Peach Blossom Dual Cultivation - Chapter 47: Ignorance Is A Bliss
Zhou Lang let go of Ivanova and positioned her protectively behind him.
Although Ivanova wasn’t afraid of the thugs, she was still touched by Zhou Lang’s protective gesture. Few women truly want to be strong all the time—most prefer being a little woman, enjoying the protection of a man.
“Well, well, this pretty boy isn’t even afraid of getting beaten up! What a fool in love!”
One of the thugs mocked Zhou Lang as he reached to grab his collar.
Zhou Lang casually placed his hand on the thug’s shoulder and gave a light flick. The thug flew through the air like a kite with a broken string.
Before the remaining three could even react, Zhou Lang moved again. The three of them were sent flying, as easily as if they were weightless dolls in his hands.
In the blink of an eye, the four thugs were on the ground, bruised and battered, barely able to stand.
“You… you… you’re not human!”
The bald leader, stunned, tried to run but found his legs too weak to move.
“You just called me not human? Do you know the consequences of that?” Zhou Lang walked up to the bald man and lightly patted his face.
“I… I meant you’re incredibly strong…”
The bald man, realizing Zhou Lang had misunderstood, was so scared he nearly wet his pants.
“Who sent you?”
Zhou Lang asked coldly.
“I… I can’t say.”
The bald man hesitated, still trying to hold out. He had been paid, and betraying the person who hired him would violate the code of the underworld.
“Looks like you’ll need a bit more persuasion before you talk,” Zhou Lang said menacingly.
“Earlier, I only used a third of my strength. I’m curious to see how far I can throw you—wonder if it’ll give you a concussion or maybe even kill you.”
“No, please don’t…”
The bald man’s face turned pale. He had seen how his men were thrown several meters and ended up bruised and swollen. If he were thrown ten meters or more, there was a real chance he wouldn’t survive.
“Speak. Who sent you?”
Zhou Lang grabbed the bald man’s shoulder tightly.
The bald man felt as though a giant clamp had locked onto him. He tried to struggle but couldn’t muster any strength. His shoulder hurt more and more as if his bones were about to be crushed.
“I’ll talk… I’ll talk!”
The bald man finally gave in.
“It was Zhang Deyuan who sent me.”
“Zhang Deyuan, huh? That guy’s got some nerve,” Zhou Lang snorted. With his intelligence, it didn’t take him long to figure out why Zhang Deyuan was targeting him.
“Brother Lang, Zhang Deyuan tried to harass me two nights ago, and I beat him up. I heard he ended up in the hospital yesterday. He holds a grudge against me and doesn’t want you getting close to me, so it makes sense he’d send thugs to cause us trouble,” Ivanova explained.
“He got a beating from you and still hasn’t learned his lesson. Looks like I’ll have to teach him a proper one,” Zhou Lang muttered. He then looked at the bald man and said, “Lead the way.”
“Big brother… what do you mean by that?” the bald man asked, confused.
“Take me to Zhang Deyuan,” Zhou Lang replied.
“Alright…”
The bald man didn’t dare refuse. Zhou Lang’s strength had already scared him to death. He was genuinely afraid Zhou Lang might toss him like a discus.
“You four, scram. And don’t even think about warning Zhang Deyuan that I’m coming for him. If you do, I’ll break your bones.”
As they passed the four thugs who had been thrown to the ground earlier, Zhou Lang shot them a menacing glance.
“Didn’t you hear the boss? Get lost!”
The bald man snapped at them when he saw they were hesitating.
Without further delay, the four thugs fled as fast as they could.
“You should go home. I’ll take care of this,” Zhou Lang said to Ivanova once they left the park.
“Alright, I’ll see you at work tonight?”
Ivanova nodded, her eyes filled with affection as she watched Zhou Lang leave.
…
In a private room at Sisters KTV, Zhang Deyuan was singing karaoke.
Beside him was a provocatively dressed woman, hired to keep him company. Earlier, he had received a call from the bald man, confirming that they had located Zhou Lang and Ivanova. The thought of Zhou Lang getting beaten up and Ivanova, the mixed-race beauty, being brought to him filled Zhang Deyuan with glee.
This fool who overestimated himself had been eyeing Ivanova for far too long.
Holding a microphone in one hand, Zhang Deyuan’s other hand was busy caressing the woman’s thigh.
“Come on, big brother, don’t be like that. I’m just here to sing with you. This isn’t appropriate,” the woman said coyly, wriggling in protest. She was dressed in a white blouse and a tight miniskirt. With her movements, the hem of her skirt was riding up, revealing even more than intended.
Zhang Deyuan pulled out five hundred yuan bills from his wallet and waved them in front of the woman, then placed his hand on her chest.
“Hehe, you’re so naughty, Mr. Zhang,” the woman giggled, now only half-heartedly resisting.
Zhang Deyuan’s hands roamed freely. He even set the microphone down and used one hand to stroke the woman’s thigh, encased in black stockings, while the other undid two buttons of her blouse, slipping the money into her bra and sneaking his hand inside.
Just as things were heating up between them, the door to the private room suddenly swung open, and the bald man walked in.
“Baldy, did you get her? Bring in that mixed-race beauty!”
Zhang Deyuan exclaimed excitedly, completely oblivious to the fact that, even in the dim lighting, the bald man’s face was pale with fear.
Men are quick to discard the lesser for something better, and Zhang Deyuan was no exception. Assuming the bald man had captured Ivanova, he immediately turned to the woman beside him and said, “I need to discuss some business with Baldy. You can leave now.”
“Mr. Zhang, don’t forget to call me next time.”
The woman took the money, buttoned up her blouse, adjusted her skirt, and, with a flirtatious wink, swayed her hips as she left the room.
The owner of Sisters KTV was a relative of Zhang Deyuan, and since he was generous with tips, the women who sang with customers enjoyed spending time with him.
“What are you standing around for? Tell your men to bring Ivanova in!” Zhang Deyuan urged when he saw the bald man still standing there, motionless.
“Boss Zhang…”
The bald man, head lowered, stammered, unable to get a full sentence out.
“You didn’t catch her?”
Zhang Deyuan asked, surprised.
“You five thugs can’t even catch a single woman?”
“Zhang Deyuan, you’ve got quite some nerve.”
At that moment, a cold voice rang out, and Zhou Lang walked into the private room.
“What’s going on?”
Zhang Deyuan was startled when he saw Zhou Lang. He had sent people to rough him up and capture Ivanova, but now Zhou Lang stood before him, unharmed, and Ivanova was nowhere in sight.
“You can go now,” Zhou Lang said, glancing at Zhang Deyuan before addressing the bald man.
Relieved, the bald man quickly left the room and closed the door behind him.
“Zhou Lang? Do you know Baldy? Did he tip you off?”
Zhang Deyuan stood up from the sofa, glaring at Zhou Lang.
“Let me tell you straight: I’ve got my eye on Ivanova. From now on, you’re not allowed to get close to her, or I’ll teach you a lesson you won’t forget.”
The saying ignorance is a bliss certainly applied here—Zhang Deyuan had no idea what had just transpired. He assumed the thugs had failed simply because they had mistakenly recruited someone friendly with Zhou Lang, leaking the plan.
“Alright, let’s see how you plan to teach me a lesson,” Zhou Lang said with a faint smile. He wasn’t a malicious person, but he didn’t mind putting someone like Zhang Deyuan in his place.
