Pair A? No Thanks! [Transmigration] - Chapter 14
At the Su family home, takeout was spread across an old brown wooden table. The vendor had put thought into the packaging; when laid out, it almost felt like a banquet.
Only, this banquet, to Shi Ning, was quite amusing.
“Sit,” Su Tianxue, seeing the other three remain silent, finally greeted them, “Let’s have some late-night food.”
Su Tianxue took her seat first. Su Wanxing’s next move was to go to the spot beside her, but to her surprise, Shi Ning lightly hooked the back of the chair, pulled it out, and gracefully sat down, occupying the spot Su Wanxing had coveted.
Su Wanxing glared angrily at Shi Ning, who, with her arms crossed, innocently looked at Su Wanxing: “Little sister, sit.”
Su Wanxing was scared by this address. She was wary: “Don’t call me little sister, I don’t have an older sister like you.”
Jiang Ningran subtly observed everything, secretly speculating and wondering why Shi Ning was here. Still feigning innocence, she pulled out the chair opposite Shi Ning and Su Tianxue in front of Su Tianxue and gently said, “Wanxing, sit here.”
Su Wanxing wouldn’t have it.
“I want to sit with my sister.”
Neither of these women were safe!
Su Tianxue helplessly pressed a hand to her forehead. Just as she was about to speak, she felt a hand under the table gently squeeze her palm. She looked over; the hand’s owner, Shi Ning, was looking at her with exaggerated gentleness, her beautiful lips slightly parted, as if about to say—wife.
Su Tianxue knew it was a threat.
She had no choice but to glance at Su Wanxing: “Be good, sit across.”
Su Wanxing couldn’t believe her ears. She looked at Su Tianxue, then at Shi Ning. Shi Ning, like a bored child who had successfully snatched someone else’s toy, cocked an eyebrow triumphantly at Su Wanxing.
Su Wanxing sat down angrily, then moved her chair further away, increasing the distance from Jiang Ningran.
Because of Shi Ning’s appearance, Jiang Ningran’s hand, resting by the hem of her clothes, was clenched tightly, her nails digging into her flesh, leaving faint red marks. Yet, she maintained an impassive expression and politely asked, “Excuse me, Sister Su, who is this?”
Su Tianxue looked at Shi Ning, implying it was her turn to tell the lie.
After all, she hadn’t taken to heart the lie Shi Ning had casually made up before, and their stories hadn’t been properly coordinated.
Shi Ning instantly became the center of attention for the three pairs of eyes. Unfazed, she opened a can of cola with one hand, took a sip, and said with a smile, “My name is Shi Ning.”
She paused, then added: “Miss Su’s suitor.”
Su Wanxing snorted very loudly when she heard that.
Su Tianxue remained impassive, pretending nothing had happened, but her hand reached under the table and pinched Shi Ning’s thigh. Shi Ning, whose hand wasn’t on the table, pressed down on Su Tianxue’s, not letting her go.
Shi Ning deliberately spoke vaguely, then predictably caught Jiang Ningran’s slightly widened pupils and a fleeting moment of hatred.
The smile on her lips grew wider, and the amusement in her eyes deepened.
Interesting.
Jiang Ningran’s reaction could only mean she believed Shi Ning was Su Wanxing’s suitor. From Jiang Ningran’s abnormal behavior, it was half possible that the girl sitting opposite her was also an outsider, just like her.
But there were other possibilities.
Lawyers excel at psychological warfare, and at finding clues and loopholes.
She made no attempt to hide her pleasure, raising her glass to Jiang Ningran across the table: “Nice to meet you.”
Jiang Ningran was almost at her breaking point. She thought that by starting over, she had already prevented everything in advance. Meeting Su Wanxing early, staying by her side, and using every method to stop her from following the path of her previous life, all for the purpose of having her exclusively.
But she didn’t expect Shi Ning to be the one who slipped through the net.
And she actually appeared in Su Wanxing’s life again.
Jiang Ningran’s head throbbed. She forced herself to calm down, lowered her head slightly, and said gently in her usual voice, “Thank you, I don’t drink sodas.”
Shi Ning: “No problem, you have plain water. A toast?”
Jiang Ningran suppressed her emotions, forced a smile, and clinked glasses with Shi Ning. Clink, Shi Ning met her gaze, laughing inwardly with glee.
Jiang Ningran probably wished that the sound wasn’t of clinking glasses, but of a bullet.
The person opposite her hated her, had a natural animosity towards her.
Yet, now she had to act docile in front of her.
Shi Ning was now seventy percent sure that Jiang Ningran had likely experienced the plot of the book. Only then could her hatred be explained. And her actions towards Su Wanxing proved that she had intentions for Su Wanxing, whether it was love or s3x. Shi Ning didn’t care. She only knew that things were getting more interesting.
“Let’s eat,” Su Tianxue pulled her hand away from Shi Ning’s grasp under the table and picked some food for Su Wanxing, “This is your favorite brain curd.”
Shi Ning was uncharacteristically quiet, finishing her meal calmly. Her attention was now solely on observation.
Jiang Ningran was most likely not a transmigrator like her.
After the meal, despite the awkwardness, the tacit understanding between her and Su Wanxing remained. This tacit understanding wasn’t formed in a day or two; either this person had transmigrated a long time ago, or she was originally from this world.
After dinner, Shi Ning went to the restroom to wash her hands. Jiang Ningran suddenly came in, then closed the door behind her and glared fiercely when she spoke, which confirmed it even more for Shi Ning.
Jiang Ningran was as fierce as a small wolf: “I don’t care why you’re with Su Wanxing, please stay away from her.”
Shi Ning rubbed the soap off her fingertips, leaving the water running, and calmly retorted, “Excuse me, what are you saying?”
Her collar was clutched the next second. Jiang Ningran gritted her teeth and said, “Haven’t you tormented Wanxing enough in your last life? Why are you appearing now?”
Last life.
Shi Ning understood.
She casually raised her hand, gripped Jiang Ningran’s hand, and then easily pried it open.
“Junior student Jiang, my clothes are very expensive,” she said indifferently, “Be careful, hm?”
Shi Ning, Su Wanxing, and Jiang Ningran all graduated from the same university.
“Also, I don’t understand what you mean,” Shi Ning shook the water off her hands. “I’m leaving first.”
Jiang Ningran stood rooted to the spot, her brows tightly furrowed.
Could it be that Shi Ning really knew nothing? Was her appearance here just an accident?
Su Tianxue saw her come out and glanced at her.
Su Wanxing clutched Su Tianxue’s arm, glaring at her defiantly: “Why haven’t you left yet?”
She wanted this scumbag to stay away from her and her sister!
“Why should I leave?” Shi Ning deliberately provoked her, walking over to Su Tianxue, embracing her other arm, and leaning against her like a little girl, “Su Wanxing, didn’t your sister tell you I’m staying here? Hm?”
“What?” Two disbelieving voices.
Su Wanxing’s eyes widened, while Jiang Ningran felt that Shi Ning’s voice was alluring and that her intentions were not good. She was staying here for her beloved.
After all, in Jiang Ningran’s heart, she clearly knew how obsessed Shi Ning was with Su Wanxing in the previous life.
Her heart pounded, and she began to feel scared.
Jiang Ningran steeled herself, standing obediently in front of the others: “Sister Su, can I also stay overnight tonight?”
She absolutely could not give Shi Ning and Su Wanxing a chance to be alone.
Even if Shi Ning knew nothing, what if she was still the same as in her past life… then, she wouldn’t be able to hold onto her star.
Hearing her words, Shi Ning curved her lips into a smile.
Hmm, her plan had succeeded.
