- Chapter 8: Stunning Revelation
On Ye Jiayuan’s third day in Singapore, Fu Chaoying reposted Ye Yi’an’s breakup announcement with a simple caption: [Wishing each other well.]
This marked the definitive end of their complicated past and served as the prelude to Fu Chaoying’s professional ascent.
Over the following week, Fu Chaoying worked tirelessly—selecting office space, registering her company, obtaining various licenses, and overseeing interior design simultaneously.
Meanwhile, her WeChat friends bombarded her with messages, trying to uncover the abrupt reason behind her breakup with Ye Yi’an.
But Fu Chaoying ignored them all, focusing solely on work-related correspondence.
News of Fu Chaoying establishing an art management company spread quickly through industry circles.
Leveraging the Fu family’s extensive connections, she effortlessly signed several renowned domestic artists—mostly ink wash painters, along with a few calligraphers.
Surprisingly, some of her grandmother’s former acquaintances who she hadn’t planned to contact also reached out with goodwill.
However, with the Singapore Art Gala approaching, Fu Chaoying hadn’t had time to visit each potential collaborator yet, having only expressed preliminary interest.
When Fu Chaoying and her aunt were preparing to leave for the airport, she suddenly realized her last conversation with Ye Jiayuan had been two weeks ago.
During those two weeks, Fu Chaoying had thrown herself entirely into company preparations, leaving no room for anything else—let alone contacting Ye Jiayuan.
And the other woman certainly wouldn’t reach out first.
So, just like before, the two of them had quietly lost touch—meeting no more than twice a year, exchanging only polite pleasantries when they did.
Staring at the distant, formal words in their chat window, Fu Chaoying couldn’t help but wonder if those heated moments had been nothing but an illusion.
Yet even so, she was determined to chase that dream.
Fu Chaoying opened Ye Jiayuan’s chat and slowly typed out a message: [Jiayuan-jie, I’m flying to Singapore today.]
She deliberately didn’t explain her sudden trip, hoping the other woman would ask.
But contrary to her wishes, no new message appeared by the time the plane took off.
Ye Jiayuan must be busy.
Fu Chaoying turned off her phone, pulled up her blanket, and prepared to rest.
Her aunt, Fu Anjun, noticed her exhaustion and asked with concern, “Haven’t been sleeping well these days?”
Fu Chaoying shook her head lightly and smiled. “I was revising the interior design plans until late last night.”
Fu Anjun patted her shoulder. “Your health comes first. The family doesn’t need your contributions.”
It was true—even just the 5% stake in Xingye would guarantee her a comfortable, leisurely life.
But where was the fun in that?
Fu Chaoying hummed in acknowledgment and nodded. “I know, Auntie.”
Closing her eyes, she replayed every interaction with Ye Jiayuan in her mind.
Though Ye Jiayuan always gave off an aloof, distant air, she had indeed dropped plenty of encouraging signals.
All things considered, Fu Chaoying had a good chance of securing this powerful ally.
After a long rest, they finally arrived in Singapore.
Fu Chaoying immediately checked her phone—only to find a single, indifferent reply from Ye Jiayuan: [Mm.]
Not even a question about her trip? Weren’t they supposed to meet up in Singapore?
Taking a deep breath, Fu Chaoying pressed her lips together and put her phone away.
Her aunt caught the motion. “What’s wrong, Xiaoying?”
Fu Chaoying curved her lips slightly. “Just getting used to the foreign air.”
Fu Anjun chuckled and gave her a light tap. “You silly girl!”
Her aunt had arranged everything for the trip, so Fu Chaoying simply followed her lead—until she spotted a familiar figure.
Was that…?
She wasn’t sure until they drew closer and the woman greeted them, startling her—
“Assistant Liu?”
Ye Jiayuan’s assistant, Liu Na, nodded politely. “Miss Chaoying, it’s been a while.”
Fu Chaoying shook hands with her alongside her aunt, listening as Liu Na explained, “President Ye is still in a meeting. She specifically asked me to escort you both to the hotel.”
Fu Anjun, well-versed in such formalities, exchanged a few pleasantries before guiding Fu Chaoying into the car.
Once inside, Fu Chaoying whispered, “Did you tell Jiayuan-jie we were coming?”
Fu Anjun shook her head. “The day she left Nanyan, she had two invitations couriered to me.”
Then Fu Anjun had passed one of them to her.
Fu Chaoying instantly understood—Ye Jiayuan had known from the moment she received her message that she had come to Singapore with her aunt to attend the cocktail party.
No wonder she hadn’t pressed for details about her trip.
Lost in thought, Fu Chaoying was startled when Assistant Liu suddenly spoke—
“Ladies, President Ye would like to invite you both to dinner this evening. Would you be available?”
Fu Anjun smiled at her. “We’d be honored.”
Given the longstanding friendship between the Ye and Fu families, Ye Jiayuan’s impeccable courtesy was only to be expected.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Fu Chaoying looked up and felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
“Xiao Ying, do you remember? This is the same hotel we stayed at for your 15th birthday.”
The words instantly brought back memories.
That year, her birthday had coincided with the Lunar New Year, and both the Ye and Fu families had gathered for a holiday celebration.
It had also been the last time her entire family had come together for her birthday.
A pity—not even a single photo remained from that day.
After briefly reminiscing with her aunt, Fu Chaoying checked in.
Both had suites, their rooms adjacent, with the ocean visible the moment the doors opened.
Fu Chaoying took a shower, changed into summer clothes, and sat on the balcony to enjoy the sea breeze when she suddenly heard a knock.
“Xiao Ying, it’s me.”
A soft voice came through the wooden door—her aunt had come to see her.
Fu Chaoying hurried to open the door, only to find two people standing outside.
Accompanying her aunt was Ye Jiayuan.
Two weeks apart, and she was actually wearing a dress—a deep gray, minimalist design that accentuated her elegant and graceful figure.
A flicker of admiration flashed in Fu Chaoying’s eyes before she calmly averted her gaze, a smile curving her lips. “Jiayuan-jie, long time no see.”
Her aunt cleared her throat lightly.
Ye Jiayuan glanced at her clothes, then let her gaze linger on her hair before speaking evenly, “Hmm. Once you’ve dried your hair, shall we go to dinner?”
“Sure, please come in.” Fu Chaoying saw nothing amiss and turned to walk into the bedroom.
Only when she stood before the mirror did it suddenly dawn on her—she had opened the door without wearing a bra!
Though the camisole covered most of the view, every movement made it all too obvious.
If her aunt had seen, fine—but Ye Jiayuan had too!
Then again, perhaps she hadn’t noticed.
But when Fu Chaoying went to dry her hair, she realized it was already dry from the sea breeze…
So, Ye Jiayuan’s suggestion had merely been a tactful way of pointing it out.
She had noticed.
Fu Chaoying hastily ran the dryer over her hair a couple of times and splashed her face repeatedly to calm herself.
Two minutes later, she finally regained her composure.
After changing, she opened the door and greeted them as if nothing had happened. “Shall we go?”
On the way to the restaurant, Fu Anjun and Ye Jiayuan chatted casually about recent events until her aunt suddenly teased, “What made you decide to sponsor an art forum all of a sudden?”
Fu Chaoying was equally curious.
In her memory, Xingye had always focused more on high-tech industries, followed by finance. Why venture into the arts now?
Ye Jiayuan answered calmly, “I bought a painting recently and found it quite interesting.”
Hearing this, Fu Chaoying slowly lifted her gaze to look at her. Was she referring to Jade Orchid?
Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted when her aunt patted her shoulder. “Your Jiayuan-jie went out of her way to acquire Jade Orchid for you. Did you return the courtesy?”
It turned out Auntie also knew about the “ Jade Orchid Painting.” Perhaps Ye Jiayuan had discussed it with her before the auction?
So when she sent the painting, was it truly just to fulfill Grandma Fu Li’s last wish, without any ulterior motives?
Before Fu Chaoying could respond, she heard Ye Jiayuan speak calmly, “Returning a gift is trivial. Besides, Xiaoying has already reciprocated.”
Fu Anjun smoothly shifted the topic.
Yet Fu Chaoying’s emotions remained unsettled—she had overthought things.
She had assumed Ye Jiayuan held some degree of special regard for her, even insisting on returning the favor.
Fu Chaoying subtly glanced at Ye Jiayuan’s profile, only to find her gaze meeting hers with precision.
In the blue hour, with the sea breeze gently brushing past, their eyes locked.
She saw clarity and brightness in Ye Jiayuan’s pupils, yet they were unfathomably deep.
Wordlessly, they both looked away.
As if, in that moment, the twilight’s faint glow had slipped away.
As the host, Ye Jiayuan took them to the most renowned seaside restaurant in the area, securing the best seats.
Fu Anjun repeatedly praised her thoughtfulness and reminded Fu Chaoying to learn from her—after all, she would inevitably have to handle hospitality and social engagements in the future.
When the conversation shifted to Fu Chaoying, Ye Jiayuan’s gaze lingered on her blue fringed dress.
The pattern was distinctive.
“Did you design this motif yourself?” Ye Jiayuan asked in a low voice.
Fu Chaoying nodded lightly. “I drew the pattern, but a friend helped design the dress.”
Ye Jiayuan didn’t press further, instead asking, “How’s the company preparation going?”
As the host, Ye Jiayuan steered the flow and direction of the conversation.
Fu Chaoying answered her questions, noticing her slight nod of approval. “Good. If you need any help, don’t hesitate.”
Naturally, Fu Chaoying wouldn’t refuse such an offer.
And with that, the topic came to an end.
Fu Chaoying gazed out through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the waves gently lapping against the shore, the hum of international news murmuring in the background.
The restaurant served their dishes swiftly, and the three of them ate in comfortable silence.
As the meal neared its end, her aunt excused herself to the restroom, leaving only Fu Chaoying and Ye Jiayuan at the table.
Fu Chaoying lowered her eyes to peel a shrimp when she noticed an already-peeled shrimp placed in her bowl.
She slowly looked up to see Ye Jiayuan’s lips curving slightly as she said softly, “I remember it’s only been two weeks since we last met.”
Fu Chaoying offered a perfectly measured smile, pretending not to catch the implication in her words. “Thank you for the shrimp, Jiayuan-jie.”
With that, she popped it into her mouth.
Ye Jiayuan studied her intently. “When I bid on collectibles, I don’t consult anyone—nor do I volunteer explanations.”
Fu Chaoying’s heartbeat quickened, and she met Ye Jiayuan’s gaze again.
The woman’s expression was calm, yet it felt as though she had seen right through every one of Fu Chaoying’s hidden thoughts—
“Giving it to you wasn’t entirely for your grandmother’s sake.”
