Pair A? No Thanks! [Transmigration] - Chapter 19
The loud thumping of construction from upstairs started early the next morning. Shi Ning cursed under her breath and reached out to grope for her phone on the bedside table. She picked it up and saw it was only 7:40 AM.
The hammering sound was relentless, like someone stirring mud in Shi Ning’s brain. She irritably opened her browser to search, and the regulations were the same as in her world before she transmigrated. The state stipulated that construction should start at 8 AM on weekdays. It was only 7:40, so the upstairs was clearly in violation.
Shi Ning tossed the blanket aside and got up. Her nightgown hung loosely. She looked at the bed. Su Tianxue, who had slept beside her last night, was no longer there. The pillow where she had slept was plump and fluffy, and the blanket was neatly folded, like a block of tofu cut with a sharp knife, with a sort of military style.
Looking to the side, Shi Ning’s own side of the bed was a mess. The hundred-count cotton fabric was wrinkled and twisted. She had gotten up without even making the bed, just leaving it as it was.
The two had distinctly different styles.
Shi Ning didn’t know why, but just looking at it, she started to laugh. When she realized it, she found she had taken a photo.
A special bedside photo.
Oh, not bad.
Shi Ning put her phone away. Her mood, which had been irritated by the construction, was now much better. She grabbed her phone and opened the door. Hearing the sound, the two people outside looked up in unison.
Su Tianxue and Su Wanxing were sitting at the dining table, both facing Shi Ning. Su Tianxue was drinking coffee, and Su Wanxing was holding a mug of hot milk, with a little milk mustache on her lip. They were probably a bit shocked to see her.
Su Wanxing had just woken up. Seeing Shi Ning emerge from the bedroom, her mind was a bit muddled; she hadn’t yet realized why Shi Ning was here.
Although the woman’s character was awful and her integrity was garbage, Su Wanxing had to admit that Shi Ning was very good-looking. As she stood by the door, just having gotten out of bed, her red curly hair hung lazily. A small red mole adorned her beautiful collarbone, making her look even more alluring.
Shi Ning noticed Su Wanxing’s prolonged stare, raised an eyebrow, and teased: “Staring?”
Su Wanxing snapped back to attention, instinctively turning to see her sister’s reaction, and meeting her sister’s calm eyes, she felt even more embarrassed. She bickered with Shi Ning: “Bah! You’re just a gilded cage! Who’s staring at you! I, I was looking at the dog!”
Shi Ning: “Oh? Then you were right. I am a little dog.”
Su Wanxing: Huh??
Shi Ning looked at Su Tianxue, her thin lips curving into a meaningful smile.
“After all, your sister knows that from deep experience.”
Su Wanxing didn’t understand. She turned to look at Su Tianxue blankly, only to see her sister lift her cup, drink the coffee in one gulp, and get up to wash it in the kitchen.
Shi Ning wasn’t shy at all. As soon as Su Tianxue left, she deliberately moved closer, pulling out the chair next to Su Wanxing to sit down. Su Wanxing shrieked in fright: “You, you’re not allowed to sit here!”
“Wanxing, what’s wrong?” Jiang Ningran had just washed her face and changed her clothes. But Shi Ning could tell right away that the clothes were Su Tianxue’s. Seeing this, she pressed her tongue against her cheek, and her beautiful, peach-blossom eyes were filled with annoyance.
What’s with this Jiang Ningran, wearing someone else’s wife’s clothes for no reason?
Shi Ning looked up and met the innocent gaze of Jiang Ningran. She smiled easily: “Morning, junior student Jiang.”
“Nothing much. I was just teasing my little sister Wanxing, right?”
Su Wanxing was extremely wary: “Who’s your little sister Wanxing?”
Shi Ning blinked: “I’m your sister’s friend, so it’s only right for me to call you little sister. Unless… you want to change our roles. Of course, I can stop calling you little sister.”
Su Wanxing slammed her milk cup down: “Shi Ning! Show some respect! I have a girlfriend!”
Shi Ning showed an expression of someone watching a good show: “Oh?”
Jiang Ningran frowned for a moment, then seemed a little expectant, as if waiting for Su Wanxing to say who her girlfriend was. After all, she had asked Su Wanxing to get together with her just yesterday.
As for Su Tianxue, hearing the commotion, she came out of the kitchen with freshly steamed frozen buns. She placed them in front of Shi Ning, and as Shi Ning’s eyes widened with gratitude like a little dog, she calmly looked at Su Wanxing: “How come I don’t know about this?”
Su Wanxing cleared her throat, pulled out her phone, and flipped it over. A photo of a woman was tucked into the transparent phone case. The woman was holding a microphone and laughing with abandon.
Shi Ning nodded: “I see, a girlfriend fan.”
The novel never mentioned that Su Wanxing was into idols. It seemed either the author was too lazy to write it, or this world wasn’t exactly like the novel. It made sense; even the longest novels were only a million words at most, and a complete world had more than a million people. How could a vibrant life be fully explained in just a million words?
At least, Su Wanxing had a little hobby.
Shi Ning asked curiously: “Who is this?”
Hearing her question, Su Wanxing’s eyes widened, and her “girlfriend fan” instincts kicked in. “You don’t know who this is?”
Shi Ning: “…Why would I? She’s not my mom.”
Su Wanxing reached out and pinched the space between her nose and lip, almost unable to breathe.
Jiang Ningran explained: “This is Wanxing’s favorite idol, named Zhu Yu. She debuted in a girl group, went solo, and is very popular now.”
Good, Shi Ning thought, I haven’t heard this name in the plot. She’s definitely not one of Su Wanxing’s love interests.
Wait—
Shi Ning opened her phone, found a contact, opened her WeChat, and held it out to Su Wanxing, raising her chin slightly: “Here, take a look. Is it this Zhu Yu?”
Su Wanxing glanced at it, dumbfounded. When she spoke, she couldn’t say a word clearly: “Shi, Shi Ning, you, you, you, how do you know her—”
Shi Ning took a bite of her bun and answered casually: “It’s normal for a boss to know an employee, isn’t it?”
Su Wanxing raised her voice: “Boss?”
The meat bun was delicious, soft on the outside with a tender, fatty meat filling. It tasted great in one bite. Shi Ning looked up at Su Tianxue: “O… “
She was about to say “wife,” but Su Tianxue gave her a calm look, and Shi Ning changed her words: “Old sis, your buns are so delicious.”
Su Tianxue: “I bought them online, they’re frozen buns.”
Shi Ning: “Then you steamed them so well.”
Su Tianxue couldn’t be bothered with her: “I’m going to work. Ningran, go home soon. Su Wanxing, send me a message before you go out.”
Hearing her finish her arrangements, Shi Ning obediently asked: “What about me?”
“You?” Su Tianxue chuckled softly, “You’re free.”
Shi Ning: …Oh, great, I don’t want to be free right now!
The moment Su Tianxue left, Shi Ning felt the whole house became boring. She sighed, holding the bun in her mouth, and leaned back against the chair.
Su Wanxing’s mind was racing. She glanced at Shi Ning, then glanced again.
Shi Ning spoke resignedly: “Just say what you want to say, don’t act like a thief.”
Su Wanxing gripped the cup handle, a little nervous: “I just, I want to ask, that, Mr. Shi… Ms. Shi, do you want to go to work today? Can you take me with you?”
She wanted to see Zhu Yu and tell her to be careful of this terrible woman, Shi Ning! Oh, what if something happened, like a casting couch situation? Su Wanxing couldn’t bear to think about it.
“Sure,” Shi Ning agreed easily.
Su Wanxing’s eyes lit up.
Jiang Ningran, who had been ignored for a long time, couldn’t stand it. She stepped forward and feigned innocence: “Then, senior, can I go with you?”
Jiang Ningran didn’t want to let Shi Ning and Su Wanxing be alone. She also didn’t want Su Wanxing to meet Zhu Yu.
…In her last life, there was no Zhu Yu. In this life, Jiang Ningran was afraid that if Su Wanxing met Zhu Yu, more unexpected things would happen.
Su Wanxing was shaking her head internally, but she was afraid of Jiang Ningran’s retaliation if she found out. Who knew what this woman would do! After being with her for the past two days, Su Wanxing was certain that the person in front of her was not her cute Jiang Ningran at all; she was a lunatic. Compared to being with Jiang Ningran, the scumbag Shi Ning even seemed fresh and refined.
Shi Ning noticed the subtle tension between Jiang Ningran and Su Wanxing, and she clicked her tongue, saying: “No.”
“I’m not close with you, junior student Jiang, and I don’t like you.” Shi Ning’s voice held a hint of a smile, but her eyes were ice cold. She stood up and looked at Su Wanxing. “Give me ten minutes to change, and then we’ll go.”
As soon as she entered the bedroom, Jiang Ningran’s face darkened. She took a step closer to Su Wanxing. Su Wanxing was trembling with fear and felt disgusted.
Jiang Ningran’s voice was hoarse: “Wanxing, why did you suggest going with Shi Ning? Do you like her? Su Wanxing, you really are a b1tch. It doesn’t matter whether those things happened or not; you’re still so promiscuous. If you’re like this, why did you seduce me that day? Why did you go to the hotel with me? I should have fucked you that day. Would you belong to me if I just permanently marked you?”
Su Wanxing was in a panic, and tears started to stream down her face: “Jiang Ningran, I told you I didn’t know anything that day. I, I wasn’t in my right mind. I’m sorry, I was wrong, okay? Can you let me go?”
Jiang Ningran suppressed her emotions, squeezing Su Wanxing’s neck, wanting to do something more, when a pair of hands suddenly grabbed her collar from behind. She felt a sense of suffocation. Jiang Ningran’s eyes widened, and she immediately let go of Su Wanxing, instinctively trying to claw at her own neck.
Su Wanxing fell to the floor, looked up at Shi Ning standing behind Jiang Ningran, and covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face.
Shi Ning lifted Jiang Ningran like a chicken, bringing her in front of her. She leaned in and whispered in her ear: “Junior student Jiang, I’m still in this house. Don’t treat me like I’m dead, and I’m not deaf either, okay?”
Shi Ning flicked her hand back, and Jiang Ningran was thrown to the floor. Shi Ning looked at Su Wanxing, who was crying uncontrollably, and frowned.
As soon as my wife leaves, things go wrong at home. If she finds out, she’ll blame me, won’t she?
No, I have to handle this.
Shi Ning grabbed a pack of tissues, squatted down, and placed it next to Su Wanxing. Her voice was gentle: “When you’re tired of crying, don’t forget to wipe away your tears.” She knew Su Wanxing disliked her, so she didn’t offer any more comfort. After doing that, she stood up, walked over to Jiang Ningran, and with her foot, wearing pink bunny slippers, she stepped on Jiang Ningran’s face. Shi Ning’s tone was easy, but her eyes were ruthless: “Tell me, what exactly did you do to her?”
