- Chapter 26: Kissing Her Lips
Fu Chaoying couldn’t suppress a soft laugh, tilting her head with interest as she leaned toward Ye Jiayuan, her breath fragrant as orchids: “Jiayuan-jie… are you jealous?”
Ye Jiayuan’s gaze imperceptibly swept over Fu Chaoying’s slightly parted, rosy lips before she could respond, when suddenly Fu Chaoying moved—her sweet fragrance abruptly filling Ye Jiayuan’s embrace.
The car braked abruptly without warning. Due to inertia, Fu Chaoying’s forehead accidentally bumped against Ye Jiayuan’s chin. She immediately straightened up, her eyes full of concern as she spoke with remorse: “I’m sorry Jiayuan-jie, did I hurt you? Are you alright?”
Ye Jiayuan raised her hand to gently touch the spot where she had been bumped, her fingertips brushing over the slightly heated skin. She could smell the faint scent of roses from the other woman and sense her urgent concern. Her throat moved slightly as she murmured, “It’s fine.”
Fu Chaoying remained nestled in her embrace, their soft bodies pressed tightly together, breaths mingling.
Unable to resist, Fu Chaoying lifted her head, her eyes brimming with apology, fixed on the slender fingers resting beneath Ye Jiayuan’s jaw—and the perfectly shaped lips just above them.
“Let me see,” Fu Chaoying said softly, her voice sweet yet carrying a subtle, teasing undertone.
She straightened up from Ye Jiayuan’s arms, her fingertips carefully reaching out to move the other woman’s hand aside.
The accidental brush of their fingers sent a tingling jolt through them, their proximity so close that their breaths intertwined.
Ye Jiayuan’s gaze darkened slightly as she savored the softness of the woman before her, allowing her to pry her fingers away and lean in closer.
The warmth of Fu Chaoying’s breath still lingered against her neck.
Fu Chaoying stared at the striking red mark on Ye Jiayuan’s fair jaw, her guilt deepening.
Her thumb unconsciously stroked Ye Jiayuan’s chin, as if to soothe or perhaps to apologize.
Only when Fu Chaoying’s gaze drifted back to those thin lips did she suddenly snap back to reality, realizing just how intimate their position was.
Just as she was about to pull away and put some distance between them, a warm hand abruptly cupped her chin—
Fu Chaoying’s lashes fluttered, her throat bobbing slightly. “Jiayuan-jie?”
The air seemed to freeze instantly, the car’s interior falling into silence as an unmistakable tension thickened between them.
Feeling the slight tension in Fu Chaoying’s skin, Ye Jiayuan’s deep, unreadable eyes lingered on the faint blush spreading across her cheeks and her slightly parted pink lips. Her throat moved again as she murmured, “How do you plan to make it up to me?”
The atmosphere was too charged. Fu Chaoying’s heart raced uncontrollably, her mind spinning—how should she make it up? A hug? Or… a kiss?
Countless thoughts flashed through her mind, each one carrying an unspoken implication.
Just as she steeled herself, biting her lower lip and preparing to act, Ye Jiayuan suddenly released her chin, setting her free.
A flicker of confusion passed through Fu Chaoying’s heart. She looked up to see Ye Jiayuan’s expression as calm as ever, composed and unruffled, as if nothing had happened.
A complicated emotion flashed in Fu Chaoying’s eyes, but then she heard Ye Jiayuan’s cool voice beside her ear: “You can owe me for now. Pay me back later.”
With that, Ye Jiayuan turned away, pressed the partition button, and stepped out of the car.
Only then did Fu Chaoying realize the car had stopped at some point. Peering out the window, she saw a white sedan parked in front of theirs, with a few people standing nearby, seemingly arguing.
A rear-end collision, perhaps?
Her heart clenched, and she immediately pushed the door open, only to find Ye Jiayuan standing among the group, her demeanor composed yet exuding an undeniable authority. With just a few calm words, she silenced the quarreling individuals.
Then, Ye Jiayuan turned and walked back toward her.
Her steps were unhurried, her expression unreadable.
“Just a minor issue,” Ye Jiayuan said softly, her gaze settling on Fu Chaoying’s face. Then, in a gentler tone, she asked, “You weren’t scared, were you?”
Fu Chaoying shook her head. “No.”
“Let’s get back in the car.”
Back in the car, the driver quickly apologized, explaining that the other vehicle had deliberately cut them off.
Ye Jiayuan gave a soft “Mm” in response, her expression still calm. “Let’s go.”
Fu Chaoying safely opened the Pizza Hut packaging—naturally, it wasn’t a kids’ meal but a pizza with some sides. She casually picked up a slice and offered it to Ye Jiayuan sitting beside her, only for the latter to shake her head lightly. “You can have it.”
When Fu Chaoying tried to share with Liu Xin, the assistant in the front seat, Liu also waved her off with a smile. “You go ahead, Miss Chaoying.”
Fu Chaoying glanced at Ye Jiayuan with a pleading look.
Noticing her gaze from the corner of her eye, Ye Jiayuan met her eyes and felt her heart soften slightly. Her voice gentled as she said, “Assistant Liu, you don’t need to be so tense all the time. Relax a little.”
Hearing this, Liu Xin quickly responded with a smile and accepted the pizza from Fu Chaoying, thanking her softly.
Amused, Fu Chaoying’s lips curved upward.
She handed Liu Xin a few more slices before leaning forward to raise the partition. In a quiet voice, she asked Ye Jiayuan, “Jiayuan-jie, was I really annoying when I was little?”
Ye Jiayuan remained composed, lazily reclining against the seat. “Why do you ask?”
“Because I used to pester you all the time to take me to Pizza Hut.” Fu Chaoying pouted slightly, her tone carrying a hint of a whine.
“It was fine,” Ye Jiayuan replied mildly. “You were easy to please.”
Compared to her own younger sister, Ye Yi’an, Fu Chaoying’s demands had been far from excessive. Ye Yi’an not only wanted Pizza Hut but also McDonald’s—and not just McDonald’s, but she’d throw tantrums to get claw machine toys too.
Ye Jiayuan lifted a hand to rub her temples briefly before turning her head to look at Fu Chaoying’s delicate face. Watching her eat pizza with curved eyes, she looked just like she had as a child.
A trace of tenderness, barely noticeable, flickered in Ye Jiayuan’s gaze.
As the airport drew closer, Fu Chaoying suddenly felt reluctant. She tugged lightly at Ye Jiayuan’s sleeve. “When will you come back next time?”
Ye Jiayuan lowered her eyes, staring at the hand clutching her sleeve, and answered softly, “Next weekend.”
The moment the words left her lips, Fu Chaoying obediently released her sleeve. “Okay.”
Ye Jiayuan averted her gaze, turning to look out the window as if trying to hide something.
Two minutes later, she abruptly added, “Once you’ve finalized your plans for Singapore, remember to let me know in advance.”
Fu Chaoying blinked playfully. “Oh? Does that mean Jiayuan-jie will come with me?”
Ye Jiayuan gave a slight nod, the corners of her lips lifting almost imperceptibly. “It’s not impossible. We’ll see how my schedule looks.”
Fu Chaoying’s eyes curved into crescents, about to say more, but Ye Jiayuan had already pressed the button to lower the partition.
The car’s interior returned to its private state, the earlier ambiguous atmosphere lingering faintly.
Fu Chaoying’s heart raced inexplicably. Holding her breath, she heard Ye Jiayuan ask, “I didn’t ask you last time—do you prefer a villa or a flat?”
Fu Chaoying chuckled. “A flat, one with an ocean view.”
“Alright.” Ye Jiayuan seemed to recall something else and asked in a low voice, “Do you have any plans to visit Hong Kong soon?”
Fu Chaoying paused briefly before shaking her head lightly. “No work plans there for now. Why?”
Ye Jiayuan nodded and didn’t elaborate, as if it had just been a casual question.
Fu Chaoying gazed at her calm face, trying to discern something from her expression but found nothing. She blinked and fell silent, pressing no further.
Her eyes soon settled on the car window beside her, where the sky stretched clear and blue, without a single cloud.
Yet her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, countless ideas flooding in like a tide.
The issue of long-distance wasn’t just one person’s problem—perhaps their work could also shift toward each other’s cities.
Once the thought solidified, Fu Chaoying’s eyes curved slightly.
Before long, the car arrived at the airport.
Suppressing the faint reluctance in her heart, Fu Chaoying saw her off with her usual composure.
Liu Xin quickly pushed the luggage forward, heading straight for the security checkpoint to give the two some space.
When they reached the checkpoint, Ye Jiayuan stopped, turned around, and said softly, “This is far enough. Let the driver take you back.”
Fu Chaoying also halted, offering her a faint smile. “Then, Jiayuan-jie, have a safe trip.”
With those words, she turned and walked away.
Ye Jiayuan watched her slender, resolute figure retreat, her expression complicated.
Fu Chaoying pressed her lips together, resisting the urge to look back at her.
But in an instant, fragmented images flashed through her mind.
Her heart stirred, and she abruptly stopped in her tracks before turning around without warning—only to meet Ye Jiayuan’s deep gaze.
Ye Jiayuan was still standing there, unmoving, watching her as if she were the one seeing someone off.
Fu Chaoying’s fingertips trembled slightly before she smiled and jogged back toward her.
In just a few steps, she stood before her again, finding her eyes as deep as the ocean.
“Xiao Ying,” Ye Jiayuan called in a low voice.
Fu Chaoying curved her lips and blinked. “I accidentally bumped your chin earlier… Does it still hurt?”
Ye Jiayuan narrowed her eyes slightly before answering, a hint of imperceptible coaxing in her voice. “It does.”
Fu Chaoying reached up, resting her hands on her shoulders, then rose slightly on her tiptoes to lean closer.
“Then…” Her slender fingers lightly grasped Ye Jiayuan’s shoulders as she tilted her head up, smiling softly. “If I kiss you, will it feel better?”
Her tone carried an unconscious playfulness and teasing.
Before Ye Jiayuan could respond, those soft pink lips pressed firmly against her jaw.
The warm, tender touch carried a faint sweetness. Ye Jiayuan’s gaze darkened instantly, her throat bobbing slightly, fingers curling at her sides.
Fu Chaoying only brushed her lips lightly against her jaw before pulling away with a quiet laugh. But before her heels could fully touch the ground, a warm palm gently cupped her cheek—
In the next moment, Ye Jiayuan’s exquisitely defined face suddenly drew near, and before Fu Chaoying could react, her lips were captured in a swift, decisive kiss.
