajamas?”
“Ah Yuan, this mattress is uncomfortable…”
Fu Chaoying held a glass of water as she watched Ye Jiayuan standing at the guest room doorway, making a phone call.
Ye Jiayuan hung up and noticed her approach. “Did I disturb you?”
Fu Chaoying shook her head.
The housekeeper arrived shortly after to handle all of Qu Jingyuan’s requests.
Ye Jiayuan turned to enter the study but suddenly remembered something and turned back to Fu Chaoying. “The study has the best soundproofing. If the noise bothers you, you can come in here.”
Fu Chaoying followed and settled by the floor-to-ceiling window in the study.
Outside, the moon was bright and the stars sparse, while inside, the background music was the sound of Ye Jiayuan typing on her keyboard.
As drowsiness crept in, Fu Chaoying bid Ye Jiayuan goodnight.
But as she pushed open the study door, she brushed past Qu Jingyuan, whose pajamas were half-open.
Fu Chaoying froze. When she turned back, she saw the door close behind her.
Was Qu Jingyuan planning to seduce Ye Jiayuan?
Fu Chaoying’s heart skipped a beat. She immediately turned and knocked, only to hear a cool voice from inside—
“Have some self-respect.”
It was Ye Jiayuan’s voice.
Fu Chaoying stood stunned for a moment before the door opened from within. A faint lipstick mark was visible on the collar of Ye Jiayuan’s pajamas, while the ties of Qu Jingyuan’s sleepwear were nearly undone.
The scene was slightly suggestive. Fu Chaoying quickly averted her gaze, only to hear Ye Jiayuan stride out and close the door behind her, murmuring, “Sorry, she’s drunk.”
Fu Chaoying turned back and studied Ye Jiayuan’s expression before gesturing toward the study. “What about her?”
“I’ll have the housekeeper take her home.” Ye Jiayuan remained composed, as if nothing had happened.
“Oh.” Fu Chaoying started to leave but then turned back. “Do you want me to stay with you, sis?”
Ye Jiayuan looked at her for two seconds before nodding.
They moved to the balcony.
Though slightly awkward, Fu Chaoying quickly shifted the conversation naturally, rambling without a clear topic—though most of the talking came from her, with Ye Jiayuan offering only brief responses.
Finally, the housekeeper arrived and escorted Qu Jingyuan out of the study. The latter mumbled—
“I don’t want to go home…”
“Stop pulling me…”
After some struggle, Fu Chaoying and Ye Jiayuan watched their retreating figures until the sound of the front door closing echoed through the house.
Fu Chaoying inexplicably sighed in relief before casually remarking, “Jingyuan-jie, is she…”
Ye Jiayuan glanced at her and replied flatly, “She was drunk.”
Fu Chaoying smiled. “But even when she’s sober, it’s pretty obvious.”
Ye Jiayuan turned to gaze out the window. “We can only ever be friends.”
“Just friends” and “can only ever be friends” carried entirely different meanings.
Fu Chaoying chuckled but didn’t press further, simply sighing, “Sis, you really have no shortage of admirers…”
With that, she turned and headed toward the guest room. At the door, she glanced back at Ye Jiayuan with a bright smile. “Goodnight, sis.”
As she closed the door, she heard a cool voice behind her. “Goodnight.”
Lying in bed, Fu Chaoying couldn’t help but recall the alluring image of Qu Jingyuan in her half-open pajamas and the lipstick mark on Ye Jiayuan’s collar.
Someone like Ye Jiayuan—a top-tier catch in the sapphic world—naturally attracted plenty of attention.
The thought kept Fu Chaoying awake for a long while.
Then, a faint sound of a door closing reached her ears—the front door being shut once more.
Fu Chaoying got out of bed, turned on the light, and stepped out yawning.
The moment the light flickered on, she spotted Ye Jiayuan’s slippers placed neatly by the entrance.
Ye Jiayuan had gone out.
Fu Chaoying’s heart sank abruptly, suddenly recalling the first night they had shared a bed.
She had received a phone call in the middle of the night, but she hadn’t left home that evening—she had simply hung up and returned to the bedroom.
But tonight was different.
Ye Jiayuan had gone out. Was it to handle urgent company matters, or to meet someone?
A shadow flickered through Fu Chaoying’s eyes.
