Peach Blossom Dual Cultivation - Chapter 56: The Rich Young Lady
“Who I live with is none of your business. Now get out.”
Zhou Lang’s face darkened as he looked at the twin brothers, Wang Fan and Wang Zhong. His cold tone showed his displeasure with their attitude.
He had already guessed that the so-called Wang Family’s Twin came from a powerful background, but he was no longer the same person he used to be. He didn’t need to fear them anymore. In his eyes, any martial artist, regardless of their level, was insignificant. Zhou Lang was a cultivator, and the gap between him and the Wang brothers was vast—they lived in completely different worlds.
“You’re courting death!”
Wang Zhong snarled, clawing toward Zhou Lang with his right hand. His attack was fierce, slicing through the air and exuding an intimidating aura.
“Get lost!”
Zhou Lang barely regarded him. With a simple block, he sent Wang Zhong flying backward.
Wang Zhong shot back like a cannonball, crashing into the wall before collapsing to the ground.
Wang Fan’s expression shifted drastically. To be able to send his brother flying with one move, Zhou Lang’s strength was extraordinary. He realized he had underestimated him—Zhou Lang’s lack of detectable internal energy had misled him into thinking Zhou Lang was weak. Now he knew better: Zhou Lang’s cultivation far surpassed his own.
“Who exactly are you? Which sect do you belong to? How dare you oppose the Shangguan family?”
Wang Fan didn’t move to attack, but his voice carried a sense of authority, as if merely invoking the Shangguan family would be enough to intimidate Zhou Lang.
“Which sect I belong to is none of your concern. This is my place, and you barged in without permission. That’s incredibly rude. Let me tell you: not even the King of Heaven can enter my home without my consent,” Zhou Lang retorted coldly.
“Now, get out!”
“You’re too arrogant! I’m going to kill you!”
Wang Zhong staggered to his feet, ready to charge at Zhou Lang again. The man hadn’t learned his lesson and seemed recklessly unafraid of death.
“Brother, we’re no match for him,” Wang Fan quickly intervened.
“Let’s contact Young Master Shangguan first.”
Wang Zhong finally calmed down, no longer as eager to confront Zhou Lang.
“Master, you’ve already made an enemy of the Shangguan family. Tell me your name,” Wang Fan demanded, glaring at Zhou Lang. If not for Zhou Lang’s interference, they would have succeeded in taking Zhao Xiaorou away by now. Since Zhou Lang had decided to oppose them, Wang Fan needed to figure out his background.
“My name is Zhou Lang. I know you’re not done yet, but let me warn you: if you harass Xiaorou again or break into my place, I won’t be so lenient next time,” Zhou Lang said calmly.
“Did you hear that? Brother Lang told you to get lost!”
Zhao Xiaorou added. Had she been alone, she would have been taken away, but with Zhou Lang standing up for her, things had changed. One of the reasons she insisted on sharing a rental with him—aside from her growing affection—was to avoid exactly this kind of situation.
“Zhou Lang, you’re a skilled fighter, I’ll admit. But our Young Master Shangguan is a dragon among men. In terms of martial arts or family background, you’re no match for him. If you continue to stand up for Miss Zhao, you’re walking into your destruction. I’ll give you one last chance: leave her alone, and the Shangguan family will spare you,” Wang Fan’s tone shifted as he tried a different tactic. He understood that physically confronting Zhou Lang would be futile, but invoking the Shangguan family’s influence might still sway him.
“I told you to get lost. Didn’t you hear me? What era do you think this is? Arranged marriages? I don’t fear the Shangguan family. Even if they were the most powerful family under heaven, they can’t force Xiaorou to do something she doesn’t want. If you don’t leave now, don’t blame me for what happens next.”
Zhou Lang’s tone was indifferent, but as he took a step forward, his aura surged, filling the room with pressure.
Zhao Xiaorou, who knew only basic martial arts, didn’t feel much, but Wang Fan and Wang Zhong were overwhelmed by it. Their legs began to tremble.
They both had the same thought: if Zhou Lang wanted to, he could defeat them with a single move.
“Zhou Lang, I hope you don’t regret this!”
Wang Fan spat, clearly rattled. He and Wang Zhong didn’t dare provoke Zhou Lang further, hastily retreating after a final threat.
As soon as they left, Zhao Xiaorou hurriedly shut the door and sighed in relief.
“Xiaorou, it seems you’ve been hiding a lot from me,” Zhou Lang said, sitting on the couch in the living room and looking at her intently.
For the Wang brothers, both high-level martial artists, to be mere errand boys for the Shangguan family spoke volumes about the family’s power. And for Shangguan Yu to want to marry Zhao Xiaorou meant her identity was far from ordinary. Zhou Lang was now certain that Zhao Xiaorou was the daughter of a wealthy, influential family.
“Brother Lang, I’m sorry for not telling you the truth about my identity earlier. I was afraid that after you saved me, you wouldn’t care about me anymore,” Zhao Xiaorou said apologetically, looking a bit embarrassed.
“I don’t care about a person’s background or status when I make friends, but I don’t like being lied to,” Zhou Lang replied.
“Brother Lang, I ran away from home to avoid being found by my family. That’s why I didn’t tell you about my identity. Please don’t be mad at me,” Zhao Xiaorou pleaded, clinging to his arm with a hint of coquetry.
“Alright, tell me about yourself.”
Zhou Lang sighed. In truth, he wasn’t angry. Everyone had their secrets, and it was normal for her to guard hers.
“I’m from the provincial capital. My father is an official there, and our Zhao family runs a large business. My father is an old friend of Shangguan Long, the head of the Shangguan family. About three years ago, Shangguan Long’s son, Shangguan Yu, began relentlessly pursuing me. I ignored him, but Shangguan Long pressured my father, insisting I marry into their family. The Shangguan family is a powerful cultivation family, with influence not just in Yunnan, but across the country. If I don’t marry Shangguan Yu, my father will lose his position, and our business will be suppressed. Under pressure, my father agreed to the marriage. But Shangguan Yu is a scoundrel. I’d rather die than marry him, so I ran away. Fortunately, I met you. Otherwise, that night at Lover’s Bar when I hit Duan Xiaohu, I would’ve been in real trouble.”
Tears welled up in Zhao Xiaorou’s eyes. Although she briefly mentioned her background, the power of the Shangguan family alone was intimidating enough. Her own family’s background was significant, too, or they wouldn’t have been able to withstand the Shangguan family’s pressure for so long.
