Peach Blossom Dual Cultivation - Chapter 23: Get Over Here Now
As he heard Nie Yuanxiong and the others talking, Secretary Lei Gang finally noticed them and was surprised. “Why are you here? And why are you all handcuffed?”
“Secretary Lei, that guy named Zhou Lang hit on me. I called the police to arrest him, but I ended up being detained by this old man’s people,” Ye Qianqian pointed at Zhou Lang as she spoke. At this point, this foolish woman still thought the law could protect her, not realizing that Secretary Lei Gang was summoned by General Qin with just one phone call. Could he help her?
“Nie Yuanxiong, you struck first, and I was merely acting in self-defense. You called the police purely to retaliate. There’s surveillance video in the corridor; the police can simply check it to see what happened. But these cops said that just getting into a fight with you was enough to arrest me without any evidence. Ridiculous!”
Zhou Lang said.
“Zhou Lang is my little brother, and what he said is entirely true,” General Qin’s voice was cold.
“Second-generation officials being arrogant and the police acting as accomplices—Lei Gang, is this how you handle your duties as Party Secretary?”
Both Lei Gang and Leng Xinyue were startled. Now they understood why General Qin was so cold toward them, and they were equally shocked by Zhou Lang’s status, to the point that a man over ninety years old like General Qin would call him ‘little brother.’
“Sir, you should continue your meal. I’ll handle this.”
But Lei Gang, after all, was a soldier by training and had fought his way through the political arena over the years. He had a decisive and resolute style. He quickly regained his composure, gave General Qin a military salute, and then turned to Nie Yuanxiong and the others, sternly asking, “Is what Mr. Zhou just said true?”
In front of General Qin, Lei Gang was like a mere soldier, but when facing Nie Yuanxiong, Ye Qianqian, and the eight policemen, he exuded the aura of a superior and appeared extremely imposing.
Under his gaze, Nie Yuanxiong and the others lowered their heads, trembling like eggplants hit by frost, too scared to speak.
At this point, Lei Gang already understood the truth of the matter. He immediately said, “So, none of you want to talk? Do you know who my superior is? He is General Qin, one of the last remaining founding generals of our nation. How dare you act so recklessly in front of him? Your actions are unforgivable.”
The eight policemen hadn’t known General Qin’s identity until now. Upon hearing Secretary Lei’s words, their legs went weak. The chubby Officer Liu, who was leading them, was the first to kneel and kowtow to General Qin with a pained expression.
“General, we did not recognize you and have offended you. Please forgive us. We were only following orders from Young Master Nie.”
The other seven officers, seeing their leader kneel, also dropped to their knees, begging General Qin for forgiveness.
“Earlier, you all behaved like thugs, and now you’re groveling like this? Stand up and wait for your punishment,” General Qin said with a glance at the eight policemen.
There was an inherent authority in his words, and the eight policemen immediately stopped begging and stood up, trembling in fear.
“Lei Gang, have Nie Yuanxiong’s father come here at once. Earlier, this brat boasted that his father was the deputy mayor and acted all high and mighty,” General Qin then ordered Lei Gang.
“Yes, sir,” Lei Gang immediately called Nie Qingyun.
…
Nie Qingyun was the executive deputy mayor of Feiyun City, responsible for the city’s economy and wielding considerable power.
Unlike Lei Gang, who was a good husband and spent as much time as possible with his wife, Nie Qingyun had long grown tired of his wife, whom he saw as nothing more than a nagging old woman. Using the excuse of being busy with work, he often stayed away from home.
At forty-seven or forty-eight years old, Nie Qingyun was about 1.8 meters tall, maintained a good physique, kept his skin well cared for, and, with his prominent position, found it easy to attract women.
At that moment, he was in the presidential suite of a five-star hotel, amid a tryst with a female TV anchor named Han Yue.
But Lei Gang’s phone call interrupted his fun.
“Who the hell is interrupting me now?”
Nie Qingyun cursed, intending to put Han Yue back on the bed and answer the phone.
The phone in his hand was reserved for private calls, known only to important contacts. Being a cautious man, he didn’t want to miss anything significant, so despite the critical moment, he managed to show some restraint.
He picked up the phone and saw that it was Secretary Lei Gang calling. He was relieved that he hadn’t missed this call.
“Hello, Secretary Lei,” Nie Qingyun suppressed his heavy breathing as he answered the call.
“Deputy Mayor Nie, come to the No. 1 private room at Nanshan State Guesthouse immediately. Your son Nie Yuanxiong has gotten into some trouble,” Lei Gang said bluntly.
“What?”
Nie Qingyun was shocked. After a moment of surprise, he quickly asked, “Secretary Lei, what exactly did he do?”
“He abused his power and offended General Qin, as well as a young friend of the General’s,” Lei Gang said, “General Qin has ordered you to come here immediately.”
“Which General Qin?”
Nie Qingyun was confused, but even a fool could tell from the tone of “get over here now” that something serious had happened.
“Who else could it be?”
Lei Gang said just one sentence and then hung up the phone. Although Nie Qingyun had managed to suppress his breathing, Lei Gang could still detect something unusual. If Nie Qingyun had been with his wife, the call wouldn’t have ended so abruptly, especially since it was just dinnertime. Lei Gang immediately deduced that Nie Qingyun’s private life was improper and that he was likely fooling around with another woman.
…
“My son offended General Qin?”
Nie Qingyun’s face turned pale, his mind in chaos. He only had this one son, so of course, he had to save him. He immediately began searching for his clothes.
Seeing him get dressed, Han Yue batted her eyes flirtatiously and said, “Brother Yun, why are you leaving so soon?”
“Han Yue, something urgent has come up, and I need to handle it. I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
At this moment, Nie Qingyun had no time to waste. He quickly continued putting on his clothes.
“Brother Yun, what could be more important than what we’re doing?”
Han Yue climbed out of bed and clung to Nie Qingyun, trying to keep him from leaving.
“I have an emergency, so get out of my way!”
Nie Qingyun cursed in his anxiety. He didn’t know what trouble his son had gotten into, but he had to rush over immediately. There was no time for Han Yue’s antics.
“Brother Yun, you’re scolding me…”
Han Yue, clueless about the phone call and the gravity of the situation, continued to pout and act spoiled. She was determined to use every trick in the book to keep Nie Qingyun from leaving.
“Get out!”
Nie Qingyun, now thoroughly annoyed by her persistence, slapped Han Yue across the face.
He had some martial arts training, so his slap was quite heavy, knocking Han Yue to the ground. He quickly finished getting dressed and left in a hurry.
“Nie Qingyun, you bastard! If you push me too far, I’ll turn against you, and we’ll see who comes out on top!”
After Nie Qingyun left, Han Yue got up from the floor, holding her slapped cheek, and cursed him bitterly. As his mistress, she naturally had some dirt on him.
…
Nie Qingyun rushed to the Nanshan State Guesthouse and pushed open the door to Private Room No. 1.
As soon as he entered, he saw the stern-looking old man who had often appeared on television in recent years sitting on the sofa. Beside the old man were two young men, and behind them stood four bodyguard-like figures.
Secretary Lei Gang and his wife were sitting across from the old man, while his son Nie Yuanxiong, along with Ye Qianqian and the others, stood trembling as if they were about to collapse.
Nie Qingyun immediately recognized the stern old man as none other than General Qin, one of the founding generals of the nation.
“General Qin, Secretary Lei, my apologies for being late,” Nie Qingyun quickly walked over to General Qin and Secretary Lei and greeted them.
“You’re Nie Qingyun? The executive deputy mayor of Feiyun City?” General Qin asked coldly, giving Nie Qingyun a sharp look. By this time, they had already finished their dinner and were resting on the sofa.
“Yes, General. I am Nie Qingyun. I don’t know what my son did to offend you, but he is young and ignorant. I humbly ask for your forgiveness,” Nie Qingyun, a smooth talker, quickly assessed the situation and spoke up.
“Forgiveness? I didn’t have Lei Gang call you here so you could plead for your son. I called you here to hold you accountable. With such an arrogant and lawless son, you must not be much better yourself. Your son and that Ye Qianqian were so insolent in front of my little brother Zhou Lang—imagine how they must act around others!”
“Unfilial son! Ye Qianqian! Apologize to Mr. Zhou right now!”
Nie Qingyun glanced at Zhou Lang and Qin Pojun, who were sitting beside General Qin, and quickly signaled his son to apologize.
Although he didn’t recognize Zhou Lang or Qin Pojun, he could guess that one of these two young men was the “little brother” General Qin had mentioned. However, no matter how hard he tried to wrap his head around it, he couldn’t figure out how General Qin could have such a young brother—it was simply too bizarre.
