Oops, I’m the Scumbag Ex in Her Storyline - Chapter 15
When Xin Yan left the bar, Bei Lanlan was sitting in a milk tea shop across town, facing none other than Xu Suyu, whom she had called out to meet.
Xu Suyu opened the laptop she had brought with her. Displayed on the screen was the university’s student registration system. She said, “Since your previous student record had been voided, reinstating it was nearly impossible. The reapplication process is extremely complicated. So instead, I registered you as a new student. Your student number has changed—this line here. The password is still the default.”
She pointed at the screen. “Once you log in, you’ll see your class schedule. You’ve been assigned to Class 3, and you’ll attend classes with them from now on.”
Bei Lanlan entered her new student number and opened her schedule. She discovered she only had four courses to take—three were scheduled on the same day, and the fourth was biweekly.
That meant she could balance both work and study. Satisfied, Bei Lanlan looked up and smiled.
“Thank you so much, Professor Xu. If it wasn’t for you, there’s no way I’d be able to return to school so quickly.”
Of course, if it hadn’t been Xu Suyu, Xin Yan would have stepped in instead. Xu Suyu leaned on her professional standing, while Xin Yan… used her financial power.
It was only because Bei Lanlan had told Xin Yan that Xu Suyu was handling it that Xin Yan backed off. But Xu Suyu was unaware of that and naturally accepted all the gratitude directed her way.
Now that her enrollment had been settled, Bei Lanlan could return to class as soon as next Tuesday. Seizing the moment, Xu Suyu brought up another matter.
“The school hasn’t finalized dorm assignments yet. Do you want to live on campus? I can request a shared postgraduate room for you. Most grad students don’t live in the dorms, so if you move in, it’ll practically be a single room.”
Bei Lanlan paused, then shook her head. “I’d rather stay on Lin Yin Road.”
Xu Suyu frowned. “Are you worried Xin Yan won’t approve?”
Her tone was laced with frustration.
“Lanlan, you can’t let her control everything. Even if you’re married, that doesn’t mean she gets to restrict your freedom. If you wanted to live on the moon, it still wouldn’t be her business.”
Seeing Bei Lanlan lower her head in silence, Xu Suyu fell quiet too. She realized she was being too harsh. Bei Lanlan was so pure, so naive—she was the victim here. How could she blame her?
After a moment, Xu Suyu softened her voice and tried again.
“Did Xin Yan say something to you?”
Bei Lanlan pressed her lips together. Her eyes were half-lowered, her expression quiet and fragile.
“Not really. She’s… actually been treating me really well lately.”
She looked like she wanted to say more but held back. Her tone was vague, ambivalent. Xu Suyu filled in the blanks with her imagination—and nearly gave herself an aneurysm.
Did she even need to ask? Xin Yan was clearly up to her old tricks again. On one hand, letting Bei Lanlan return to school; on the other, refusing to let her move out of that golden cage. This wasn’t change—it was strategic sabotage.
Xu Suyu couldn’t understand it. With Xin Yan’s wealth and power, there were countless people willing to be toyed with. Why did she fixate on Lanlan, of all people?
She made a decision.
“Lanlan, come live with me.”
Bei Lanlan looked up, stunned.
Xu Suyu met her gaze, unwavering.
“Move in with me. I’ll protect you. As long as I’m there, no one will touch you. Once you’re settled, I’ll hire a lawyer—no, three lawyers. No matter what, we need to get your marriage annulled.”
Bei Lanlan: “……”
A nerve twitched in her forehead. She barely managed to keep her expression in check.
“Thank you for your kindness, Professor… but divorce isn’t something I can decide on my own.”
Xu Suyu frowned. “Why not? I remember you two signed a prenuptial agreement, didn’t you? Do you still have it on your phone? Send it to me—I’ll let my lawyer friends review it, see if they can find any loopholes.”
Bei Lanlan: “……”
Realizing Xu Suyu was dead serious, Bei Lanlan cursed silently, then quickly backtracked.
“That won’t be necessary. I—I’m not ready yet…”
Xu Suyu’s eyes widened like she’d just heard something completely absurd.
“Not ready? After everything she’d done to you, you still don’t want a divorce?”
“Our relationship is… complicated. Xin Yan has helped me a lot too. I already owe her—I don’t want to owe her even more.”
Xu Suyu furrowed her brow and didn’t speak for a long time. She didn’t agree, but in the end, she relented.
With Xu Suyu finally giving up on the divorce plan, Bei Lanlan let out a quiet sigh of relief. Then she brought up the real reason she’d asked to meet.
She wanted Xu Suyu to keep an eye on her academic records. In the past, Xin Yan had never tampered with them—but who could say she wouldn’t someday?
The fact that Bei Lanlan trusted her so deeply gave Xu Suyu a sense of pride. She readily agreed. After chatting a little longer, she left just before class started.
Once she was gone, Bei Lanlan rubbed her stiff face and returned to her usual expressionless self.
Whether it was Xin Yan, Xu Suyu, or anyone else in this world—she didn’t trust a single soul. But she had no choice. Right now, she was too weak. She could only rely on others’ resources to get what she wanted.
As for what she truly wanted…
Even she wasn’t entirely sure. If Xin Yan kept pretending to be kind and gentle, then divorce didn’t really matter. And if all it took was playing the victim, flashing a smile, to make people like Xu Suyu run to her aid—well, a smile wasn’t such a high price to pay.
But there was one thing she was absolutely certain of:
She never wanted to be controlled again.
From now on, she would be the one in control—never again the one being controlled. If anyone dared to interfere with her life, she swore she’d make them pay the highest price.
With that ruthless thought in mind, Bei Lanlan returned home before dinner, only to find that the person who had asked her to come home for dinner—Xin Yan—wasn’t back yet.
Apparently, something had come up at work. A high-profile guest had arrived unexpectedly, and Xin Yan had to entertain them.
In the past, if Xin Yan stood her up, Bei Lanlan would’ve happily eaten two extra bowls of rice. But now, when Xin Yan broke her promise, she wasn’t nearly as pleased.
Seriously? After making such a big deal out of it, this is how it ends? She couldn’t help feeling a bit played.
After eating alone at the massive dining table, Bei Lanlan returned to her room. The new clothes had already arrived. Per Xin Yan’s instructions, the maids had packed away all her old outfits into a box. The newly cleared wardrobe was now filled with fresh designer pieces. The box of old clothes sat in the corner of her bedroom—Xin Yan had told her to pick out anything she still wanted. The rest would be donated tomorrow.
Bei Lanlan didn’t want to keep a single piece. She planned to give them all away untouched.
But on her way to the bathroom, she noticed something white on top of the box. She walked over and found a folded gift card made of stiff white cardstock.
Removing the satin ribbon, she opened the card. A small velvet box tumbled out, but she didn’t look at it first. Her eyes went straight to the words written inside:

“I won’t be home tonight. Don’t be picky just because you’re eating alone. It’s good to like vegetables, but a diet of only vegetables won’t do. They say it’ll rain tomorrow, so don’t sleep with the window open. If it’s too warm, just turn on the air conditioner.”
P.S. Do you like this necklace? It reminded me of that red dress you love. I thought they’d go perfectly together—so I bought it.”

The small card was filled with Xin Yan’s handwriting. Bei Lanlan stared at it for a long time before crouching down and picking up the box from the floor.
Click.
The box popped open, revealing the necklace that had been knocked loose when it fell.
Xin Yan was right.
The necklace’s style matched that red dress perfectly—both were dreamy, luxurious, almost fairytale-like. Bei Lanlan had never worn anything like it before, but when she saw it in the store, she had glanced at it…
twice.
Just twice.
She lifted her hand, letting the fine chain fall between her fingers. The pendant caught the light and glittered brilliantly—just like the woman who bought it: dazzling, expensive, dangerous, and undeniably striking.
